}Message from Uranus for the Month of the Crab (June 21 through July 22, 2019){

As I write, Gay Pride events are happening around the country. Uranus in the chart for this month has heavy aspects, and he is generally considered the "gay" or LGBTQ planet. Whatever is eccentric, "queer" in any sense, or unusual and experimental is his domain. He upsets convention. Squares to him from Mars and Mercury bring out controversy---I had it with a Facebook friend who found me offensive and insensitive about gay rights, as I found him offensive and insensitive about the rights of other-than-gay individuals who feel forced into a box because of knee-jerk "gay" objections to things which are really harmless, and on and on. (I do not want to revive that dispute.) However, Uranus also has sextiles from the sun and Venus, so the Pride events in Seattle where I am were quite festive and friendly yesterday, and I hope today as well. Joe Biden visited Seattle to give a speech to gay supporters or possible-supporters and although the press, as usual, liked to emphasize something he said which might have been interpreted as offensive, he was applauded heavily at the end.

Signor Borelli's symbol for Uranus this month is "A well-favored cow grazing in a park in the shade of two trees." This fits what I saw yesterday in Cal Anderson Park where Pride festivities were going on. The "cows" were people decked out in colorful clothing, not afraid to display their bodies ("well-favored"). In general this month we may have such luxurious moments of "comfort and happiness dissociated from labor"; "success and contentment in easy attachments." 

But of course we have the difficult aspects mentioned in Sol's and Saturn's messages, and they are reflected in Charubel's symbol for Uranus's position: "A horrid sight! A naked man mutilated, the blood flowing down the body." He says this indicates one liable to torture. I don't like this any more than you, but report it faithfully for whatever it is worth. And I have done my homework: The moon was at this degree in the chart for the month of 9/11/2001, and of course not only the victims of the massacre but many others felt as if they were being tortured. I consider cruelty the worst sin by far, and every day I pray: "May cruelty disappear from the mind and heart of humanity and never happen again. May there be kindness everywhere." I direct the fulfillment of this prayer toward all prisoners all over the world and toward animals. I would be happy if you would join me in it. 

And so we do not have to submit to torment as a divine decree this month, but may take this as a warning to prevent it insofar as we can. The "torture" or torment can be purely mental, or a torment of being misunderstood, or feeling misunderstood, or disagreeing with someone you love, and so on. 

The Sabian symbol is "A woman of Samaria." She is featured in John 4: 4-42. Since she had had five husbands, we may assume that some of her marriages may have felt like torment, or if we talked with the husbands perhaps some would agree from the other side. She had to come to the well to draw water, a sort of minor torment, and told Jesus it would be wonderful to be relieved of that burden---to be more like the "well-favored cow browsing in the shade of trees." But she was intelligent and inquiring and felt that Jesus was someone she wanted to understand, and ended up telling the men of the town how wonderful he was. In a way her relation to Jesus was Uranian, one of mutual respect, each respecting what was unusual in the other. This is one of my favorite Bible stories. 

Of course Jesus was soon to suffer torture unto death, which brings in Charubel's disturbing symbol, and this colorful concourse at the well seems to lead to the awakening of a spiritual impetus in the woman and in the townspeople she invited to hear Jesus for themselves---thus Dr. Jones gives "Awakening" as keyword for the symbol. 

At a spiritual or a merely human level, we will find both pleasant times (the shady park) and tormenting ones leading us toward something greater than these dualities of pleasure and pain, namely, what Jesus represents, the spiritual nature of humanity (no matter how invisible). 

This gives us the internal freedom (Uranus) which conquers external bondage or restriction.

Our sun, source of warmth and life, represents in astrology the motion of the earth around it, in a sense, because its circuit through the zodiac is also (or "really" if you look at it that way) the circuit of the earth around it. It's all very mysterious; we live in a Mystery.

This method of using the exact midpoint of the sun's transit (or the earth's) through each mathematically defined sign for a chart representing the whole month is new, but seems to me inevitable. For example, I have noted over the years that the sun's opposition and square and conjunction with Saturn are the most difficult times, for most (though other factors such as the Dark Hermetic Epochs play a major part also). In November 1963, Scorpio's month, the sun was at the exact center of the sign when it was square to Saturn by less than two degrees. That was the month JFK was assassinated, though that occurred on the 22nd when the sun was at 29 Scorpio, the last degree. Still, the sun-Saturn square at the center of the sign was obviously still major at that point, denoting an event all who are old enough recall with sorrow.

Likewise, when Sol was at 15 Virgo (the center) in 2001, it was exactly square Saturn by less than one degree. Four days later came the attack on the World Trade Center. (And by the way, both these events remembered by all Americans happened during Dark Hermetic Epochs as well. One might say that the sun-Saturn months within any DHE are the most difficult, or usually so, and that would be about one out of every six months. This month is one of them.)

(There can be no degree-symbols for the sun in this method, because they would be the same every year, the 16th degree of the sign. So we dispense with them and look toward Sol's position and aspects.)

