In a large field of grain are many reapers
But few sheaves. Adequate results elude one whose
Motives are good and aspirations high.
In the woods there remains winter frost canceling
/
Most man-friendly interests by the splendor
Of new natural cycles supreme over human
Convenience. Nevertheless, inside a man sits
At a table carving a sumptuous feast provided by
/
That same Nature a few months before.
An epicurean, he is harmless though overly
Fond of the things of the world. Fortune smiles
On him as also on a fair woman
/
Richly attired, standing alone, loving
Luxury, whose goodness of heart attracts friends.
