^Heavenly Consciousness^

Moon in Leo
|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week ends at 9:07p PT | 12:07a(Sa) ET | 5:07a(Sa) UT

I gave an over-all optimistic view of this new year in yesterday's report.  Today we have "two arrows crossed" which could show contention, litigation, or strife.  Some are set against public opinion because of eccentricities.  This has a lot to do with the long-lasting squares between the two "malefics," Mars and Saturn, which began in August and is picking up and getting stronger again.  "I want peace, but they are for war" lamented the Psalmist.  Sometimes this is hidden, and more like the craftiness of "a fox running apace in the moonlight."  Some are secretive in their designs, depending on others for support.

There are studious trends.  To be "a student of nature lecturing" one has to acquire ramified experience in order to master life's endless facets.  Without being smug, one can then explain things to oneself and others.  In contrast with that we have those who are "outwardly babes, but inwardly giants."  Their inner nature is not understood by "the world," but "of such is the kingdom of heaven."  A grand trine forming with Luna, Venus and Mars could give you awareness of this childlike and heavenly inner state of consciousness.

Prosperity through legacy or ancestry is indicated by "a spacious park with a baronial mansion in the background."  More belongs to us than we may think of consciously.  "A fair woman, richly attired, standing alone" will, through a beneficent nature and goodness of heart, attract friends and have opportunity for gratifying expression and full reward.

^Happy New Year!^

Moon in Cancer-->Leo
|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week is at its peak (ending late Friday evening)
/moon goes void-of-course at 5:46a PT | 8:46a ET | 1:46p UT
until it enters Leo at 10:59a PT | 1:59p ET | 6:59p UT
Seventh Day of Christmas

No year is without its problems or its fortuities.  Therefore it is hard to say "Next year will be better."  Nevertheless, I would venture to say that about 2021 because a few major factors in the chart for the calendar year are better, including the trine between Mars and Venus.  Relations between these two are super-important not only for relationships, love, and friendships but for general cooperation and good fortune.  So we may hope for something better.

The charts I use are for Greenwich mean time, the time astrologers have used in their ephemerides for centuries, and that is 12:00 a.m. Universal Time, or 0:00 Universal Time, January 1, 2021.  But that happens for us in the U. S. at 4:00p PT | 7:00p ET (which is 12:00a(F) UT).  And so, if you want to celebrate the beginning of the astrological New Year you might do it at those times, and reserve your local midnight hour for a different kind of celebration.  A more sober, serious, contemplative and spiritual celebration might be appropriate for the earlier hour.  We always want to hold ourselves to a higher standard at any New Year.

The moon in Leo is usually an entertaining or fun time, but during this Saturnian |difficult third| the fun is likely to be as muted as our faces with their masks or our stances with their 6-foot apartness. Party?  Why not, if it seems natural to all concerned, but expect people to be distant and somewhat morose or maybe just unusually thoughtful.

"A large disappointed audience" gets the picture.  There has to be spiritual independence when crowd-events fail to uplift.  There is disjunction between oneself and the masses.  "Someone hesitating to trust himself or herself to a wooden bridge" suggests so much doubt that one might "suspect even one's best friends."  Maybe we need to transcend fearfulness to partake of some social or semi-social sharing.  Even if it's disappointing, it is something.

"The hollow trunk of a large tree covered with moss" suggests ancient romance, in which one "outlives the other members of his family" and enjoys a memory-laden longevity.  "For Auld Lang Syne."  It's a time of wonderment:  What does my past mean? Was I worthy? What will the future be and can I handle it worthily? Who are my real friends and family and how can I interact better with them?  All these wondering questions are asked by "a child and a dog with borrowed eyeglasses." Even without a conventional party, the world itself becomes a party venue as we examine ourselves and others and "what it all means."  The eyeglasses are "borrowed" because we are looking through other eyes as well as our own on New Year's Eve.  Our personal opportunity for the coming year is linked unimpeachably with universal spirit.

"A man inspecting horses" sounds like someone sizing up other people at a New Year's party!  Well, that can be fun or illumining.  What is he or she good for in my world?  You might attain a level of mental, spiritual and physical conquest in which all three domains are interlaced like "Two triangles, with a third superposed."  Mastery unites these three as separate yet cooperating.  Self-government in the individual results in better national government.

~Cutting through Ice~

Moon in Cancer
|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week is with us (until Friday evening)
Sixth Day of Christmas

[Apologies:  Tuesday was an unusual day with unusual demands on me and I did not get a forecast written.  Today, Wednesday, I will try to do double duty to write and post both the Wednesday and Thursday reports.]

