*From Despair to Extemporization*

Here is what I just wrote to a friend: 'I am about to write the forecast for Libra-Aries. It looks horrid but I have to be gentle! "Terrible time, hopeless, stay home and mope, get drunk or watch old TV series and keep the door locked." Oh well, that would be too easy . . . '

Of course it would be horrible advice, encouraging us to succumb to our weaknesses. Perish the thought! Carry on, stiff upper lip old chap, persist, endure, try!

Anything else you needed to know?

As always the aspects and positions are complex, so that as usual one feels that writing a forecast is impossible because to be accurate one would have to cover so many possibilities that the forecast would run into page after page. I shall try to be more concise. It's a continuous learning experience for me and I appreciate your coming along for the ride.

The Full Moon gives as always heightened awareness, a feeling that "Now I am seeing what I was missing: it's wonderful." It could be depressing also, if what one is seeing is one's failures. That is why faith is essential. "Okay, I can correct that."

Dealing with secretive business organizations, or other secretive organizations, is possible with the sun-Uranus opposition focused on Pluto. Not everybody in them is your enemy, but you have to watch your step. Being a standout because of your peculiarities could be a problem. Muting those is recommended.

The Venus-Neptune opposition focused on Mars by another T-square is a "What is wrong with my friends?" aspect, or else, "Do I have any friends?" or "Now I am sensing who my real friends are, and I can count them on the fingers of one hand." Or if you feel "Now I have no friends," welcome to the club. Whatever has been controversial with people is exaggerated to a point of hopelessness, or so it seems. Therefore it could be, "Thank heaven I don't have to deal with those so-called friends."

There are helpful factors, including the good aspects among Jupiter, Venus, Mercury and Saturn. There is appreciation of beauty and some good luck. You appreciate your home. Some communications are facilitated despite what was said above.

Oracle for Aspirants

There are both passive and active dangers. The passive is too much mournfulness. The active is too much aggression. Which is a danger for you depends on your temperament and current situation. You could be too sensitive, and feel too keenly sympathetic with some whom you cannot help. Of course it is good to do what you can. Prayer should not be a substitute for more physical kinds of help but it can accompany and enhance them, and be in fact a substitute when physical help is impossible. Those who are away from you, either by death or separation, evoke in you a feeling of bereavement. This makes you feel like retiring from active connections with people who are alive and right there. If someone away from you has a health problem, you could aid through spiritual healing. As for those who have passed away, happy memories can come alive. The departed live in them as they in you.

The aggressive dangers include feeling so distraught that you lash out in anger. Quarrels and arguments may seem inescapable. Perhaps they are, but can be mitigated, modified and made safe through higher detached awareness of the issues seen from both sides. The good portion of this could be a ruthlessness intent on doing what you see as essential to your personal situation, career, mission or goal. You do not fight people but are so intent on your aims that you push them out of the way.

At the worst, all this could add up to physical fights or killing. Of course, not likely for readers of these forecasts, but for those anywhere in the world who are involved with military madness of one kind or another.

You can be alert to making do with what is around you. When people are lost, or have lost their appurtenances, they have to extemporize with whatever they can find, rejecting and choosing, rejecting and choosing. It's an adventure, not a welcomed one but a learning experience and a chance to demonstrate one's bounce-back ability. (What might the number 12 mean to you? You might keep it in mind as a clue. It turns up often in occult and mystical literature and the Bible. It's a full complementation of things, as in "a dozen.") Your spiritual seeking now is extemporization, taking what helps you from multiple sources.

Seeming loss (whether of money, things, people, a location or otherwise) is something to encompass rather than to mourn for long. At first it awakens despair. Then one sees that it is "not so bad." Then one begins to realize what it is that comes in to fill the empty place, and this is something one would not have gained without the loss. If it is not something like what one lost, it is something spiritual, such as contentment or peace.

~Trying Again~

Relationships and friendships look better than during the previous period, though they are still under strain. What was said about Mars and Venus in a square two periods ago is still true: expecting too much from people, therefore being disappointed, while also being disappointed with oneself; rather than taking things as they come. The moon in Pisces gives a somewhat mystical trend, a broad toleration of various kinds of people, though with the other aspects in force you may have to stretch yourself a little to do that.

There is a warning connected with the sun's now-exact opposition with Uranus. It can be wrong-headed, a tendency to drop, give up, or radically change your approach when that makes things worse. If you don't see that in yourself, you may see it in others, as well as the following, from C. E. O. Carter (written about those who have this in their birth-charts, but applicable in some degree to most everyone now): "Vanity, morbid sensitiveness, and wrong-headedness of every kind characterize this class of aspects: if the native is a genius, it will rob him of many of the rewards of genius; if he is capable he will still, by some foolish act, destroy the fruits of his own work, perhaps after much labour and effort. Even if he is personally amiable, he will still be stubborn, misguided, and fickle. The views, interests, and pursuits are likely to be completely changed, abruptly and often frequently." So, whatever is really good for you you had better stick with! Instead of dropping it, you can bring more originality and freshness (Uranian gifts) into it, making it more interesting than it was.

The continuing trine of Mercury and Jupiter is good for business decisions and connections, for dealing with agents, and for publishing whether conventionally or on the Internet. Of course it will be affected by the foregoing considerations, but if you are calm and cool about it, emphasizing what you can do on your own rather than in intense cooperation with others, something good could develop. People are being careful about money, and that care could translate into wise decisions.

Oracle for Aspirants

The severity of life is sometimes hard to understand. It might help to think what things would be like if you never had to work and were supplied with everything you wanted. It might be hard to visualize that, but if you could, I think you would realize that life with no challenge or effort would ultimately become tasteless, and probably sooner than expected. So, during this period, it is wise to realize that hard labor has a magnificent purpose and is not your enemy. You might resent the fact that "others" are requiring or directing your labors. Yet in some ultimate sense these "others" are yourself, for while they require this from you you are subconsciously cooperating with them. By putting yourself into your work (which is in fact "yours") with solid self-government, you are earning rewards which are sure to come.