In our month of Cancer 2019 (June 21 through July 22) the sun is opposite Saturn by less than three degrees. There have not been major publicly celebrated tragedies at this point, and I hope there won't be. I would call it a serious time, however. The Dark Hermetic Epoch means, slow down; be deliberate and patient. 

CEO Carter, pioneer astrologer:  "The inharmonious aspects [between the sun and Saturn] are not always entirely evil, though they certainly have a bad name and are sometimes spoken of as if they denied the native almost everything desirable. The opposition seems not altogether bad  . . . It is not incompatible with considerable worldly success, if other aspects favor, though such success will be won only by sheer hard work and may be retained with difficulty." This is a clue to us to "keep on keeping on."

More from Mr. Carter: "The difficulty is always, at heart, one of expression. Either proper expression is denied or delayed until it is almost too late to serve its purpose, or else the native tries to 'force the issue' and blunders disastrously. Sometimes the issue is shirked and there is shyness or timidity, which may be hidden behind blatant boastfulness." (Sound like anyone you know?) Well then, what do we do: Force the issue, and blunder; or wait timidly until it's too late? Obviously there must be a middle way. I think if we calm the anxiety and the fear of being rejected or misunderstood, and tune in to another major aspect of Sol this month, his trine with Neptune, we will do well. That trine gives us sympathy, implicit kindness, an attempt to get in tune with others and the universe somehow. If we do that we will know how to express ourselves about difficult or somber sun-Saturn problems facing us and others. Not all will agree, with the sun quincunx Jupiter, but if they become resigned to that disagreement and press on, workable answers will be found, even if it feels like "muddling through." Never mind the muddle if you get through it! 

Isabel Hickey, another fine astrologer, tells us about the sun opposite Pluto---also going on this month because Saturn is with Pluto---"There is strong resentment against authority of any kind. . . . Ego flare-up or self-will can bring difficulties mentally, emotionally and physically. . . . Deviousness and dishonesty bring quick retribution. . . . Everything hidden will be brought to light."  Well, Robert Mueller is to testify for Congressional committees on July 17, and Donald Trump's enemies hope something new and actionable will be revealed. I myself doubt it and feel the Democrats are beating a dead horse at this point. The Dark or Slow epoch--and by the 17th Mercury will be retrograde, the center of that Epoch---is famous for investigations that go nowhere, for the circling of thought in endless divagations and rich details which prove poor the longer they are investigated. This is not always so, but I would advise that rather than putting your energy into other people's sins you just put your own away from you and do something which your soul finds really absorbing. This is a soulful time and the soul ought to lead.

\Message from Venus for the Month of the Crab (June 21 through July 22, 2019)/

In the monthly chart, Venus (the most popular planet, one might say) is in a quadri-nonagen aspect with Jupiter, similar to the trine. This could be gracefulness in demeanor, pleasure in the arts or literature, felicity of expression.

Venus's sextile with Uranus gives more of the same, plus a witty, humorous, fascinating quality. People feel they can express who they are. However, we should not forget the squares of Mercury and Mars with Uranus, discussed in the Messages of Mars and Mercury posted earlier this week, which show that anger can erupt. There could be a contest between anger (felt as righteous) and humor; serious offense or offendedness versus lighthearted satire. We need to cultivate our ability to laugh, perhaps. It is easy to make a joke about someone else and expect laughter, not so easy to appreciate a joke about oneself. 

There is a liking for music. There can be popularity, and adventures in love. There can be eccentricity, though one man's definition of that be not the same as another's. At best, we will be relatively comfortable with one another's peculiarities, or positively appreciate them. This might not extend to questions of principle, which come under the Leo-Taurus squares of Mars and Mercury to Uranus. "I like you but disagree radically" might be an attempted reconciliation of these two. 

There could be anticipation of gain through travel (the nonagen with Jupiter) or through writing or publication, though combined with that skepticism about the value of travel discussed in the Jupiter message. It's probable that travel would be more fluid, natural and satisfying next month (Leo, July 23 through August 22) or the month after that. 

Signor Borelli's symbol is disturbing and we should take it with a grain of salt. "A young tree or sapling bent about the middle and thence growing awry." Some no doubt might relate this to some of the sad events affecting immigrant children at or near the border. (That is too complex for easy comment.) For most of us it could be a sense of betrayal, or that we have leaned upon those who were unfaithful to us. We have perhaps misplaced our trust, or mistrusted when we should have distrusted. That is a dismal thought so we should replace it with something positive, such as a realization that people do their best by their lights and are not intentionally wanting to hurt us. Yet in a sense, we do choose our loyalties and maybe should do that more consciously. I feel that placing trust in someone tends to make them more trustworthy, in the long term, but if there is a glaring exception to that one needs to be alert. 

The Sabian symbol is equally dire, "An automobile wrecked by a train." This could have many applications. Some think that the "automobile" of their health insurance would be "wrecked" by the "train" of single-payer government health care. (I did not say that I agree with that, but maybe the notion of Medicare for all who want it is best, allowing some to retain private insurance.) The "automobile" of individual life could be "wrecked" by the "train" of immigration dependent on governmental permissions (a "train" going one knows not where). A self-driving car could be wrecked by the "train" of inadequate programming or unforeseen circumstances. An independent Uber driver could be "wrecked" by the train of government regulations. What "train" is threatening your independence? 

