Longer-term periods such as one Hermetic Epoch (about two months) may seem unreal, and yet my studies of them over many past years have convinced me that they are not at all vague or indefinite. Still, afterview is always easier than foreview, and sometimes the present situation is hardest to discern cogently until the smoke has cleared (or the candy been digested or the hangover hung). So it is with trepidation that I try to give some clues about the current Dark Hermetic Epoch extending from November 15 through January 9:
In any DHE there is a danger of giving up too easily. People resign when they would have done much better for themselves by staying the course through all the difficulties and confusions. The chart for the midpoint of this Epoch puts the moon in high focus, in a bowl chart determined by a cardinal opposition. That could mean: You want to get things done quickly and you are intense about it, but you also realize that it will take time and so you slow down to be thorough. The Sabian symbol for the moon, "A third wing on the left side of a butterfly," suggests that you could try in futile ways to do things which might better be left undone or done more simply. The butterfly does not need that third wing, in fact it hampers its flight. Today on the radio I heard criticisms of the new Republican tax laws which amounted to this: The economy is already going strong, and this law, designed to stimulate it further, could just overheat it to the point where the Fed would have to raise interest rates to slow it down, so the net result could be no gain at all for the economy. This butterfly does not need that third wing, in fact, it might slow it down. Another way to look at it: The wealthy people who will benefit most by the tax cut are already flying high (the stock market soaring for the past year) and do not need the "third wing" of a tax cut to be as prosperous as they could possibly wish to be.
Borelli's symbol for the sun-Mercury conjunction which determines the time of this chart is "Two arrows crossed" and it means strife and litigation or a litigious attitude. (I got into such an argument just yesterday at a spiritual group where my criticism of the news media did not get any appreciation and I felt miffed and left early.) Of course we know our President delights in the crossing of arrows, and it appears that his appointment of Pompeo to replace Tillerson as Secretary of State (if it happens) would be a move toward military rather than diplomatic approaches. I don't need to list other examples; the sex scandals; on and on.
But the Sabian symbol for the same degree might give an answer: "A Chinese laundry," keyword: Seclusion. In other words, being secluded to carry on with your own intense work might be better than going out on a crusade to change things or force change. That would make sense during a Dark Epoch when the direct approach is often less effective than the indirect.
Neptune's symbol, "An examination of initiates," suggests that we feel we are being examined for our skills or the way we use them, and that could be all to the good if it inspires us to perfect those skills in order to qualify for something we aspire toward.
The symbol for Pluto, which is at the focus of a T square and so very much emphasized, is "A child of about five with a huge shopping bag." The Republicans showering gifts upon their rich donors in order to curry favor, and the rich donors knowing that gains from the tax cuts will enlarge their "shopping bag." Of course this is also appropriate for the Christmas holiday which has become a worship of Santa rather than Christ, it seems.
I hope we can live the Jupiter symbols: Charubel's is "A dove. Innocent and harmless; one who has much moral courage; who thinks and acts from the heart more than from the head; a true friend; a constant lover." And Borelli's: "Two men seated at a table with beakers of wine before them." Sepharial says this shows joviality and sympathy, and a degree of self-indulgence along with indiscretion or frankness of mind and liberality. Also "A kindly but weak nature, and a very intimate knowledge of human character," with the keyword Comradeship.
But let's not get too soft . . .

Sometimes long-term aspects will depress the ratings for weeks at a time, or raise them. The indications are intended to be most accurate from dawn of the given day until midnight. Then, from midnight until the next dawn, that quarter-day may partake of the nature of one or both days on either side. It is a transition period, usually reserved for sleep. Note: I am not giving any five-star ratings until the Dark Hermetic Epoch ends on January 10. The other ratings remain the same, but the uncertainty in the DHE makes * * * * * unrealistic.