Another tendency in you resists the above and wants easy pleasure. It is an unstable quality which wants to drift with whatever passions and desires surge up to carry you in this direction or that. It is thrill-seeking. Erotic impulses want to rule. How far can these be indulged, and how far must they be restrained? This of course is for you to decide; it is merely my duty to point out that there are dangers. Drinking could be a danger, or anything which happens near water or a swimming pool. A moment's thrill could reverse something you have achieved.

Someone close to you physically could explode and do something which hurts you. This of course does not have to happen if you are careful and, might I add, prayerful. The best protection is spiritual protection. People may be so filled with desire and passion that they lose control of themselves, drop something, spill something, or give up and symbolically fall to the ground or cause someone else to do that. The "giving up" could also be because they lose awareness temporarily, and therefore control. Even 20-year-olds can lose their mental powers temporarily, as helplessly as an oldster with dementia. This is when they are so filled with passion, desire, or anger at frustration that they "lose it."

It would be far better to turn these passions and desires in a spiritual direction. How is that possible? It is not an easy question. It could be said that this is something the human race has been working on for millennia and will work on for millennia more. Only so much is possible for a given individual. Most have to go with the basic pattern of the race. We consider the best of that to be a solid marriage with a family cared for responsibly. This is not possible, or even desirable, for everyone. Then there are the spiritual aspirants who put their devotional seeking above everything. That too may have perils, but is definitely the best path for some. Some become secretive, devoted to occult or mystical study. Again there are perils, for some take this as a short cut to insanity. But the real mystic or occultist could become a real magician, that is, one who wields spiritual forces for the benefit of others primarily, himself secondarily.

Which means, again, labor. It comes with birth; the crying baby is laboring at something invisibly. And one magical secret is that giving up on labor hastens death. One can put one's precious passions and desires into the efforts, making them more enjoyable. At some point this may not be as much physical as mental and spiritual labor, yet  physical efforts also are important to health way into old age. But I am not whipping or goading you. All this is your work for you.

}Clash of Methods as Difficult Teaching{

Mercury trine Jupiter, in work and business sectors, suggests a fair level of success and prosperity, relative to your personal situation. Some negotiations, transactions, or purchases could be worth while. Anything connected with publishing might go smoothly. Agents needed in any business could be dealt with successfully. The connection by sextile of Venus with these two planets adds beauty and glory, a sense of splendor in human relations and conversations, a sharing of esthetic and intellectual pleasures.

The foregoing could be specially true on Tuesday when the moon harmonizes with Mercury and Jupiter, forming a grand trine (even though most of Tuesday remains in the |difficult third of this week|). Wednesday should remain favorable for business matters.

Oracle for Aspirants

Let me describe at a superficial level, with the help of Signor Borelli's symbols and Sepharial's interpretations of them, a tableau which might be literal in your observation but hopefully will be entirely symbolic: A man who has abused children (or young adults) or misused them, preying upon them either financially or sexually, or merely being harsh with them or misleading them, is in trouble psychologically and perhaps legally. If you are not facing any such situation in connection with anyone you know, take this as a symbol of inner processes in yourself. Are you the exploiter or the exploited? The victim or the perpetrator? And what about your past, your childhood? Maybe you were a bully, or were bullied.

At another level, there are indications of facing the "self-sufficiency" of yourself and wondering if it is a good thing. To what degree have you been self-centered to the point that you ignored what other people saw as reality, and got yourself in trouble thereby? You have your views, your beliefs, your way of going, and could be ostracized because of that. Is this noble, or a mistake? Only you can answer.

You may ponder injuries you have received. The occult teaching is that we can only suffer what we have earned, or else what we need to wake us up to higher things--awaken our ethical-spiritual sense. This is a hard teaching for most of us. "What did I do to deserve this?" is a common question. Imprisonment can be actually unjust and totally wrong, as the Innocence Project proves abundantly, but at a personal level can be unconsciously ordained self-imprisonment.

There are times when we feel we are "losing it" or can't think straight or focus efficiently on necessities. This is by no means confined to the aged. Patience with oneself in such situations is very important. Something in you is linking itself with other factors in your consciousness which are not related to immediate outer needs. This can make you appear to be impotent, when you are really distracted. (Tuesday should be a day of relatively smooth efficiency, so it might be good to observe carefully how it goes. You might learn something from that.)

What is education about? How does it really work? To what extent are teachers meaningless tyrants, and to what extent do they really help those whose lives are partially entrusted to them? The time is ripe for answers to such questions.

So often there are real injuries received from someone in authority, such as a teacher or employer. At other times what is perceived as injury is merely a learning process which one refuses to bow to. It might be wise to bow, in situation after situation, rather than fight and make things harder for oneself. (I don't like to say that because I am a natural rebel in many learning situations.) At other times, of course, bad practices of would-be educators or trainers need to be exposed and rejected. All this is material for thought at this time because of the planetary situation.

Something remarkable could be happening, to pull you out of yourself and any tired, old, pointless habits of thinking and acting which are impeding you. It would be essentially religious. I know that the word "religion" has fallen on hard times, despised by most, hated by the intelligentsia, mocked by the immature. This is a cultural fashion. But real religion is a "binding" (religio, Latin for binding) -- a binding to the Supreme. Those who do not wish to be bound to the Supreme do not know what He is. In other words, there can be no escape out of ultimate ineptitude for the intellectual classes until they become devoted to something higher than their precious and endless cogitations in circles. That something is essentially religious, or yogic. Yoga is a "yoking" to the Highest (and of course I do not mean merely the physical hatha yoga available at a price from pseudo-yogis). The Supreme cannot enlighten us if we do not open ourselves to the Supreme. If you have a spiritual life at all, it has strong potentials at the present time of a breakthrough past your old limits. This will not be easy in the process, but would be blissful and magical if achieved.

