Message for Weekend of December 16-17, and Week Ahead

Weekend of December 16-17, 2017, and Week Ahead

Grinch Update: That rather morose gentleman says that Christmas will be a two-star day, and he is glad of that. However, Cosmic Piper says that the 24th, the whole day of Christmas Eve, will be a three-star day (especially early). Fortunately it is a Sunday, so it might be good to plan for more partying and celebrating then than on the 25th itself. If the 25th is a family day, you might want to spend celebratory time with other friends on the 24th; or if alone, don't worry about being mostly solitary on the 25th, but plan something special or social for the 24th. The Grinch will cower in the background.

My mother always said "It's the thought that counts" so I am sending out thought-presents this year.

If the real Christmas Spirit falls upon us, we probably should not think too much about harsh astrological aspects, but let's cover some of them now:  The most prominent is Venus approaching her conjunction with Saturn. Her hard aspects with him, about four times a year, are what I have named the "nobody loves me" aspects. But since everybody feels that, you can take some comfort that you are not alone, and make allowance for others' remoteness or even, sometimes, bitterness. The conjunction seems less difficult than the others, but is always felt. It is a "test of loyalty," so it makes sense that it happens this year at Christmas when we try to be loyal to everyone important in our lives. We swallow our disapproval or doubt of "loved ones" (though the Grinch tries to exacerbate all that) and get on with the merry-making. Actually that should not be so hard because right on the 24th-25th Venus and Mars will be in a septile aspect (by less than two degrees). This I have found to be good and meaningful in regard to interpersonal relations of all kinds, especially if there is a romantic element. This Christmas may mark a memorable transition in marriages and partnerships. The loved one's movements are allied with yours in a vital, youthful way.

Old or lasting friendships are highlighted. Their reliability is wonderful. There is depth in such  connections, that is, one is not afraid to suffer with the loved one in order to share her or his happiness (both sun and Venus close to Saturn). Saturn often indicates the elderly, while a field placement in the fifth accents youth, so the generations will be interconnecting and trying to get it right, anticipating the feelings and needs of each other.

Favorable aspects to Mars and Jupiter in Scorpio suggest that many are feeling confident, or at least momentarily pleased, with income from work or investment. In the weekly chart Mars is in the degree "A gold rush."

At other times there will be seclusion to attend to one's spiritual life and inner composure.

Mercury's square with Neptune warns against agreements which are questionable, perhaps swindles, and against liars or those who twist the truth to their advantage (but not to yours!). The typical astrological advice to avoid signing documents while Mercury is retrograde is doubled-down here with this configuration. There could be defamation, or subtle undermining of reputation, either yours or someone's important to you. So again, it is good to know one's loyalties, and to be loyal to Truth per se as far as one can.

During the coming week there is looseness of structure in the planetary pattern. That makes it wise to shape one's life and consciousness in accord with one's best ideals so that one does not get drawn into anything draining or pointless.

December 2017, Daily Ratings (Maximum * * * * *)

24 Sunday      * * *      After 6:49p PT | 9:49p ET   * *+
The most crucial distinction is between one or two-star times versus three, four, or five-star times. It's wise to "lay low" on the former (except in one's inner, spiritual life), but expand and be more daring on the latter. Sometimes long-term aspects will depress the ratings for weeks at a time, or raise them. The indications are intended to be most accurate from dawn of the given day until midnight. Then, from midnight until the next dawn, that quarter-day may partake of the nature of one or both days on either side. It is a transition period, usually reserved for sleep. Note: I am not giving any five-star ratings until the Dark Hermetic Epoch ends on January 10. The other ratings remain the same, but the uncertainty in the DHE makes * * * * * unrealistic.
