~Thoughtful Focus~
We enter the |retreat| third of the week at 11:30a PT | 2:30p ET | 6:30p UT. It lasts through Saturday this time. It is a regular cycle but somewhat wobbly; next week Saturday will be free of it, but not this time. Beginning next week the weekends will be free of it for six months, until April.
Today in those later hours it would be wise to calm down, relax, and take a smooth peaceful view of where you are and what you expect to do over the weekend. Simple and less ambitious plans are better. It is not dull to spend your weekend on things you care about rather than superficial pleasure-seeking. The pleasure will happen anyway. Sunday is free of the |retreat|.
There appears to be less worry about money today than on Tuesday-Wednesday, and more interest in personal relations even if they are loose, tricky or indirect.
I am sure you are noting that the Dark Epoch continues--while Mercury is slow (though not retrograde). It lasts until the 14th. Your plans are clearer, and that is wonderful, but you are still working them out as if untangling a snarl. This need not be at all depressing but quite fascinating, as solving a puzzle. Maybe you have solved this one before, but each time it comes back you solve it at a higher level and learn more.
Today you delight in pursuing objectives as if they were a sport. Your mood elevates when you just settle down to what you want to accomplish and focus on it.
You can be devoted to kindly service in some way which brings accord among people with whom your lot is cast. This involves a somewhat artistic approach which exalts traditions, which after all are a convenience of human living.
A literary approach is good. Reading when the selection is wise is a way of linking with the human race at a more exalted level of perspective, with which any successful writer is linked in one way or another. Commenting on or discussing what is read is mind-expanding. It sometimes begins when parents read to their children. There are your family traditions, and there are the traditions of the human race embodied largely in literature, whether sacred or popular or somewhere in the middle, which we call literary. This fund of gentility need not be overwhelming because your intuition picks what is best for you at the moment.
There is a prophylactic power in stories, novels, play, and movies or TV series. That is, protective. By seeing how the fictional characters, based after all on real experiences of the writers, respond to save themselves from danger, you are protected through the subtle warning.
If you go out for a meal, you might sense how a proprietor, chef or waitperson is going through his or her particular suffering, and sympathize, for this person has to "put on a show" for you no matter what the internal torment.
The more determined and strong side of you is going to keep on with projects important to you, no matter what the mood. Separation from certain people, even if wrenching, is good when it gives you time to fulfill your particular missions or undertakings. Many of yesterday's trends continue. Mercury turns direct at 6:15a PT | 9:15a ET | 1:15p UT, but before you do a dance about that consider that Mercury still moves slowly and the Dark Hermetic Epoch continues until October 14. Things will be easier, however, and perhaps noticeably so as the days advance.
Today is Prime Time all day, defined as (a) not during the |retreat| third of the week, (b) the moon not void of course, and (c) the moon not in the Via Combusta. Of course some Prime Times are better than others.
Let's see what the moon's conjunction with Jupiter means. It is visible in the evening sky, just after sunset; I saw it Monday evening and it was beautiful. The two will be even closer tonight, the moon separating slightly from Jupiter by the time they are visible. The center of this period will be 11a-6p PT | 2p-9p ET | 6p-1a(W) UT. (It is a coincidence that these are the same hours as the moon's trine with the sun yesterday.) The conjunction is not always as smooth as a sextile or trine so there may be differences or disagreements brewing or you may feel concerned and serious rather than totally free-flowing. Still it could be a good time to work out opportunities you have become aware of.
Mars trine Uranus is an interesting and helpful aspect, but like all trines it can lead to laziness, basking in easy benefits rather than working to pyramid them. This is the first day Venus and Mars are in a sextile by a ten-degree orb (lasting through October 25) so you may be dreaming of erotic conquests and (pardon my prudery) this could result in goofing off and losing other possibilities.
Such entanglements of an erotic sort may be complex beyond what you had thought, but need not lead to disaster if you are alert to angelic guidance which shows you what is proper, or of the propriety of the moment, and what is not.

