Challenge: Mysterious factors are connected with international issues and are hard to get a handle on. 'A woman holds a bundle of faggots, her hair loose and disordered by the wind. She wanders in search of something.' People are versatile but eccentric, trying to do more than they can within available time, vexed and troubled. Such confusion can accompany a brilliant intellect. At the emotional level, there is 'a woman seated in an attitude of grief, her clothes disordered and hair unkempt, holding faded flowers in her hands, among them lilies and roses.' This is said to involve fateful inclinations toward the opposite sex or accompanying disgrace, or in more modern terms just connections or relationships which are easily spoiled or temporarily uncomfortable.
Process: The softer aspects, three close trines, fit with 'contentment and happiness in luxury, people reading on davenports.' There is a desire for information culled from almost-inaccessible sources, or put together with a lot of mental gymnastics. Neptune square Mercury while the latter is retrograde suggests digging for difficult facts and truths, putting things together intuitively and then testing the validity of one's conclusions. This is represented by a peculiar symbol, 'a deep shaft descending into the earth, and right overhead a balloon.' This suggests measuring things scientifically. Or it could be an incomplete-information-cocktail, such as we drink served by the very confused and dishonest mass media.
Blessing: The opposition between Mars and Pluto is at its most exact today and tomorrow. It is strife and forcefulness, as if someone insists on imposing his or her obsessions (Pluto) on everyone, 'a man all bundled up in fur leading a shaggy deer.' That could be Steve Bannon, for example, or others on the opposite side of the political spectrum (though I cannot think of a single one). Some are pioneers and trail-blazers. The 'shaggy deer' is anyone willing to accept their indomitable self-reliance and insistent determination. There is a challenge ahead. When there is greater calm, we may be like 'two Dutch children talking,' for we can rely on 'common elements of background and skill' to share our 'childlike or unconditioned familiarity' with one another. When we accept the consensus milieu, there is a chance for clarification of all matters, quite apart from the infinite regression which is set up when one tries to include too many relevant factors in one's thinking.
