It seems there is little stress but what we make for ourselves. We may choose to stay close to home, or keep a low profile. Courtesy toward all does not have a high price tag and pays dividends. There seems an abundance of whatever we truly need, so that our modest desires are fulfilled. 

Ease and simplicity of living, with providence, seem like "a ray of light" fallen on someone "resting 'neath a shady tree." The "child and dog with borrowed eyeglasses" are facets of ourselves examining our world in varied, interesting ways so that we never grow weary of the panorama. 

If we choose to be more active, we could do so. Then we would be victorious. An upright and astute consciousness sustained by unswerving faith attains honors naturally, surviving any assault. "A mounted Indian" gains and administers authority fearlessly. His gesture is his command. This is self-discipline which wins first recognition and then cooperation. (If you do not feel you are currently such a "commander," you may admire someone who is and enlist in her or his project. Then you would act more in the mode of the previous two paragraphs.)

\Fulsome Vision and Higher Hope/

Things are looking better. This happens to be the last day of a Bright Hermetic Epoch. The Dark or Slow Mercury (Hermetic) Epoch goes from February 2, tomorrow, until March 30, almost two months. These alternate regularly and we go through three cycles per year so if you are 40 you have already been through 120 Dark Hermetic Epochs. It is nothing to get worried about. It tends to be a more inward, withdrawn, spiritually alive time, which can be wonderful. That often corresponds with a lack of firm direction and oomph in outward business matters, so it has a reputation for being "bad" or "hard" really because these outer things seem less important at such times and one "flakes off" rather than keeping one's "nose to the grindstone." In an ideal astrologically-conscious world, employers and employees, business people, professionals and their clients, would know about all this and we could adjust our expectations accordingly. Accidents, tantrums, hurry-worry, and bitter feelings would be reduced. The world needs astrology. 

Otherwise, however, things do look as if they are improving. Just as there is the weekly |hard third| of each week because of our moon's relation to Saturn, so there is a four-times-annually "hard month" of about 34 days. We have left it today; it began on December 25. This means that in general there is less "karmic pushback" to your plans, hopes and intentions (until April 3) so it is easier to make wise decisions and keep up with the work needed to fulfill them. It can be a better time for sheer relaxation, social links, and fun when that is feasible. (If some of this seems to contradict what was just said about the DHE, well, they are independent variables and are both in effect this time around so one might say this DHE could be less stressful than many others.)

Saturday:  Keen observation and competence in judging things could be a gift you exploit.  You estimate potentials and dependabilities accurately. You might find that you feel content with your present lot, and relatively easy or smooth efforts you can make to improve it without rush.

Your home is elegant and inviting in many ways. You may have company, or visit someone else and enjoy the hospitality. A symbol we had recently returns, "A woman reclining upon a couch, scantily attired." I leave this to your interpretation. An innocent joy in the body is one possibility. Sensuousness is another, which does not have to diverge into grossest sensuality. 

"An ancient bas-relief carved in granite" fits nicely with Luna's position in Taurus today, making for a preponderance of planets (five) in earth signs. Our feet are on the ground and we know our foundations. Yet we realize that we can perceive these in a multitude of ways, through varying lenses, for differing purposes, and that makes life interesting: "A child and a dog with borrowed eyeglasses." We can examine our personal opportunities almost playfully through many levels of experience. Resulting depths of comprehension are both practical and fascinating.

The above information is fascinating! No? You think it is utterly boring? I am trying to get readers to see how valuable it can be and how it tracks with current events in their lives. Here is something I just found out: Brexit is happening today! Oh, you've been hearing about "Brexit" for years and am utterly bored by it? Me too. But it finally is happening, at the political level, and the official exit of Britain from the European Union will be at 11 p.m. British Time tonight, midnight in most European countries. Guess what? Look at the boring information above: The moon will be void-of-course until 12:19 a.m. Universal (European) time! I have said here often (I hope you noticed) that the void-of-course times are times when things end, often. (9/11/2001 was the end of two buildings, for example, and much more.) Also, we are in a |karmically serious or sobering third| of a week. Of course! (and that also was true on 9/11/2001). I watched a fascinating documentary about Studio 54, the amazing disco club in New York in the 1970s, and found that it was shut down, raided by the "feds" for tax evasion, on December 14, 1978. Guess what? The moon was void-of-course that day and also it was during the |difficult third| of that week. It was definitely the end of something big! Truman Capote and Andy Warhol no longer had a glamorous Wonderland to which to retreat any evening. I list these times here not to amuse myself or you but because they are important. They do not mean the same thing every week, of course, but pondering them with your own intelligence and independent detective work could pay off. 