\Painful Individuality plus Shy Companionship, Shared Interests/

In some places, physical weather will be replicating the astral weather of (a) the autumnal equinox and (b) the moon in Capricorn, a cold sign, square Saturn (by sign and then exact), a cold planet in Libra. Or this can be clouds and precipitation, often.

Many things which occur or need to be done will be felt as tests. We all wish for spiritual peace and physical ease. Well, can't we have that about a third of every day? I guess we shouldn't complain. The other two-thirds are somewhat demanding now, but good aspects of Neptune and Venus suggest that such peace and ease can be brought into the demanding activities, making them feel almost like enjoyment. This of course requires faith, and fine perceptions.

The opposition of the sun and Mercury with Uranus brings out individuality, and not always in the best way unless you are a master of yourself and have the perception and understanding to see yourself in your real place among the rest of humanity. That of course is rare. Until we get it, we are likely to think of our own approach to everything as best, and ridicule others' approaches, or insist that everyone do as we think best even though our personal choice might appear wrong-headed to many. During this period the tendency could come out in dealings with young people or friends, whether they see you as the wrong-headed one or you see them so. It might also come out in connection with a career or business opportunity. Someone else being right when you happen to be wrong is not a major character flaw, just something to learn from. Unfortunately, when it's the other way around you cannot force people to see that.

The brilliant astrologer C. E. O. Carter said that Venus square Mars, with which we are suffering, makes a person "dissatisfied with himself and a keen critic of others." This nutshell comment deserves careful thought for that square is almost exact (and will be with us by a ten-degree orb until October 18). "Dissatisfied with oneself and a keen critic of others." To which Carter adds, "He cannot take people and things as he finds them; he feels too much and expects too much." Does this explain some of your recent suffering?

Another possibility is wild self-indulgence for escape, especially because Venus is in Leo and Mars in Scorpio. With the lunar situation as it is, there would be a quick comeuppance. "I did this to escape my suffering, but have created more suffering."

Business and income have no doubt been on your mind. You have probably learned by now how to separate pointless worry from fruitful concern about such matters. Of course you may wonder whether the "fruitful concern" will really be fruitful, and so you could veer into "pointless worry" again.

Grant Lewi says that Mercury trine Jupiter, now with us, gives one a propensity to display one's knowledge. It is good that Mercury is gradually escaping from its harsh aspects with Uranus and Pluto into this fine trine. Expect cultivated information and learning, a culture-vulture approach to items of literature, film, or art which identify you as a person of good taste. Because Venus is involved by sextile, you can share such interests with someone congenial.

*Questioning, Facing, Daring*

Questions are brewing about where to go and what to do with a friend, and perhaps others at a distance. The eternal optimist in me has high hopes for these two days; at least lunar positions are better than on Tuesday and Wednesday. The planets do not rule us, any more than red and green stop-and-go lights. However, it appears that part of the rule of this solar system is that we work with, not against, planetary movements in order to be successful or happy. One with no knowledge of astrology can learn to do this subconsciously. We say "He has a sense of timing." Astrology can help the rest of us, and perhaps him also.

I like to "think out loud" or in print in order to get to something that will help. For those of you interested in astrology it might help you think along similar lines or explore in your own way. So: I am impressed by the predominance of septile-based aspects in the past couple of weeks. There are five septile aspects now (including bi- and tri-septiles) and this suggests "immovable fate" to some degree. This means, not that the cosmos is against you but that your past living, thinking, feeling and acting has set up certain things for you which you can't change until you experience the result or karma you have set in motion. This is not all bad by any means. If it seems that things are slow or hard or that you are stuck, you need to keep on with whatever is ameliorating those conditions, however slowly.

Someone you know, or perhaps an author you study, has keen discernment, to the point that he frightens you by pointing out things you didn't want to see, that is, dangers you might succumb to unless you realize what he is trying to show you. There is a harsh but illumining insistence on the truth and nothing but the truth.

A deep side of you is a thinker. You may wonder if you are really in command of your thoughts. The previously mentioned individual or teacher may be showing you that rather the truth ought to be in command of them. There is some danger that by delving into contrary or contradictory teachings or evidence you could confuse yourself and slip into darkness. "The truth" as written here is an abstraction, but would be very concrete to you if you found it pertinently in each issue you are concerned about.

The seeming impotence mentioned in paragraph 2 is not hopeless, if you just pick up what you spill or are unable to contain or control, and carry on.

The square of Venus and Mars (technically September 7 through October 17 but close to exact right now) is tough on "relationships" in the broadest sense, including but not limited to the romantic ones. When people disagree, they want to control each other, but cannot, and so what then? The flaps in the Muslim world over the blasphemous depictions of their Prophet by certain misguided (and dangerous) individuals in the West (in America and now France) are an example. The deliberate instigation of a fight by those Western individuals is inexcusable; they never gave a thought to the lives they were endangering. Nor did they realize that you do not make fun of anyone's religion; that is an ethical imperative as well as a matter of common sense. You can disagree with the religion and explain why you disagree, calmly and rationally. That would be respected. You cannot make fun of it. Never. If that is one thing the Muslim world is teaching us, perhaps it is a lesson we needed to learn.

On the personal level, there may be "duels" between yourself and someone you think highly of. A duel can be a friendly contest, or it can be fatal to a friendship. Pushing the situation in the former direction is imperative.

