This week starts with the |difficult or stressful third| lasting until Wednesday afternoon in the Eastern Hemisphere (Wednesday evening in Europe). I will try to make clear what that means for today.

There is a toughness, either in yourself, someone else, or both, so there can be clashes of will. Who is going to dominate? You are using rigid self-control to pursue ambitions. There is nothing wrong in that in and of itself. Sometimes you will keep your own counsel, in other words, not let on what you are thinking, in order to gain power slowly without tipping your hand.

Have you been noticing lately how your mind is developing very solid ideas and procedures? How you are finally getting clarified structure in some things you are organizing, or others you are studying? That is the help of Mercury sextile Saturn which has been with us since December 21, lasting through January 9, stronger now because Mercury is direct. That does not mean you have the complete story, because the Bright Hermetic Epoch does not start until January 18. But you are satisfied that some things are coming together.

You have a desire for popularity, partly through writing, speaking or teaching, which might have elements of controversy yet you feel that in your seclusion you are linked with high souls whose truth will override the errors of those who oppose you. There is luck in doing what you have to do. It is a lever which moves the world closer to your heart's desire. Idealism takes the form of visions which inspire you to get practical things done as a path toward those beautiful ideals. At the same time you might need to remove old errors in people which impede that path. This is a thankless task but needs to be done, with as little offense as possible. If what seems mild critique to you seems harrowing to them, what can be done?

All this is even more interesting in that you may be inspired by invisible companions or influences to do what you need to do. That is healthy if these influences are in accord with soul-purposes. Then you bring benediction and healing to some part of the world. Understanding is a form of healing. Sometimes it reverses, in part, previous presuppositions. That can be upsetting, then illumining.

It is interesting how controversy seems to surround great souls, such as Socrates and Jesus, Gandhi and now Aung San Suu Kyi and other heroes or heroines of human rights. If this is not your lot you are either lucky, protected by divine grace, or so unprincipled that you stand for nothing important. As it is, even in a minor role you may serve some more than yourself. You carry the torch you then pass on to someone equally fit. Ancient sources of knowledge and skill become contemporary when you implement them.

The trines of Venus with both Jupiter and Uranus are beneficent and intense. This will be luck for many. Material prosperity enables you to spread your influence for good further and further. Much philanthropy is going on; it is even de rigeur among the wealthy. They feel it is boring to languish in their prosperity, but dramatically thrilling to be intrepid for a cause. (That some of this might be self-serving goes without saying, but then, who would be faultless?) They rally their ranks and persuade others to enlist, and some good at least is accomplished, as well as a noble example for all to emulate.