Needs of home and personal self require "cutting through ice" or procuring what you need through overcoming obstacles which would seem like hardships if you did not appreciate the need for organized effort within the community.  Your soul wants you to carry on with family traditions, or personally-selected ones, in order to avoid being "a deserter from the navy."

"Distributing papers among a multitude of people" suggests perhaps Twitter, Facebook, or other attempts to influence others.  Shall these be seen as superficial and partisan?  Maybe, but one has to express what one believes in order to get to the next stage, whatever that may be.  "Walking with bent head, leaning on a staff" suggests resignation despite misfortune, perhaps amid "honorable but unprofitable tasks," yet with a patient and firm will ready for a long, arduous journey.

"Lost opportunity regained in the imagination" is familiar to all of us.  The fact that it is regained, rather than merely lamented, shows that we can reformulate things successfully.  "An old owl sitting in the moonlight" would be a student of occultism, if he had a book to read up in that tree.  Our minds can be wise and self-possessed.  We see things "hidden from the common eye."

These symbols seem to be preparing us for dealing gracefully with the |difficult third| of the week now with us.

Moon in Gemini-->Cancer

until it enter Cancer at 2:29a PT | 5:29a ET | 10:29a UT
Full Moon of Capricorn-Cancer at 7:29p PT | 10:29p ET | 3:29a UT

The prominence of Saturn through planetary positions and rulerships (all but Mars in Aries and Luna in Cancer) could explain "a cross and a broken key" as a signet of futility.  It can mean "abortive enterprises" with "loss of reputation."  Sepharial says we should, rather than turn the key prematurely, "knock and wait in patience."  The Temple of Wisdom is entered with the key of "humility of spirit."  "A plowman plowing" is "content to live by steady, plodding labor."

Someone whose "face is painted with grotesque scrolls, surrounded by a mass of tangled hair" is eccentric, colorful but disorderly, and probably not successful.  This could be Venus square Neptune, "genius of a fruitless type" yet interesting.  If we are sufficiently Saturnian, sagacious and disciplined, we will be more like someone "climbing a steep hill of steps while an angel form at the top gives words of cheer and holds a golden crown."  Something worth waiting for keeps us going.

The very long-lasting square between Mars and Pluto is forcefulness.  "A warrior in bright armor with drawn sword" has a mission to accomplish.  "Go and conquer!" urges Charubel.  To do this involves "lost opportunity regained in the imagination."  Rather than pitying oneself, one reformulates  one's efforts in a  creatively fluid manner.

}Singing Through it All{

Moon in Gemini

What is real and what unreal? A question while Venus is square Neptune, especially in the sphere of emotions and social desires.  One might give up the merely erotic for the sake of divine selfless love.  Otherwise, one might be like "a man, richly attired, having lost his foothold, falling to the ground."  This is loss of dignity through bad judgment.  It is decadence, and "the breaking up of families and the loss of their traditions."  Saturn's prominence could make us feel like "a man desponding, standing on a barren plain with leaden-colored clouds overhead."

On the other hand, one might, through perseverance, be like "a man walking with bent head, leaning upon a staff."  Severed ties and disappointed hopes do not agitate his resignation, and so the will of Heaven gives consolation for his griefs and sorrows.  During lighter moods, when Luna is sextile Mars later in the day, one might feel like "a little boy in a state of nudity blowing bubbles," innocent and healthy, bent on personal amusement.

Sobriety and the will-to-knowledge, plus the Full Moon (exact tomorrow), could bring into your life "a book on which stand a compass and an hourglass."  You could become intimate with laws of nature by which time and space are surmounted or extended in any direction you wish.  This is discovery-making depth of thought.  Then "the birds in the house are singing happily" because you shape circumstances and precipitate events according to reliable principles.  This is the establishment of yourself in accord with your talents.

My research has been intense and constant for 42 years, attempting to find the best "formulas" to show "what is going on" for everyone on the planet.  We are in this thing together.  I find that the annual and monthly charts for everyone fit my own experiences better than anything I can draw out of my "own" birth horoscope.  Here is presented a new branch of research, based on calendar years, which I see now to have their own character.  For some reason known only to the Supreme, our human calendar works along with astronomical order and astrological wisdom.

I believe that if your memory is accurate and full, you will see hat these indications make sense and illumine your experience.  It usually takes a while to recall everything major that happened in a given year.  "One size fits all" may seem odd, yet a relationship or friendship involves two individuals, so it may be that these "universal" indications trump your "own" horoscope in many ways (for other horoscopes are also involved).

Though we can enjoy, grow, and learn in any and every year, I am glad that 2021 gives us a "Yes"!