At a less forbidding level, Venus and Jupiter are exactly sextile. This is always a good aspect and can smooth out much of the foregoing if we tune in to it sufficiently. With Venus in Leo, there is a daring and a willingness to accept responsible, appropriate pleasures. Why would anyone reject pleasures? For reasons given above, namely, that there are so many serious factors afoot one feels pleasure would be a mistake. I will only say that some pleasures now are entirely appropriate and one can "go for them" providing there is no definitely unmistakable warning.

People need to be together sometimes just to experience one another's personalities and commune with one another at some subliminal psychic level usually impossible when one is sitting in a room alone. So there could be an urge to be on the move, probably locally but for some it could be longer travel. The difficulties already outlined need not be daunting if one meets everything with calm courage and a desire to experience the sublime grandeur of oneself and the human race.

"The soul attracted leaned to the Abyss:
It longed for the adventure of Ignorance
And the marvel and surprise of the Unknown . . .
The savour of pity and the gamble of love
And passion and the ambiguous face of Fate." --Sri Aurobindo, Savitri

With the Part of Fortune in the second sector and the moon in Scorpio, there is a double emphasis on thoughts about money or income and what to do about it. As shown above, Wednesday could be better than Tuesday for most purposes involving other people or agreements.

[Troll: That knife in your hand, what are you going to use it for? Prepare food, engrave a design, or something more dire? You would like to cut out the obstructions in your life. This would be dangerous and probably impossible.] Sage: Obstructions are not as bad as they seem and you have the skill to work around them or eliminate them rather than let them trip you. You can look toward what seems favorable during this period. If it seems so, it is. Two septile-based aspects with the sun suggest that we are facing destiny, or old karma being transformed. That takes a while but will go faster if you believe in the light at the end of the tunnel. You can see it.

[Troll: You have been pretty awkward lately. And your terrible mood does not help. I see no sign of that changing. You don't even take care of your tools, the stuff you need to get things done. Instead of sharpening them you use the blunt edge. If you insist on being so backward, how could things get better?] Sage: Things are tough. This is a challenge to your character and persistence. Every time you feel things are futile, and struggle just to keep going, you are sharpening your abilities and strengthening your will. Continuing like that is the best way to prepare a better future, far-off as it seems.

[Troll: If justice were done, how could you hold up under it? You would go down because you don't measure up. Winter is coming.] Sage: It is not wise to let good things go to seed when you could continue with them. Autumn is a glorious season: brisk air to stimulate renewed activity; glorious colors as recompense for suffering.  You needn't be too hard on yourself or anyone. Each day has its hues of fulfillment.

[T: You've been procrastinating. You know how far behind you are with that schedule! You have no sense of direction but are lazing around aimlessly.] S: You can sense when to act and when to rest. You need to do the latter sometimes, after all. It would be self-punishing not to relax and enjoy when you can. You are preserving and cultivating fantastic potentials which you can release when the time comes. Ingenuous curiosity, and sight-seeing of life, gives you time to recover inner poise; and then express yourself fully when opportunity arrives. That does not have to be in the remote future.

}Daring to Seek and Interact{

Several patterns look smoother than the previous period. The New Moon of late Saturday is conferring somewhat more energy and optimism as the lunar month gets under way. Plans that were postponed may be ready to sail.

You care about directness and honesty. A T-square with Mercury, Uranus and Pluto suggests you will expect such honesty from people and yourself. You are sensitive to pretension and hypocrisy. So you will see through false schemes or scams. The "weight of the world" seems to hang on us while there are six septile aspects (including the bi- and tri-septiles). It is a kind of "stuck" feeling, as if factors outside of you had the control of your fate, so you can only do so much. That is contrary to the New-Moon optimism, which can still cut out a path for you through seemingly immovable factors.

It would be wonderful to be alert to mystical, charming, subtly sweet and enchanting influences which waft to you from other individuals and which you yourself manifest as something they are drawn toward. This is the angelic or demi-god stature of the human race, now made apparent in ways you would never have suspected. People have magical secrets they do not discuss, and these give them feminine, masculine, or beyond-sex charm and grace surpassing the ordinary.

That is not to say that all is sweetness and light. There are tough aspects, especially the square between Venus and Mars, increasing in strength. Who is your "implacable enemy"? This is someone you may have to deal with, face, or at least contemplate and pray about ("pray for those who persecute you" said the Master in a sermon on a mount). If you so pray, you will most likely be led to do something, whether state your case, carry on the "battle" whether legal, intellectual, or emotional, or something else which makes sense as defusing or enlightening or untangling the interlocked horns of the situation. To be aggressive in an ethical or spiritual manner is not an easy skill to learn.

Whether they are among the jobless or not, many recently have felt skeptical about their abilities. Some may feel their skills are draining away through lack of use or through being used only on trivia. Why do things take so long and seem so fruitless? Instead of pounding a nut to get the meat out, you might feel like slapping yourself to wake yourself up. There should be some relief from this dispiriting tedium during this period, especially Sunday. On Monday we enter the |difficult third of the week| (time above) but you can be persistent.

Erotic inclinations could be fascinating. If you can study these as if your own psychoanalyst, fine; if not, you could be swept away by some. This is a tendency with Venus and Mars in a square, especially from Leo to Scorpio. You may note enticement as a factor around you, directed toward yourself or others; seduction of a direct or subtle nature. It might be said that that is thrilling, but the septile aspects with Mars (three of them) suggest that there is fate, destiny or karma involved, so that what happens is partly beyond your choice. Those involved in the sex trade (and there are millions around the world) will probably have unusual, fateful experiences, as will their clients. Others who are more alone or celibate may be contemplating what it is to be wife, husband and child to oneself, as it were, that is, to include all these relationships within oneself rather than seeking for them outwardly all the time.

