Preview of the Coming two-month Epoch, October-November

Based on the cycles and interrelations of the sun, Mercury and earth, the next Hermetic Epoch is a Bright or Outward (more than Inward) one and it begins today, Saturday September 30. (Precisely, beginning 10:19 pm Friday PT, 1:19 am Saturday ET, and 5:19 am Saturday UT)

I can't give a complete, detailed rundown of what this new period might mean to you but here are some highlights.

I've been researching the degree-symbols in connection with the Epochs and find that the Sepharial-Borelli set correspond well, often spectacularly, with the positions of the planets at the center of each Epoch. The sun and Mercury are always in the same degree (in such charts) and that is major, but the positions of Mars and Venus also stand out.

Mars in the previous Epoch (the Dark or Inward one, August 4-September 29) was at the degree "A naked man in the act of falling from a rock into a lake." He is "susceptible and weak, liable to be drawn to peril by the agency of the opposite sex." We had plenty of "me too" incidents exposed in the tabloids and elsewhere. One of the most discussed was that of Russell Brand, who has however not been convicted of anything. "He may attain to a high position in life yet be in danger of an untimely fall. Let him take heed against the allurements of the world." The two major presidential candidates are facing legal hurdles based on supposedly bad conduct.

This played out in other than sexual and political affairs, as for example two women told me how they lost their wallets, and I know of two men who lost their phones. The "allurements" in these cases amounted merely to turning their eyes away from their precious possessions briefly.

During the new Epoch Mars is at a degree symbolized by "A great mound of earth and stones, on the summit of which there is a single flowering shrub." This indicates "carefulness in small things and attention to detail." "One's heart in his his task, and one's soul content with the simple fruits thereof." "One will build up a name for oneself by dint of patient toil, and fibe sure of due reward." 

That picture coincides well with aspects in the chart, such as Saturn in good aspect with the moon, Mars and Sol.

Venus in the previous Epoch was at the degree "A jutting rock on which some tufts of grass hold a thin but certain existence." "With firm and steadfast character one will hold resolutely to one's beliefs and principles, though that be to one's disadvantage." "Whatever he or she may determine upon as the right thing to do will assuredly be done if within the compass of resolute striving." 

Well, it sure feels that applied to myself in the August-September period. What about you? As for things being "thin," we hear that millions face heavy credit card debt, high mortgage payments, high car prices, towering student loans, and so on. But we hold on like the grass to the stone.

In the October-November period Venus occupies (in the Epoch chart) the degree "A hand with the index finger pointing upward as if in command." "A flexible nature is capable of fulfilling various positions in life. There is a generous and kind disposition and a high order of intelligence. He or she always seeks after the uses of things; ingenious and inventive, likely to succeed." 

Finally, the sun and Mercury are always together in these charts and the degrees they occupy, in past Epochs used for research, have been mostly highly meaningful. In the August-September Epoch: "A man mining in the rock with a pickaxe." "Practical and unimaginative; negationist or agnostic; a man of the people, laborious, honest and just. Hard work with little personal profit." It seems many of us might feel that that has been our fate for a while. 

I shall not say that everything will change magically, but the Sol-Mercury symbol for the new Epoch is: "A rustic cottage, overarched by a spreading cedar tree." Our nature is "attuned to works of benevolence and homely simplicity, careful in the affairs of daily life, solicitous of peace and comfort, and ever ready to shelter, befriend and succor the wayside traveler as well as those within our doors." The keyword is Benevolence.

The Full Moon occurred early this morning, and we are in the final day of a Dark Hermetic Epoch, so many may be transitioning to a more interesting phase of things. It has been rainy where I am and "a child is giving birds a drink at a fountain." There can be "transient popularity" or "the creative concern for others by which any individual comes to experience his own immortality."

"A naked man in the act of falling from a rock into a lake" is "susceptible and weak, easily drawn to peril by the agency of the opposite sex." He may "attain to a high position" but be in danger of "an untimely fall" (such as those fingered by the "me too" movement).

If instead he had gazed at "a bright pale-blue star" shining over the "clear lake" he would not have fallen into it but would have brought forth implicit "refined and well-trained intelligence." We could follow suit and be peaceful and harmonious, with good knowledge of character plus a reserve of diplomatic power, "shining like a star in our sphere of life." 