Things could go wrong or you could feel lost. So it is well to hunker down to what you know is important. Fresh decisions involving a departure from what you had planned yesterday or last week are probably a mistake during that time.
The good news is that the moon will trine Venus in the evening, very welcome on a Friday, the day of the week ruled by Venus. We are in the |retreat| third of the week, usually much more difficult for most people. There is always a "however," however, and this time it is the moon's sextiles with Jupiter and Neptune, lifting moods somewhat especially when a philosophic-spiritual attitude is revived.
There is optimism from the sun's gradual separation from Saturn and concurrent approach to a trine with Jupiter (increasing over the next two weeks and lasting two more). Certain innovations in your living which you contemplate are premature but suggestive and helpful (as the carrot before the horse, if you don't find that simile degrading). You are willing to conform with what is required of you by the general situation, your mate, and the culture at large, for your own good let's say although this is also for the common good. Yet you may protest, at least in your mind, against what seem like time-wasting details required of you (while Mercury and Saturn oppose Uranus).
Diversions approached through local travel (or a long-distance journey if you contemplate that) could be sweet, expanding your perspective to cope with things more happily. However, requirements of your job or career are restrictive. It seems all of us feel chained to our posts, at times, and yet the one who breaks free often finds himself returning to the post voluntarily because at a deep level he knows he needs to fulfill his dharma or life-mission.

Ordinary things can go fairly well. Career and financial prospects get a mild boost. Of course while Mercury remains retrograde things can be slow. For example I intended to purchase several needed items on a shopping trip and then forgot some of them, requiring another trip, but I am too busy with other things so am "doing without." Stuff is late; people make peculiar errors; and are dreaming of things other than the immediate situation so can be absent-minded and unreliable. The mess in Congress over health-care reform is probably a good symbol of something else in your own life which is involved in complexity, uncertainty and indecision.
But the moon's sextiles with Mercury and Saturn today could help in sorting that out, at least provisionally. Luna also squares Neptune, so I would say, be very realistic about practical matters, which you can do well, while at the same time indulging internally in idealistic dreams (Neptune) which inspire you although you wouldn't be foolish enough to spill them out to anyone.
One danger is that you could be too easy and soft on yourself, internally, while outwardly rash and wounding toward someone who seems to block your way or challenge you unfairly. A sense of sportsmanship could help, giving an opponent his or her due while remaining firm about your self-interest.
Research or study could strengthen you and your plans. You are honest about the results, not wanting to be misled. So you could impress people with your scrupulosity, although not trying to impress. What's what is what, is your attitude.

As I write, on Sunday, although the moon is in the Via Combusta I had a sweet afternoon, with fascinating human beings interacting in specially pleasing ways. This was moon-sextile-Venus while in that planet's sign Libra.
Today, Monday, Venus is in Scorpio and still in the Via Combusta. The sextile with Venus is fading, as appropriate for a back-to-work day. So there could be a letdown, but as always let's look for the best potentials so we can actualize them.
There is an emphasis on finding and knowing the truth about things. The sun's square with Pluto can be an impatient revealer of secrets. At the lowest, let's say, this could be using a private detective to spy on a mate. It could be a peeping Tom. It could be a dirty joke which backfires. Pluto can be a nasty planet, or else a salacious one. Pornography hidden in a desk drawer. Wholesomely, it could be serious scientific research in any field, even startling discovery.
Curiosity could be intense. This could be healthy or unhealthy. The secrets of nature or of the occult are worth investigating for their own sake and for personal benefit. It is well to be aware of the movements and motives of one's neighbors, perhaps, but not to be spying and gossiping all the time. Prying and peering could become an unhealthy obsession. The time of the end of the |retreat| third of the week was given yesterday. It frees this evening, which could be quite pleasant. Serious concerns remain but less frustrating than recently. New ideas you have been getting, perhaps involving travel or even a home change, are probably premature but worth pondering to see where they lead. Is it really a home change you need, or something more basic in your approach to life?
Someone important to you who assumes a dominant role is directing you; perhaps with wisdom.
You can study something at home which opens up profound understanding. It provides a link also to more stimulating friendships.
It is well to be confident in regard to someone you like, rather than too suspicious.
You have not given up on work you believe in just because the weekend is beginning. What you want to accomplish requires almost daily attention.
You want your relation to your home and location to be four-square, that is, a good basis for the rest of your life and for connections with interesting or helpful people.
When will reaches a pinnacle of insistence it is magic. Your will is for greater harmony in your environment. Usually you can achieve that internally. Sometimes it includes a bit of travel.
Whatever has seemed barren in your life is becoming fruitful. You can take a hint from the season, the harvest time of year. Nature's bounty is yours, and yours imitates nature's. It embraces and blesses family and friends.