Since we are likely to be highly critical, saying beneath our breath to many things we hear or read "B. S.!", it is good to remember that people are in "a hard place" in consciousness, feeling oppressed and taking it out on those who seem to be opponents. So it is good to remain silent in many cases, or prepare one's defense or offense quietly for some other more opportune moment. People feel jealous of their rights and privileges and feel they are being unfairly restrained. That could include you. But by objecting or rebelling too much or too openly they could make things worse, so it is good to adapt wisely for the time being.

Ordinary work may seem unusually hard or annoying during the nine-hour v-of-c period, but one can carry on. I leave it to you to interpret this symbol: "A woman of dark countenance standing over a prostrate man." In the Me Too era of accusations and transgressions coming to light, this could have many applications. "To either sex it is full of warning and threat" says Sepharial. Karma may be being cleared. This can happen in the privacy of one's own conscience, or in the light of day in a courtroom. We all prefer the former, I would guess.

There is an escape hatch:  "There is no symbol to this degree. [Charubel] A degree of mystery. It is allied to fourth dimensional space. Denotes one who has \something/ not in common with the rest of his race." I choose to take this optimistically. It goes with "Men cutting through ice" which suggests breaking up overly cumbersome, rigid structures in order to get at and procure something good. One might have the faith and perspicacity to do this if allied with a higher dimension.

Pushfulness and forcefulness cannot overcome Nature, when Nature is understood to be the underlying laws or patterns of human nature and human evolution. And so those who "push and shove" will not have a good day. "A battle-field of deadly conflict," though symbolic, still describes too much of what is going on in Washington and elsewhere. Yet Mars square Neptune has a colorful side to it, a desire to overcome sordid boring reality---but then the escape into a "colorful" reality of sex and drugs could end up even more sordid (the AIDS epidemic was one example). There can be a sense of failure, and irrational fears or phobias leading to dangerous reactions. 

Still there could be good decisions, as if a flash of lightning proceeding from a cloud illumined the intellect and one's choices. Then one could exercise an effective executive capacity. That means "cleavage," that is, rejecting some things to emphasize others. That includes ruthlessly examining choices and weeding out what is unprofitable. Financial fortunes, for example, may depend on such sharp discrimination.

Motion has pluses and minuses. You might benefit from temporary changes of location, as in your town or neighborhood. You make full use of your immediate genius, no matter what frontier is at the forefront. Some may offer you gifts or trinkets in a flattering or kindly manner, and you may do the same. It's something like sharing berries picked from thorny bushes.

Mars is strong and the moon is in the first face (or decanate) of Aries which is doubly ruled by Mars. The symbols for the day are uneasy. We had better calm down. One might feel that one has one hand in the kitchen, another in the car or on the street, one foot walking to the car or bus, another foot entering a nightclub; there is a feeling of being everywhere but nowhere. It is good to bring coordination to one's faculties. Better perhaps to be obsessive-compulsive or autistic than a jellyfish. Projects and imaginings run riot. This might work out if one were managing and creating a daring new club as Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager were doing at the outset of Studio 54. Otherwise . . . you can finish the sentence.

Further, many are angry or hyper-critical. One sees this not only in the impeachment insanity (have you counted the man-hours wasted?) but among the Democratic candidates (Bernie supporters sometimes go hog-wild attacking supporters of other candidates, but of course not always, and of course everything one says about politics has to have double or triple qualifiers if one is to avoid slandering someone, or causing someone unfairly to think that he or she is being slandered . . .).

At work, one may feel secure in one's position and yet insecure because those beneath one (or who feel that you might be snootily "above" them in your own mind) are quietly fuming about you and could explode given a sufficient spark. 