Toward the end of the summer, there could be lawn parties, city block parties, or other ways of being yourself within a set, group, or community. That is all to the good. It might be more evident Sunday than Monday, but any time companionship dissolves unsuspected psychological blocks or complexes. It is liberating. If you overlook the forbidding side of people, someone patient, cautious and successful may be a benefactor, share with you generously, or nudge you toward happiness wherever you are. You are aware of advantages you might claim for yourself.

\Lordy, Another New Moon Coming!/

We glide down to the New Moon of Virgo on Saturday evening. Health, diet, and exercise take a prominent place in the cares of many. Perhaps you have been working out an improved regimen for yourself over recent weeks. You may try further to clarify and firm it up. Energies and ambitions may be low at this time but you want to keep your body in shape one way or another.

[Pessimist: You are trying to do something which requires constant labor and are tired of it. Does anybody even credit that you know what you are doing? "Friends" try to be nice but say things which miss the mark. Material gains you make seem dependent on the whims of others. You are nothing but entertainment for people. Ideas of a "different place to be" are in the back of your mind but are premature.] Optimist: Despite the disagreement and even rancor you face concerning differing religious, political, or spiritual values, you keep on keeping on with your approach, which has destiny behind it. It is like turning an enormous wheel to keep your world alive and in focus. It can't fail when you are attuned to the truth. And when all goes well, it feels like entertainment, on the mental plane at least. You could please people with words, expressions and body language.

[P: Will this never end? Constant trivia requiring attention and labor. Details which seem insignificant but have to be attended to rigorously. Your abilities seem insufficient or questionable. You labor on and get little in return. Are you becoming a misanthrope? You would like to "own" people but they won't be owned. So you are lonely; an outcast.] O: You are not totally unsociable, just in a phase where lonely contemplation is what you need. The work which seems pointless actually keeps your mind focused and is excellent for your mental health; if you neglected it you would degenerate. There is deep truth in melancholy; it opens your heart and soul to eternal truths which last when desires fade or change direction.

[P: Those who have inspired you the most are either angry with you or displeased. Those were the days, when you were together in a far-away place and shared intense aspirations! A girl or boy smiles at you, and you know it's out of pity, or vanity; she doesn't want you, as you would find out if you tried to get closer. It's superficial, fun for a moment; then she or he goes home to a lover.] O: Actually this is amazing; there is renewed life in people! Someone who feels intensely and expresses his or her feelings freely is a breath of fresh air. You feed on each other's enthusiasm. It doesn't matter what the chat or gossip is about; it's thrilling. Someone gregarious and friendly brings magic into your life.

[P: Another morning. Bathroom and kitchen routines. Boring. Another day with sunshine's promise--for someone else. Where will it end? Even the "someone else" looks pitiable, dragging his bones around. Maybe I should move to the Poor Farm or live on the street and eat church suppers. There is not much else to look forward to.] O: A fresh morning! A New Moon coming! Everything is rejuvenated or will be soon. Resources are everywhere; I need only be alert to them: the unexpected is a blessing. The elderly, the homeless, the young punks and the idle are children of God and deserve kindness and good will. Misery loves company and we're in this together.

Important Special Report

Important Special Report

This job (and it is that, requiring among other things the patience of a Job on some days) is hard because there are so many variables in current astrological aspects and positions, and I have to choose among them when I write the semi-daily forecast. I try to be basically optimistic because without optimism we would all fall, and the planets are not doom-sayers but signals we can use for good rather than for submitting to bad fortune.

And so I was optimistic about Wednesday, as you will see if you read or review the forecast for Wednesday-Thursday September 12-13. However, early Wednesday we heard of the death of Christopher Stevens in Libya, and others in the Embassy. We also heard of the deaths of hundreds in a factory fire in Pakistan. This is all very bad news.

What is my excuse? I don't need one! If you review the forecast for Monday-Tuesday you will see that I said that Tuesday was a difficult day. Actually both of these incidents occurred before the moon entered Leo, when it was still Tuesday in the Western Hemisphere, when Luna was at the end of Cancer, squaring Saturn almost exactly, and then void-of-course.This is the hardest part of the week, and I used to mark out technically, to the minute, the |difficult third of each week| marked with those bars so you would take note of it. However, I never once, over that period of three years or more, heard from anyone saying "Thank you for marking out the difficult third of each week! It really helps me in my planning." Not once. Hey guys, are you alive? I am not insulting you but asking you to please communicate with me once in a while. I KNOW that this is, statistically, the hardest part of each week for EVERYONE. I know it. I have tested and checked it for a dozen years or more and these incidents of yesterday confirm it once again. The 9/11 attacks occurred at such a time in 2001 and now we have a mini-9/11 in Libya. Of course the moon does not square Saturn every 9/11; but it did in these two years.

I stopped marking the |difficult third of the week| just because nobody seemed to care. But now I am going back to marking it every week, whether you like it or not, because it helps me, and if I am the only one who reads my own forecasts, I shall continue with them.

How can you use those |difficult| times, which amount to about a third of each week? I have explained it over and over, over the years, till I am blue in the face, but to make it short and simple: Stick with the tried and true. Try not to get upset, realizing that your emotions are under stress and you could go overboard with anger or distress. That is the essence of it. Also, realize that others are going through this, so do not expect as much of them; mute your expectations of how patient or kind people will be. I say things similar to that every week when it happens, anyway, in the forecasts, but |marking| this period with the exact times may make it more helpful for you. After all, that is the purpose of these forecasts. At least it will be helpful for me.

This week the |harsh period| was from September 10, Monday, at 9:55a PT | 12:55p ET | 4:55p UT until September 12, Wednesday-13 Thursday at 10:05p(W) PT | 1:05a(Th) ET | 5:05a(Th) UT. So it is still going on, technically, Wednesday in the sad aftermath of the killings. But I said Wednesday was a good social day in the forecast. That is because of other factors I related there. Things should get better as the day goes on. Congratulations on getting through these three days.

