Forecast: Wednesday and Thursday, 1-2 May, 2013

Wednesday 1 May 2013

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Aquarius
beginning at 7:21a PT | 10:21a ET | 2:21p UT
/(moon void-of-course only 13 minutes before that time)
|Karmically difficult or sobering third| of this week continues all day
and through Thursday until early Friday

A decorated window looks like a holiday, but the man gazing out
Ponders battles to avoid. The owl sees a snake and moves away.
Butterflies dance near flowers, sharing performance-language.
A thought-arrow flies so high it hits a mark no one sees.

}Limits as Safety{

Anticipating problems is wise, to prevent unexpected repercussions. One can be silent and watchful like an owl. Yet much that is beautiful, symbolic, and promising is present both in consciousness and reality. ("Consciousness is Reality" is one of the axioms of the thesis Occult Philosophy by Marc Edmund Jones.) Wise caution is normal while the sun and Mars continue to oppose Saturn. Combining that with the material good fortune of Venus in Taurus would make a complete approach to the day. Control and regulation prevent problems.

It is impossible, perhaps, to comprehend the cruelty of certain individuals. Yet the all-encompassing Lord knows what it all means. The forecast for Monday mentioned a Chinese gentleman (in the quatrain) and that evening I went to a coffee shop where a tea on the menu was named after Mao. I was furious and expressed my regret--Mao was a torturer and murderer, clearly and simply. Then I sat down and started reading and ran into a discussion of some of the class structure of the Chinese Communist Party. This was all totally unexpected. The cruelty today could be that of a Mao, that is, someone so sure of himself, so sure he is right that he thinks he has the right to make the lives of others horrid in order to carry out his "correct" agenda. To make concessions to such persons is probably always a mistake. I told the people in the coffee shop that they ought to take the name of that tea off the menu. As for one's own tendency toward harshness or cruelty, one could make it more subtle, and therefore more effective as a dramatization, as I tried to do regarding the menu.

You cut out a line of progress which is striking to observers, even if they don't get why you are doing it. You can rely on something or someone you trust, a book or Bible or textbook or authority, to point out your path. This can prevent misjudgment. Your chosen guide may not always be clearly on target but his or her guidance will modify your own judgment toward something safer and confirm your best intuitions.

Losing your temper would not be wise, and the tendency to argument is present, even if the argument is within your own mind. Yes, there are principles and you are convinced of some of them. There is also a need for liquidity in estimating whether or not others are living up to principles. There may be factors you don't see. You are fit for impersonal mental pursuits.

There are sympathetic and graceful possibilities, if you try to see people as children, as sons or daughters who make mistakes in learning how to live. Then there can be reciprocity and concord. Specialized objectives shared with others have each their own language. You may be able to converse, chat, or communicate with someone who speaks a  specialized language you share.

Secrets are useful as methods of defense. You have some. They help you to be prepared for the unexpected. You can be thrifty in some ways, generous in others; wanting to make others happy like children at Christmas although not going too far. The limits which Saturn (as a principle rather than planet, though the planet's motions show how the principle operates) puts on us become evident to you in simple ways so you can prevent yourself from failing in your mission or agenda. Going beyond the correct limits would be failure. Seeing what is necessary and doing it patiently would be a slow, wisely limited approach to success.

Thursday 2 May 2013

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Aquarius
/moon goes void-of-course at 9:26p PT | 12:26a(F) ET | 4:26a(F) UT
|Karmically difficult or sobering third| of this week continues
until Friday at 2:15a PT | 5:15a ET | 9:15a UT

The fruit is green, robust and growing in an orchard filled with bees.
A cross stands there calling the mind to aid for the afflicted.
Six seekers gather to talk their teacher's language while a dog
Chases another for a bone. A dove coasts on wings posting a message.

}Enlisted for Self and Humanity{

A time to get one's finances and material concerns in order is here. It can be done. Career and job tensions are merely indicators of gradual movement toward improvement. One can enlist in endeavors which have a humanitarian focus as well. Dogged persistence has its reward.

Strong sensibilities contribute to a psychic or mediumistic trend. Your convictions guide, and reawaken you to what is worth doing.

Your mental powers are intense and beneficent. They fly like an arrow toward what you seek. If feeling exhausted temporarily, what with the oppositions to Saturn, you can recover through guidance spiritually inspired, as on heavenly wings.