Dr. Jones says, interpreting the symbol, "The ultimate obligation of the individual is to himself, and not to the narrow and momentary direction of circumstances." You have to stop that car and back up before it connects with the train, not give up your life in order to get somewhere sooner! 

Charubel gives, "A person holding a scale up in his hand, with even beam." He says it shows "A just person, whose mind will spontaneously detect a falsehood, or an injustice, or any wrong." If we are that person, we will have nothing to fear from the twisting of betrayal or the dispersion of collision with the train. We will be alert, and feel when the "scales" are tipping dangerously one way or the other, and correct the imbalance.

"Hot weather in Germany has continued this week, though outdoor temperatures in Berlin dropped significantly overnight after peaking on Wednesday. "

It was not just Germany, of course. Thursday has less intense pressures than Wednesday for everyone. Next week the |karmic third| will be most intense on Tuesday but also effective on Wednesday. (For newcomers: Of course this is not the same every week but is based on the relations of the moon and Saturn, and gradually moves earlier so that by September it will be hitting the weekends.)

\Message from Jupiter for the Month of the Crab (June 21 through July 22, 2019)/

We enter a softer, less hard-edged world with Jupiter, the "greater benefic" planet (Venus the "lesser benefic" according to tradition, though I have some reservations about that distinction). His aspects in the monthly chart are not, however, specially sweet. His quincunx with the sun in Cancer suggests worries over or changes in travel plans, especially because he is retrograde and we are in a Dark Hermetic Epoch for the whole month. That does not mean travel is "bad" necessarily but can mean that it is subject to frequent delays. If one is traveling for pleasure or business this month, one ought to be patient with those changes and decide to be master of one's own mind and feelings whether or not one can master the plane, train, bus, or car one is using as vehicle. They may seem to have minds of their own. Whether the costs of travel are worth it is your decision but you may be uncertain about it one way or the other. 

The major aspect of Jupiter is a square with Neptune, both of them retrograde. This is mystical, dreamy, and introspective. At worst it could be daydreaming in a way which interferes with what one needs to do. Better, it could be sweet internal reflection upon the good things in one's life, past or present. Best of all it might be ecstatic contemplation upon G*d and one's relation with Him or Her, mixed with appreciation of all the people one has known and knows now. Jupiter in his own sign, and Neptune in his, make this square a special opportunity for religio-mystical-spiritual understanding, contemplation, and realization. Contradictions are seen, acknowledged, and lifted to the level of paradox beyond crippling duality, into a  realm where contraries embrace rather than fight, better each other rather than batter each other.

Signor Borelli's symbol for Jupiter this month is "A man afloat upon a raft," keyword: Abandonment. Let's not get spooked by that. It has something to do with what was said in paragraph 1 about travel. The symbol "denotes one of isolated and lonely mind, given to projects of alien kind, daring enterprises, and unique adventures." That would fit with what we said about Mars and Mercury square Uranus in the previous two Messages. (It would appear that Donald Trump is trying to make the leaders of Iran feel like "men afloat upon a raft" by his sanctions against them, and by wanting the international community to "abandon" that nation or its leadership.) The "unique adventures" may be worth something, yet could lead to estrangement and trouble. You may apply that to yourself however it fits. You may feel your position is unstable, or founded upon the waters. 

There could, however, be pleasure in this if the worst straits are avoided: "A little boy in a state of nudity blowing bubbles" (Charubel). He is innocent, and retains his youth throughout life, but does little good or harm, bent on personal amusement. He "may be deemed worthless" says Charubel; but I would be more charitable. Which is more worthless, this nude boy blowing bubbles or two grown men in business suits aiming missiles at each other's nations? We sometimes make a Dark or Slow Epoch a Playful Epoch and that is not all bad. 

However, we may tire of both the bubble-blowing and the perilous adventure, and turn to something deeper such as outlined in paragraph 2. 

"An Easter sunrise service" is the Sabian symbol. Individual fulfillment is linked with humanity as a whole, whether in formal rituals or otherwise, and individual rebirth is contingent on "getting right with G*d and humanity" somehow or other. This is called atonement or at-one-ment. This cures the feeling of abandonment or desertion and makes the bubble-blowing a worshipful praise of the One and His or Her representatives in the human "race" racing we know not where unless we take charge from a deep internal spiritual platform not founded on the waters. Rebirth can be spontaneous, but more likely we have earned it through sincere aspiration and patient quest.

We discussed the squares of Mars and Mercury with Uranus yesterday. That information is still important because Mercury in the monthly chart is exactly with Mars, within two degrees. The only aspects of Mercury are its conjunction with Mars and square with Uranus. This is not easy but is challenging. It brims over with energy but that energy needs to be corralled, channeled, directed carefully if it is not to go astray and cause friction. It is impatient and wants to prove itself---"I am the best!"  Especially because these two planets are in Leo. 