There will be another special report, as I have time to write it, about current aspects. Meanwhile I need to get on with the forecast for the weekend.

*Mutual Admiration*

This is not a bad social time, with the moon in the sign of youth and optimism, close to Venus all day Wednesday and sextile Jupiter in the evening. Wednesday could be the best party or fun day of the week, at least astrologically, for those who plan something enjoyable. The Part of Fortune in the 11th sector of friendship is a good sign. Thursday is also good, but more muted, the Part of Fortune moving into the 12th which is less gregarious. The lunar month is winding down.

You may be disturbed that someone seems deaf and blind to things which thrill you. His opinions do not make room for something expansive or enlightening beyond what he already thinks he knows. It is possible for you, however, to make mental contact with what will be more generally understood far in the future. This has a feel of destiny to it and can be shared at least a little, or indirectly.

This is a week when the international banking industry is scheduled to "sink or swim" what with developments in Germany and elsewhere. I would not overemphasize the danger. The doom-sayers have been saying their doom regarding international debt for a couple of years and the doom keeps being postponed. I expect the same this week. Probably the American Federal Reserve will buoy up markets.

It is hard to get a mental grip on things when it comes to "what it all means" or your philosophy or working standpoint. So you keep struggling at it. This is a form of Zen practice, or ought to be recognized as such. What seems a repetitive, boring process can strike fire of insight or even enlightenment.

Someone who has been a friend is a true one, innocent and full of moral courage when it comes to his or her friends, of whom you are a special one. Disagreements are less important than they seem. Links between you can be maintained happily and fruitfully. This could be someone always near you or someone remote with whom you get in touch all over again by phone or email if not in person. You "belong to" each other in some way impossible to define.

You feel sure of yourself on many levels and can recognize your superiority within some area of expertise, as well as the superiority of your friend. A "mutual admiration society" is not a bad idea. What one cannot do, another can; and it is good, satisfying and uplifting to applaud.

~Wary and Subtle Research and Scheming Without Malice~

Have you been hunkering down to exercise and diet routines? I believe many have, during the past few weeks. Now the question is whether you will maintain them. The sun and Mercury are moving away, gradually, from their sextile with Mars, which, in the signs Virgo-Scorpio, was a major reason health regimens were emphasized. Also, we are in the final quarter (week) of a lunar month when physical energies can wane. They are available, however, if there is a strong motivation to keep going.

Some of that motivation is doubtless yours. You feel an urge to be free, "out in the country" where you can move at your choice and make other things, animals and people obey your will. In the city there is too much crowding for that to be as easy. However, you could adopt a solid stance no matter where you are. You are going to proceed with a robust approach to what you want, and chase it no matter what. Some feel the thrill of your desire and respond to it.

It's hard to know what people are thinking or feeling, and you may just give up. Poor Venus is besieged by difficult aspects. This increases shyness, which might seem a contradiction of the previous paragraph, but remember that "in the country" you do not face as many people getting in your way. No matter where you are, you are not without freedom and independence, especially within your mind and feelings.

You care about your honor, the way people see you and your work. It might seem that to uphold that, you have to keep at a lot of fruitless tasks. You could bear in mind that they will not be fruitless in the long run. The vine has to grow and produce buds and blooms for months before the harvest. You should not despair that you are lacking what it takes. That is an illusion. "Every man has his proper gift of God," said St. Paul. The small tedious tasks can be approached with joyfulness of heart.

There is some desire to display yourself and get recognition for your excellencies. You have privileges, and know it. Some look at you with admiration. You also realize that being brazen about that would be self-defeating, so you are ripe for being diplomatic as much as you can. This is quite possible, since Venus and Mars, although squared to each other (ouch) are both in good aspect with Uranus (in the case of Mars that is the not easily observable bi-quintile). Wherever people go--and they may be restless--they are alert to ways in which varied, sometimes inharmonious individualities can interact pleasingly without blending. Two notes might not blend, being discordant, but can interact happily within the total melody. Therefore, put a time-sense into your thinking about your relations with anyone.

Sunday is fair (except for the early void-of-course hours before this period begins). Monday looks like the best day in the period for most matters, especially if they have a social component. People may be wary but you can still cooperate. Tuesday looks difficult, so you might pull back and be very patient.

Tact is useful. It might veil subtlety, that is, secret plans and schemes which you are preparing to spring on someone. Elaborate research is possible, with Jupiter squared Mercury-and-sun from Gemini to Virgo, two mental signs ruled by Mercury. Abstractly, this is science, whether conventional or occult, and concretely it is cunning. A paradigm of this would be a student of the mysteries using them to conquer or influence the will of another. Or it could be using one's knowledge to press one's personal advantages, which can be completely ethical within limits. That is specially so when one tries to see that one's personal advantages merge with those of humanity at large (even if not those of some particular individual).

}Listless Adventure Interleaved with Prudent Care{

Rewards come to those who work and wait. There can be smooth ease of functioning along lines which interest you. Your mind is active. At the same time you are curious about relatives, family members, or neighbors in the community. People are getting rewards for whatever they have been doing which is consistent and reliable. You might realize that you want to be less harsh and critical of people, even when you feel they are stupid or insensitive. There is a flair for travel or exploring interesting territory. The glories of nature are profuse during this harvest season. The fruit of the vine is yours to enjoy.

Effort to understand ways of gaining income, plus saving prudently, has long-term reward.

There are times when all seems futile, as if you were pounding the same nut over and over to get the meat out of it with no success. Where is the "fruit of the vine" of paragraph 1? It will be available, even if temporarily you also have to work at things which seem pointless. They are not, if you arrange them wisely. Attempt itself, when one learns from failure, is a progress.

