}Making the Best of It{

Some who have forged identities or financial instruments might be arrested today. Others who want to be hospitable in inhospitable circumstances will get a go-ahead from the cosmos no matter how hard it might be to maintain their faith in human goodness.

I shouldn't have to say it is not an easy day because you already know that.

Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, three days this week, make up the |difficult or stressful third of the week|. It is really about two and a half days most weeks but can be longer and it looks longer when the way it slices up the days includes more awaketime than asleeptime hours.

The East Coast blizzard is a symbol of what is going on. Anyone who does not know that Mars square Saturn exactly (as it is now) in the winter means difficult inclement weather just does not know anything about astrology. I saw it coming but did not emphasize it because where I am in the West we have beautiful weather. It would take more than the kind of astrology I usually do to pick out just which sections of a country or continent would be hit by certain kinds of weather which are definitely "in the stars" or rather the planets. We have meteorologists to do that anyway. The period of Mars and the sun squaring Saturn lasts until approximately January 18, which, oddly enough, happens to be also the beginning of the Bright Hermetic Epoch. So we might expect the worst weather of this winter to happen during that period, in most places. However, the second half of February might be more wintry once again.

This time is good for mental activities, learning, teaching and writing. What seems superficial communication can become more important or profound. Cutting through ice (literally in some regions) is essential, that is, procuring the reality of things by facing their details. Then they become more beautiful or graceful because they are understood more comprehensively.

Escapism is tempting when things are tough. "Why should I bother with this since it is not working anyway?" The question is understandable. One good form of escape is recalling the past, or those sections of it which interest or refresh you. I recommend that as a form of daydreaming or internal reconstitution. Then when you return to the demanding present you will not only be more relaxed but have better perspective for dealing with pressures. You do not have to attack what seems wrong with established systems or businesses or governments directly, but can reform them more slowly through savvy thoughts, words or actions.

When things seem monotonous and hopeless, you could realize that you are in a period which requires you to maintain your faith. There are cozy places where you can recover your poise. Lofty thoughts and internal musings which absorb your experiences and transform them within yourself are reassuring at a deep level.

Measuring and weighing details precisely is also helpful. You can do this in private. You immerse yourself in possible relationships more than in immediately alive or thrilling ones. Such internal pondering of possibilities could be erotic at times (Venus aspects include an octile with Pluto). Even more exaltedly they could rise into philosophic insight which makes the world more tolerable, one of the benefits of philosophy. Seeing into divine purpose, or Final Cause in Aristotle's terms, is a cure for many human maladies.

Children attract your attention or interest. Their direct and guileless approach to their feelings and reactions is refreshing. Their deviations from what adults expect of them are instructive and perhaps honest criticism of adults' too-rigid expectations. There has to be room for individual initiative. Independence in children and adults will come out somehow no matter how they manage to adjust to social requirements.