Leo is a fire sign, and squares to Uranus can be incendiary, so we have the news that "Hell is coming" to Europe from Spain to far northern regions, a heat wave said to be the worst in a decade, with temperatures of 104 Fahrenheit. https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/25/world/europe-weather-heat-wave-preparation-grm-intl/index.html   Even Mars conjoined to Mercury, in and of itself, can be incendiary, especially when in a fire sign, but they are both square Uranus the incendiary planet! Now these charts are for the whole planet so of course they show what could happen anywhere. At present this heat wave is affecting Europe (not Seattle where I live; I turned up the thermostat this morning). But it could affect other areas before the end of this Cancer month. I certainly hope it will not be forest fires in the Western U. S. again, as last year.

In addition, we are in a Dark or Slow or Confusing Hermetic Epoch and weather tends to be more difficult at those times. Also, we have cyberwarfare, maybe everywhere (what a strange human race). It is known to be going on in a big way between Iran and the U. S.  U. S. officials will say, "Well, Iran is doing it so we have to also." Iran will say, "Well, the U. S. is doing it so we have to also." You go figure. Is this what destroyed Atlantis? It was said to be evil magic. Cyberrwarfare is evil magic. It is signified this month by Mercury conjunct Mars (mental warfare) and both square Uranus (Uranus rules technology to a big degree), so we may see a greater public awareness of it. Hackers and cyber criminals, whether private or governmental, are having a "field day" whatever that means to them. What an evil, ugly, homicidal-suicidal obsession.

The symbol for Mercury in the Cancer chart (until July 23) is "A forge beneath the surface of the earth. Men are working in an almost nude state, owing to the heat. It is something like the engine room of a large steamer." Also, it could signify the tankers or other vehicles in the Persian Gulf, etc. Now I don't want to be totally negative about this, but the planets are pointing out problems to be solved. Could we just "cool it"? 

Charubel says in reference to the symbol, "Someone may have to leave his native land under very gloomy circumstances." He advises that we "live quietly" and "get into some settled and uniform mode of living." Good advice in the month of Cancer, when the sun is trine Neptune in Pisces---that nice trine in water signs could be the "settled mode of living" which grants peace, calm and avoidance of excessive turmoil. (But not all of it, most likely.)

Signor Borelli's symbol is "A snake coiled round a tree, its head raised ready to strike." This is not all bad; it denotes "scientific powers and learning in the subtle arts"; "elaborate researches with patience and intelligence." Cyber-warfare again? We had better keep our eyes open to information about that this month. Also: "A certain degree of cupidity and cunning"; "keen sense of rivalry and competition" and "a love of personal advantage." If you are using some such tendencies in a way to bring benefits to yourself, and care also about others, maybe this is a good symbol for you. But you might also be "jealous and envious."

The Sabian symbol is "Rock formations at the edge of a precipice." Here is what we need: The rocks prevent us from falling over the edge. What are the "rock formations" or protective influences which are helping you avoid disaster? You need to be aware of them, heed them, and stop when you are too close to "the edge." 

Verbum sapienti sat est. That old snake is said to be "sapient" or wise. He would not go over the edge. Let's not.

The Democratic debaters tonight will probably have a harder time of it than the Thursday debaters (which include the major candidates). Elizabeth Warren, making a strong and intelligent bid, speaks tonight while the moon is square Mars in her own sign (Cancer). Fireworks? Probably there will be more viewers Thursday and they will enjoy the presentation more than the Wednesday viewers, but I will be watching.

^Message from Mars for the Month of the Crab, June 21 through July 22^

Mars in the monthly chart is conjoined to Mercury and both square Uranus. Those are its only aspects. (This is the chart for the midpoint of the month, which I believe to be the best way of doing it based on years of research.) It is in Leo (though still in Cancer at this moment of writing, until July 1). This is an "antsy" aspect--impatient, in a hurry, demanding, and sometimes selfish to the point of cruelty. We need to avoid that, of course. Leo at its worst is arrogant (Mussolini for example) and Mars square Uranus is even violent at its worst. You may sense that people around you are impatient and demanding, or if introspective may see that in yourself.

The Sabian symbol is "A man formally dressed and a deer with its horns folded." It indicates morale based on self-respect plus the ability to gain esteem. No doubt this is what the 20 Democratic presidential candidates want for themselves during the two debate nights this week. You may find that when you are up against things your spine straightens. You get your back up and sense implicit strength and self-respect, enabling you to "fight" or keep on keeping on, bringing out your unique capacities (Uranus) no matter what obstacles there seem to be. 

Charubel gives "A carrier's wagon, with tarpaulin overhead." This is a nineteenth-century image, colorful. It signifies someone engaged in business or commerce, selling or buying, and on the move. "The grass is not allowed to grow beneath his feet." He is always engaged in what is useful, and takes in at a glance what is advantageous or not advantageous. We may be able to do that successfully. 

