Moon in Capricorn-->Aquarius   * * *
/moon goes void-of-course at 7:38a PT | 10:38a ET | 3:38p UT   * *+
until it enters Aquarius at 6:30p PT | 9:30p ET | 2:30a(Th) UT    * * *

I would guess that some of you noticed that the horrid train accident in Washington-Oregon occurred during the |Karmically serious third| of last week (on Sunday). That was the day I had marked with three stars, and then on Monday informed you that I had realized that was a mistake, and I recalculated with one new value for the final days of an Old Moon and the day then became a two-star day. I did that based on my own mood and experiences with a few other individuals, not even knowing then about the train wreck. But, as I have said and probably will have to say again, there are more accidents during those |third-of-the-week| times. Which is why I mark them every week, to alert you to bad moods and depression and resulting troubles. Obviously there were human errors (more than one it appears) causing that accident. People are more susceptible to such mistakes during any Mercury Retrograde period, and also during any |Karmic third| period. (I use the word "karmic' for lack of a better, to imply that no matter how bad something then seems it is a result of our human choices somehow or other.)

I had thought of making a rule that no "karmically serious third" period would get more than two stars. But research convinced me that that is not always true when there are enough counteracting favorable aspects and positions. This time, however, the rating was hanging by the thread of one point and it was easy to correct the situation without disrupting the normative charts in the archive.

I indicated that for Tuesday, the |difficult third| would end at 11:57a Pacific Time. I looked out the window about 11:30 and saw heavy clouds everywhere and rain. At 11:53 I looked again and saw a strip of blue over in the northwest. By 12:38 p.m. that strip had expanded dramatically and the rain had stopped. Now, three hours into the * * * period,  it is a sunny afternoon with blue sky and mostly white clouds. I am not claiming that weather patterns always fit that dramatically with the aspectual patterns, but they often do and it can be striking.

Some may say, "But the Republicans passed their horrid tax plan during a three-star period." Well, we aren't sure yet as I write. But others will say "Oh, it is a wonderful tax plan!" So it's a matter of opinion. When Mercury is retrograde all bets are off, and what seems a good plan may reveal its flaws later, but the exhilaration of getting something-or-other passed will probably show up in the stock market's advance forward.

But low-wage workers will say, "I can't eat the stock market."

One thing the new plan does, some say, is to encourage dishonesty of a sort, or finding strange ways of getting exemptions, such as becoming a corporation rather than a person to get a lower tax rate. This would be in accord with the current aspect of Mercury Retrograde square Neptune right at its station.  That does not have to be prosecutable tax evasion but could be just being clever and semi-deceptive enough to get a lower rate. Oh joy, for accountants and tax lawyers at least!

It is fascinating that the tax laws are being revised just when Mars and Jupiter are together in Scorpio, the sign of "other people's money" (natural 8th house). That aspect began by ten degrees on December 15 and lasts until January 27, while people and corporations will be trying to figure out their game-plan under the new laws.

Wednesday:  We may experience the waywardness and eccentricity of a comet, or observe it in someone else. This is not necessarily perverse but could be genius of a sort no one understands at first. There are also smoother possibilities of psychological rapport with others, "The moon shining across a lake."

Discoveries are possible closer to the earth, "A spade protruding from the soil." Treasure is where you find it. The lone seeker, even if headstrong and restless, can unearth natural secrets.

We need to beware of indolence during the Mercury Retrograde period (up to the 22nd-23rd and even after that in the DHE to January 10th) because the other planets, and human beings and institutions, keep moving and we could be stung into the realization that we got left behind. However, we do not have to keep whipping ourselves either, but rest when appropriate, for composure ensures that we do not waste ourselves in pointless endeavors. "A chubby boy on a hobbyhorse" may be doing nothing but is safe from worse mischief.

There is such a thing as mental intoxication as well as physical. This could be thrilling because of the trines of Mars and Jupiter with Neptune, and of Venus and the sun with Uranus. Amazing things could be true! This goes with the recent re-invigoration of interest in UFOs, even in the New York Times (very rare), which phenomena get much more airplay in any Mercury Retrograde period, for people seek the unknown in order to escape the known. However, not all is delusion, and some who are not understood are ahead of their time: "A man standing alone in a dark and gloomy valley. A ray of brilliant light comes direct from the heavens onto the crown of his head."  Whether angels, UFO travelers, or the dear departed, Invisibles could give us light.

The most crucial distinction is between one or two-star times versus three, four, or five-star times. It's wise to "lay low" on the former (except in one's inner, spiritual life), but expand and be more daring on the latter. Sometimes long-term aspects will depress the ratings for weeks at a time, or raise them. The indications are intended to be most accurate from dawn of the given day until midnight. Then, from midnight until the next dawn, that quarter-day may partake of the nature of one or both days on either side. It is a transition period, usually reserved for sleep. Note: I am not giving any five-star ratings until the Dark Hermetic Epoch ends on January 10. The other ratings remain the same, but the uncertainty in the DHE makes * * * * * unrealistic.