Message for Thursday 24 December 2020, and Friday and Saturday: Christmastide

 Thursday 24 December 2020

\Christmastide, and the Christmas Star:  Extended Play!/

The daily data for Thursday through Saturday are at the end of this report.

Researching the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn which is getting so much attention in the media and online, I can report to you as follows:

1.  It occurs about every 20 years.  (Those who say every 80 years or such are taking account of the fact that the two planets are not always so close in latitude and so do not temporarily appear to be one star.)  It is called a "mutation" by some because it seems to mark off eras or epochs, 20-year epochs if you will.  If we allow a whole 15 degrees of longitude for the aspect, which I have found to be essential in this timing, the beginning of a twenty-year epoch is not one year but one-twelfth of the whole epoch, or about 20 months.  Let's look at them so you can review what happened during these periods in your own life:

A.  Fresh Beginning period of 1960-62:
1960, March 23 --  May 2
1960, October 8 -- 1962, February 5

B. Fresh Beginning period of 1980-81:
1980, July 5 -- 1982, January 4

C.  Fresh Beginning period of 1999-2001:
1999 June 13 -- October 25
2000, January 3 -- 2001, May 29

D.  Fresh Beginning period of 2020-21:
2019, December 29 -- 2021, April 27

Depending on your age, you've probably experienced one at least one of these "fresh beginning" periods, and it would repay you to review what was going on in your life at those times.

I'm the easiest example to give, for me, so:  A.  It was in April 1960 that I received my college scholarship, the beginning of a long and meandering college career.  B.  In the summer and fall of 1980 I knew I had to leave New York City and fumbled to find my right location.  I left, and wandered the West, including California and Colorado, for the whole B. period, ending up at "the top of the world," Estes Park in Colorado.  I was there when the period ended in early January 1982, and then went to Boulder where I stayed for 30 years.  C.  In the summer of 1999 I got my first computer and started the Cosmic Piper daily forecast.  It has continued for these 20 years.  D.  It's too early to evaluate what this period has meant, but I know that despite the pandemic I seem to be better off in many ways than ever before, making it possible to start new things, perhaps in the next four months before this "fresh beginning" period ends.  Let's hope we shall all be relieved of masks and lockdowns before long so we can all do that.

In addition to this, I have been researching "calendar year astrology" which I have experimented with in the past but never as fully or seriously as now.  Major results are in, and it is indubitable that charts set up for January 1 do forecast, foreshadow, outline, make clear, what happens in the following year.  This is a major development in my astrological work.  It may seem surprising that it took me this long to see its value, but old habits die hard and most astrologers either do not do any annual charts, except solar returns for individuals, or use a chart for the vernal equinox toward the end of March.  I don't deny that these charts have some validity, but I am now wholly involved with the calendar year charts and am exploring how they have worked for myself and many others in the past.  Extraordinary!  I'm not sure if I will feel confident enough to make projections for 2021 from these charts, but shall keep you posted!

Meanwhile, to do all that, plus Christmas festivities, I shall drop the daily reports for a few days, beginning again probably with Sunday, December 27.  One thing to remember:  The square between Mars and Pluto can be intense, obsessive energy, a desire to be indomitable and on top of everything, even to force one's will.  We could use this impatience wisely rather than let it trip us.  It is with us during this whole three-day period.

Merry Christmas!

Moon in Aries
/moon goes void-of-course at 2:52p PT | 5:52p ET | 10:52p UT
|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week is with us until Friday near noon

The much-heralded conjunction of Jupter and Saturn, sometimes called the Solstice or Christmas Star, visible usually in the west up to two hours after sunset, is important, called by some astrologers the 20-year "mutation" of Saturn and Jupiter.  (The hullabaloo about it being once in 80 or a hundred years means that it usually is not this tight in latitude, so that the two planets usually do not appear to be one).  It shows some basic changes in our individual approaches to "what is best" in our lives.  These two planets are the planets of "motivation" according to Marc Edmund Jones.  Today we have "a man standing at the junction of two cross roads, not knowing which way to go" and that suggests we are reconsidering our motives, intentions, and long-term agendas.  Yet there is illumination, and "a serpent is coiled around an uplifted beacon," perhaps that conjunction, the serpent indicating wisdom and subtlety.  Whether because of verbal study or interior pondering, our brightness "will be seen from afar" if we follow the light of our leading.  Jupiter gives light to Saturn, the enthusiastic to the cautious.