\Better Thinking/
Someone wrote yesterday that she felt "bent out of shape." That seems like a good description of what many of us feel while the sun and Saturn lie together toward the end of Virgo and Mercury remains retrograde.
The hope I would distribute is that October, speaking in calendar months for convenience, will be a much better month for several reasons--not just that Mercury will be moving forward but others we will discuss before long.
I like what Robert de Luce says of the sun conjoined to Saturn, after first outlining the sufferings denoted by it traditionally, including illness: "When there is practically no karmic evil to be eliminated [an individual matter] Saturn brings responsibility and the trials are in the nature of a sustaining or strengthening process whereby the individual is prepared for more perfect work in the world. The difficulty in handling this arc is that the mind is apt to become crystallized, narrow or limited when passing through this experience, whereas the virtue of the experience is to eliminate vagueness of mind and indefiniteness of purpose." I hope this last "virtue" is happening for you. And I hope it is happening in Congress where, very appropriately, reform of health care is being worked out in a very tangled (Mercury-retrograde) way. It is quite fascinating that this is happening while Saturn nears the end of Virgo, the sign of health-care in a general sense (it passes into Libra on October 29 but returns to Virgo from April through July in 2010). Let us hope Congress is able to "eliminate vagueness of mind and indefiniteness of purpose."
If you are not going through a health crisis, offer up prayers of thanks! I believe many are suffering in that way. A compensating value however is a sense of heritage, which grants aplomb. Your parents or great-grandparents may be with you somehow, in consciousness.
The square of Mercury and Pluto, very long-lasting this time, is a peculiar one I wish I understood better. It can be fanaticism of sorts, or an obsession with some ideas or hopes you find fascinating to the exclusion of usual interests. That is fine if progressive.
Venus opposing both Jupiter and Neptune (the former aspect ending as of tomorrow) can lead to overeating. The "expansion" of these planets is good in its place but too much expansion leads to disintegration. I shall not preach a sermon on diet-control. Sometimes eating too much is a substitute for friendship or reassurance.
Someone you've been thinking about may want to be with you more than you want to be with him or her. Or vice versa. You could importune or beg one another for friendship, or just drop it. Sometimes the invisible is as real as the visible.
It is peculiar that so many people are being influenced by news media demagogues toward political opinions based on no reality at all and contrary to their self-interest! I hope they become more and more of a minority in the so-called Information Age. Someone wrote yesterday that she felt "bent out of shape." That seems like a good description of what many of us feel while the sun and Saturn lie together toward the end of Virgo and Mercury remains retrograde.
The hope I would distribute is that October, speaking in calendar months for convenience, will be a much better month for several reasons--not just that Mercury will be moving forward but others we will discuss before long.
I like what Robert de Luce says of the sun conjoined to Saturn, after first outlining the sufferings denoted by it traditionally, including illness: "When there is practically no karmic evil to be eliminated [an individual matter] Saturn brings responsibility and the trials are in the nature of a sustaining or strengthening process whereby the individual is prepared for more perfect work in the world. The difficulty in handling this arc is that the mind is apt to become crystallized, narrow or limited when passing through this experience, whereas the virtue of the experience is to eliminate vagueness of mind and indefiniteness of purpose." I hope this last "virtue" is happening for you. And I hope it is happening in Congress where, very appropriately, reform of health care is being worked out in a very tangled (Mercury-retrograde) way. It is quite fascinating that this is happening while Saturn nears the end of Virgo, the sign of health-care in a general sense (it passes into Libra on October 29 but returns to Virgo from April through July in 2010). Let us hope Congress is able to "eliminate vagueness of mind and indefiniteness of purpose."
If you are not going through a health crisis, offer up prayers of thanks! I believe many are suffering in that way. A compensating value however is a sense of heritage, which grants aplomb. Your parents or great-grandparents may be with you somehow, in consciousness.
The square of Mercury and Pluto, very long-lasting this time, is a peculiar one I wish I understood better. It can be fanaticism of sorts, or an obsession with some ideas or hopes you find fascinating to the exclusion of usual interests. That is fine if progressive.
Venus opposing both Jupiter and Neptune (the former aspect ending as of tomorrow) can lead to overeating. The "expansion" of these planets is good in its place but too much expansion leads to disintegration. I shall not preach a sermon on diet-control. Sometimes eating too much is a substitute for friendship or reassurance.
Someone you've been thinking about may want to be with you more than you want to be with him or her. Or vice versa. You could importune or beg one another for friendship, or just drop it. Sometimes the invisible is as real as the visible.

