It’s hard to comment on politics without offending someone. Who is the “king sitting upon a throne, behind him a figure veiled in black”? Zelensky or Putin? Erdogan (Turkey) or Mitsotakis (Greece), either of which could be the “king” and either of which could be the veiled enemy? Or two U.S. politicians contending for important congressional or gubernatorial positions in an election yesterday, maybe still too close to be fully counted? “A man, richly attired, having lost his foothold, is falling to the ground.” I hope that is not you or me. Could it be a gay or bi man afflicted with “monkeypox” and so “falling” in his self-estimation? There can be “the breaking up of families and the loss of their traditions” though decadence. Perhaps this is the memory of some family disgrace for which one has been responsible. Mercury REtrograde can bring us to REmorse and REpentance.
Mercury going backward approaches a square with Saturn and this could be the “crucifix” of one of the symbols for the day. At best this is suffering for a cause to which one has committed oneself. Perhaps it is necessary to take a stand on something for the sake of one’s soul. Then, one might feel restored to a position of ease and luxury (Venus sextile Saturn), like “a woman sitting in a chair as if conversing with someone. Her hands are folded lightly upon her lap, her face has a pleasant, smiling expression. She is loosely habited in a Grecian robe, her neck and arms bare.” There could be cheerful company and pleasant living.
Mars is at the first degree of Aries symbolized in the Sabian system by “a woman rises out of water, a seal rises and embraces her.” The water might represent Pisces from which Mars has emerged, while the seal is Aries embracing the “woman” or feminine receptivity with its “more masculine or personal self-seeking initiative.” There can be a realization of what one is doing, of its complexity and depth and all the mistakes one can make as well as all the progressive prayer and activity one can engage oneself in. Aries is aspiration. There is “an illimitability of experience of which anyone can take advantage under any or all circumstances.” Could this involve competition? Maybe. “Two men are standing in a wood, fighting a duel. Between them lies a rich purple-gold vesture and a casket of jewels.” One might “win a competence for oneself by great hazards.” One “makes efforts at gaining wealth and position, but meets with opposition, and will either succeed or perish in the attempt.” Well, it is not that intense for most of us, but there could be joy in legitimate competition in one’s chosen field.