The squares of Mars with three planets, active for months, continue, and the one with Pluto is exact.  This is forcefulness, insistence, or impatience:  "a man of powerful form riding upon a restive horse."  It is dignity, independence, and dominion, though at worst it could be unjust.  There could be a taste for travel, though usually in the mind only, connecting with people at a distance.   The avidity could take quieter or passive forms, "the human soul receptive to growth and understanding."  Venus in Sagittarius, hungry for comprehension, is in a fateful septile with the Christmas Star.

"A gigantic Canary Island dragon tree" indicates boundless physical vitality and quick recuperation, resulting in longevity.  The One sustains His creation.  We experiment with balanced consequences and meanings, with outreaching and self-expression, reconciling the world to ourselves and ourselves to the world.  There is "a lamp of physical enlightenment at the left temple" dispelling all confusion.

^Letting Munificence Happen^

Moon in Aries
|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week begins late in the day at 9:50p PT | 12:50a(W) ET | 5:50a(W) UT, lasting until near noon on Friday, Christmas day.

Mars square Pluto remains the focal aspect, an indomitable approach to some obsession of yours.  What is it?  "Indomitable" means that others also feel indomitable, so we have "crossed swords" and, as a result of the dispute, "three stained-glass windows, one damaged by bombardment."  People feel like commemorating what has been destroyed, to keep it and what it represents in memory.  This, though morose, may have good results in a resolve to prevent similar incidents.  It is better probably than being "a man playing with colored balls, an immodest woman standing behind him," though it seems we do need some entertaining or comic relief.  Carefreeness and playfulness are not always utter foolishness.

"A vacillating weather vane" suggests procrastination, undertaking and then abandoning projects.  What is solid in your life is your foundation and you know what it is.  Then you are like "a full moon shining in a clear sky," adaptable and able to assimilate others' skills, displaying them in your own way with ease and grace.

There are rewards for all at this time of the year, if we let our expectations be unconditioned.  In one guise or another we are blessed by "a golden-haired goddess of opportunity."  Gift-sharing does not have to be laborious but as easy as "a net window blowing into a cornucopia at an open window."  Life is prodigal when we are uninhibited and enthusiastic.  Munificence is wondrous when un-planned-for.

P. S.  "Cosmic Piper" is really at least six individuals, five of them "on the other side."  Charubel, or John Thomas, single-handedly "pulled through" his 360 symbols.  So did Signor Antonio Borelli, of whose life I know nothing.  Then Sepharial, or Walter Gorn Old, wrote his superb interpretations of each of Borelli's symbols.  Marc Edmund Jones enlisted a mediumistic psychic, Elsie Wheeler, to bring through the Sabian Symbols which he then interpreted in brilliant prose.  Hugh Higgins, author of these reports, is the 6th component of Cosmic Piper.  Others in the supporting cast and crew are all the astrologers I have known and all the great astrologers whose books I have studied---too many to mention at this point but I hope to write an essay about them sometime.  Obviously I alone am responsible for how I interpret the symbols each day, but I am continuously amazed at the wealth and accuracy of the material I have been given by these invisible stalwarts.

The impatience of Mars square Pluto is a desire to force the world into one's own agenda no matter what.  Yet today we have "a man stripped to the undershirt wheeling a barrow along a plank."  And so while one might not be a willing slave or toiler, one cannot escape one's work.  Yet there is inflexible insistence that one has the right to certain prerogatives, which implies that others are going to do the work to provide the goods or services.  "An Indian chief demanding recognition" is you realizing that something you have accomplished is worthy and gives you advantages.

Jupter and Saturn having ended their long transit of Capricorn, now Mercury and the sun have entered it, so we do not escape the rigor of this most rigorous of signs.  "Rocks and things forming therein" is a fit description of the aeonic slowness of some things which develop under the aegis of Saturn.  You may have insights into life's composition, evolving structures of time and space, which have been developing in you for years.  Yet also the immediate status of your fortune may be satisfying, as represented by "a green field surrounded by shrubberies, with a nice villa on the northeast side."  Charubel says the one blessed this way "has an adequacy to keep him; and with this he has the disposition to be content."

"Two persons playing cards together" enjoy the hazards of shared speculation.  They are venturesome and jovial.  A life of change and chance seems effortless, harming no one and reviving good spirits.  Venus has her problems yet recieves a trine from the moon especially late in the day and so perhaps "a boy and girl stand with arms intertwined."  One might be both versatile and diplomatic.  It is possible to keep up mentally with alternations and with more than one project at a time.

Moon in Pisces

"A group of cattle browsing in the sunshine" is patient and contented while leading an uneventful, peaceful life.  Doesn't sound bad to me considering the stress we have been under during the first half of December.  Maybe "the Pope" is the leader of these placid "cattle" or people, that is, a guide they trust and believe in.  Much is discoverable through calm, private study or contemplation.  If not the pope, who possesses sanctity in your world or your consciousness?

