\In the Shadows Hope and Comfort Revive/

Moon in Sagittarius-->Capricorn
|Karmically difficult or sobering third| of this week is with us (until Sunday afternoon)
/moon goes void-of-course at 6:37a PT | 9:37a ET | 1:37p UT
until it enters Capricorn at 11:02a PT | 2:02p ET | 6:02p UT

Useful and good things can happen while Mercury is retrograde, of course. They are usually involved with the past, either recovering it, repenting for it, reviewing it, or letting it come into consciousness in order to understand it better and let it warn us about the future as well as suggest better ways we could handle the future. That is going on in so many ares, as for example Donald Trump's trade policies, which seem to be on one day and off the next. A striking demonstration of the phenomenon is today's hugely promoted long piece about the Islamic State and its three-year reign. It is fascinating, and of course disturbing, based on years of research by a brave team of reporters. It's the sort of thing that would come out while Mercury is retrograde, and demonstrates the better potentials of that phenomenon. We need to come to terms with what has happened, sometimes, to know what in the world is going on in the present and future. (Unfortunately there are millions of people in the world today who believe that what the Islamic State did is something like what the prophet Mohammed wanted, and indeed his own words and acts tend to support that belief.)

So if you feel depressed, or in a malaise, on Friday, realize that perhaps your soul is trying to get you to review and comprehend more deeply your past and your responsibility for what has happened in it, which is also your responsibility for what shall happen now. It is never a summons to suicidal self-contempt but to self-correction resulting in rebirth.

A spacious park with a baronial mansion in the background.   Ancestors of a high order. Their large possessions may have been taken by others while the true inheritor lives in poverty.   c

A woman holding scales, containing on the one side a cup of red wine, on the other a number of golden coins.   Speculative, selfish and luxurious. Heart divided between pleasure and wealth. Speculative gain, then waste by extravagance. Earthiness.   b

A cataract falling from one rocky ledge to another.  Impelled by circumstances to hazardous projects. Restless mind defective in foresight of danger. Could fall from level to level until lost in obscurity.   Compulsion.   b

A student of nature lecturing.   Explanation.   s

A ship in mid-ocean; a boundless expanse of water. It is a merchant ship.   Successful as a merchant, perhaps a traveler or navigator.  c

A Christmas tree decorated.  Symbolization.   s

A portly man, walking among pigeons, which flock upon the ground at his feet.   Chief interests in home and care of children. Attractive to young persons. Mind pacific and benevolent. Inspires confidence and faith in others.   Ministration.   b

This is a case when the symbols seem better than what the |difficult third| would suggest.  They hold out hope. It's fascinating how the first could represent someone in Iraq or Syria who lost his home and possessions to the Islamic State but is considering a return to reclaim them, if that be possible. Most of us would like both the wine and the gold coins, though the scales may force us to choose one to the detriment of the other. The falling cataract could be merely the confusion resulting from Mercury retrograde plus|difficult third|and so we need to be self-aware rather than merely pushed around by events and bad moods. There are explanations for everything, says the student of nature's laws of karma and dharma. If you are fulfilling your dharma, or birthright's purpose, you will succeed like the successful merchant or traveler. Then you have the Christmas tree and a happy domestic life.  Venus trine Saturn and Mars in the background is fostering that. So may it be.

b: Signor Borelli, 19th century clairvoyant; interpreted by Sepharial who was Walter Gorn Old
c: Charubel, 19th century clairvoyant who was John Thomas
s: Sabian symbols which came through psychic Elsie Wheeler, interpreted by Marc Edmund Jones

The symbols and their interpretation are intended to apply basically during the hours from dawn to midnight. Often a planet will move from one degree to another during the day, so I use a time near mid-afternoon for all of them, so that they shall be exactly right during most, often all, of the daylight hours. The period from midnight to dawn could partake of the nature of either day or both.
