His friends see through his clever impositions,
Large-hearted enough to take them as entertainment.

It’s easy to get stuck in the pointless, like a white oval
On a black background, open to the negative and harmful.
Or one could take a green path, Oz’s emerald goggles
Showing all on the move, restless, far from any goal.

A Native American stands on a lonely plain weeping,
Destitute of moral courage, given to despondency.
But she remembers the blanket she was weaving and takes up
The art again, diligent in quiet persistence.

When the world gives no encouragement, our days
Are what we make them. Green’s better than winter.