Clever as well as careful order in everything including finances is a boon. Your resources are sustaining you and making possible  artistic, musical or entertaining events or media, perhaps especially in the evening while the moon is square Venus (a sometimes peculiarly thrilling aspect).

A selfish trend is not all bad; you need to take care of your interests. It is when comparisons with others or their position or status are issues that there can be disattunement and  the unpleasantness of envy and greed. But you share special preoccupations with an interest group, and can devote yourself to those in way which is exhilarating.

A wish may be granted, in the evening if not earlier. You are nourished by nature as well as industry and skill. You lose a sense of separateness by caring about those who need assistance and enlisting in whatever will aid them. This has a feeling of inevitable rightness about it.

Monday 29 April 2013

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Capricorn

The girl sleeping in violet flowers is greeted by a Chinese
Gentleman. He encourages her to prune her trees
Through his expertise. Leaden clouds lift as a bird sings.
The arrow missing target one hits targets two and three.

\Adhering to an Original Agenda/

There are so many mixed signals. The moon in Capricorn trine the sun and Mars in Taurus suggest one can go full steam ahead with projects; whatever is important. Other signals suggest laziness, letting things be, easy relaxation into good fortune which could mean that the good fortune won't last long. Covetousness is not good, but neither is the temerity of laziness.

Gardening could go well. Birds may be noticeable. You are establishing a haven of natural good fortune around yourself. Or, perhaps, most of it is already established for you.

There is executive ability, together with originality. There is no need for a scuffle when there are contending forces (Mars and sun opposite Saturn) but rather the excitement you ignite, drawing attention to yourself, can be to your benefit in subtle ways if you continue to press forward with a thrilling agenda. If what you are doing has the world-matrix or the Divine Matrix behind it, financing will be there.

Depressing monotony could be a problem if you are coasting too much on past approaches. Something to make it all more interesting would help. Then you can adhere to your past agenda, but with a fresh twist making it more appealing and real.

Slipping into too-easy self-indulgence could be an unnoticed problem. The time is ripe for action, for execution of plans. Your destiny is to do something different from the usual, along the lines of your special interests. Giving them happy attention will rouse you from laziness.

The easy path may be inoffensive, but weak. Something unrealized is calling to you for actuation. You may be surprised how smoothly this goes. No matter how small the domain of one's executive powers, using them well grants royal prerogatives.

Tuesday 30 April 2013

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Capricorn
|Karmically difficult or sobering third| of this week
begins at

In the fight, one must be defeated. He accepts it gracefully.
Clouds and wind knock at the windows of the CEO in his
Skyscraper office. A colleague chats and jokes maliciously.
There is no fuel for the car, so invisible wings are required.

\Mischief Dissolved in Calm Detachment/

Just and fair relationships get a green light. Envy, mischief and harassment do not have to be part of them. They are sustained by something greater than that.

The immolation of a woman, perhaps a motherly or elderly one, shows how much she cares about sustaining those she has loved. Fighting over money is the way of the world. It is better to accept defeat gracefully, sometimes, when that is expedient.

Studies and links with people go well at home when you are hanging out. Uneasiness has to do with trying to be fair while also executing one's aims in a hurried manner. There can be too much at hand all at once. You can deal with some of it hastily. It is exalting to be on top of it.

Someone important to you is showing his or her backbone by holding on to studies of mysteries which have sustained him in the past, and facing down opposition to that.

Some of your interests may seem literally crazy to some. Yet they sustain your consciousness as long as you don't let them get too diverse and scattered. The assumptions involved may be right or wrong; most likely that are partially both, but if you are not stupidly stubborn they are evolving toward something more reliable and healthy. You pull them back toward the center of yourself when you are watchful as to your self-interest, for you serve yourself as well as "the world."

When one feels out of sorts one can be envious and mischievous. Of course that does not make for good impressions on people or good karma. Adjusting things carefully, to bring out justice and fairness, is essential, for you judge also yourself and that can be harsh. There are sustaining melodies in the background of life, with three planets in Taurus one of the most musical signs, and these can aid in victory over your disposition, which leads to victory also in the world.

Forecast: Saturday and Sunday, 27-28 April, 2013

Saturday 27 April 2013

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Sagittarius

In a green field with shrubs lie rocks, inchoate stirrings
Within them composing a hieroglyphic message. Two
White cows relax, ignoring a tiger, while a man wheels
A barrow toward a gorge to keep building a bridge.