The moon with Neptune in Pisces brings out hidden factors.  "A man stands alone in a gloomy valley.  A ray of brilliant light comes direct from the heavens on the crown of his head."  We can sense what is coming ahead of the cycle we currently exist in, and that creates an awareness of mission, or hard-to-define yet navigational purpose.  We have not been unlucky, but prosperous to some degree, so might resemble "a lady sitting on a divan fanning herself."

"A spade protruding from the soil" could be that of an agriculturist, miner, or archaeologist.  He or she has an incisive mind and relies on her own efforts rather than advice from friends to make discoveries.  What "turns up" from the "soil" brings success.  When relaxing we may hear "Cupid knocking at the door" to bring social self-renewal and psychological self-fulfillment.  The allurement of someone special, whether expected or surprising, whether lasting or transient, brings enlarged experience and self-consummative intimacy.

The report for Friday included 'We can fight off defeat or antagonism indicated by "a comet with a long tail pointing toward the earth," which, says Charubel, is a baneful "scourge of nations."'  I did not feel good Friday morning, got up later than usual, and heard the blare of helicopters buzzing around my neighborhood.  It turns out they were "observing" another protest here in Seattle, sometimes known as an "alternative government zone," this time having to do with the homeless.  I am all for aiding the homeless, but am not sure just what needs to be done, and find the helicopters more ominous than the demonstrators a few blocks from me.  Their hovering and noise feel like that "baneful comet with a long tail."  In that same first paragraph of yesterday's report I said 'We might repine over someone else's troubles, as "a man of middle age watching over a cradle."  We might suffer their problems in silence, yet our sympathy and prayer are supportive.'  This is what the demonstrators are doing, outside a yellow abandoned house they feel should be used for the homeless.

Saturday:  That same degree remains prominent today; what particular problem it might indicate in your own world I shall not guess.  "A man standing at the junction of cross roads not knowing which way to go" is indecisive and may have to make up his mind.  "A timid hare" might lose his way through inefficacy because "not following the direct and honest course in life."

"An anatomist or physiologist in a dissecting room" suggests analyzing dysfunctions in a way which gets helpful results.   Health problems may be going in a different, perhaps more favorable, direction with Jupiter and Saturn both having entered Aquarius in the last two days.  Some portions of one's anatomy may be unique or not susceptible to the usual rules--anomalous.  Standards of beauty also are very individual, so that the question "what does he or she see in her or him" is a perennial one.  "A man viewing himself in a looking-glass" may see what he wants to see, though self-confidence is helpful.

There has been a tendency toward overeating lately.  "A fat boy mowing the lawn" wants to earn his gargantuan meals by participating fairly in the immediate needs of human society.  The sportsmanship of "a game of cricket" (or perchance football) refines and strengthens personal potentialities.  People are challenged to be themselves when playing by the rules.  Given the uncertainties in the second paragraph above, enjoying life as a sort of game might be "cricket."

}Self-Respect and Steadfastness{

Moon in Aquarius

We should be up, strong, and ready to do whatever is needed to make things better, with support from Luna's sextiles with Mars on one side and Mercury plus the sun on the other.  We can fight off defeat or antagonism indicated by "a comet with a long tail pointing toward the earth," which, says Charubel, is a baneful "scourge of nations."  Some think that that is the Chinese Communist Party as infiltrating many of our institutions.  We might repine over someone else's troubles, as "a man of middle age watching over a cradle."  We might suffer their problems in silence, yet our sympathy and prayer are supportive.

Mars's square with Pluto is intense, sometimes bringing out rashness, severity or cruelty.  People may associate with others beneath them in character, and be pulled into their orbit weakly, suffering envy or slander.  "A man stands with tankard in hand, ready to drink, while two others stand apart, talking together with averted faces."  We need rather the steadfastness, patience and endurance of "a tortoise."  Then we naturally avoid hurtful associations or pull back into our protective shell.

I predicted that today would be the beginning of the nicer, happier half of December.  It might be a social day, yet with solitary trends also as if one were "an old owl up in a tree."  Wisdom evinces self-restraint, steadiness, and calm self-respect.  "A woman in pastel colors carrying a heavy and valuable but veiled load" is reticent, anchored in her own privacy, yet can live a full life.

