Month Ahead

It's time to look again at the larger-pattern, longer-term indications in the sky.

There are two basic measures of Time that I am now using (although there could be many others): One the Dark and Bright Hermetic Epochs, each about two months; the other the Zodiacal months, each slightly more than 30 days.

We are in a Bright Hermetic Epoch until Wednesday November 15, this week. Then the Dark Epoch begins and lasts until January 10. Not to worry: This could be fine for the holiday season, with a lot of reminiscence, backtracking, nostalgia, and connections with old friends or family. That is one trend in the Dark or Slow or Lazy Epochs (I chose Dark out of a number of possible designations as perhaps the least confusing, but I never meant "evil" or "destructive" by that, any more than night-time is evil or destructive. [Sweet dreams!]).

I am experimenting with charts set up for the center of each Epoch, when Mercury is closest to our sun from geocentric perspective, and believe they have value, but for now I would rather take a preview of the month of Sagittarius, from November 21 through December 20, and compare it with our current month of Scorpio.

I had indicated that there were more "good" aspects in the Scorpio than in the Libra chart; and now it is heartening to say there are even more "good" ones in Sagittarius than in Scorpio, a boost from 63 per cent to 71 per cent. In other words, from 10 smooth/6 difficult to 12 smooth/5 difficult. Also, while the "bogeyman planet" Saturn was square Mars in the Scorpio chart, in Sagittarius it has no harsh aspects at all. Its conjunction with Mercury suggests concentrated mental work or study, for many, which is both practical and theoretical or could alternate between the two. (Einstein had that aspect in his birth chart.) There remains a focus on saving, budgeting, or income, and methods of improving one's financial status, but with less worry or trouble, it appears. Something you have already decided about your personal money plans should be kept intact, because we tend to make wrong moves in a Dark Epoch, and Saturn is a "hold the fort" planet. The DHE makes things look more changeable or insecure than they really are, which is why people make bad moves then. In other words, zip up your pocketbook and resist the temptation to try something radical or totally new to you.

There should be less upset or harshness this month (that is beginning November 21 ten days from now) because Uranus will no longer be the "handle planet in a bucket chart," which is a tendency toward experimentation which can be good but can also be too individualistic and inconsiderate. You may have noted that people are "in their own worlds" and find it hard to make concessions. However, in Scorpio Venus was the sole dispositor of the other planets (except Neptune if one take it as the ruler of Pisces) and so as I had remarked, women were in the driver's seat, with all the talk of women's roles being more exalted and respected in the face of all the revelations about male misconduct and harassment, etc. That phase may be over in the Sagittarius month because Venus and Mars share power, but with Mars holding more of it it appears. Still, the conflicts should be mitigated even though Mars is feeling empowered. Of course every woman has a Mars within her and she will be able to use that same empowerment in her work and outreach. Venus and Mars will be in mutual reception, that is, Venus in Mars's sign and Mars in Venus's. This has interesting correlations with gay life and transgendered life. Gore Vidal had that placement of the planets in his birth chart and he wrote the comic novel Myra Breckenridge about a man (Myron) who had become a woman. This was long before transgender became a "thing." We may be hearing a lot about it in the Sagittarius month, as well as about gay and lesbian issues.

The bowl rather than bucket arrangement of the planets gives more self-containment and less of an intense need to convince, persuade, or influence others. In politics there has been way too much of that recently; it may recede or be less dramatic and hysterical. Rather, there is power through calmly realizing one's inner mastery of things. The keyword for Mars in high focus (which it is because the leading planet in the bowl chart) is Indomitable. Each of us may feel indomitable at least in some areas, with an accompanying self-assurance which does not fear calm self-assertion yet does not go overboard in trying to make converts or impress people. Therefore it has more power, though less showy. Further, the defining opposition in the chart (involving Mars and Uranus) is in cardinal signs so that we know just what to do in an effective outer way, rather than moaning and wondering "What should I do? This or that?" The decisiveness of this coming month should be wonderful, curing a lot of self-doubt.

Still, we will be in a Dark Hermetic Epoch. This should be a less confusing one than most of them. We will review and recover and re-estimate things, as always in such times, but without the dithering confusion which is the DHE at its worst.

That is a broad general approach to what may be coming, and I feel good about it. I would not be surprised if you have doubts, because we have been going through some horrendous soul-trying events and tangles. I am glad to predict that at least we should be much more calm and self-certain in our individual approach to making our lives and the world happier.