People do not see eye to eye about politics, philosophy or religion (Jupiter square both Mercury and the sun) but this does not have to mean a frozen attitude of hostility. Rather you can wink at disagreements and try to sense the divine purpose or plan behind the mental- emotional wanderings of human beings, no matter how misguided they seem for a while or a long time. This does not mean that you do not care about principles or uphold them. But you know you have to wait, and put your attention on happier matters, when someone is not ready to see the truth as you see it.

People can get hysterical when they are too anxious about something. If there is a real crisis and they need help, you can aid them to safety. Sometimes this is actual physical safety, and sometimes mental or emotional, when they have given too much power to foolish fears. Some could be drowning in self-indulgence, which is subconsciously a desire to escape challenges. If they can see that facing a challenge is better for them than escaping it so that they have to face it again (or something worse), they are on the way to recovery and safety.

It's a weekend and we do not have to be too harsh on ourselves. People want to share in a happy home, family, or community setting, and this is feasible. It may be lighter and more free-form on Friday, a little more conscious of "issues" on Saturday but still not oppressive. There is a desire to wander or be in more than one place. Good or useful links could form through such motion, as long as it is not merely pointless restlessness which starts to feel like a wild good chase of exhaustion. You care about your work and your position in the world, even or especially on Saturday. Paragraphs 1-3 might be worth reading again.

Astrological sidelights on the political conventions

I mentioned here that George Romney made his acceptance speech while the moon was in his sign, Pisces. I did not mention, because I did not notice until later, that his running mate Paul Ryan had made his speech while the moon was in his own sun-sign, Aquarius. Interesting.

I have said many things to many people and written accurate things in articles, but I hardly ever hear anyone say to me “Yes, you were right about that.” Hey guys, I am so tired of non-communication! You must sometimes notice that I am right about something. Couldn’t you have the human decency or grace to write to me and say “Hey Hugh, you were right about this particular thing” and tell me what, in your experience, confirmed my statement? It would be nice. I would appreciate it. I am writing this with no pay and giving it out because I believe in what I am doing. Once in a while, you might reciprocate by acknowledging that I said something which made sense to you. (And now I predict that the same people who have been loyal readers for years will reply. I know who they are, and they do not have to reassure me that they appreciate my work. Why don’t I ever hear from the rest of you? I know you read this by the figures I see. I am requesting that once in a while, maybe once a year, you tell me something you have gained from this blog. You must be gaining something or you would not be reading it.)

When the time for the Democratic Convention arrived a week later, the moon was not in the signs of Joe Biden and Barack Obama, it was in Taurus. But Venus entered Leo the very day Obama gave his acceptance speech, Thursday, and the moon at the very end of Taurus was sextile that planet. Interestingly, Venus was in the very last degree of Cancer the day before when Bill Clinton gave his excellent speech in support. Clinton is sun-sign Leo, as is Obama. Leo is of course the sign of the Lion, and the sign of the King. It is not an accident that these are two of our most popular presidents. For a long time astrologers have mentioned that they notice that the last or the last two degrees of a sign are “on the cusp” of the next sign and can sometimes appear to be that sign. So while Venus was “on the cusp” of Leo we heard from Clinton, and when it entered that sign we heard from Obama. Clinton mentioned his wife Hillary, of course, now Secretary of State, and Obama was accompanied at the end by his wife and two daughters (three Venuses to bless him when Venus had just entered his sign).

I did not listen to the Ryan and Romney speeches so shall not comment on them. But let me say that Ryan’s belief in Ayn Rand is fascinating in that the two of them are both Aquarians. It is also interesting that Ronald Reagan was an Aquarian. This is the sign which believes everyone has to make it on his own, the sign of Independence which is the Keyword of the planet Uranus which rules it (in the astrology of Marc Edmund Jones). So naturally in some Aquarian individuals it degenerates into the “dog-eat-dog” philosophy of Rand, Reagan and Ryan. With that I do not agree, but there are higher and better ways of being an Aquarian.

I will say of Romney only this: That as a Pisces, one of his faults could be indefiniteness, vagueness, “being on both sides of things,” and deception. This of course is what his critics accuse him of. There are much better possibilities to the sign Pisces, but I myself do not notice him manifesting them in any way which is convincing.

Joe Biden is Scorpio. His speech in support of Obama was “good” in a sense, but it was full of Scorpio tendencies and excesses. For one thing, it was the most military and militant speech I heard at the Convention. He kept saying “Look” before his sentences, as if he were directing people arrogantly, which is one fault of Scorpio, ruled by both Mars and Pluto. He glorified in the death of Osama bin Laden to a degree and in a way which made my stomach turn. It seemed bloodthirsty. And I noticed that while half the audience applauded those remarks, the other half were sitting on their hands. Democrats tend to be doves, after all. And at the end of his speech he invoked a blessing on the troops in his final words. Veterans’ Day, November 11, is in the month of Scorpio. It has always been regarded as a military sign by astrologers, since ancient times.

Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State, is also Scorpio. It is fascinating that Obama as a Leo chose these two to be probably the two most important individuals in his Administration. There is a secret esoteric reason why these two signs need to work together on important matters, Leo and Scorpio. (Interestingly, Hillary and Bill are another Scorpio-Leo combination.) And I have seen this work out at amazing levels. If you want to know the secret, read the chapter in Paul Foster Case’s book The Tarot on Key 14, Temperance. It depicts the archangel Michael. Perhaps that great Angel is being invoked by Obama and Biden, and even more by Obama and Hillary.

That does not mean that I agree with Obama or Hillary or any politician about everything. They are fallible human beings. But it would appear that destiny is destiny.