*Reserved, Meaningful Festivity*

When two relax together, there is a sense of ease and advantage. Yet there may be nervousness about something lurking in the background, a possibility of problems. Are these inevitable? No, but it could be well to be prepared for them, without letting that ruin the time of mutual relaxation. There are ways to overcome obstacles by making channels for communication and transfer.

You may be near a field containing a villa or pleasant building. You feel content with what you have, shrewdly aware of how to make it last. There can be festivity, which has a somewhat intellectual caste, a sharing of insight. Things are being arranged and composed gradually.

Awkwardness and impracticality do not have to make things harder but could try to do so. When failing to convey what you think and feel to someone, rather than drop everything carelessly you might try for more pertinent ways of communicating with this particular person. Your surveillance, both physically and mentally, of the situation can lead to partial success.

Being a servant of someone is not a mistake if there is a magical process afoot, that is, something reverential or devotional in your attitude to what you are doing. That would emancipate you from concern about hard work involved.

Intellectual preoccupations can look like witless lassitude to those who do not appreciate them. "Just getting by" in the material world can allow more time for mental pleasures and interests. One can be resigned to one's lot without being defeated, because one is developing insight and poise which make everything more interesting and worth while.

Things look very good at some levels, with excellent aspects (the so-called "minor aspects," actually major while lasting within a  small orb) between faster-moving planets and Jupiter as well as Neptune. Live, enjoy! It will not ruin your satisfactions if you wisely heed premonitions of possible trouble, so you can outwit it. This is not onerous paranoia but smart prevention. Then you can relax within a given time frame while building channels toward desirable destinations. Happiness shared is doubled or tripled.

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Sagittarius
/moon goes void-of-course at 9:38p PT | 12:38a(M) UT | 4:38a(M) UT

Traffic is south; he heads north. Where are they going? A game?
He turns around. Entering the stadium he takes up with one
Who shares his special interests. Three supporting each team
Jostle and joke. A sharp woman eggs him on to think and speak.

*Gently Turbulent Awakening*

A danger is ignoring one's deepest self's guidance and following paths contrary to the direction of true destiny. This could result in serious delay of progress. It is not always true that others are right and oneself is wrong! Yet it could be true sometimes, so an awakening to a possible reversal of direction could be to your benefit.

Those who are unfortunate may put the bite on you for aid, such as a homeless person or beggar. How you deal with this is your own choice. I have often regretted being stingy in such situations. Making a contribution to someone could be contributing to mutual trust within the human race, which we need. When someone is trying to enter into a better situation, transplanting his roots, aid may be required. Giving something other than a few dollars, such as conversation and encouragement, is another possibility.

Organizational skill is with you to resolve issues. You can explore whatever needs exploring, shoot arrows into the distance to mark out frontiers toward which you are traveling. What are your desires, and what your necessities? The battle between them is not debilitating but strengthening.

Looking for what you need seriously guarantees finding it, because destiny is behind the search. The number six is important. Perhaps you could write down three things you want to do, and three things you must do, ponder how you could do all six, and from there arrive at intuitive guidance as to what is next. When these six rub against one another in your mind, they strike sparks of insight. Your proclivities and aspirations guide effectively.

With the moon trining Mercury from Sagittarius to Aries (exact just before the void-of-course period) you could follow intellectual interests of a specialized kind which thrill you. Differences of opinion do not have to be off-putting but rather stimulating. In addition, more home-centered or community-centered activities are good, inspiring confidence in you and making you beloved of children, young people, or older ones looking for becoming support.

It is usually futile to swim against the stream. If you sense that you are doing this in some area, your answer is to awaken to all the potentials others are harboring within them, of which you might not be aware, and open yourself to those as well as to your own obsessions. Then the mutuality of attempted living, no matter what, will inseminate you to align you with warmer prospects.

Forecast: Thursday and Friday, 25-26 April, 2013

Thursday 25 April 2013

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio
moon in the Via Combusta but on course
|Karmically difficult or sobering third| of this week
continues until very late tomorrow (Friday) evening

He has been to the dentist, his mouth uncomfortable
While listening to a man on a dais spout startling truth.
A new widow joins him, her mourning continuing.
At the table she spills food; shows him meaningful jewels.

