~Safely into Port and the Beauteous Woods~

A happy and prosperous marriage or partnership could be under threat of sorrow, even ruin, if there is too much relaxation so that its benefits are taken for granted when they need to be built up and protected. This can be done through a “flow of inspiration.” It comes out as a capacity for meeting unusual developments with a maturity which welcomes tests, passing them with ingenuity.
If one feels that one is “on a raft floating in the open sea” this could be because of misanthropic isolation, which abandoned one to the winds with “a wandering and uncertain mind.” Yet one can still “spread one’s sails in hope of a favoring wind which shall carry one safely into port.” What helps is “an active, sharp intellect and power of perception” which makes one “an exact observer of men and things” whether with two eyes or one. A practical mind detects a route to safety.
“A veiled figure in black sands behind a king sitting upon a throne.” One can see this going on in politics, according to one’s interests and predilections. It seems that ambition has led some into dangerous positions so that a fall is likely, but only a moral or ethical fall would really be disastrous. More happily, one might enjoy “a wood, in which wild undergrowth abounds, and many plants of different kinds and colors” such as was celebrated perhaps in Johann Strauss’s waltz “Tales from the Vienna Woods.” This is not book-learning but the “natural wisdom” of rusticity and country beauty. Some might be “rugged and uncultivated, but rich of heart, and prodigal of energies and wealth.”
