*Questioning, Facing, Daring*

Questions are brewing about where to go and what to do with a friend, and perhaps others at a distance. The eternal optimist in me has high hopes for these two days; at least lunar positions are better than on Tuesday and Wednesday. The planets do not rule us, any more than red and green stop-and-go lights. However, it appears that part of the rule of this solar system is that we work with, not against, planetary movements in order to be successful or happy. One with no knowledge of astrology can learn to do this subconsciously. We say "He has a sense of timing." Astrology can help the rest of us, and perhaps him also.

I like to "think out loud" or in print in order to get to something that will help. For those of you interested in astrology it might help you think along similar lines or explore in your own way. So: I am impressed by the predominance of septile-based aspects in the past couple of weeks. There are five septile aspects now (including bi- and tri-septiles) and this suggests "immovable fate" to some degree. This means, not that the cosmos is against you but that your past living, thinking, feeling and acting has set up certain things for you which you can't change until you experience the result or karma you have set in motion. This is not all bad by any means. If it seems that things are slow or hard or that you are stuck, you need to keep on with whatever is ameliorating those conditions, however slowly.

Someone you know, or perhaps an author you study, has keen discernment, to the point that he frightens you by pointing out things you didn't want to see, that is, dangers you might succumb to unless you realize what he is trying to show you. There is a harsh but illumining insistence on the truth and nothing but the truth.

A deep side of you is a thinker. You may wonder if you are really in command of your thoughts. The previously mentioned individual or teacher may be showing you that rather the truth ought to be in command of them. There is some danger that by delving into contrary or contradictory teachings or evidence you could confuse yourself and slip into darkness. "The truth" as written here is an abstraction, but would be very concrete to you if you found it pertinently in each issue you are concerned about.

The seeming impotence mentioned in paragraph 2 is not hopeless, if you just pick up what you spill or are unable to contain or control, and carry on.

The square of Venus and Mars (technically September 7 through October 17 but close to exact right now) is tough on "relationships" in the broadest sense, including but not limited to the romantic ones. When people disagree, they want to control each other, but cannot, and so what then? The flaps in the Muslim world over the blasphemous depictions of their Prophet by certain misguided (and dangerous) individuals in the West (in America and now France) are an example. The deliberate instigation of a fight by those Western individuals is inexcusable; they never gave a thought to the lives they were endangering. Nor did they realize that you do not make fun of anyone's religion; that is an ethical imperative as well as a matter of common sense. You can disagree with the religion and explain why you disagree, calmly and rationally. That would be respected. You cannot make fun of it. Never. If that is one thing the Muslim world is teaching us, perhaps it is a lesson we needed to learn.

On the personal level, there may be "duels" between yourself and someone you think highly of. A duel can be a friendly contest, or it can be fatal to a friendship. Pushing the situation in the former direction is imperative.

At a less forbidding level, Venus and Jupiter are exactly sextile. This is always a good aspect and can smooth out much of the foregoing if we tune in to it sufficiently. With Venus in Leo, there is a daring and a willingness to accept responsible, appropriate pleasures. Why would anyone reject pleasures? For reasons given above, namely, that there are so many serious factors afoot one feels pleasure would be a mistake. I will only say that some pleasures now are entirely appropriate and one can "go for them" providing there is no definitely unmistakable warning.

People need to be together sometimes just to experience one another's personalities and commune with one another at some subliminal psychic level usually impossible when one is sitting in a room alone. So there could be an urge to be on the move, probably locally but for some it could be longer travel. The difficulties already outlined need not be daunting if one meets everything with calm courage and a desire to experience the sublime grandeur of oneself and the human race.

"The soul attracted leaned to the Abyss:
It longed for the adventure of Ignorance
And the marvel and surprise of the Unknown . . .
The savour of pity and the gamble of love
And passion and the ambiguous face of Fate." --Sri Aurobindo, Savitri