Mars square Uranus problems are: A refusal to be diplomatic or maneuver or negotiate. We want our own way at all costs. Energy is fitful, maybe ill-directed. We could be fretful or erratic, blunt, abrupt, or irritable. There could be attacks on our morals or honor. We might take too many risks, or overwork. Accidents are possible. 

We know our own minds well, and so have energy, vigor, and decisiveness. If we avoid disasters caused by traits in the preceding paragraph, we can succeed through strength and courage. (Thanks to CEO Carter for some of this insight.)

Signor Borelli's symbol is "A cat upon the watch for prey." This accords with the individualism and selfishness of the Mars-Uranus square. But Sepharial (interpreting the symbol) says it gives some of the very things that square does not give, namely, a prudent, patient mind which sustains fatigue in accomplishing its desires. The cat has to be careful lest it jump toward the prey at the wrong moment and so jinx itself. 

The "prey" might be not only money or material gain but erotic satisfaction or a pleasing connection with someone, and the cat might be someone else or yourself, you the prey or the cat. The Sabian symbol shows that you and the other both feel you have irresistible charisma or mana or morale and so who knows what could happen? Still, that square it intense, so it is wise to be careful.

Message from Luna for the Month of the Crab (June 21 through July 22)

The monthly charts I have found most convincing are based on the midpoint of each zodiacal sign. The chart is set up for the exact center of the month. Therefore the aspects are likely to be prevalent throughout the month, though less exact very early and very late in the month. I believe now that these charts are more solid and reliable than charts for fortnights, which I previously favored. One might wonder "why" this works, and the only answer is that there is an Intelligence behind our Solar System which is the same Intelligence behind human life on our planet. Serious astrology (of which there is very little) is an attempt to put our human minds in touch with that Intelligence.

Why would the symbols for the exact positions of the planets at that midpoint be valid throughout the month? The only answer is that I have seen them to be so by studying dozens of charts. So I work with what I see, and hope that I will see more. I include you in this experiment because you have shown your interest in it.

Luna, our moon, is opposed to Neptune and squared to Jupiter (in the monthly chart). This suggests religious difficulties, or spiritual wonderings, or a realization that philosophy is complicated, G*d is complex, and answers are tentative. It can be disagreement over religious, spiritual and philosophic topics. 

Charubel's symbol for Luna this month is "An angle of 45 degrees." That is called an octile, or semi-square, in astrology. It is not considered "good" although stimulating in some necessary way. Charubel says the symbol "Denotes a person of good abilities, scientifically inclined. Ever seeking public favor by pandering to the popular taste and supporting what are the views of the moment. He is nevertheless one who will suffer from the public." Hmm, Joe Biden? The other Democratic candidates? They are going to have their first "debate" soon, which will really just be a way for them to put themselves before the public since ten speakers in an hour and a half really does not allow any "debate." Yes, they will be "pandering to the popular taste and supporting the views of the moment." What else do politicians do? (Unless they are good, serious, principled ones.) Now think of yourself and a friend: "This person thinks but slightingly of his best friends, nor will he confide in them." That rings a bell for me. I feel that others have been doing that to me, and that I have been doing it to some of them. This symbol is one of "ordinary hypocrisy," it seems, showing how we think less of our friends than we pretend to, how we pretend also to agree with current opinions we haven't even thought about, and so on. It is good that Charubel is trying to awaken us to this. 

The Sabian symbol is "An ouija board." Well, it appears we are trying to break through our "slighting" or inaccurate opinions of politics, religion, and friends through some means of divination, or an approach to invisible guidance. Maybe the fact that we are likely to "suffer from the public" has pushed us to try to find a remedy for that. Maybe the spirits! Why not? Well, Biblically we are to ask for help from G*d, first and foremost, but what if G*d suggests we use some lesser entities also for help? It seems to me that He might do that. Anyway, Dr. Jones warns against "bondage to superstition or a surrender to the unknown" quite wisely. "Test the spirits" says the New Testament. Not many will be using a literal ouija board, but the symbol suggests that insights derived from peculiar, out-of-the-way, unconventional sources could be a big help. We see how Donald Trump uses his "instincts" to make decisions, after listening to advisers and often dismissing them. His acumen is often quite remarkable. The advisers may have helped to guide his decision, like a ouija board, but the decision remains his own, and his internal "ouija" gives the final answer. This worked successfully last week in preventing a military clash with Iran, at least for now. 

Signor Borelli's symbol is rather pleasing: "An old white-headed man surrounded by happy children. A long and happy life; an old age invested with the comforts of homely affection." Joe Biden? "It endows the native with a kind, benevolent and fatherly interest in his fellows, especially those of tender years. He will be much beloved, and will end his days in prosperity and peace. It is a degree of Guardianship." It seems that we are rising above our tendency to think little of others, and in turn be shunned by them, toward a more mature sense that we are guardians of one another. We no longer "suffer from the public" because the public senses we are with it. And, rather than depending on totally exterior or artificial means for understanding others and ourselves, and where we are headed, such as the ouija board, we depend on the internal "ouija" informed by a lifetime of experience to sense what is best, and younger people rally to us because they in turn feel that we offer secure good sense which guides and guards.