~Calm Reorientation~

"Rightness" is what we are called upon to manifest, or righteousness in some sense. The oppositions of Mars, sun and Venus in Taurus with Saturn in Scorpio are intense, calling for reorientation. There is resistance to this, deriving from a sense of grief or despair about something or someone. There is a feeling that one does not know what is really going on or that events are wrapped in mystery. Eternal values are needed to prevent falling into ineptitude.

Turning to the Supreme is something most of us do in times of crisis. It is well to do this about the most practical situations including any problem of health or well-being. While using whatever material methods one has found useful, one can give thanks for them and offer them up to the Highest who is the source of all remedies. This can liquidate one's troubles.

One can feel impotent when one lets things go, dropping them carelessly or out of frustration. One may feel one has been foolhardy. However, there is value in spontaneous groping toward whatever might be the next step, even if that involves a playful and impractical approach at the beginning. It takes time for the next agenda to emerge from apparent loss.

Whatever gains one has enjoyed can turn one toward reverence for the Source of those gains. Then one can proceed with one's normal activities and assignments, which are what make one a member of human society who is valued. This is magic.

Someone who has a huge understanding which you admire has been put in your life to guide you toward the source of mind-wealth. There is a choice sometimes between physical activity or exercise which develops the body, and study or meditation which develops consciousness. Both can be done, but usually at different times; you may be working out an accommodation between them.

A calm sense of justice, that one has been just and is continuing to be just, brings peace. Then there is liberality and givingness, to keep the whole world in harmony. Some things and people in your past, very meaningful to you, have a different or lesser role to play now, and this can bring grief until there is calm reorientation. You have not lost them, but they are with you in a different way as you turn to what needs attention at present. That could include an individual important to you who has problems with which you are able to cope.

When beans are spilled, no one bothers to count them.
When the deceased loom large, they become beneficent
Fairies. When the mystic withdraws to his study, friends
Knock on the door. Proceed to singing and dancing!

~Relief from Loneliness~

Maintaining a secure holding pattern is one of the best things to do. The darkness of the day can be relieved by study and deep reverie. You find somehow that though you don't seek friends, they turn up. They are seeking reorientation within themselves because of losses or apparent losses or some ill-defined malaise.
There can be entertainment, planned or free-form, which is wonderful even if amateurish. Dancing and singing relieve worries in a purifying manner. Creativity meets the kaleidoscope of life with intense interest yet a light touch; so there is a metamorphosis of everything into spiritual poetry and artistry.

Just dropping things is a temptation. Fine, when your essential work for the day is done; or even within it if you take breaks here and there. You may wonder how you could be so forgetful or klutzy at certain moments. But then a kind of sophisticated humor surges up within you and you make fun of yourself, anyone or everyone. You wink at life and carry on; life winks back.

A secret side of you is linked with ritual, mystical study, or magical procedures. This is best when there is no perversion in it but a straightforward approach to what seems fortunate for the next phase of your living. It's wonderful when hopes are fulfilled, but even unfulfilled ones are fortifying and life-giving.

Bodily luxury is evident with three planets in Taurus, including Venus the sign's ruler. Being a contented cow has its merits, so long as it doesn't slip into complete decadence. Renouncing some pleasures is necessary some times. Lazy imagination has value so long as it doesn't rule out healthy activity.
Intuition can guide into hidden meanings. The mysteries of life are thrilling when partially comprehended. (If fully comprehended they would no longer be mysteries; less thrilling!)

You can see disappointment or bitterness opening out into a realization of simple creative contributions you can make to life through non-self-conscious talents. No matter how you tend toward being alone, people are drawn to you.

Forecast: Tuesday and Wednesday, 23-24 April, 2013

Tuesday 23 April 2013

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Libra

A man spills a basket of fruit in a garden where
A woman waters flowers. Tomatoes and pears
Are coming along. Twelve jewels form an amulet
Fit for a king, but a magician is their owner.

}Competence Shared{

Your interests are intense, based on emotional needs including the coziness of good friendships and relationships. You are hopeful, as the Full Moon approaches, yet watchful because you don't want anything to spoil plans. Prosperity is likely as a result of such care.

Growing things are emphasized, whether plants for nutrition or beauty. Taurus seems the quintessential sign of the garden and now we have the sun, Mars and Venus therein, with the last enthroned in her own sign. You may have a mission in connection with plants for food, or flowers may enhance some other mission.