}Meeting Challenge with Artistry{

Moon in Aquarius
|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week continues until Friday at 4:57a PT | 7:57a ET | 12:57p UT

With shake-up hearings in Congress, the retirement of William Barr, and the possibility that Donald Trump will appoint special prosecutors, the symbol "a man beneath the paw of a lion rampant" takes on significance, especially because Trump is a "lion" by rising sign and Mars placement.  Leo represents the ruler.  Whom do you serve, and are you serving well?  What you do may require some artistic sense or endeavor, as "a man at a table with drawing instruments and paper before him."  We can map out our immediate futures more successfully now, at this point in the Bright Hermetic Epoch, while Mercury moves close to the sun.

Artistry is also suggested by "a bright star resembling Venus, shining brighter and brighter."  This could be "a genius---poet, painter or musician."  The careers of such people are often tempestuous and sometimes end early.  A different approach to life is suggested by "two men playing chess," a more intellectual and realistic way of dealing with things (although once I asked a chess-player if his skill at that game translated into any other ability, and he said probably not).  Trump and Biden continue their chess game and are joined by countless others on both sides.  In your own life, "chess" is completeness of perspective plus concentration, driving your ability toward fulfillment.

Saturn's entrance into Aquarius today (it was in Capricorn since December 2017) may or may not yield happier times for us.  It shall continue to be squared by Mars, not an easy aspect, into early February.  "An old adobe mission" suggests something one can rely on.  We can resolve not to forget or neglect our heritage, our spiritual status.  Its durability sustains immortal character.  "The Goddess of Mercy enthroned" is one of the happiest degrees.  Sympathy extends in all directions, making for a universal family.  Whether Mary in a manger scene or the Hindu Durga, the universal mother is with us through multifarious manifestations or womanifesations.

\Disappointment, Aggressiveness, Fresh Hope/

Moon in Capricorn-->Aquarius
|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week is with us until Friday
/moon goes void-of-course at 9:36p PT | 12:36a(Th) ET | 5:36a(Th) UT
until it enters Aquarius at 10:28p PT | 1:28a(Th) ET | 6:28a(Th) UT

Most readers may read these reports before the day or during the day for which they are intended.  Of course that is what they are for, yet I have to say that reading them at the end of the day, or reading the previous day's report the next day, is a good practice.  I just re-read the one for the previous day and found that it gave me helpful insights.

Also, sometimes the symbols for the day will fit with what you watch online, movies or TV series, or what you read.  The symbols for Monday this week fit perfectly with a movie I watched.  We live vicariously a lot, especially during the pandemic.

The continuing challenge of Donald Trump and his supporters, though unsupported by most Republican politicians, continues with a "dueling" slate of electors, and we have the symbol "a man standing with drawn sword."  This can be strife and aggression, whether in politics or elsewhere, perhaps mostly polemics, or maybe litigation.  Litigation over the battleground states continues.  In your own life there might be worry that you are declining in some way, that you have failed to reach the aim of your ambition.  This is a natural "defeatist" mood during a |difficult third of the week|.

"A secret business conference" could be underhanded manipulation of things, as is feared by those worried about plutocratic globalization.  Or perchance it could be wise use of privacy or secrecy when appropriate for a good purpose.  You might become alert to hidden opportunities.  "The ocean covered with whitecaps" could be nervous irritability, or an irrepressible surging of resourceful potentialities.

"A peculiar, pleasing mask" suggests acting which brings out individuality by adroit, interesting imitation of other-individuality.  Sepharial says that the mask-wearer is "of a kind and sympathetic nature" and attracts friends, though "few will know him for what he really is."  This could be someone you know, or yourself in some of your phases.  Though it's not an easy day, some aspects of it suggest "the gate to the garden of desire."  We see what we don't have yet.  That inculcates faith.  Deeper expectations lead to expansion of prospects, discovery, fresh experience.

\Toward or Within Christmastide/

Moon in Capricorn
|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week begins at 5:05p PT | 8:05p ET | 1:05a(W) UT (until Friday)

By various criteria, I stated in the weekly report posted last Saturday that a happier phase of December would begin on Friday the 18th.  I hold to that.  One indication considered in that prediction was the entrance of both Saturn and Jupiter into Aquarius, the first on Thursday and the second on Saturday.  Since these two have been together in Capricorn for a year, which coincided with the onset and duration of the pandemic, I have hope that this will be the beginning of the end of that disaster.  Why?  Because Capricorn, though often a fine sign for those born in it, is a precarious one when it comes to transiting planets placed within it.  Aquarius is also ruled by Saturn, the planet of restrictions, yet in addition by Uranus, planet of freedom, so there may be a lot of demasking beginning by the 18th of this month and in 2021.  (I did not say, "take off your mask," just speculating that such demasking may be possible before too long.)  By another measure, the long-lasting presence of Mars in Aries while retrograde (now direct), squaring the Capricorn planets, shall continue while they are in Aquarius, until mid-February.  Perhaps the duration of the pandemic (since about last March) will be almost exactly one year.

