A young laurel tree, broken by the wind and withered. Hopeful and honorable, full of projects for the future, but loses opportunities through misfortunes. Affections are sincere, but fate seems against him in this respect. Honors are snatched from him; the flowers of life wither in his hand. Let him practice self-restraint and encourage contentment. We go from the intense and dramatic--the fighting bulls, the broken laurel tree, the Samson who conquers his unjust enemies--all adding up to "a mystery play"--on to the mundane, the men experimenting with mechanics. (That might also be technology.) The girls and boys too are engaged in ordinary formulaic "gym" activity, though with animation. The goblet, emitting ruddy light in the grandeur of spiritual loftiness and benevolence, is a fitting reward for our hopes and attempts, no matter how fumbling they be at times.