We have seen the results of a lack of a strong family, or family orientation, in the sad case of the two brothers from Chechnya. They are not the only ones suffering in such a way. Without an anchorage in something like family (or a spiritual family as sufficient substitute), there can be too much faith in individual haphazard good luck, resulting in primitive adventure and loss. There is a longing for something to anchor the continuity of being. Then competence and safety can become the norm.

You are impressionable, aware of others' suffering as well as your own. You are sympathetic, but could find that a link with the Highest is needed to ground feelings and sympathies. Magicians as well as prophets, from ancient times, have found that reverence and devotion, including the renunciation of profitless byways, are essential if they are to accomplish mighty deeds.

We have seen what sedition and wrath have done to two young men and their victims. It is unlikely that readers of these words are inclined in any such direction, yet subconscious tendencies can be within us undermining conscious intentions. The result is imprisonment, whether literally or psychologically. To prevent this, or escape it, deep sincerity is required--maybe "gonzo sincerity." That often requires giving the Other the benefit of the doubt, in order to prevent one's own sincerity being doubted.

If one's biases are evident to all, one is moving against the stream. Yet one can, by dissolving one's obstreperous lower self in the larger self of humanity, arrive at healthy reorientation. One is not a thief of others' personalities and attainments, yet one participates in them and absorbs them into oneself. This can happen through observation, conversation, reading, movies, TV shows.

You do not have to lose powers or faculties. When you drop something they seem in abeyance, but "abeyance" means they can be revived. That requires care, of course, along some line which yields something useful to others or perhaps the world of growing things. You are then stimulating your faculties as well as the embodied energies of others.

It is not perverse to care for oneself and one's well-being, including possessions and finances. The natural world is hopeful as it grows again toward seasonal fruition. So are we. Confidence, competence and care yield satisfaction.

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Libra

|Karmically difficult or sobering third| of this week

While armies contend, a soldier walks away and gazes at the population.
Two butterflies light on an orange flower. A man chopping wood near a
Cottage seems content. One golden insect has three wings, the better to fly
Down a rainbow. A giant loses the pot of gold claimed by the butterfly.

}Letting It Be Easier{

I realize that sometimes you must think (as I do) Well, this is just another day, why all this drama in these forecasts, as if it were the last day of my life and I had to make good? I am with you. I guess that subconsciously I am writing these reports just as if that were true. I wish I could escape it! It seems to be an assignment I have as Cosmic Piper. I would like to "take it light" but feel a responsibility to report what might go wrong so you can prevent that from happening.

There can be sympathy and grace; a gentle and easygoing quality with three major planets now in Taurus and the moon in Libra, another Venus-ruled sign. There is much faith that, whatever the doubts of the period, with those three planets opposing Saturn in Scorpio, you will come through all right and your money prospects are not as bad as you had worried recently.

Those in the military may need to be watchful to prevent serious problems creeping up, probably in connection with ethnic rivalry or enmity and accompanying resistance to "authority." Those who feel used, abused and exploited by another ethnicity need to figure out how to make it somehow in the situation in which they find themselves.

Those who feel bereft of parents or guidance are managing to find other ways of guiding themselves through difficult karma. When normal stabilizing, reassuring conditions are absent, they grow an extra wing as it were to help them fly in a way no one could have taught them.

Some find themselves alone but feeling they are worthy of better employment, a high position. So they look out over the masses and wonder at them, feeling aloof but strong within themselves. Since the Supreme is their only friend, they have learned secrets from Him.

Others, isolated, feel that they are being overshadowed by someone and that this could knock them from their prideful position. It would be foolhardy to build a tower inhabited only by one or two, as the Tarot shows in its Arcanum XVI. Rather, laboring with one's heart in one's work, with goodwill and contentment, on the plains and gardens of life, one is appreciated by the world for one's naturalness and generosity.

We sometimes do not know the natural laws against which we fight. Somehow we need to awaken to them so we do not "kick against the pricks." We can liquidate false notions which are keeping us from fulfillment, and, with less ambition and more humility, just do what seems laid out for us to do.

Rather than dropping everything, or fumbling it, while the moon is void-of-course, you could apply visualization to what you would really like in the next phase of your life, and this would be like a rope to hold to, pulling you toward what you wish. That involves recovering from any embarrassment, with a sense of adventure.

The toils and doubts of the day do not have to be utterly depressing or debilitating. There are incentives; a promise of treasure. Some incentives might be false, lies, as the proverbial carrot hanging in front of the horse. Others, like the rainbow's pot of gold, may be illusory in appearance yet fortifying because they keep us going when otherwise we might give up. Meanwhile there are glimmers of peace, hope, affection and reciprocity.