Where is the escape? 1. in time; 2. in space.  1. is "a ruin, the remains of an ancient massive wall, with archway." The History Channel? A historical romance, or actual study of real history (so far as we can reconstruct it accurately, which is always a real question). Maybe this is more like your personal memories; maybe you should journal them or start writing memoirs (one can do that at any age). 2. is "pelicans moving their habitat" and one might dream of moving far, far away. But what is "far" any more, in a "global culture" where technology reaches almost to every square inch? Maybe just a walk to someplace in the neighborhood will do it, re-invigorate one through a small "frontier." Dr. Jones: "When life becomes unprofitable in one phase there are always additional areas of realization in which the being may have its prompt re-establishment."

"Contention and litigation" are not surprising indications considering what is going on in Washington. In your own case you may find that while you are sympathetic and supportive of partners or friends at a distance from you, there are issues dividing you which have yet to be worked out. Individual philosophies and viewpoints seem fixed, and when at a tangent it is hard to get clarity or smooth cooperation, even though that be the conscious goal. Some individuals seem like Ayatollahs with inflexible religious or political-legal notions. 

Those who can might benefit from being in nature, among trees and landscapes, or artistic renderings of these, resting content with what they have in this world and doing simple daily tasks without murmuring. 

The square between Venus and Mars has a reputation for being libidinous, though that is not always the case. It can be something like "revenge sex" at worst, or stirred-up passion plus indefinite arousal. The symbol "A woman reclining upon a couch scantily attired" can be taken however one pleases, but our Victorian commentators warn against sensuality, sick satiety, and resulting self-reproach.  A more childlike view of bodily innocence is "Tiny children in sunbonnets." Normal contact with others and participation in living via one's particular role is innocent, natural fulfillment. The children have some egoistic desires but they have not diverged into harshness or crassness.

~Reposing Upon the Possible~

Symbolic warnings of possible calamity or accident coincide with today's exact square of Mars with both Venus and Neptune. This has a flavor of "pursuit of the unattainable" and so we should be content with what we have or can easily gain rather than stretch ourselves beyond our current powers and circumstances. Doing that could end in bitter disappointment. If we see that our limits are temporal ones---shall last for a time until we shall be released into a chance for better things---we will not ruin anything by impatience.

One of Charubel's symbols points to "an Eastern city, Constantinople." This was once Byantion or Byzantium, then was named Constantinaple after the Christian emperor Constantine, then was changed to Istanbul which according to some (but not others) could mean "plenty of Islam" as if to exorcise Christian influence. And so this might be an indication of the persisting rift between Christian or secular nations on one hand and Islamic ones run by Mullahs or Caliphates on the other. Another symbol for the same degree is "an Easter sunrise service" and so perhaps there is hope for a resurrection of humanity itself out of harsh religious constraints on any side. We await that, and I hope not for another whole century. Some of what Mars square Neptune can mean is adherence to a spiritual leader who is militant in nature, even if his ultimate goal be peace.

Then there are those who look beyond politics into the sky, "an astrological chart in square form." I have been studying the chart for the next Hermetic Epoch---a Dark or Slow one---which begins February 2 and lasts through March 29. My aim was to see what I could about this important phase of the Democratic primary season. The essence of my conclusion is: Nobody will be happy! That is, it does not appear that any candidate is going to get overwhelming approval from the Iowa caucuses (February 3), the New Hampshire primary (February 11) and Super Tuesday (March 3, when fourteen states including California will vote). Who might come out on top? My quick (by no means exhaustive) astrological survey suggests Elizabeth Warren might do best, in some way, or at least exceed expectations for her, while I do not see a groundswell for any other candidate, neither Bernie Sanders nor Joe Biden nor any of the others. What will happen after the end of this Epoch on March 29? I have not done the very complex charts I have been researching for these periods, as yet. I realize that the pollsters are putting Warren behind both Biden and Sanders at this point. Maybe they are right. Maybe I am. It is interesting. I am not PREDICTING that Warren will get the most votes, just suggesting that she might be an ultimate beneficiary of whatever happens during this period. By no means should predictive astrology be judged by this slight effort---I have not done the immensely complex calculations for all the candidates which would be required for an exhaustive projection, nor have I even looked beyond March 29.

Last, we have "a brilliant violinist" who may be releasing into the ethers "the music of the spheres." This could be Luna, Venus and Neptune together in Pisces, the other-worldly sign. Three individuals who, born with the moon in Pisces, have embodied ineffable symbol-powers are Martin Luther King Jr., Elvis Presley, and Michael Jackson. In very different ways each embodied a "dream" which many find, or found, uplifting and inspiriting.

