~Troubadour~A New Moon on a very dark sky
Heralds gloom, fatigue, and loss of confidence
While an epidemic of mumps brings the community
To its knees. Yet the infection is really mental,
A failure to dramatize oneself as a participant in
Current affairs. One is susceptible only to that
To which one submits. For fake relief some may turn
To luxurious stimulants--a cluster of faded exotics,
Sweet and sickly to the smell. Satiety and frailty
Go hand in hand. Others, more creative,
Resemble a troubadour standing with one foot
On a rock-ledge, his instrument slung at his side,
Listening to the music of a cascade at his feet.
Nature and the Muses make up for what we've lost.