\Plodding On/

There is much practicality. People are willing to do what they have been doing, in their particular sphere of service or job, without complaining much. The workingman has been idolized (by Marxists) and idealized (by Christians also) and we just celebrated "his" and her day. So now it is back to work. Sticking to hard labor for the sake of an employer (and oneself) may seem unimaginative, but how would the world's economy and life go on without those individuals? They hold things together by their daily toil, for themselves and the rest of us.

And so there is no need for high flights of fancy or romanticism. Venus has no aspects but her square with Saturn, which has been expounded here. Love life may seem dreary or nonexistent.

The sphere of the intellect, of information and understanding, may seem barren also, but the attempt to keep learning will be rewarded. Those who are slower may be more thorough, tortoises who outstrip the rabbit who tries too much too fast. Students may note that "authorities" disagree, and have to struggle over that. Which one is right? Maybe nobody knows? Or maybe one has to choose the authority one believes as best one can.

The moon opposite Mars on Tuesday-Wednesday, in the fixed signs Taurus-Scorpio, suggests this kind of plodding or slogging on. Maybe the laborer even has to wait patiently for his pay, or recognition, and keep on working so he will get it later.

The grand trine in earth signs (only while the moon remains in Taurus) does suggest some good fortune with money and material things, even if less than one had hoped. People are also attending to health needs, as through diet and exercise. Keeping the body in trim is quiet satisfaction.

The moon will be void-of-course for almost a day and a half (as shown above). Later on Wednesday and almost all of Thursday are times to let yourself be free of anxieties, because you could worry needlessly about too much. Not everything can be firmly encapsulated at such times. Attending to needs using skills is necessary. However, there has to be room for the peculiar or unexplained. There can be room also for the spontaneous and joyful, if you get in the right mood, because on Thursday the moon will trine Venus, increasing into the evening. This may not be ecstatic but could be a good time to free yourself for a relaxed time of enjoyment. You might visit a place you don't usually go.

There are times when it seems impossible to overcome divisions between people deriving from rivalry, envy, or misunderstanding. This could be one of them. Ultimately, we have no "enemies" but ourselves, according to laws of karma; but temporarily we face discord and could be victims of someone's low desires or jealousy. You don't have to fear this but could be alert to it, and protect yourself with right thoughts of harmony and, yes, love, however impossible that might seem. Sri Aurobindo describes the spiritually advanced soul as "one who could love without return for love." And the rewards for this are often more concrete than one would suspect.

*Are We Getting It?*

Monday and early Tuesday will be the more difficult part of this period, while Sunday has a better proportion of helpful influences.

A relationship, or relationships, could be emphasized Sunday, while the rest of the period is a challenge to regain  bearings in your over-all situation.

"I am a man under authority, with servants set under me," said the Roman centurion to Jesus when, in faith, he asked for help (Luke 7). That is how you might feel now. Who is over you, and who is under you? In today's culture this is not usually clear-cut. Neither in marriage nor in work is it so simple to say who is in control and who is a servant. Under the influence of centuries of Christianity, powerful elites in both business and government claim to be public servants. How are you entangled in the master-servant relationship? Who would you say is your master? And who serves you? This could be more than a philosophic question; it could lead to insights of a practical nature.

When people are confused, they look to someone else to take charge. In the past, the stereotype of this has been a woman weakly letting some Svengali manipulate her, and enjoying it. Then, of course, she might manipulate him in turn through her seductive weakness. So much fun for novelists and soap-opera writers! How might this be going on in your life? Remember that the sex roles can be reversed here, and also that this can go on with two of the same sex.

Such entanglements can be interesting, intriguing, and addictive. It is not always clear who is deceiving whom, or if there might be mutual deception as if both were writing their own soap opera in collaboration.

Through all this a serious search is going on, which could rightly be called a spiritual quest. We are all looking for "something." We put it that way because we suspect it is indefinable and ineffable. So it is. The spiritual Masters adumbrate it each in his own way. To get tangled up with a spiritual Master is the best entanglement.

This is a powerful time for those who are gaining self-control. It could be partly a time of impotence, when one lets such control slip. That could be because one creates vexations for oneself through troubling oneself about too many things, some of which lead exactly nowhere except away from what is useful in one's life at present.

Attending to health needs, as through discipline of diet and exercise, is not one of those useless things, however. Many will be perfecting their approach to such physical self-training under the influence of Mercury-and-sun in Virgo sextile Mars in Scorpio. (It is virtually a truism that most of us eat too much and don't get enough exercise.)

Hunch: When you see someone asking for a cigarette, or a light, you will get a clue to something. When you burn something on the stove, you will get a clue to something.

Those who are eccentric or peculiar come into your purview. Yes, they are looking for "something." Good aspects with Neptune suggest they will get at least glimmers of it. Can one eat that "something"? Yes, by not eating as much material food, say those who recommend fasting.

Those to whom one is attracted, or whom one loves, can be partial mysteries. We do not need to understand one another completely to love one another. The edge of non-understanding could be part of the attraction.

There is so much you want to be involved in, and you can do it. At worst it could be escapism and then lead you astray (paragraph 7), but at best it is the thrill of getting closer to the kaleidoscopic source of human motivation through diving into the human psyche, one's own and others'. How you swim there is not exactly how anyone else does it.

Those who serve are not weak, but strong. You serve. "Gotta serve somebody" sang Bob Dylan. You also are served, and have you not sometimes marveled at the conscientiousness of someone who served you? This is part of the splendor of human life, superior to the splendor of Lady Gaga (who, I admit, does serve as an entertainer anyway). Being docile in service, not caring about the endurance required, results eventually in paradoxical mastery, as Hegel explained at brilliant length in his Phenomenology.
(Perhaps dogs and horses, whose nature is to serve, are being prepared for lives as masterful humans.)