~Message from Saturn~

The monthly method I have been reviewing and revising for years is getting more clear and focused. And so I want to try to focus on it for a while in these reports, and here is a beginning of interpretation for the current Cancer or Crab month, June 21 through July 22.

Saturn's position is what we'll consider first. I am using its aspects but also its degree-symbols in the three systems which have proved themselves over the decades. I have found these to be wonderfully accurate and illumining in researching past events, such as 9/11/2001, other events everyone remembers historically, and personal events in my own and others' lives.  

It's a tough month, with Saturn opposite the sun. Its sextile with Neptune softens things a bit, showing that if we adopt a spiritual attitude (Neptune) we will soften the impact of hard reality (Saturn) on our lives. 

I have found the hard aspects of the sun with Saturn (the square, opposition and conjunction) to correlate with hard emotions--feelings of rejection, of disappointment in others and oneself. Often one doesn't know if someone else or oneself is to blame. Probably both! People are seeing that they do not measure up to ideals. If Saturn, in the guise of events, people, and self-criticism, did not point that out, he would not be doing his duty. It's a thankless task, but we need those warnings and challenges.

Neptune says, "But there is grace! There can be forgiveness, if it is sought and given with full consciousness of one's need for humility in the face of the difficulties of human life. Saturn says that life is a proving ground, but I say that it is also a chance for God to prove that he (she) is a God of love and kindness. 'Repentance,' turning around, is enough to gain that grace---the serious attempt to live more wisely."  Psalm 62:  "Trust always in God, my people, pour out your hearts before him; God is our shelter."

Charubel's symbol for Saturn in the chart I have found to be accurate for each zodiacal month (in this case the Cancer month of June 21-July 22) is "racy": "A racecourse, the racers at full speed." It suggests a gambler, bookmaker or betting man who devotes time and money to such speculations. Of course not many of us are doing that literally, but symbolically you might be doing something speculative, designed to bring you big gains for small efforts. Is that good or not? I leave that to your judgment. 

Signor Borelli's symbol for Saturn's degree is "Two men in fierce strife." Obviously this fits with Charubel's symbol because gamblers are "fighting" each other; when one wins, the other loses. Yet gamblers in general are kindly, just trying to win a game, not "fierce" in any way; smiling gamely when they lose, ready to try again. The problem could be if we really do get "fierce" in our strife or our attempts to "win" the game of life. It's a matter of taking it too seriously and then actively wanting to conquer, dominate or injure someone else. The symbol is warning against that. It seems, for example, that Iran's leaders and Donald Trump are in such a conflict during this month. Let's hope and pray that it ends without loss of life or serious injury on either side.

In terms of the "racecourse," Iran seems to be racing to develop nuclear weapons. Some think they will get there sooner, others later; the "gamblers" in international relations take differing sides. Does one "bet" on Iran getting the weapons soon, or on them not getting them at all, or on some international agreement or supervision taking care of the issue?

That brings us to the Sabian symbol for Saturn's degree: "The Union Jack" with its keyword Supervision. No, I don't think the United Kingdom is going to supervise Iran's nuclear program, but the symbol hints that "a greater community of interest is exalted." Dr. Jones says that at its worse this symbol could show "smug or strong-armed paternalism"---and Iran thinks Donald Trump is trying to be that while many others think Iran's leaders are trying to be that "strong-armed paternalism."  "Firece strife." "A racetrack." Who will come in first? Who will supervise the racers? It seems that some such supervision is necessary to prevent war or endless "sanctions" and issues and contentions and sufferings. What "Union Jack" will bring union?

On the personal level, what do these three symbols mean to you? You want to win! Who doesn't? Whether you gamble or not, or play games with no stake except personal vanity, or play no game except the game of life where you are trying to gain enough for your personal needs and enough to please you and those you love, you have a choice as to whether you regard it as "just a game" or regard it as "fierce strife." The former is probably preferable. If it were to divagate into "fierce strife" or harsh competition, you might hope for some kind of official Supervision, such as laws of the nation, state laws, or community laws, to prevent someone from taking unfair advantage in the "strife" or competition. Maybe you are at a place, this month, where you see the value of some helpful supervision of issues of fairness you are involved in. Or maybe you just contemplate others' issues of fairness and try to aid them in some way or at least give moral support.

It is good to have happy associations with the Crab (Cancer in Latin) because its natives (those born June 21-July 22 or so) are generally such kindly, pleasant companions. Any sign can go wrong, but if that happens we can still look to the better side and hope to bring it out by sympathizing with and encouraging it.

This year the Month of the Crab extends from Friday June 21 through July 22. I am studying the monthly charts with a fresh awareness of what they can mean based on serious, careful, long-term research over the years. I am not expecting to complete an analysis of the current month in this report but am beginning it. More to come in following weeks.