Hero-adoration, or deep respect for a spiritual or other teacher or guru-figure, has been a recurrent phenomenon of late. "The sun peeps above the horizon flooding the tops of the trees with glowing rays" to throw light on "a man---a man among men---whom Diogenes was searching for with his lantern." "Thousands will look up to him or her for light and guidance."

"A lion whose head is the only part exposed" sounds like Donald Trump, born with Leo rising and Mars therein. As I write on Wednesday he is skipping tonight's Republican debates; his body shall not be there! but his "head" may be doing other things to get attention. You may be "on the defensive" in some area of your life, "living in the consciousness of your superior strength." "He may not be the first in the arena but he will be the last to quit it." 

More pleasantly, "An old-fashioned signboard is suspended from the branch of a tree before an ancient-looking wayside inn." Just let your mind drift with that image a little to see what it may mean for you. The kindly elements of the past remain with us. In the autumn weather it would be cozy to indulge in a draft in that "wayside inn." 

Not a bartender but "a child is giving birds a drink at a fountain." The keyword is Solicitude. That could be, according to Dr. Jones, "the creative concern for others by which any individual comes to experience his own immortality."

"A bright pale-blue star shining over a clear lake" indicates "one of a quick, refined, and well-trained intelligence." He or she "will be peaceful, harmonious, and beneficent." There is "a good knowledge of character and a potent reserve of diplomatic power." (Who is going to exercise that to end the brutal Ukraine war?) "This person will shine like a star in his sphere of life and have many followers."

"A man feeling his way over a bog" is having a hard time, or feeling many delays, and that could resemble all or most of us. Again I must say, the Dark or Slow Hermetic Epoch lasts until Saturday the 30th. It seems specially difficult this time because five planets are retrograde (from earth-perspective).

'A nest of young birds over which a hawk is hovering" could be sadly descriptive of what some children go through with sex trafficking. Sepharial says there could be "injuries in his or her own house and through his or her own kindred." I do not know what such a warning might mean to you individually. We ought to make sure we do not "suffer through want of care in our actions."

"A horse with a strong farmer's cart loaded with farmyard manure" suggests perhaps "scientific agriculture," or any frugal and industrious activity. 

Moods could be "down" during the "karmically difficult third" of this week (the moon close to Saturn), yet there might be "a crowd upon the beach"---that is, "naïve assurance and a basic delight in every possible aspect of human relationship." The keyword is Exhilaration.

I hope your Dark (Slow) Hermetic Epoch (August 4-September 30) has been easier than mine. Today I talked with a neighbor who is trying to help out another neighbor with a phone problem. Meanwhile my own phone problem has not been resolved, and I have spoken with two women who lost their wallets in the past couple weeks. Biden makes gaffs and the Canadian Parliament gives a standing ovation to a WWII war criminal. Things are "out of joint." I can't say everything will get easier immediately on the 30th but I hope so. Meanwhile, the moon is void-of-course most of today so we need extra patience with "out of pattern" trends and incidents.

Today, "a man with a knife in his hand" is not dangerous but is dexterous in the use of edged tools, "capable of great achievements as an artist or engraver, or in carving or even surgery in some cases." Well, anyone need to cut those fingernails or toenails?

Continuing from yesterday, "A human face is surmounted by a coiled serpent; a raised hand also appears." Some will display "a powerful and commanding nature, with a keen understanding of the laws of life." There is intuition, foresight and diplomacy. The keyword is Penetration. 

If luck allows, one might feel like "a person being carried by four men in a sedan chair." One is a favorite of fortune, but could devolve into idleness or sloth. Nevertheless one possesses "good parts and numerous accomplishments."

The autumnal Jewish High Holy Days are with us, and one of the symbols (as yesterday) is fortuitously "A Jewish rabbi." "An individual or group may become a special channel for the aspirations of all." They keyword, Heritage, suggests that we "are able to stand on the shoulders of the giants who have gone before."

