And for the Fortnight, January 4-17

A snowstorm covering last weekend, and notable because of news reports of Iowans nevertheless attending events of candidates preliminary to their caucus on the 15th, coincided with the |karmic third| of the week, the 2.5 days I point out here every week, and if you watch the weather you will see that that is not unusual. Another major storm is predicted beginning Friday, and guess what? The |karmic third| will be with us beginning late Friday-early Saturday. I saw, decades ago, that this is a major reliability in the "structure of time" for humans on this planet, and have been reporting it faithfully ever since.

The New Moon of Capricorn began very early today (Thursday) and it could be revealing to take it as a prognosis of the coming week, through Wednesday the 17th. It was also effective, according to my research, during the previous week of January 4-10, for I use the midpoints of each lunar fortnight (crescent fortnight followed by gibbous fortnight) for a chart covering each entire two-week period. I offer this method to other astrologers.

Let's look at the symbols, in that chart, for Venus, Mars, and the sun, with all three of the sets of degree-symbols given out in the past two centuries by real clairvoyants:

Venus gives a warning, and she is not aspected strongly in this chart, so seems to be lost: "A person about entering a dark tunnel," says Charubel: One might "go wrong in life if there be no saving influences in operation. Unfortunate and hopeless." I see what that means for me; how about you? And Borelli-Sepharial give: "A black hole or cavern in a rock." "Futile or vacuous projects, inconstant and fruitless work; one's fortunes meager and one's position of no account." "Always open to receive benefits from others but yielding nothing of his own, he will fail of friends and fortune." However, the Sabian symbol is less pessimistic: "Seagulls watching a ship," with the keyword Alertness. It symbolizes "the spirit's demand for its full share in the privileges and rewards of human society, and the individual's realization that his personal interests are served only as he maintains an unceasing vigilance in his own behalf."

Mars in his more brutal role could be "a butcher conducting a sheep into the slaughter-house." But those who are not vegetarian or vegan have no moral ground for despising him. "A person of dangerous proclivities, unfortunate to those with whom he deals; selfish, crafty and cruel." A more refined approach to life is denoted by "A dark archway and ten logs at the bottom." There are "ramifying potentials" to be employed. "Man remains unimpeachably himself because he is able to extend himself indefinitely." The keyword is Thoroughness; all ten "logs" are needed. Perhaps that includes spiritual development, for Borelli & Sepharial give us "A heart surrounded by an aureole." Rather than being a butcher, Mars could develop "an affectionate and devoted nature, centering his affections upon a single object and continuing steadfast all his life." "There is little of guile or fear, and perfect confidence in those to whom he gives his heart" even when they disappoint him. "He will succeed where others have failed because of whole-heartedness, concentration and Devotion." 

The sun and moon are at the identical degree because this is a New Moon chart. "A relay race" sounds like the Iowa Republican caucuses which occur during this fortnight on Monday the 15th. Could Trump unwittingly and unintentionally hand over the torch to Vivek Ramaswamy? Not likely, but to me Haley and DeSantis seem even less likely to do well. What is the "relay race" in your own life? The keyword is Fitness. For what are you trying to make yourself fit, and how? "One's importance to one's fellows is one's certainty of self-continuance" says Dr. Jones. One might be relatively selfless, as the captain of "a ferryboat taking people across a wide deep stream." One could "prove of much service to others far more than to oneself" as perhaps "a guide and a teacher of the public." 

The final symbol for the lunation (sun and moon together) is rather exalted, but you may have had hints of it or may be able to live it to some degree: "An ancient hieroglyphic manuscript with a retort and crucible upon it." Perhaps this is the destination of the ferryboat. "One could essay the Magnum Opus or great work of alchemical science." Or one could be successful in commerce. At a height of attainment, one might be developing or transmuting the external body toward perfection or immortality. The keyword is Renovation.