We should have sympathy for those who have a hard time getting from one place to another, whether they are on crutches or in a wheelchair. Mobility is a wonderful gift we should be grateful for, in whatever form we share in it. We all have, and live within, an essential matrix of our own cosmically-derived identity. Each is "a child born of an eggshell." Within that matrix, motion is of the thought or of the soul and is unlimited.

"A tiger standing guard over its young litter" is strong, even ferocious, toward those who would prey on those it protects, but tender toward those to whom it is devoted. You care about a youthful friend. The sea gulls are still watching that ship, so we can be alert to every opportunity at hand. It's been a very long void-of-course period (more than a day) but chance is providing us with what we need or even desire. 

Sprinkles of fairy-dust permeate us while Venus and Neptune are together in Pisces. "The field of Ardath in bloom" is the inherent friendliness of the universe as we rely on it and make ourselves fit for it to rely on us. There is a sense of revitalization in the household or family situation and perhaps recovery from illness. When we dedicate talents and possessions to the over-all reality, we participate in its spiritualizing magic.

The eight hours between the two events listed above might be the best time to contact anyone for a date, meeting, outing, or any purpose, and reach agreement. Then after the v-of-c begins, all is well unless one is wanting to settle firm commitments of any kind. It might be better to let things ride and transmogrify themselves.

"A man unmasked" is not necessarily an ill omen. Motives are revealed in yourself and others. People's secrets will out, one way or another. If one can laugh at this, fine; or, if more serious, one can "repent" and promise to do better. People are curious about one another or want to analyze one another. There are tensions regarding friendship, money or both, a need to keep trusting when someone seems unreliable, or at least to trust the reliable side of him or her. Venus square Mars can be unkindness, or attractions which go awry or degenerate into gross sensuousness with little gentility. It can be trouble or worry concerning someone in the family, including a parent. Still, many pressures may be diminishing as the sun moves away from Saturn (now by more than eleven degrees).

Some things are more subtle than they appear on the surface. Gain can come through means which seem mysterious, through "lucking out" or "wishing on a star" (Venus with Neptune in the latter's sign and that of the former's exaltation, both sextile Jupiter, and more). The author and director of the drama in which we play has put sweet secrets into the script. We can be like "sea gulls watching a ship." What one does not get, another does, and there is enough for all. 

Mars as a favored planet suggests a direct approach to hopes, with penetration and ambition along a clearly marked path.  (Especially during the 8 hours mentioned in paragraph 1, or following a plan one has settled on then.) Tying oneself to the creative power of the universe makes one independent, or able to exploit resources in a magical way.

We emerge out of the |bleak third of this week| slowly. The process is something like "the ground hog looking for its shadow." Through trial and error we learn to anticipate the trend of events and make self-adjustments to capitalize on the momentary situation. One may feel that one is "a performer of a mystery play" because life is subtle! more than obvious. It's a matter of interpreting the dramas in human society as they unfold, often mysteriously. (The "mystery plays" were religious, not murderous.) 

It's a little early for "a cherry tree in full blossom" but you may appreciate a precocious person whose blossoming life pleases many. This individual, though totally youthful, takes seriously "a council of ancestors" whether they be parents, spiritual guides or mature friends. Therefore he or she is beloved because welcoming of good influences whether or not able to live them out fully. 

The New Moon may get us energized sufficiently to feel like "a man stripped to the waste hewing timber." He or she does not shirk labor but makes good use of native powers (Venus square Mars is vitalizing; Mercury sextile Mars is skillful). Rustic simplicity could build a house or found a colony. The creative power of the universe is increased in us as we reach out to the Divine. "ideality brought to the point of miracle" (Dr. Jones) is magic of the real not illusory kind.

You may worry that some of your hopes and schemes could, after seeming to be propitious, fail you at last. This is not inimical fate but a result of anticipating something which is unrealistic. So it is good, especially on a |difficult third| day, to suspect that the "fox running apace in the moonlight" may be promising you too much while really intent on his crafty predation. He has secrets that would not bear the light of day. Caution regarding investment or spending is advisable. 