With the sun exactly conjunct Saturn while Mercury is retrograde, you shall be declared a saint if you get through the day without moaning, groaning, bitching, grousing, or complaining.
Still, I find things surprisingly smooth in a lot of ways, and the stock market, for example, has been reassuring. Friendship can be good under the old adage that misery loves company. Chatting casually yields casual support.

Life goes on, but major or costly decisions should be postponed during such times.
An overly aggressive attitude will not help anyone. The sun conjoined to Saturn and opposite Uranus is a warning in that regard. Those who relish warfare may be relishing it too much at the present time and earning bad karma as well as destroying human lives.

Speaking candidly as to fellow astrologers, I must say that the current astrological set-up is perplexing. It consists of a lot of oppositions, basically, although now the whole pattern is falling into a Locomotive type chart, that is, one empty trine (between Mars and Uranus). This puts Mars in high focus, although he is in the sign of his fall, Cancer. This might explain the odd silence in my neighborhood. Even though I live next to a high school, I do not hear shouts and laughter, just silence. Mars acts inwardly when in Cancer, more than outwardly.
Today the moon in Leo moving toward Venus gives us hints of romance, although October will be the romantic month of the near future. That is something to look forward to.
Personal attractions might get you in trouble today, even if the sort of trouble you relish---I am being ambiguous and humorous because after all when Mercury is retrograde nobody knows what the H is going on. Do you relish soap-opera love-tangles? Well you can have them. Do you want to be alone? Someone will invade your privacy and you will be glad.
I did not say this attraction or infatuation is "the real thing." Most likely it is something like a dream of a script-writer, and the script-writer is within your brain. Still it provides uplift and entertainment at the least and a bit of reassurance that love is possible in ways you hadn't foreseen.
You want to enjoy luxuries while someone special lounges nearby. (I did not say "lunges.")

~Respecting Your Integrity and Destiny~
You know we remain in the |retreat| or difficult third of the week until the time given in Friday's forecast (Sunday morning). So I shall not try to be rosy. The moon's square with a retrograde Mercury betokens much double-thinking, backtracking, and confusion. What could rescue you could be (a) ingenuity (less effective) or (b) spiritual consciousness (more effective).
Things could be even wackier early, while the moon is void of course before it enters Cancer at 1:21p PT | 4:21p ET | 8:21p UT. All scheduled activities are on hold. Or changed. Or re-scheduled.
Welcome to Mercury retrograde, once again. This morning (Friday as I write) I slept late, after having vivid dreams, which are another symptom of Mercury-retrograde. I am very late writing this report. I went to an event in my neighborhood scheduled for noon, to find that no one was there. I went back home only to be called on the phone two hours later: the event was finally taking place, very late. Typical of Mercury's backward motion: delays.
Thursday night I went to a concert of contemporary music by the composer George Crumb, in honor of his 80th birthday (October 24, 1929). The first thing we were told was that the order of music on the program would be exactly reversed! The third piece would be the first, the second the second, and the first the third. Could Mercury be going backward?
One of the pieces within a piece was entitled The Interrupted Concert, or El Concierto Interrumpido (from a poem by Federico Garcia Lorca). Actually in the first minute the pianist stopped, looked for her music, couldn't find it and went off the stage to get it. This was not planned, despite the piece's title, but a marvelous bit of Hermetic synchronicity. The old magician in his winged sandals can be quite a trickster.
A more beneficent aspect of Mercury's backwardness is the fact that this was part of a retrospective program of four concerts in honor of Mr. Crumb, the 80-year-old composer who came up to the stage afterward for a standing ovation. I shall not write about him or his music now but I studied his horoscope and his music does imitate it remarkably. "Retrospective" is a Mercury-retrograde word, and reviewing the past a beneficent activity at this time, when it feels right.
Saturday requires you to keep up with your personal spiritual routines. This is very important. It will restore sanity and wholeness.
If you do not take command of your situation, someone or something else will, to your detriment. But actually the best command is the Command of the Highest, for which you must enlist if you are to receive it.
People who are away from you may seem easy targets of criticism, since they cannot fight back or speak for themselves, but it would be better to go easy on them in your mind. They will most likely discover their faults later or sooner. An exception might be in a legal or political situation where some protest is necessary for the sake of integrity.
An aggressive approach has its value when you are aware of gross hypocrisy or tyranny you need to uproot. This could be dangerous but sometimes necessary; still I would say, when there is doubt, wait at least until the moon enters Cancer (time above). The strategy you have in mind could be totally wrong and disastrous.
The agonizingly slow approach is far better than the agonizingly tragic one.

