\Harsh Realism as Peculiar Comfort/

With the moon square Saturn (from Capricorn to Libra) we have the |difficult third of this week| today and tomorrow, though better tomorrow. One focus is difficulties in your living situation or headquarters, whether involving heat, insulation, winterizing, reconstruction, remodeling, or cleaning and organizing. All that can be handled realistically, though with perhaps little enthusiasm at first.

A visual artist may be interesting or friendly. Beauty can ameliorate a glum mood. Your inner fire keeps you warm regardless of weather. There is magic in facing up to whatever seems daunting. What could be harsh criticism could instead be a useful critique of whatever is in the way of normal satisfaction.

You might be aware of cruelty and craftiness in some, whether in business or the family. Something requires thorough exploration or investigation, for there are factors blocking your way which are invisible until unearthed. Fortunately someone steadfast and kind, an exemplar of integrity, can help dislodge obstacles.

Too little result of your labor may be depressing, yet you labor on. Something is shaping up in your work methods to make things better. Knowledge you have cannot be taken from you, no matter what the biases or hypocrisies in co-workers or those who ought to serve you. High resolves are sure to bring victory later or sooner.

The darkness of the season can be depressing, or you can take it as a mere indication of a cyclic process. When there is no light in one direction one can turn to another; or eyes closed in sleep see visions. You are struggling with a dearth of information, or contrary information, working it through and waiting for opportunities to seize what is key to your problem or project. When you feel too dependent on someone else, you may think your options vacuous. You could hide and meditate. Tomorrow is another day.

You seem to know what is best for your home, and your plans for it. Changes are realistic and calmly mapped. You have made a place for yourself and can be inflexible in holding to the pattern you have seen to be right. You expect others to recognize that you know what you are doing.

You may be aware of alternating affections in fascinating scenes where a male and female are entwined, then unentwined, then wondering what exactly is happening. We have mentioned the "refranation" of Venus and Mars in their sextile aspect, occurring from now till the middle of January. Right now they are moving closest to the sextile, but that is by a few degrees, not exact, and then they separate. So they "refrain" from consummating a relationship, although it remains a semi- or demi-relationship. You can see this going on with couples around you and perhaps with yourself. They thought they would have a wonderful holiday reunion, celebration or vacation, but now it seems as cold as the ashes beneath Santa's feet in the chimney. Yet they are still together in one way or another.

Yet there is hope and faith, as well as a desire to give as the holiday spirit makes its way into our hearts. Something stabilizes you, perhaps memories of Christmases past, or your trust that something changeless supports you always. This permits you to be free as the breeze. You need to watch that that does not become wanton, harsh libertine action which hurts or upsets people. The freedom to hurt is not real freedom for it creates a need to be hurt in turn. Yet you find freedom within the harshness, cold, and doubt; and know things will be better, which is one meaning of Christmas and New Year's.