Tuesday:
Firming up our plans is possible and favorable while Mercury approaches its conjunction with the sun (Sunday and Monday), which will be the center of this Bright Hermetic Epoch extending from November 19 through January 14.  Suggested:  Write down what you expect to be doing for the next few months into 2021, your daily or weekly agenda, your longer-range plans, and so on.  This is a good time to clarify all that with less intrusion of confusion than there is likely to be after January 14 (for about two months).  As a warning against failing to define one's intentions we have "a man of tottering, uncertain gait carrying water which he spills on the ground."  We can guard against indecision, faulty judgment and instability.  If uncertain about some things, we could be like "a chubby boy on a hobbyhorse," pretending to "ride" or to carry out our hopes by emulating those who have done so, even if only in play at first  This is a painless and harmless way of firming our intentions.

Inspiration is strong during the month of Sagittarius, Christmastide, whether expressed spiritually or merrily.  "Three cups of wine upon a table in the form of a triangle" are "allied to the higher nature" of enthusiasm or mental intoxication.  However, they could indicate debauchery.  Venus's sextiles with Jupiter and Saturn could give us "a place of amusement with music, dancing, and singing on the program--a very large ballroom."  This could be a virtual ballroom because of lockdown restrictions, maybe a movie or TV series.  Charubel remarks pithily that this is "not great singing or great dancing, or great anything."

Traditionalism as mental, emotional or spiritual support is indicated by "a Grand Army of the Republic campfire" where reminiscence links us with others in inner shared strength.  This could be family, nation, or group of comrades.  Somehow or other "the gate to the garden of desire" opens out into a happy prospect. Dreams are enhanced, and optimism unfolds opportunities.

^Heroic Persuasion or Bold Fascination^

Moon in Sagittarius-->Capricorn
New Moon of Sagittarius occurs at 8:18a PT | 11:18a ET | 4:18p UT
/moon goes void-of-course at that very moment
until it enters Capricorn at 7:36p PT | 10:36p ET | 3:36a(Tu) UT

There could be uncertainty about what one is doing in job or career.  Are some ambitions vain, some projects abortive? For some there may be abscission of hopes, at least temporarily.  There may be no deliberate deception on your side or anyone else's yet a perception that things are fishy or even fraudulent.  Who seems like "the Halloween jester?"  Yourself or someone else?  If there is a sense of humor there can be refreshing, buoyant energy.  What seems inept could be an attempt to put things on a friendlier basis.

"A ship in full sail" could be trading or travel, or a mixture of the two, or international trade (as emphasized by much concern about China).  "A secret business conference" could be ominous, or perhaps necessary privacy in some deals.  There is vigor in the mind, with Mercury trine Mars, and this can be incisive, taking advantage of opportunities, or of individuals "on the other side."  Literary work, or study which involves risk-taking, is facilitated. Disputes about the election of course are going to continue.   "A pugilist entering the ring" is not out for blood but wants to win and is alert to please the audience.   We can exert ourselves under the New Moon, be "up and at it." At best, there could be real heroism.

Venus sextile both Jupiter and Saturn could bring out juicier, happier connections and events.  Purchasing clothing, jewelry or decorative items could go well.  Friends reassure one about one's personality.  "A woman in trailing robes waves a wand, a serpent coiled 'round it."  This is clever assertion of power over others by persuasion or fascination.  There is attraction where not expected.  "A strong, prosperous-looking man stands extending arms forward, holding a bowl full of wine." One might be steadfast and sincere, gaining respect through conscious merit.

Message for Weekend of December 12-13, 2020, and Week Ahead: Divided Nation

Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 December 2020, and Coming Week:  Divided Nation

It is no longer possible to "avoid politics" as I have been trying to do in these reports.  I do not want to offend readers on either side of the national divide, but it may be impossible to avoid that.

First, several polls show that the nation is divided almost half-and-half about the election; one shows that 47% think there was considerable election fraud; another (published by Daily Kos, a very left-wing publication) 49%, with only 51% thinking the election was entirely legitimate.  This divide is not going away quickly, if ever.