You know we remain in the |retreat| or difficult third of the week until the time given in Friday's forecast (Sunday morning). So I shall not try to be rosy. The moon's square with a retrograde Mercury betokens much double-thinking, backtracking, and confusion. What could rescue you could be (a) ingenuity (less effective) or (b) spiritual consciousness (more effective).
Things could be even wackier early, while the moon is void of course before it enters Cancer at 1:21p PT | 4:21p ET | 8:21p UT. All scheduled activities are on hold. Or changed. Or re-scheduled.
Welcome to Mercury retrograde, once again. This morning (Friday as I write) I slept late, after having vivid dreams, which are another symptom of Mercury-retrograde. I am very late writing this report. I went to an event in my neighborhood scheduled for noon, to find that no one was there. I went back home only to be called on the phone two hours later: the event was finally taking place, very late. Typical of Mercury's backward motion: delays.
Thursday night I went to a concert of contemporary music by the composer George Crumb, in honor of his 80th birthday (October 24, 1929). The first thing we were told was that the order of music on the program would be exactly reversed! The third piece would be the first, the second the second, and the first the third. Could Mercury be going backward?
One of the pieces within a piece was entitled The Interrupted Concert, or El Concierto Interrumpido (from a poem by Federico Garcia Lorca). Actually in the first minute the pianist stopped, looked for her music, couldn't find it and went off the stage to get it. This was not planned, despite the piece's title, but a marvelous bit of Hermetic synchronicity. The old magician in his winged sandals can be quite a trickster.
A more beneficent aspect of Mercury's backwardness is the fact that this was part of a retrospective program of four concerts in honor of Mr. Crumb, the 80-year-old composer who came up to the stage afterward for a standing ovation. I shall not write about him or his music now but I studied his horoscope and his music does imitate it remarkably. "Retrospective" is a Mercury-retrograde word, and reviewing the past a beneficent activity at this time, when it feels right.
Saturday requires you to keep up with your personal spiritual routines. This is very important. It will restore sanity and wholeness.
If you do not take command of your situation, someone or something else will, to your detriment. But actually the best command is the Command of the Highest, for which you must enlist if you are to receive it.
People who are away from you may seem easy targets of criticism, since they cannot fight back or speak for themselves, but it would be better to go easy on them in your mind. They will most likely discover their faults later or sooner. An exception might be in a legal or political situation where some protest is necessary for the sake of integrity.
An aggressive approach has its value when you are aware of gross hypocrisy or tyranny you need to uproot. This could be dangerous but sometimes necessary; still I would say, when there is doubt, wait at least until the moon enters Cancer (time above). The strategy you have in mind could be totally wrong and disastrous.
The agonizingly slow approach is far better than the agonizingly tragic one.

It is fascinating to see how the argument over health care is proceeding toward one climax or another while Saturn approaches the end of Virgo, the sign of health and health-care. When I was counseling large numbers of people by phone I found that individuals with birth-planets in Virgo or Scorpio, or a combination of the two, were very often in the health-care profession. The sun in Virgo is approaching Saturn this week when President Obama gave his speech and tried to move the country and Congress toward some rational approach to the whole issue rather than fear-based hysterics. He has his job cut out for him while Mercury is retrograde.
As for the fires in California, I have pointed out repeatedly over the years that more natural as well as human disasters occur during the Dark Hermetic Epoch (including the attacks on 9/11, the assassination of President Kennedy, and on and on). Firemen are wary of problems this weekend when there may be heavy winds, while officials have concluded an arsonist set the fire (we can't blame all the problems of Mercury retrograde on Mercury or on nature or machines; it is usually human errors, negligences or stupidities which cause the problems).
Perhaps the fires will be controlled even though this weekend again we have the |retreat| or more-difficult third of the week, beginning today at 1:25a PT | 4:25a ET | 8:25a UT and lasting through Saturday until Sunday at 5:21a PT | 8:21a ET | 12:21p UT.
Fortunately the moon's trines with Jupiter and Neptune today, and sextile with Venus, will smooth things, especially in connection with normal routines. Clue: Even when people seem to act in nutty or dissociated ways, you could get into appreciating rather than worrying about that. Take it as instruction or drama, even comedy. Or, when there is too much suffering involved for it to be comedy, find ways of lightening or healing it.
And remember that things go slower while Mercury is retrograde, and especially when we are also in the |retreat| period. Hurry just increases worry. Learning to "hang out" and let your mind browse through life is essential.
Repeated attempts to connect with people may seem to fail. Yet they turn out in other ways than intended which may be just as good or better. When you fail to link with A, B may turn up fortuitously. You gain merit through the people you associate with.

