|Karmically serious or sobering third| of this week is with us until Friday near noon
The much-heralded conjunction of Jupter and Saturn, sometimes called the Solstice or Christmas Star, visible usually in the west up to two hours after sunset, is important, called by some astrologers the 20-year "mutation" of Saturn and Jupiter. (The hullabaloo about it being once in 80 or a hundred years means that it usually is not this tight in latitude, so that the two planets usually do not appear to be one). It shows some basic changes in our individual approaches to "what is best" in our lives. These two planets are the planets of "motivation" according to Marc Edmund Jones. Today we have "a man standing at the junction of two cross roads, not knowing which way to go" and that suggests we are reconsidering our motives, intentions, and long-term agendas. Yet there is illumination, and "a serpent is coiled around an uplifted beacon," perhaps that conjunction, the serpent indicating wisdom and subtlety. Whether because of verbal study or interior pondering, our brightness "will be seen from afar" if we follow the light of our leading. Jupiter gives light to Saturn, the enthusiastic to the cautious.
The squares of Mars with three planets, active for months, continue, and the one with Pluto is exact. This is forcefulness, insistence, or impatience: "a man of powerful form riding upon a restive horse." It is dignity, independence, and dominion, though at worst it could be unjust. There could be a taste for travel, though usually in the mind only, connecting with people at a distance. The avidity could take quieter or passive forms, "the human soul receptive to growth and understanding." Venus in Sagittarius, hungry for comprehension, is in a fateful septile with the Christmas Star.
"A gigantic Canary Island dragon tree" indicates boundless physical vitality and quick recuperation, resulting in longevity. The One sustains His creation. We experiment with balanced consequences and meanings, with outreaching and self-expression, reconciling the world to ourselves and ourselves to the world. There is "a lamp of physical enlightenment at the left temple" dispelling all confusion.
