*Insight as Foundation of Freedom*

People with strong ideas are influencing you. You feel that you are friends with those who think solidly and understand a few things. Otherwise they would bore you. You want to administer your life and career in swift, free, strong intellectual style. You separate ideas and information which have worth from those which would merely bog you in life-wasting irrelevancies.

Mastery, you feel, comes from study first, then rulership. You see things through others' eyes, even those of animals, or perhaps of extra-terrestrials or imagined higher beings or angels; maybe of the "little folk" who inhabit caves, trees, and woodlands even in winter. Neighbors and others around you wherever you go hint at ways of examining life which had not occurred to you. It is well to learn from all rather than suspect or feel queasily worried about them. Trust in the Supreme comes first, then relative trust in those the Supreme has given you for experience and development.

Yet you may spend a lot of time at home, as if in hiding. Your crafty plans may be linked to the will of the Supreme, if so you link them. What is the explanation of your life? Its purpose and meaning? Maybe putting that in words is impossible, or maybe trying would be helpful on the first day of a new year. Even if impossible, the attempt is instructive. Could you express it more freely or fully in poetry, painting, dancing, a video? A setting of natural and architectural beauty could be good for this. You connect with ancestors in mind and spirit.

Reversals you have experienced have taught you a great deal, including humility. To "kick against the pricks" brings bleeding and sores. You actually have much luck at this point. It is your mind which may be struggling in vain to understand "what it's all about" and how to adjust or conquer "it." If you're a philosopher or mystic, just pondering that "it" might help. What IS "it"? Including the "pricks"?

Much consummation is available, even pressed upon you, a benediction from on high. Who are your 'spirit guides'? Even if you don't believe in such entities, it might be helpful to visualize or imagine them. Make them what you want, not what you don't want. They are, of course, subordinate to the Highest. How do you visualize Him/Her? Your visualization will be less than adequate, obviously, since G*d is infinite, but it can be a channel through which blessings arrive.

Indeed, such attempts can ascend even to worship, which few understand. The holiness of the Supreme must be maintained in our minds if we are to be whole and healthy. If we are to reflect G*d fully, we need to understand Him fully; which of course is impossible, yet there is always more which can be grasped or assimilated. It may seem that in most lives an understanding of Him comes only toward the very end. Lucky and wise are those who attempt it in their earlier years while winding through the coils of Time.

Selfishness and egoism are not to be overcome in a day. Even seeing that they are faults is not easy for the young or immature. Rather than try to see that, it might be better to investigate, investigate, investigate things, life, hopes, plans, information, systems,--reality. Eventually, penetrating insight extends not only into "things" but through and past them into what lasts longer than one lifetime. Intentions become purer when based upon X-ray vision into what is really going on. Since the only one who knows what is really going on is G*d, that means becoming more like Him or Her in consciousness, which comes at a price. May we pay more of it gladly during the coming year, and enjoy the happiness it purchases.
