}Free-fall or Contentment?{

Malaise? Aren't you feeling it? I struggle for words.

One reader said she thought I was making too much of Mercury Retrograde. But another just texted me to say that this time it has been the hardest retrograde she has ever experienced, and she is a long-time astrologer.

Why so hard this time? We look to the aspects. Mars is getting closer and closer to a square with Jupiter, and the great classic astrologer CEO Carter stated that this was in his experience (along with the Mars-Jupiter opposition) the hardest aspect in astrology. I think he was right. For example, It began, by a ten-degree orb, on the very day the planes hit the World Trade Center, 9/11/2001, and now the orb is just four degrees. Further, Mars is opposing Pluto by five degrees (increasing) while both planets square Jupiter in fiery Aries. People are "hot under the collar" about politics. And Mars in hard aspect with Pluto is known as a violent or suicidal aspect. It has its positive side, such as intense creativity, born perhaps of impatience..

Steve Bannon said yesterday that "the country is in a free-fall." Today Tim Pool said today that "every day the news is more and more deranged and psychotic." "The system is chaos, algorithmic psychopathic garbage." Well, Tim tends to be an alarmist, but he's expressing what many are feeling. It's not just that people have differing opinions about "what to do to fix things" but that they can't even agree on what is happening. Yes, this is Mercury Retrograde at its worst. That planet turns direct by May 15 (Tuesday) but the Dark or Slow Hermetic Epoch lasts until June 1, as do the hard Mars aspects just mentioned. We need to summon patience, realizing that while we may not arrive at ultimately clear and perfect plans or choices, we can keep our heads and plod along with faith in an ultimately good destiny.

Friday: One of the worst symbols of Charubel's 360 is "A horrid sight! A naked man suspended and mutilated," signifying actual or metaphoric torture. The stationary Mercury occupies that degree from May 9 through May 12, Tuesday through Friday. Some will say that the tortured man is Trump, through the rape trial, and others will say that he is Biden, with the House oversight committee proving that he is compromised through international scheming. Or it could be you or myself, or friends going through tough times; sometimes they do not state openly what they are feeling. Obviously many in Ukraine and Russia feel they are being tortured. A better degree for Mercury turns up by Saturday.

"A pair of shears" signifies, for Friday, expertise and dexterousness in any handicraft. One is, or connects with, a "good artisan."

Also there is "Contentment and happiness in luxury, people reading on davenports," repose deriving from "a pure mastery of experience." This could be a boon of Venus's trine with Saturn, exact now, and Mars's trine with Neptune. At a more superficial level it could be "A woman clothed in gaudy apparel playing with some jewels in her lap," dabbling in "habits of excess" while "fond of dress and ornamentation." There is some appropriate Friday "good-hearted foolishness" with a focus on "semblances and outward show."
