*Are We Getting It?*
Monday
and early Tuesday will be the more difficult part of this period, while
Sunday has a better proportion of helpful influences.
A relationship, or relationships, could be emphasized Sunday, while
the rest of the period is a challenge to regain bearings in your
over-all situation.
"I am a man under authority, with servants
set under me," said the Roman centurion to Jesus when, in faith, he
asked for help (Luke 7). That is how you might feel now. Who is over
you, and who is under you? In today's culture this is not usually
clear-cut. Neither in marriage nor in work is it so simple to say who is
in control and who is a servant. Under the influence of centuries of
Christianity, powerful elites in both business and government claim to
be public servants. How are you entangled in the master-servant
relationship? Who would you say is your master? And who serves you? This
could be more than a philosophic question; it could lead to insights of
a practical nature.
When people are confused, they look to someone else to take charge.
In the past, the stereotype of this has been a woman weakly letting some
Svengali manipulate her, and enjoying it. Then, of course, she might
manipulate him in turn through her seductive weakness. So much fun for
novelists and soap-opera writers! How might this be going on in your
life? Remember that the sex roles can be reversed here, and also that
this can go on with two of the same sex.
Such entanglements can be interesting, intriguing, and addictive. It
is not always clear who is deceiving whom, or if there might be mutual
deception as if both were writing their own soap opera in collaboration.
Through all this a serious search is going on, which could rightly be
called a spiritual quest. We are all looking for "something." We put it
that way because we suspect it is indefinable and ineffable. So it is.
The spiritual Masters adumbrate it each in his own way. To get tangled
up with a spiritual Master is the best entanglement.
This is a powerful time for those who are gaining self-control. It
could be partly a time of impotence, when one lets such control slip.
That could be because one creates vexations for oneself through
troubling oneself about too many things, some of which lead exactly
nowhere except away from what is useful in one's life at present.
Attending to health needs, as through discipline of diet and
exercise, is not one of those useless things, however. Many will be
perfecting their approach to such physical self-training under the
influence of Mercury-and-sun in Virgo sextile Mars in Scorpio. (It is
virtually a truism that most of us eat too much and don't get enough
exercise.)
Hunch: When you see someone asking for a cigarette, or a light, you
will get a clue to something. When you burn something on the stove, you
will get a clue to something.
Those who are eccentric or peculiar
come into your purview. Yes, they are looking for "something." Good
aspects with Neptune suggest they will get at least glimmers of it. Can
one eat that "something"? Yes, by not eating as much material food, say
those who recommend fasting.
Those to whom one is attracted, or whom one loves, can be partial
mysteries. We do not need to understand one another completely to love
one another. The edge of non-understanding could be part of the
attraction.
There is so much you want to be involved in, and you can do it. At worst
it could be escapism and then lead you astray (paragraph 7), but at
best it is the thrill of getting closer to the kaleidoscopic source of
human motivation through diving into the human psyche, one's own and
others'. How you swim there is not exactly how anyone else does it.
Those who serve are not weak, but strong. You serve. "Gotta serve
somebody" sang Bob Dylan. You also are served, and have you not
sometimes marveled at the conscientiousness of someone who served you?
This is part of the splendor of human life, superior to the splendor of
Lady Gaga (who, I admit, does serve as an entertainer anyway). Being
docile in service, not caring about the endurance required, results
eventually in paradoxical mastery, as Hegel explained at brilliant
length in his Phenomenology.
(Perhaps dogs and horses, whose nature is to serve, are being prepared for lives as masterful humans.)
We are in "this," we are working or swimming through it, and we are getting "there."