The Mercury-retrograde period is fully upon us (September 6-29). Those of you who have been reading these reports for years know pretty much what I will say, but even for myself it helps to reformulate a plan for this period. Here is a thumbnail sketch: Divide your activities into two groups:
Clear Duties __________Other Stuff and New Ideas
a, b, c . . . ________________ x, y, z . . .
Now, whenever you feel lassitude, despair, weariness, boredom, or uncertainty, think about the Clear Duties list. These are things you just need to do (according to your own soul-choice, as it were, even if they seem imposed "from outside"). Most likely, you will be wanting to try something form the "Other Stuff" list instead. Well, it's your decision, but when Mercury is retrograde too often people gravitate to the "Other Stuff" and get in all kinds of trouble.
But a need for "difference" or "something else" is also a need during this time. So you could do the following on a given day: Select a few of the Clear Duties and determine to get them done. But realize they may take longer than usual and so perhaps do fewer of them than you would normally. Then, in the time left over, let yourself experiment with some of the Other Stuff. This could be quite fascinating and illumining. However, it could go too far, so remember that, and get back to the Clear Duties before things get way out of hand.
That's about the best I can do for all-purpose advice during the Mercury Retrograde period. Except this, which is very important: Resist an impulse to "drop everything" when it comes to job, marriage, home, school, or whatever is basic in your life. Quitting a job at these times is usually a mistake. Filing for divorce could be. Moving could be, not necessarily, but if you have a lot of doubts about it it is probably a mistake. And so on. The President's advice to school kids on Tuesday, "Never give up," is timely.
I wish our culture could realize the cyclic nature of time. It is not true that every day is the same and the same attitude ought to rule every day. It would be good for everyone to reduce external expectations during the Mercury Retrograde period (and even the whole Dark Hermetic Epoch, which lasts several weeks longer). That means, don't expect things to work out as quickly. Give it time. Do what you can but when something in you tells you "this isn't working" you need to slow down and try an alternate approach for a while. Not suicide (which I believe happens more often during these times). And not quitting your job, except in extreme cases. But something you can work in around your Clear Duties. Even those Duties need to be examined because some of them could be false, that is, mistaken in the way you think they need to be done. Often less is more at these times. "Slacking off" could be the cardinal sin of sloth, or it could be a needed retreat helping your soul to recover poised orientation.
Obviously every case is different and you need to use your judgment, but I think this explanation could help you get through the period more gracefully and happily.
Thursday is Prime Time (apart from what has just been said), so you can expedite many factors, especially those related to job or profession.
Disagreements about philosophy, religion and politics are frequent while Venus opposes Jupiter. You want people to truckle to your notions, as it were. And they you. When a more stringent analysis of ideas and policies is required, instead people revert to their biases. (This is pretty evident in the humongous health-care dispute, not worthy of being called debate, going on in the U.S., almost the only country in the world without a government health-care plan.)
There is luck with many matters when you act from your deeper intuition. But beware of the sort of pride which amounts almost to foolishness. You may see it in others more easily than in yourself. If you don't want others to judge you, you need to extend the same favor to them, letting them learn what they lack in their own way no matter how circuitous that seems.
Whether called horse-s... or bull-s..., mental manure is good only when left to decay in the soil. If, instead, you feel your honor is being smeared with it, you can protest, but patiently, for sometimes enduring unmerited shame is required of us. "Let it go" is a Mercury-retrograde motto.
Everyone has her or his personality-secret, that is, something which grants favor or charm, and sometimes it is the more effective the less noticed by its possessor.
Reverting to the old and familiar in business could protect you from loss. The old, even archaic, has its fascination.
Accounting is important. You could re-examine old records and see how to use them to your benefit.
When things seem stopped or delayed in a partnership, you can re-examine your objectives and let the whole situation expand in a more relaxed way, partly by letting the partner have his or her say even when you'd rather go it alone.
Foolish obstinacy would be clinging to your own obsessions when the World-Spirit or Zeitgeist is against them. Healthy obstinacy would be clinging to your ideals when "the world" of the Tester or Tempter (Satan) despises them.

