Unprofitable, while she scrawls notes on a pad,
Wondering if she can adapt herself to conditions
Requiring good judgment. Then she pens musical
Notes copied from a libretto, training her voice
To emulate her favorite prima donna.
Vocal excellence overflows in melodic richness.
The story of the opera is from an old book
Now lying open on her table, a burning lamp
Beside it. She gives herself to ancient learning,
Studious and retiring when not upon the stage.
Mental wealth plus music cultivate soul values.
