Since 1865 the slaves driven in manacles
Have been freed from obvious tyranny.
There remains unfairness fought by moral pugilists
Who enter the ring of multi-racial life.

A fox running along a path beneath the shadow
Of a wall is wily, avoiding danger.
A human solving conundrums patiently traces
Threads of a labyrinth hanging from the heavens.

A summer day! A fruited vine hangs on a wall.
Its keeper marries well, with strong attachments
And plenty of good things. A tree in a field of rich
Grass is circled by fortune-granting bees.

Freedom is a beginning, Nature’s largesse a continuance,
Husbandry a fulfillment of burgeoning aspiration.
