|Karmically difficult or sobering third| of this week ends at 0:13a PT | 3:13a ET | 8:13a UT ** /

until it enters Libra at 2:35p PT | 5:35p ET | 10:35p UT ***
I have been feeling very heavy all day on Thursday. In terms of current events, this has to do with the shooting in San Bernardino and the horrid senselessness of it. I have lived though a lot of such incidents, as all of us have, that is in terms of hearing and reading about them in the news, but this one makes me feel almost ill. I am not sure why, and so I look to the current aspects and find that Saturn's square with Neptune is exact within one degree, and the fact that it is "fading" does not alter its presence. In fact, here is a chance to say something to fellow astrologers who read this--I have found over the years that current aspects do not necessarily weaken or lessen in their effects when they are diminishing. Sometimes the harshest incidents related to a hard aspect will come when it is separating by several degrees but still in effect. One might compare this to burning one's finger: The pain may actually be worse a half hour or hour later than at the time of the burn. An inadequate analogy, but I have noted this. The sun's conjunction with Saturn is equally important and that is separating by four degrees, but still very much with us; it was within three degrees at the time of the killings. These are both depressing aspects, and of course the sun is also square Neptune. Sagittarius is a sign of religion and we find that there may be a religious motive in the killings. Reports about those killed in the New York Times emphasize the church activities of many of them. Local pastors were at the scene after the incident praying and trying to comfort. The Muslim community is trying to affirm its independence of the fact that the killers were apparently of their faith. We are seeing, as I predicted here months ago when Saturn entered Sagittarius, a difficult awakening to the meaning of our religions and our way of living our respective faiths or beliefs or theological understandings.
Further, of course, we are in the |difficult third| of this week, as we were Wednesday, and that does not make for merry moods.
Mars, often the culprit in acts of violence, is forming (applying to) a square with Pluto by three degrees and an opposition with Uranus by five degrees (at the time of the killings). That has not changed as of today and is with us Friday also. It is a "normal" aspect and does not mean that all of us will face violence but it could be responsible for underlying moods of anger or resentment which are subconscious in us and affect our moods, making us feel depressed even though we don't know it is suppressed anger we are feeling. This is a chance to face our demons in the form of disappointments which pain us and which we are blaming on someone other than ourselves, or the world, or G*d. Since Mars is in Libra, sign of justice, we feel what seems unfairness and find it hard to see the hidden karmic justice behind it or the lesson we are supposed to learn from it.
A brighter side: Since Mars and Venus are both in Libra, a sign ruled by Venus, Venus is "ruling" Mars in a peculiar sense (the killers happened to be not all male this time but a married couple, for example) and this comes out almost humorously in the fact that as of Thursday an executive order puts women on the front lines in the military, decreeing that they are able to do any job a man does.
'All U.S. military combat positions are being opened up to women, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced Thursday. The decision allows women to fill about 220,000 jobs that are now limited to men -- including infantry, armor, reconnaissance and some special operations units. "This means that as long as they qualify and meet the standards, women will now be able to contribute to our mission in ways they could not before. They'll be able to drive tanks, give orders, lead infantry soldiers into combat," Carter said at a news conference Thursday.'--CNN
So Venus is "ruling" the military, that is, Venus in her own sign "rules" Mars because he is within her domain! That is classical astrology. Fascinating.
As for Friday: The |difficult third| is gone but Luna is v-of-c (times above) until evening. I would guess that means "loose ends" on a Friday when people are slacking off from their work or doing only bare necessities. Then, when Luna enters Libra, fun-time! Or let us hope so. Uranus is strong in the chart but he forms trines with the sun and Mercury so if we tune in to those rather than his opposition with Mars we will find ourselves experiencing well-founded freedom. Venus is forming nice aspects: Trine with Neptune, sextile with Mercury, and nonagens with both Saturn and Jupiter. These last are pleasant and helpful when within two degrees.
I don't like to promise too much but I believe we will be feeling the Christmas spirit, and at least could tune in to it if we give it a good shot.
