Around a dark pool of water in the shadow of
Dense foliage, people recurrently sit alone
In melancholy, pondering gloom or the
Turns of fate. One of them walks to the seashore

To contemplate a chest floating on the open
Ocean. It turns up here and there, island or
Peninsula, dilatory and haphazard; not weak
Yet indifferent to all but self-preservation.

A fair woman sporting herself on a couch is similarly
Free, though voluptuous and sybaritic. Indulgence
In pleasure could be a snare of ineptitude.
She is avid for sensuous experience in the kaleidoscope
\
Of personal relationships. As a human soul she discovers
Herself, receptive to growth and understanding.