The big challenge this month is the sun's opposition with Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn. Welcome to reality. It's not that we can never rest, but that we do have our work carved out for us, and as we face it and accomplish it we feel better. Cancer and Capricorn are two of the most persistent signs of the zodiac. They bridge from the past to the future very consciously and without giving up. The past is important to them not because they sink back into it but because it provides a basis and fulcrum for everything desirable in the present and future. We can do this linking function, this continuity project, this month especially well because Mercury is slowing down and goes retrograde July 7 through 31. At its best this promotes wise looking into our past and feeling it in the present as helpful rather than restrictive. It suggests and supports gradual development of fresh potentials rather than scotching them. 

Another major aspect this month is Mercury's square with Uranus, and also Mars's square with the same planet for M and M are together. This is an "antsy" aspect, not content with things as they are but striving for something new or experimental. To attain that one has to be one's own unique self, Uranus, and that is a contrast with the traditionalism of Cancer-Capricorn. So we may find ourselves wanting to do something original, which others don't grasp (the squares with Uranus) yet within a traditional context of reliable teachings or cultural normalities we believe in which support us even in our experimental adventures. I think you will be able to sense what that means for you.

Venus's aspects are good, though not outstanding, so there is plenty of social finesse, with smooth interaction available most of the time provided we don't get over-agitated by the Mars-square-Uranus impatience. Venus sextile Uranus shows that we are capable of appreciating the other person's uniqueness rather than feeling upset by it. This is a key to friendly relations. Then we feel better about one another even when pursuing independent projects which may not be fully appreciated by many. 

The sun's trine with Neptune in Pisces, in water signs, is a pleasant suggestion of happy days at the beach or on the water. If this went too far or became irresponsible escapism then the hard aspects of Neptune would bring unhappy results. 

There is a tension between "I want to get this done now" and "I see that this will take another month at least." We can work from both viewpoints at once and keep moderating one by the other. 

If you have a vacation planned for this month, fine, it can work out in accord with the better aspects just pointed out. I might say, however, that if I were planning my summer freely I would choose either Leo (July 23 through August 22) or Virgo (August 23 through September 22) for a more extended and fulfilling vacation period. I'll explain why later, but both charts are filled with good aspects and might be excellent for exploring things and experiencing fresh life with free time at one's disposal. The Leo period could be more romantic, the Virgo month more business-oriented but nevertheless fulfilling at the personal or even romantic level.

}Freshly Pleasing Locale or Allegiance{

People may harangue one another over social injustice or other ills of society, indignantly. If this hits home we can heed it; if not, tolerate it. We may feel burdened with labors which apparently go nowhere, like breaking rocks with a hammer.

Being aware of cause-and-effect, and how to use it, requires a sense of timing.

We want variety in our environment, like "Pelicans moving their habitat." This could be meaningless dalliance, with the moon void-of-course, or a helpful frontier giving fresh vision and orientation. Who is really linked with whom? It is hard to tell. "A woman and two men on a bit of sunlit land facing south" suggests a need for workable allegiance or alliance at the inception of anything. 

We can allow ourselves some languorous enjoyments, "A well-fruited vine hanging upon an old wall beneath the sunshine of a summer day." We may find ourselves pondering, What is the meaning of home?

}Goodbye, Big Bad Wolf{

Signor Borelli says that we may be lke "a woman holding a bundle of faggots, her hair loose and disordered by the wind. She wanders in search of something." (Sounds like some Democratic politicians?) "One disposed to undertake more things than he is able to complete" is the warning. 

There are even more serious warnings from Charubel:  "An execution." I am a firm opponent of capital punishment because it has gone wrong so often, in addition to being repugnant in itself, and Nicholas Kristof's piece about it in the NYT last week is extremely important. For most of us, the "execution" might be the "moral execution" of someone through intense criticism, or of ourselves by someone else. We see one another's faults intensely.

A "meeting of a literary society" does in fact seem what our politicians are engaging in, rather than serious attempts to solve core problems. Criticism is rampant, but not self-criticism. Self-appreciation ought to expand to other-appreciation, which alone makes possible valid other-criticism.

"Pelicans moving their habitat" obviously has to do with all the immigration disputes around the world. Is choosing a frontier existence worth the trouble, or would it be better to face what one has not yet faced successfully at home?

Someone crafty, designing and seductive is like "A wolf following a sheep along a secluded pathway."

We need the common-sense clarification which "Two Dutch children talking" could bring into the situation. Some things just do not make sense. Tackling too much results in self-tackle. It is better to conform to common elements of the surrounding background, and normal skills, at least for now. Then the "two chidren" can calm down, avoid pointless diversion and the crafty wolf, and maybe have a good time together late in the day when Luna begins to trine Venus and sextile Jupiter.