Being content with your home, or spending time there, maybe making it more pleasant, could be spirit-lifting. Thinking about oneself is not always self-centered and decadent but could help you get your bearings and a sense of what you are all about. You aspire toward hidden knowledge, "The Pyramids and the Sphinx," and could pursue and find some of it, as if it had always been within you and needed only an awakened imagination to bring it to life. This could help you get over the hard part of the week which more-or-less reaches its peak right when the moon goes void-of-course (time above) because it happens to be squared to Saturn then. Not "bad" but "serious."

Taking on responsibilities is strengthening rather than burdensome. Your merits can bring you into a position of trust, such as "an officer arrayed like a Chinese mandarin in an official robe of purple, gold and blue." Working alone is the necessary prelude to being lauded in public. The hard aspects today---sun square Uranus, Venus square Mars, and moon square Saturn---are a challenge to live for someone else or for G*d and the human race. Somehow you are seriously linked with someone very close to you whom you guard, and who guards you. This is symbolized by "a circle within a circle, both concentric." Sometimes one of you is the outer circle, sometimes the other.  The harmony between you reflects the harmony each has with the world as a whole.

Things seem quite straightforward. You can proceed with plans and accomplish what is intended. The |difficult third| for today is mostly just sobriety and resolve, not intense suffering. 

Some people are crafty and cunning, selfish and maybe  cruel, "a fox running apace in the moonlight." It is good if they avoid at least criminal offenses. Others are the opposite, "true knights" who defend the defenseless and aid the poor. When these two types interact, the latter may benefit the former or the former exploit the latter. Someone attractive and interesting may act in ways which hurt others. Somehow all fits together in the ultimate plan.

There is an undercurrent of mysterious knowledge, "the Pyramids and the Sphinx." Long-lasting artifacts or works of art certify to us what we are, or may become. They play a role in masonic and occult rituals as well as many religions. By tapping into solid ethical traditions we may be fitted to "pursue a savage multitude," that is, help mankind to overcome its worst sins and mistakes so we may dwell in a sustainable and happy world. 

Sometimes what is honorable is unprofitable. But a patient and firm will endures misfortune while following the better course. There may be periods of darkness when all seems futile, but soon "the earth turns" and the stars come out and "spiral wheels within wheels" carry us onward and upward toward "the perfect day." Such hopes are certified by the moon's conjunction with Jupiter and sextile to Venus while those two benefics are themselves in a one-degree sextile. All the waiting is seen to be worthwhile.

The moon void-of-course all day makes it a contemplative time more than an active one, except for activities which are well-settled, normal, routine: "A man driving a farmer's horse and cart." Those tasks can be completed with patience yet as snappily as possible to allow for freedom of the mind and nonchalant exploration.

There is a desire to rectify whatever errors one has made: "A widow's past brought to light." We may find it impossible to go back and do over, with more awareness and kindness, what we have done to affect others, yet reflecting on that and resolving to do better in the future improves our karma and may even, at subjective levels, help those we feel we have hurt somehow. 

Steadfastness and endurance, such as that of "a tortoise," help us attain whatever position we have set out toward. For some of us this may involve analytic skills, a process of wary testing, almost scientific, in subjects that are our own.

There is a sense that one has missed out on something, or been denied it, yet since it is one's heritage one can reclaim it. There is something old, almost romantic in one's memory, which is a potential boon though some might think it is relegated to the past. It is still alive.

Luna square Neptune fits with "a man standing at a junction of cross roads, not knowing which way to go," for there are too many choices perhaps, or deciding information through research is needed, and "whichever way I go, no one will understand me" (the sun square Uranus). Yet we are impatient to get to "a spacious park with a baronial mansion in the background," that is, a secure position without the crowding of harrowing choices, "a goodly heritage." In fact a particular building in your memory may have an answer for you.

What group identities seem to be holding you back, yet at the same time supporting you? It's a paradox. You hold up "a flag," a particular organization, religious or political grouping, or cultural identity, and believe in it, yet you know it is not perfect and so it "turns into an eagle that crows," that is, you emerge from it to be your own self neither rejecting it totally nor kowtowing to its every nuance but making adjustments in your allegiance so you can be yourself fearlessly. What helps in this is wide intellectual learning or study, "a variety of books and papers in disorder," Too Much Info! which nevertheless is important in the right proportions. You select from it what you can handle well. It guides your allegiances.