We have Prime Time, although since Mercury is retrograde and will be until the 29th no time is as Prime as it would be otherwise. It is well to think twice or thrice before deciding on any change of plans. Ordinary shopping or business should go better today (or Tuesday if you're reading this then) than the rest of the week, while the moon in Taurus is trine two Virgo planets. You are shrewd enough to avoid bad deals.
Some people take longer than others to arrive at success. The patient, plodding type can sometimes get more done, in the course of a whole lifetime, than the one who shoots up to the top in a hurry.
You shine in your own sphere of activity, no matter what anyone thinks or judges of your performance. It takes time for people to separate wheat from chaff and you do not have to blow away if someone considers you the latter.
Business partnership is difficult. It requires you to be patient with those who are impatient. Some training you have had, which has developed your skill, is foreign to someone important who underestimates what you are doing.
Further learning is good, whether acquired in a public place or alone. You want to be respected, and shall be if you stay with what has proved itself in your experience.
The past, and musty old things, have present value. Traditions and old haunts could be uplifting to your spirits. A friend may perceive such things other than you do, but there is no need to argue about it.

Now that we have finished Labor Day we return to labor. The moon in Taurus sextile Mars and trine the sun bodes well for ordinary business, reasonable decisions and choices, shopping and the like.
Having watched the position of the Part of Fortune for years, which changes every few days as does the moon, I am getting a feeling of what it means when in the 8th House as it is today. It is something like wanting to be elsewhere, or longing for the unattainable, or wanting to get some fresh foundation which nevertheless turns out to be old and reliable rather than really new. It can be disconcerting or reassuring depending on one's spiritual attitude. And if that sounds confusing, it can be a confusing time.
It is well to direct your mind and feelings toward something you esteem as momentous and significant, rather than to trivial amusement. Your impulses are strong, but can be tamed toward the true and enduring.
We are in a serious phase of things while the sun moves toward Saturn in Virgo. You want to accomplish something significant and attend to your working methods to refine them. This is partly with the aim of preventing problems which could arise from too much laziness (which you are aware of in yourself and are trying to curtail).
A creative and simple approach may be best, that is, relying on your own true nature to manifest in a childlike way which impresses people through direct sincerity.
You are well aware of the weaknesses of someone you value as a friend, and yet know that this person has something very deep and real which more than makes up for the foibles. So it is well to keep faith with him or her through dark or wayward times, such as perhaps right now.
It is wonderful to consider your blessings, which are considerable; you do not have to exert yourself for many of them. On Labor Day, we perform no labor. This we might have a hard time explaining to an extraterrestrial visitor.
Was I right about the weekend? Didn't I say that the tide would change late Sunday and that before that we were in the |retreat| period of the week? Where I live, the physical weather changed exactly on late Sunday afternoon, the sun came out (it had been dark all weekend) and people started to smile and be happy. But even if in some parts of the world there were storms and pounding rain, I would guess people felt better, saying "Oh isn't the rain marvelous?" and had a good time indoors.
In short, Cosmic Piper was right again.
So today, Monday, we should have a quite pleasant day, at least until the moon makes its sextile with Neptune at 5:13p PT | 8:13p ET | 12:13a(Tu) UT; after that it is void of course, for a winding-down evening.
Ordinary, conventional pleasures may be the best. People are disguising their odd disagreements (in Truth there are no disagreements) and getting along as best they can for the sake of mutual peace.

