A centaur, half man, half horse, rests upon
A rock with tufts of grass struggling to grow,
Then, restless, trots to a volcano starting
To erupt. He aims an arrow toward it for no reason.
A professor, peering over his glasses, has specialized
Beyond reason so that he has to peek
Around corners to know humanity.
He seeks a cushy government sinecure.
A shepherd, ancient-looking, holds his crook in hand
Upon the mountain where his flock is gathered. Above
The door of his hut rises a large white cross.
It's almost time to cut the grapes in the vineyard.
Explosion, smoke and fire obscure for now
The abundant harvest destined for the upright.