Charubel puts in a good word for planet-gazers, "an astrological chart in square form," and says it indicates "a just, kind person." So astrologers are, to my perception over the decades, some wonderful people whose courage I admire. They follow out their "pilgrimage" regardless of support or censure because they have seen the truth of the stellar science, astral logic. In your own case, following any adventurous fortune is precarious, but carrying it out develops singular character.

"This ruler will be a ruler indeed." Who is that? The question of the day for Americans."

I wrote that before I knew that the New York Times is going to announce its endorsement for President Sunday evening (it's afternoon as I write). Charubel seems to have known that back in the 19th century! Why they are waiting until 10 p.m. Eastern on a Sunday night, I do not know. Whom will they choose? For my part I don't see how it could be anyone other than Elizabeth Warren. I could be wrong, but probably not as wrong as that same New York Times was in 2016 when, on the very afternoon of the election it was predicting Hillary Clinton as a handy winner!

The affronts of fortune are sometimes hard to bear. Have we tried too hard to do something beyond our powers or our current skills and possibilities? No sweat, just regroup and try something else. Incompetence is temporary for someone who is intent on learning. Sepharial says we should "study humility and service of others, and cultivate a proper understanding of [our] aptitudes and powers." There is freedom of spirit despite any "hardship or privation." If Dear Prudence has abandoned us for a while and we "lie upon a heap of stones by the roadside," we could remain content through natural simplicity of spirit.

Or, if we take a different tack and get angry with the world, we could be disagreeable fault-finders. "Two bulls fighting" may forget what the quarrel was about, intent on being victorious. Hypercriticism is the other side of the coin of hypocrisy. We may assume that we are upholding some national, ideological, partisan or tribal right. "A flag turns into an eagle that crows." Maybe it is good to identify with a group and be its hero, but there remain ethical adjustments to make if we unwittingly advocate unfairness.

Who is the idealized leader you believe in? Many are considering that in view of the U. S. primary season almost upon us. It is not always wrong to be self-centered, if this is not gross selfishness but an attempt to go within and get one's spiritual bearings. It is a nucleation of one's "illimitable self-potentiality" (Dr. Jones). While doing that you may get illumination about very practical matters. The world is "a laboratory for the soul." You reconcile various factors in your life through an "inner and spiritual outreaching." 

There is a sense in which all individuals are the same. This is hard for our egos to see. Yet each is also unique, and the square between Mercury and Uranus brings out that uniqueness, not necessarily detracting from the common similarity. "A woman reading tea leaves" sees the "possible consummations" of an individual life and brings them to encouraging focus. So we see how to take part in the universal scheme with advantages to ourself. 

Illumination can come from long and patient study. (This can be a virtue of Capricorn, in which four planets domicile while Mars is in Sagittarius, sign of philosophic insight.) Patient vigils exercise the intelligence toward grasping the secrets of nature's hidden laws. We may take our inheritance through an ancient lineage, such as "an officer arrayed like a Chinese mandarin." The world entrusts its charges, and high estate, to those whose dignity overcomes all opposition.

The above information is amplified by this: "An indescribable scene: chaos, confusion, dissolving views." Sounds like the dystopias invented by multiple script-writers for TV series! If that's your taste, you can have it today. But after the horror one might feel like "a wreck floating on a peaceful sea." There can be salvage. The "wreck" drifts to the shore and all can renegotiate or reconstruct their lives. 

"A large group of pheasants" suggests the illimitability of human procreation or multiplication, as if one were "just another pheasant, they all look alike." Well, that is humbling. "A large aviary" on the other hand suggests a wide variety of different species, or human types, so that community arises from their appreciating or even glorying in their differences. Mercury and the sun square Uranus show a strong desire to "be oneself" while fitting one's uniqueness into the broader society one way or another.

'A youth holding a lighted candle" is transcending all the confusions and sometimes abrasive differences by simply relying on the light, on Something greater than whatever perplexes him. Then he might meet with "a golden-haired goddess of opportunity" who emanates protection and reward, thus inspiring confidence. Such lovely harmony could be ours (if we rise beyond the lunar issues in the data above) especially around 3-11 pm ET | 6p-2a ET | 11p-7a UT.