"A man wading through mud knee-deep" sounds like me at this point, with unresolved issues in my life, some of them practical or technological. How about you? I said things might get better beginning Saturday when Autumn began, and some social things have seemed better, but not practical ones. Today we may feel victim to "perished hopes and abortive speculations" yet our struggles are sure to yield something good eventually. I repeat, September 30, Saturday, begins a smoother Bright Hermetic Epoch of two months.

"A human face is surmounted by a coiled serpent; a raised hand also appears." Some will display "a powerful and commanding nature, with a keen understanding of the laws of life." There is intuition, foresight and diplomacy. The keyword is Penetration. We can climb out of the mud.

The autumnal Jewish High Holy Days are with us, and one of the symbols is fortuitously "A Jewish rabbi." "An individual or group may become a special channel for the aspirations of all." Spiritual integrity plus aspiration result in magic. "A long pole is suspended horizontally in mid-air; a rope attached to each end is connected with the earth." The sun has entered Libra today, the first month of the autumn season (until it enters Scorpio on October 23). Using a chart set up for that ingress, I believe we shall have a smoother time of it than we did in the month of Virgo, although we remain in a Dark Epoch until September 30, a week from now, and five planets remain retrograde, which can slow things down.

Symbols for the day are partly warnings, as: "A man with a drawn sword," keyword: Wounding. Many could be martial or quarrelsome. One ought to be aware of the feelings and prejudices of others to reduce impetuous affronts. 

Yesterday and today "a man is running in the face of a strong wind, making little headway." This could be tendencies of which you are least proud, indulged obstinately. To avoid embarrassment one should be more humble in the face of others' opinions (the "wind"). Since Mercury is moving in its Dark cycle for another week, there could also be technological issues slowing us down.

"Two men placed under arrest" does not have to be literal but can mean we notice how people are stymied or held back by their karma. Their impulses and acts have been inappropriate and they suffer the consequences. 

Yet there is divine grace and protection. "A naked infant, exposed and sleeping alone in an open, dreary place, seems threatened by wild animals. But by some strange power unseen this embodied picture of innocence is protected." Cruelties we have suffered in the past are not repeated. "No weapon formed against him shall prosper."

"A man standing, resting lightly on the end of his bow, with a quiver full of arrows on his back" is ourselves fit and ready for a promising month of Libra. As the ancient Hebrews seemed to know, it is more the "beginning" of the social-political year than Spring, it seems. We can be quick observers, designers; prompt and skillful executants--"capable of grand achievements."

Not all are above-board, however. There is "a gang of robbers in hiding." Socialists or capitalists? That depends on your world-view; to me it seems a mélange of both. Glenn Greenwald points out their machinations on every one of his shows, System Update (Rumble, Spotify, etc.). "Every person has a disturbing capacity for antisocial or even self-perverted practices" and so there is need for "initiative and a more challenging perspective" so that one does not diverge too far from the straight and narrow. 

At the other extreme is "a man in the garb of a doctor of the monastic order (misericordia)." He may be "predisposed to religious mania" but has a high order of intellect. He is melancholic yet kindly and humane. The keyword is Searching.

"A crescent moon joined to a shining star" indicates "association with those of high rank or merit." There is imagination, versatility and intuition. One can gain success through connections. The keyword is Distinction.

It seems to me that not only I but many others, even most, are going through a hard time, and I've been saying that either Saturday (tomorrow) or September 30 (another week) could be the beginning of a smoother time. We shall see.

Meanwhile, let's not get spooked by some warning symbols for today: "A man running in the face of a strong wind, making little headway; his garments fly in tatters behind him." Well, if you have a serious mission requiring you to go against prevailing trends, okay; otherwise, fighting the wind could be futile.

"A man standing with his head shrouded in black cloth" is scholarly, melancholic and eccentric. He seeks for secret things, and is fond of "midnight studies"; a recluse. This is fine unless he or she should submit to obscuration, chaos and confusion.

Are you happy with either one of the so-far major Presidential contenders? Many are rejecting both, and both have legal troubles. "Two men placed under arrest" have to find a better sense of responsibility within themselves. Otherwise they face inevitable consequences.

The square of eight is represented by "8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8". There is a love of the mystical, and profound understanding could emerge.