Forecast: Sunday and Monday, 21-22 April, 2013

Sunday 21 April 2013

Sun in Taurus and Moon in Virgo
/moon goes void-of-course at 11:04p PT | 2:04a(M) ET | 6:04a(M) UT

The dark sky yields naught but dry flashes, lightning poverty.
The figure 2 appears, but only 1 can see it. A triangle is dark
Until it brightens into blue. The woman haranguing is winked at
By a portly man walking among pigeons. Grape vines blossom.

\Transforming Grace/

When there is a catharsis of events and attitudes, one can lose one's aplomb temporarily. The transformation can be terrifying, as in the initiation rituals of old times. Recapitulating painful experiences, one gets past the suffering into fresh understanding. After a smooth recovery, one inspires confidence and faith in others.

What seems unfavorable or malignant is a process of test, a chance to prove oneself. At the same time, remarkable protection is provided as if from on high. Past cruelties can seem to vanish entirely in the light of guaranteed victory, no matter how long delayed.

Self-assertion overcomes desolation. Phantoms in one's memory could produce hysteria if one let them. On the other hand, "dead" or living individuals who have gained power may grant boons which are powerfully protective, if one can attune oneself to such help.

Aloneness is interesting. It is always in partnership with the absent one. That is, to be alone is to be aware of others who are not there. Who are they? might be a good question. You might find yourself lifting something, carrying it uphill or into upper stories, literally or symbolically, as a member of a community whether or not you think of it that way. We are not alone. Still, the poverty of our lives can make us feel as if we are.

Acquisitiveness is good when in harmony with nature and one's life-destiny. All can acquire what they really need. At times the munificence of the world is a marvel, filling one's basket with fruits unearned, so that one can enjoy the harmony of the universal scheme without worry, glorying in romance and the fine arts. It is your legacy, and a legacy you pass on.

Straining after the inappropriate can be hurtful to oneself. Sometimes the inappropriate takes the form of trying to reform the world in some way which does not fit with the world's present karmic or dharmic set-up. This is a hard lesson. One's idealism is correct, one's desire to improve things is correct, but the time is not ripe. And so one's indignation at what is wrong becomes futile. The world and individuals require time to become their better selves.

Those consigned to difficult labor in this life may be lacking the ability to escape it, or it may be the right work for them. But at times Grace intervenes and gives them special gifts or benefits. The Author of the cosmic scheme which includes humanity on a small planet is not a miserly monster. He works most often through human beings, so the spirit of sharing is His gift to all.

Transformation is happening. You may note it in young people. They appreciate those who understand them and their struggles. They are exploring and appreciate those who wink at the mistakes they make while exploring. The disappointments of the Venus-opposite-Saturn aspect (discussed in Wednesday's forecast) are not so bad when we open ourselves to Grace in the Supreme and in human beings, while manifesting that Grace as best we may.

\Turning the Bitter to the Better/

Sometimes the classical aspects in astrology, namely, those formed among the 6 planets (other than the moon but including the sun) known to the ancients, explain a great deal of what is going on. ("Other than the moon" because he forms daily aspects, not long-lasting ones). At present we have had the sun conjoined to Mars in Aries, the sign of Mars and the sign of the sun's exaltation. Let no one say that this is a bad aspect! It could be tremendous, giving strength, energy, confidence, all the glories of the sun and Mars, manifested by females as well as males even though these two planets are quintessentially male in tradition. If you and I have not been manifesting (or womanifesting) these wonderful qualities, we cannot blame the planets.

However, human beings manage (or womanage) to make good things bad; we "fell into sin" in theological language. So we have (a) the Boston bombing and (b) the Texas plant explosion as symbols of what can go wrong when the sun conjoins Mars. I might say, first, that the square or opposition between these two planets would be regarded as worse than the conjunction; but a conjunction is not really a "neutral" aspect as some believe; I feel it comes down usually on the side of the "hard aspects" (rather than the soft and helpful trine and sextile). Is it not evident, even superficially, that the sun (fire) and Mars (iron and fire) together in a fire sign, Aries, ruled by Mars, could result in incendiary acts by males (Mars)? As it certainly did, in a noticeable and notorious way.