In accord with the above indications, one symbol is "a man on a treadmill." That is, hard labor with little reward. Well, we have all felt that as our lot at times. Some individuals live their lives in rustic, unglamorous settings and do not complain. Unpolished, they live close to the soil. Not really uncouth, they are genuine and sincere. Maybe such people are in your life or maybe they benefit you unbeknownst to you. 

In synch with the Via Combusta, there is "a man standing at the junction of cross-roads not knowing which way to go.'  There is "a cosmic reshuffling" and we don't know how it will fall out. Yet too much indecision is weakness. Conservative choices are best---the U. S. began the Iraq war in 2003 on a day the moon was in the Via Combusta (burning way). Not smart, as politicians in both parties seem now to agree. Maybe a failure to decide would have been better. That would give time to consider all possibilities. This is specially important if one is in a position of trust and responsibility, in government or business. Caution and secrecy are appropriate sometimes. 

Better things are possible, based on some consistent foundation or established security in your life. "A strong iron gate within a trrilithon" could be the entrance to a haven you provide for those close to you. It is a refuge from the world's insults and the aforementioned "treadmill." It provides justice, protection and rest. If you know, or haply connect with, "a golden-haired goddess of opportunity" (Venus nonagen Pluto and sextile Uranus) you are blessed with rewards for your unconditioned expectation and happy self-expenditure.

A paramount fact remains that there are five planets in Capricorn. This is very rare. Three of the slowest-moving planets---Pluto, Saturn, and Jupiter---are there, plus the sun and Mercury. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. Saturn is delay. It is also persistence. Thus we find many astrologers observing that Capricorn individuals often have extreme trials early in their lives but persist and are doing very well later on in maturity. At present we may all feel that only "the long haul" is working and that there are many delays disturbing us. This comes out in a symbol for the day, "a man feeling his way over a bog." Yet Luna's sextile with Mars should give us the energy we need. We have again the "too revolting to be given" degree so should take care not to dissipate our energies in addictions. 

The cosmos is trying to educate us, as "a mother with her children on stairs." We learn sometimes slowly and sometimes with bursts of illuminating rapidity. Some small position of authority is ours, at least, where we are trusted because we have been responsible. It is sometimes necessary to keep others' secrets (and official sealed-up ones in some positions).

There are wide sympathies and possibly a taste for or interest in travel. Good fortune confers tranquil manners and a peaceful disposition. There could be high living with a taste for the good things in life. This could result in coarseness and self-indulgence, or hospitality and conviviality in a place which feels like home or a second home.

\Earth Yields Largesse to the Worthy/

There are questions of who really has power, in any context, and that is interesting. 

"Rocks and things forming therein" is a fascinating symbol in that seven of the ten planets are now in earth signs! Most important is the conjunction of the sun and Mercury with Saturn and Pluto, all tight, within two to three degrees, and that was true over the weekend during the very difficult weather in many parts of the world. Saturn is the planet of cold, and I have found it to be also the planet of precipitation. (Also Neptune sometimes.) You can count on it that usually the hardest parts of any winter are when planets are either square, opposite, or conjoined to Saturn. I have seen this over the decades, wherever I have lived. There is a question of "orb," that is, how long we can expect this cold wave, or wave of difficult weather (including, oddly enough, the fires in Australia, because it is in the Southern Hemisphere so heat is the problem there. Saturn can also indicate too much heat, when afflicted).  By ten degrees, this specially harsh spell could be said to end by January 24 or 25, or to drag on a week more. Today, the moon in Virgo is trine those Capricorn planets so there is some relief, or people are learning how to be calm and comfortable during the ordeal at least. (For me it has been one of those endless respiratory infections, though it seems on the wane.) Sometimes a bout of Saturn problems leads to indifference, or detachment such as the Buddha recommended. 

There is a desire to prove oneself, to say "This is me, this is what I can do." "A buffalo is standing on an eminence, pawing the ground and snorting." Don't mess with me. That is the earth signs in their glory.  There is competition, "two men running a race," and this is both for practical gain and for the sheer exultation of trying to win.

And winning is possible, with a grand trine in earth signs. The victory is made more glorious by the difficulties one has to overcome in the process. At last there is "a field of ripe corn; the reapers are at work 'neath the beams of the sun." Fortune smiles and there is abundance. With this, one could aid those who need special help, as if one were "a noble person, a defender of the defenseless, a benefactor of the indigent and poor."

