If bereft of parents or guardians one could suffer
Desolation and despair. Yet self-assertion
Could attain to considerable distinction.

A widow feels intensely her past being brought
To light. This is soul-agony, yet it rectifies failures
Through spiritual clearance as self-protection.
An enthusiast and partisan, on the contrary,

Tweets and posts and blogs, restlessly seeking
To influence, though seen as a superficial reformer.
Who is the real scholar, open to lofty inspirations,
Ambitious for knowledge, climbing a ladder of
\
Speculation toward whatever could elevate others
As well? Some studies are silly; some grand.