Did it have to happen? No. Why did it happen? Because some "losers" (as one of the killers was described by his uncle), rather than develop and use their powers (sun and Mars) constructively, use them explosively, peevishly, nastily, arrogantly--and, of course, reap the result of their misdeeds. The sun conjoined to Mars in Aries would be, by all the rules of classical astrology, if understood in a "horary" or everyday way (as opposed to a natal chart), an indication of an explosion. And so it was indeed, two of them at least in our general consciousness.

Fortunately that did not touch all of us directly. Whatever is "explosive" in your own life has probably been restrained, suppressed, or repressed successfully. That is all to the good. Perhaps it has been a smoldering energy within you, as in a steam engine, building motives and activities which will lead you somewhere progressive. It could have done the same in the two Chechnyan brothers.

The long-term orb (ten degrees) of this aspect would be from March 3 through May 28, almost two months, because Mars moves just a little slower than the sun and when they get together they "hang." The short-term orb of two degrees would be from April 9 through April 25. The exactitude of it (one degree) would be April 13 through April 21. The Boston Marathon disaster was April 15; the Texas explosion April 18. Astrological correspondences can be quite amazing, which is why the stellar science has captured the interest of humanity for millennia.

As of Friday April 19, the sun entered Taurus, so although the conjunction with Mars remains, it is muted by the fact that the sun is no longer in the Mars-ruled sign. I would not rule out, however, explosive sun-Mars happenings, because . . .

The other "classical" aspect now going on which has been supremely important in my observation is Venus opposite Saturn. Whether the opposition, square, or conjunction, this is a phase of disappointment and bitterness, at least superficially. For those on a spiritual path, it can be much better, but it is sobering. It brings out the need to live and manifest all those qualities we say we are trying to live by means of our spiritual aspiration. Were you glorying in friendship? Now it is gone. In a love affair? What happened to it? Money? The stock market went down. (But I hasten to add that it is not statistically dependable to say the stock market always goes down when Venus is in hard aspect with Saturn. The Market and the motives of buyers and sellers are more complicated than that.) In other words, "disappointment" is the name of this aspect. Or, even worse, bitterness. Why did the two Chechnyan brothers "snap" and do something they must have known to be wrong? Not just because of the sun conjoined to Mars. Venus opposed to Saturn began, by a ten-degree orb, on April 14, the day before the bombing. One reason I grant a ten-degree orb to major aspects is that I have seen this happen over and over again. I experienced a horrible break-up with a friend on the first day of a Venus-Saturn opposition many years ago. It was an emotional explosion which temporarily ended a friendship. All the bitterness two individuals had held against each other burst out. Venus in her lower levels is passionate affection, a need for someone, a desire to possess someone. Saturn is limitation, in this case a recognition of the "impossible" limitations in the other person while that person recognizes your "impossible" limitations. In a successful marriage or friendship, this can be patient bearing with the other's weaknesses and blind spots. When one or both are incapable of this, there is a break or at least a temporary distancing.

I hope you are seeing how this applies to your own situation at present. It comes out not just in love but in "comfort," that is, things which usually make you comfortable somehow are not working and you feel despondent, dissatisfied with everything, "nothing is right, everything is wrong." So the two Chechnyan brothers must have felt. This aspect's orb by ten degrees is April 14 through April 28. We can handle it; we have handled it before. Mourning the deaths of those killed in these two disasters is one aspect of the aspect; there are many others, which you can detect for yourself in your life-situation. At best, this aspect makes men and women of us; it tests our ability to remain poised under disappointment, even bitter disappointment. We can do it.

I have taken the time for this forecast to write the above, which seemed supremely important. The moon is void-of-course (in Virgo) all day Monday. Of course this does not mean everything is futile, but it is usually better at such times to "cool it" when it comes to fresh or daring ventures, staying with the tried and true. This is not always the case in the intellectual realm; it can be a good time for research, but one should re-test the tentative results of the research later before making a firm decision. It can also be a good time to ponder life in a more general or philosophical way, as the above paragraphs might lead you to do.

Not all is gloom, of course. Since Venus, the sun and Mars have entered Taurus, Venus is the sole dispositor of the 7 anciently known planets, while the sun and Saturn, though opposed, are in good aspect with Neptune, Venus trines Pluto, and the Part of Fortune is in the 5th house. There can be entertainment and pleasure as escape. I will not bore you by saying "But not too much escape, please!" We find our own ways.