I am always somewhat amused by Charubel's symbol for 25Capricorn 26, "Too revolting to be given." He warns us to beware of "bad company," "the gambling hells," and "stimulants." That is pretty solid advice. You might note people falling into self-defeating habits or addictions. On the other hand, we can't avoid the world entirely so the trick might be keeping one's composure while all around seem to be losing theirs. One could then be a stabilizing influence. "Rocks and things forming therein" symbolize the composition of our minds and thoughts when we create our reality effectively from what has already been settled or established. 

One could be saved, financially or otherwise, by someone or some agency "throwing a lifebuoy." Or one might do this for someone else. When oneself and Nature have proved inadequate to an emergency, someone else might have the particular mana or skill which saves the situation. Or one might oneself be "a true knight, a defender of the defenseless, a benefactor of the poor and indigent." We need such individuals, no matter what the politicians may do or fail to do.

Though not everything is perfect in the daily chart (when is it? we have to make our own perfection), the final two symbols suggest that the square between Venus and Mars (January 8 through February 15 by the largest 10-degree orb) can be stimulating and thrilling rather than contentious. "A man and woman stand face to face, their hands clasped." One feels genial and sociable. There is fidelity and devotion. One can form combinations and unite forces which would be incomplete singly. "A man and a woman play together, with fruits, flowers and wine upon a table beside them." There are youthful animal spirits and mirthfulness. (The grinch says, remember the first paragraph so these indulgences do not disintegrate into confusion.) At best, pleasure, cheer and love could find us ready to appreciate and pyramid them.

^Deserved Reward^

When there are struggles to escape danger, or what seems disaster, a "lifebuoy" is thrown and one is rescued. Such is the promise of Charubel. This could be appropriate with Sun, Pluto, Saturn and Mercury all tightly together in Capricorn and therefore ruled by Saturn which, through them, rules all the other planets in the chart [except Neptune if one grants him rulership of Pisces wherein he swims. Perhaps he carries the lifebuoy.]. The challenges are such that we ought not to be ashamed of asking for or accepting help. Likewise we can give it when someone evidently needs it. 

If we are "getting over" other problems, we know we have earned that victory and therefore gladly accept "two awards for bravery in war." We have dedicated ourselves to something and been alive in fulfilling the promise, and so receive deserved recognition. Sepharial says that we may even "rise to distinction and offices of great power and influence." We have earned some special authority and our integrity is unquestioned, symbolized by "a scepter surrounded by a crown."

We use our intelligence and understanding to gain enlightenment on any matter of value, and then the cosmos shares its secrets as if we had engaged the services of "a carrier pigeon." Good aspects to Venus, and Luna's position in Leo, could signify romantic leanings. "Cupid knocking at the door" is allurement toward self-consummative intimacies which may happen, unhappen, and happen otherwise.

"A general accepting defeat gracefully" is ourselves when we realize that if we lose some games of life we are winning others. Being graceful in defeat does more for self-respect and respect from others than would feeling resentful or angry. "An albatross feeding from the hand" is ourselves sensing that the needs of others around us are as significant as our own, and by attending or ministering to them we benefit ourselves, nurturing human cooperation and kindness. 

Symbols and hieroglyphics cover the walls of a spacious hall, and we contemplate them. The ancient and mystical are good for us, taking us to a timeless realm wherein we can better cope with current temporal issues. "The constellations in the sky" likewise offer us surety by their permanence. Ancient companions, they give us orientation for sailing, or for life-choices through astrology, but never compel us or take away our ever-present freedom of determination. 

We may feel some of the weight of the world because of the sun's very close conjunction with Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, but the |hard third| of this week is slowly fading and the moon in Leo is generally upbeat, so the final two symbols suggest game-like pleasures. "A game of cricket" connotes sportsmanship, playing in conformity to rules without personal whining or complaining. We become ourselves by being ourselves among other players. "A cup, a pack of cards, and dice" go even further into pure chance as well as skill so that we let ourselves face unkind or kind destiny with a smile. Gambling can be a vice but in its mild forms is merely a game. These symbols together suggest taking events and people as factors in a happy gambit or gambol, never disturbing nor threatening to any degree.