\Letting Go the Hurtful; Holding to the Coalescent/  

The new proposed cryptocurrency Libra is being launched, or plans for it at any rate, on Tuesday June 18 which is a Queen of Clubs day, and as explained yesterday she is in the center of the Divine Spread. But in the Mundane Spread the 10 of Diamonds takes her place, which is the top financial card in the deck. So Facebook and the other big corporations working with it on Libra are tapping into both the Queen and the Ten of Diamonds to establish what would be an independent financial system separate from government banks (though no doubt working with them in some way). They want to be the Queen Bee of currencies, of spending and selling. This is obviously connected with Mark Zuckerberg's horoscope since he is not only Taurus but has Venus in that sign as well, trine to Jupiter in Capricorn, both earth signs, and the word "pecuniary" comes from the Latin "pecos" meaning cattle, so Taurus the Bull is THE financial sign---in addition to Scorpio, its opposite sign, ruling "other people's money" as the natural 8th house, and Zuckerberg has four planets in that sign, including the moon. He is all about money. (I hasten to add that both signs have deeper meanings and tendencies which he no doubt demonstrates in his life to a happy degree.) His birthdate May 14 is the Five of Diamonds, which is the Coins suit in the Tarot. The NYT posted a humorous drawing of a Libra "coin" with his cameo on it and "In Zuck we Trust." Things are getting interesting.

Wednesday:  Some are wily and acquisitive, plundering or attempting to plunder. We may "have their number" or not but can trust ultimate laws of justice: "After all there is a God that judges on earth." --Psalm 58  

Today is a Jack of Clubs day and someone youthful may be in your thoughts. There could be cruelty, "A man flogging a boy," but not if we are self-aware and circumspect. Cruelty can be mental rather than physical. It is more hurtful to the cruel one than to his supposed victim.

Widened interests get us to see things more completely, "A meeting of a literary society." Criticism should be the handmaid of appreciation.

The "beleaguered city" mentioned yesterday could be Hong Kong, where some may feel they are the "Serpent surrounded by a circle of fire." All need to escape the feeling that they are captive, yet all are captives of their own tendencies and necessary positions in life. This is ultimately strengthening, not weakening. Internal escape into true perspective precedes external escape from too much stress.

Doubt accompanies change. Today is the final day of a Bright Hermetic Epoch; a Dark, Slow or Confusing one begins tomorrow, lasting through August 14. And the moon is void-of-course most of the day (see below). We need to hold on to what has proved itself rather than give it up for something untrustworthy. 

Invisible sympathies and co-operations happen organically and maybe telepathically. When people try to plunder one another they get weaker. When they sense what holds them together they are stronger.

\Growth Through Constraints/

We need to calm down. There is likely to be subtle, underground or subconscious anxiety. The world can seem a disturbing or frightening place.

The King and Queen of Clubs days, yesterday and today this month (they happen once a month), are often defining. Yesterday, for example, a King, or would-be king, Mohamed Morsi of Egypt, fainted in the courtroom where he was being tried and soon after died in the hospital. 9/11/2001 was a King of Clubs day. Something fateful can happen. It can be good as well as seemingly bad. The Queen is gentler, though not less powerful, so today we may consolidate some of our plans and thoughts in a positive way.  She is in the exact center of the "spread," something like the Queen Bee. We are centering our lives. It may be sobering because of the |karmic third| of the week, but no less positive. It might be specially important because the Dark Hermetic Epoch of uncertainties begins Thursday.

What is old, even ancient, and reliable, is best. "A baronial mansion with spacious park abounding with gigantic trees" might mean something. Close your eyes and dream of it; it might take you back to a scene in your childhood. "A woman awaiting a sailboat" has a similar flavor of being poised and ready to accept events as they unfold rather than rushing toward anything. The Tarot Calendar gives 18, 6 and 2, The Moon, The Lovers, and The High Priestess. It's rather dreamy. But the Priestess can put needed order in things and we can follow her lead. What enters as dream-life could be organized into something useful.

Signor Borelli's symbol for Jupiter is a potent one: "A serpent surrounded by a circle of fire.  One whose mind is subtle and tortuous, resentful and passionate. He will be continually involved in difficulties and surrounded by dangers. He may find himself in a beleaguered city, or a cruel distraint from which he will escape only with some hurt to his person or fortunes. A fiery ordeal . . . his mind will be chafed and tortured by stress and limitations or captivity."  This sounds like what is happening now with Iran: "Iran has been surprised by the effectiveness of new American economic sanctions, which are isolating the country and imposing severe hardship on its people. European powers, China and Russia have paid lip service to protecting the nuclear deal but have been reluctant to stand in the way of American pressure.

President Trump expects that Iran will be forced to the negotiating table; others on his team want to keep squeezing Iran until the Islamic Republic implodes. Iranians interpreted the quickness of the Trump administration to lay blame on them for the Gulf of Oman attacks as proof that Washington wants war to dislodge the Islamic Republic. Iran is keen is to show that bullying tactics will not work. Tehran has met maximum pressure with maximum resistance, first refusing to leave the nuclear deal and then threatening to restart its nuclear program.  --Vali R. Nasr in the New York Times.

Yes, "A serpent erect within a circle of fire." Our 19th-century clairvoyant comes through again. Yet all is not threatening; there is "A large and well-cultivated tract of land." I leave this to your discovery. And though we may feel that some of our hopes have been broken or withered, we rise up like "Topsy saucily asserting herself" and say "No, that is enough, no one is going to ruin things for me." We meet every compulsion on us as an opportunity for growth, and take advantage of it somehow.