We are in the |retreat| third of the week and the moon goes void of course (after its conjunction with Uranus in Pisces) at 9:54a PT | 12:54p ET | 4:54p UT. So after that things could seem rather bleak or pointless for a while until Luna enters Aries at 7:15p PT | 10:15p ET | 2:15a(Su) UT. Even then, the |retreat| or difficult period lasts until Sunday at 3:22p PT | 6:22p ET | 10:22p UT. Actually this period is in effect for about 35% of the time, but seems longer when the moon is slow. It is retreating from the weekends and will leave them free starting Saturday the 19th, although that weekend, as luck would have it, the moon will be in the Via Combusta.
I have to recommend peaceful, calming activities, or plain old rest, rather than anything ambitious or exciting. That could change by Monday.

So today would be a better party or get-together day than Friday. Yet the mood is mixed and can be down at certain moments, an alternation between optimistic energy and depression. You will probably select the people you choose to be with pretty carefully.
The "What's it all about, and why bother?" attitude is exacerbated by the Dark Hermetic Epoch lasting until October 14. The fires in the West are a symptom of this, and an effective indicator of the burning and trouble is the very long-lasting square between Mars and Mercury, still exact. Strange things are happening. My email is not working. The weather is peculiar. Other communications about important topics have been failing. We must be in the Dark Hermetic Epoch.
I have not been mentioning it lately because I wasn't feeling it crucially until the past few days. Yesterday and today I am feeling it very strongly.
I don't have time here to outline the meaning of that two-month period (August 17 until October 14 this time) but if you have been reading these reports for a while you must know the basics of what it means.
Caution is important. That is not a paranoid warning, just an advisement to let common sense rule whenever you are in doubt, and avoid unnecessary risks. Of course it is your own judgment which will determine that, but I would say, ratchet up your judgment's skepticism by a notch or two when it comes to anything either dangerous or way out of your usual pattern.
The fires in California and the miserably contaminated election in Afghanistan are two incidences of what the Dark Epoch can mean. A third is the stock market's downward trend (so far) this week. People tend to feel they are somewhat lost. The period tends to get denser, or darker, as we proceed into it, and especially during the Mercury-retrograde period at its center, which will be from September 6 until September 29. (I did not say that the stock market will plunge during that period, however, although it might; it is extremely difficult to predict market trends with any certainty. I do fairly accurate guesswork, but it remains guesswork.)
I am writing this report on the Yahoo Group website rather than in my email, and that is the first time I have had to do that in perhaps years. I'm also writing it almost two hours later than I intended. The unexpected is to be expected. Sometimes, of course, this can be pleasant rather than dismal surprises.
On Wednesday we technically have Prime Time until the moon conjoins Neptune at 10:20p PT | 1:20a(Th) ET | 5:20a(Th) UT, after which it is void of course. But this is not a very prime Prime so I would call it sub-prime, because Neptune can be a confusing planet except when it is with trines and sextiles from other planets. According to your spiritual awareness will be your mood today.
There could be a tendency toward laziness and snobbishness, or drifting on your prerogatives. There could be a rabid impulse toward revenge. This, of course, could have disastrous results.
You are likely to persist in a very strong way with whatever seems radically important to you. That is good so long as you are sure of your ground.
A simple and honest approach will win eventually, if people feel you are being transparent, almost childlike.
An old, archaic, or well-used place could be good for you, helping you regain poise and mental perspective.
As yesterday, spiritual study and prayer will help even if you don't "feel like" doing it at first. It may taste like medicine, then turn into tonic or elixir.
As an escape you could turn to something luxurious but meaningless. Well, a little of that is okay but a little goes a long way.
I don't mean to be Puritan but I think you will sense what I am saying; that your true self wants to do something a little more dedicated at this time.

There could be a tendency toward laziness and snobbishness, or drifting on your prerogatives. There could be a rabid impulse toward revenge. This, of course, could have disastrous results.
You are likely to persist in a very strong way with whatever seems radically important to you. That is good so long as you are sure of your ground.
A simple and honest approach will win eventually, if people feel you are being transparent, almost childlike.
An old, archaic, or well-used place could be good for you, helping you regain poise and mental perspective.
As yesterday, spiritual study and prayer will help even if you don't "feel like" doing it at first. It may taste like medicine, then turn into tonic or elixir.
As an escape you could turn to something luxurious but meaningless. Well, a little of that is okay but a little goes a long way.
I don't mean to be Puritan but I think you will sense what I am saying; that your true self wants to do something a little more dedicated at this time.