Second, I have to refer you to what I was saying multiple times in the past few months, that a Dark Hermetic Epoch, or Slow Mercury Epoch, akin to Mercury Retrograde (which is always the core of the DHE) lasted from September 23 through November 18.  Is there any wonder that, combining this with the Covid panic, the election was a total mess in quite a few states?  Even in Washington State, where there has been mail-in voting for many years, a gubernatorial candidate is filing lawsuits alleging that the election results were not valid.  I have little doubt that many vote-counters, and voting machines, were inaccurate, confused, nutty, out-of-bounds, during that period because that is "par for the course" during any DHE.  People make ten times as many mistakes, it seems, as do machines or computers or the people who program and run them. Deliberate fraud?  Possibly, and of course Donald Trump's lawyers including Rudy Giuliani, whom I admire, insist that deliberate fraud can be established if the evidence were honestly evaluated.  I shall not make a judgment on that but Rudy's arguments sound convincing.

I do not believe that astrology can determine the outcome of an election.  It has to be "the will of the people" determining that, not the planets.  However, the planets are clearly and sharply showing the fact of the conflict, division, legal warfare.  As I've mentioned many times, both Saturn and Mars, the two "malefic" planets according to the ancients (they were at least as smart as us), are in their own signs, making them stronger than usual.  Capricorn can be a sign of illness, hence Covid (Jupiter, Pluto and Saturn all in that sign since December a year ago).  In March when the Covid panic was getting started Mars joined those planets for the whole month.  In July Mars entered Aries and shall be there until January 6.  Jupiter and Saturn leave Capricorn on December 17, Thursday; Jupiter leaves it two days later on the 19th.  A new era?  Biden people will say, "Yes, Trump will be gone."  Trump supporters will say, "Maybe the Supreme Court will intervene and Trump will win." I admit that the Texas lawsuit, now joined by about 17 other states, has slim chances in a "strict construction" court, yet some think the suit is being prepared brilliantly.  We shall see.

But no matter what happens, the divide shall continue, and could center next around Joe and Hunter Biden's racketeering (according to Giuliani who has spent months investigating this) with Chinese companies.  This appears to be much more serious than most of the media are willing to let on.

Mars was retrograde during the election (September 9 through November 13) and also square Jupiter, considered by CEO Carter to be the worst aspect of all.  Now Mars is direct but again squaring Jupiter, suggesting a "correction" of what went wrong while it was retrograde, and that aspect, happening now, shall be exact on January 22!  The inauguration is the 20th.  Again, Biden people will say "Yes, the mess of the Trump years has been corrected."  Trump people will say, "Yes, Trump will re-assume office despite the fraudulent election."  "We shall see" is the only prediction I am willing to make.

The harshness of the conflict is likely to be worst through Thursday the 17th.  This might also include strains in personal relationships of all kinds.  Beginning Friday the 18th we enter a happier holiday period, yet of course the "divide" shall continue in one form or another.

Call me naive, but over the years I have investigated multiple methods of astrological timing, for longer periods, and in the past few months I have returned to one of the most elegant methods, which is simply to take each calendar month as a temporal entity of its own.  It is impossible to explain this by "physical" laws of any kind; it has to do with co-incidence, synchronicity, the Synchronous City of this planet, which for some reason adopted a calendar set up by Roman emperors, but now used all over the world.  It works, explain that fact however you will.  We really do not understand the mysteries of Time, though astrology is the most concerted and amazing attempt at that.  Some of the symbols for the month of December are (Charubel's seem most relevant):

"A battlefield where two contending armies are engaged in deadly conflict."  In America it is obvious what this refers to.  "He must be watchful over his conduct, or he will come to grief."

"Cross-swords."  "A person always at variance and engaged in quarrels and broils."

"A bull pawing up the earth."  "He will have his own way; his anger is lasting."

"A man with bow and arrow taking aim at some object in the distance."  "A good marksman, yet noble and humane; generally prosperous."  This shows us all, in the midst of disturbed conditions, making good plans for the future, "taking aim" so that our prosperity shall continue.

"Two men running a race."  It's been a long race.

"A man struggling in a lake; at last a lifebuoy is thrown to him; finally he is saved."  I leave this to your own interpretation.  Charubel says, "Always in trouble through debt; always involved, on the verge of bankruptcy; finally by some unlooked-for, unexpected 'god-send,' he or she is delivered."  Some are calling the Texas suit for Trump "a hail Mary pass."

"A man on the roof of a building putting slates on it; another carrying them up a long ladder."  "Deeds as tend to benefit the community."  "A lover of peace and promoter of good works."  Yes, we need this.  Co-operation remains possible.

"A man in a bed; his chamber is dark and gloomy, yet the horizon looks bright."   "Heavy affliction during younger days, but latter days bring health and comforts."  Ending of pandemic?  Or individual recoveries from it.

"Two swords form a cross lying on the ground.  A man stands on them with a sceptre pointing heavenward."  "A person of peace, one who confides in the higher power."  This is a cure for the "cross-swords" previously mentioned.  Let's "confide in the higher power."
