\Rewinding Toward Something Real/
Moon in Capricorn
The weariness or endless repetitiveness of the Mercury Retrograde period is upon us (until February 21) and is reflected in the symbol 'a head and a hand separated from a body.' It's not as dire as all that, yet one might suspect that the 'body politic' in Washington and other places is divided in ways which make it helpless. Likewise individuals may be lacking 'coordination of thought and action.' A badly regulated life is disjective or disjunctive, yet with the caveat that in any MR period we need to review and revise things. That gives some excuse for dilly-dallying. It's best to focus on undoubted necessities and eschew rash new schemes. 'A man lying wounded or sick upon the ground' is more likely someone taking a nap. Well and good, unless it goes on so long that it amounts to apathy, ineptitude, or moral paralysis.
Some lunar aspects (trine with Mars indicating sometimes males) are reassuring to the point that one might gain 'a popularity that proves ephemeral.' The Part of Fortune in the 11th sector is good for friendship, though strained by the continuing Venus-Saturn conjunction plus an approaching square of Venus with Mars. Let's just let popularity, endorsement or repudiation, come and go. What is important is to be on the right side in 'a battle between the swords and the torches.' The swords are 'transient competitions' and the torches 'motives and meanings which give direction and order.' Without the latter the former can be disastrous. There can be resolution. 'High organizational skill' plus 'the magic of understanding' resolve any specific difficulty.
The retrospective view of the Mercury Retrograde phase is something like being in 'a ruin consisting of an ancient massive wall with an archway therein.' That archway might lead to the past, the future, or both. We are not condemned to repeat the past but can learn from it and let it guide a happier approach to the future. Also, the retrospective has its own pleasure, as in viewing movies or TV series for a second or third time, or writing a diary or memoir. 'A man in monkish dress, with long hair and flowing beard' represents something in us which is seeking for meaning and a resulting dedication to discovered values. Being severe on ourselves is better than being severe on others. Solitude can be a needed path at certain times. "The soul which can live alone with itself meets God; its lonely universe is their rendezvous.' --Sri Aurobindo
