Let's be happy! Let's find our deep spiritual selves, and live in them and from them to conquer the world of often-disappointing illusions, bringing it closer to the heart's desire.

Whatever will give you inspiration to do that is your friend at this point.

The astrological set-up in and of itself is not very encouraging, unless we turn it to its best. Five retrograde planets including Venus suggest a somewhat backward or weary or shilly-shallying trend something like the Mercury retrograde period, but not as bad in my view. We have already discussed the now-very-close squares of both Jupiter and Venus with Saturn, in great detail. They bring out difficulties and, as a friend said to me today, we need a great deal of patience. He spoke of patience as one of the spiritual gifts we need to incorporate in ourselves. I agree, and you might want to review what I said in Thursday's long report.

Mars trine Saturn is helpful, making us willing to keep on keeping on, harmonizing our activities with reality, being sensible, doing what simply needs to be done without complaining. Since it has to be done, enjoy it, would be the advice and encouragement of this aspect.

Mercury trine Uranus shows a path to mental freedom, an ability to seize upon anything and everything as means of enlightenment. Surprising and uplifting insights come to you. While doing work you perceive things which make the work more liberating than it would be otherwise. 

The more we can sense the will of Deity (Neptune is prominent in the daily chart) the more smoothly we can flow with that will, which is the only way to be happy.  It is not necessary to state it in words if we can feel it as a momentum toward greater happiness, peace, and fulfillment for others as well as ourselves. If it takes a long time, let's enjoy that long process of getting to where we want to be as if every second of it brought it closer, as in fact it does.

The current reactions of the human race to the current astrological aspects are encouraging. I find that people are demonstrating an amazing amount of "grace under pressure."

It is always hard to make clear what all this means. I do not believe the planets are mechanical agencies putting pressures or difficulties on us. That would mean we are parts of a machine. Not at all. But almost no one has the philosophical sophistication to comprehend what astrological aspects mean or how or why they work. How many have read or have even a remote understanding of the philosophies of Leibniz or Malebranche? Include also George Berkeley and other idealist philosophers, including Schelling and Hegel. Yet it seems to me that such understanding is essential to comprehend why we can experience the motions of the planets the way we do. G*d set it all up, of course--who else? But it is not a meaningless machine, rather the instrument and agent of a conscious G*d who loves His creation. What we feel as difficulties, such as Venus square Saturn, are merely something like what a child feels when it is told it cannot eat a third ice cream cone or play in the yard past midnight. We feel of course that sometimes it is far worse than that. "Do your homework before you watch TV." Then we have to invoke things like karma, either from this or a past life, of which the planets can be agents. Not punishment but teaching.

Without an understanding that G*d and the universe are conscious, more conscious than we are in some sense, it is impossible to sense how astrology could be real. That is why materialists cannot fathom it but dismiss it out of hand.

It is all design--amazingly complex, wonderful, miraculous design. That is why I call the Facebook page on which these predictions appear The Matrix Celestial.

I had to say all this because in pondering the difficulties of Venus plus Jupiter square Saturn, continuing till August 22, I see there is no way to "get it" other than to know that it is a process in soul-evolution. Each one of us, in a different but similar way, is going through this process of "correction" now. As the child who is told it has to do its homework before entertainment. We don't like it but somehow we can sense that it is essential, and then we stop complaining. 

I think it's amazing, in general, how well people are doing this. I was out and about this afternoon and felt that while people are not ecstatic, and are not in a thrilling party mode, they are soberly getting on with their lives, in most cases, with a rather stoic and peaceful attitude. 

The Jupiter-Saturn square is known as a deeply profound and soulful phase of things. Marc Edmund Jones explains it as a "hard karma" aspect which requires much of the person who has it in his birth-chart. Now, when the whole world is experiencing it, everyone's karma is catching up with him or her. We are being tough on ourselves and we have to be in order to get through this in a way which makes us feel good about ourselves. 

In Jones's words, the "native" or person who has this in his horoscope "usually suffers very immediate consequences of even the least neglect or abuse of his own potentials. He finds he must fight continually for the ideals in which has has come to take the most consistent interest, and also learns that his conscious well-being is wholly dependent on the moral struggles in which he becomes involved almost inevitably at every stage of his experience. If he does not relish the days in which he seems torn to pieces in self-uncertainty, he must discover ways to tear himself apart deliberately . . . on the behalf of some cause of real significance or some conception that he can dramatize through his own being. Personal existence under this configuration can become either great opportunity or else a gradual disintegration of the soul in the very core of itself." Jones does not mince words. This may seem a rather extreme warning, but I think Dr. Jones was doing his best to warn people against terrible things which could happen under this configuration unless they brought their souls forward as the heroes or heroines of their lives. 

Okay, so let's do it.

That helped me get out something that has been brewing in me about this period but find it very hard to elucidate. When we feel depressed, we need to keep rising to our soul's challenges and try to be the best we can be, especially in the ethical sense, or as living for other people as well as ourselves. No it is not easy but, as Jones suggests, the alternative is far worse.

I do not want to keep on giving that lecture-sermon but maybe I will have to do it to be honest with myself and you. The Jupiter square Saturn aspect continues through October 1 (the Venus square through August 21). Here is an example of how it is working in one life: A dear friend has been going through serious, intense addiction to both nicotine and alcohol and knows he has to do something about it. He feels desperate. Today he told me that he intends to go into a serious detoxification program in a week or two. That would be wonderful, as perhaps the best way for him to conquer this "enemy"--and perhaps he will be doing that right through the intensity of the aspect for the next couple of months. 

Whatever your personal habits or weaknesses, you can do the same. I am trying to get certain lax portions of my daily life in a shape that I can respect more fully. I don't like Jones's language but sometimes indeed it does feel like "tearing myself apart" to rise to the challenge, especially when it comes to cooperating with other people when my lazy egoistic self resists.

Thursday does not have major changes. We continue toward a Full Moon early Friday morning. This is heightened consciousness. Problems and issues of friends seem important and probably should not be avoided. Let's be patient with ourselves and one another and pull together as best we can.

Conditions are not horrible but we have to keep focused on our own individual plans to avoid catastrophe. In addition, it is important at all times to keep up a link with the human race through a relationship, friendship, or loyalty to groups and attendance at their meetings. That keeps us human rather than monstrously egoistic. 

That is hard at this point, because the indications are that we would rather luxuriate in our own personal preferences and entertainments. It is important that we reach beyond that point to care about our friends, or even about those who are in more impersonal groups we have found helpful to us. We need to keep expanding beyond our personal preferences, if we want to remain human and hopefully divine. 

There is a stress of striving for perfection, in work or in an agenda you are forcing yourself to adhere to in order to perfect your living. This is work which sharpens and increases your powers. 

Our status in the eyes of the world is important to us. We need to keep focusing on the effort or work which would bring us that status or prestige, rather than moaning about the fact that we don't have it yet.

Persistence is important, rather than wilting into inefficacy.

Note on last Friday: As reported here, the moon was in the Via Combusta all day. If you watch that every month (it happens once every 27 days or so for about 2.3 days) you will begin to see what it can mean for you. It is not always a disastrous time but it is dangerous in hidden ways. On that day the two boys in Florida set out on their disastrous fishing trip, in the afternoon. Then the |difficult third of that week| was added to the mix, at 8:34 p.m. Eastern Time. The moon was in the Scorpio half of the Via Combusta, a water sign and traditionally the sign of "death" but also of better possibilities. Here is what happened:

The boys were last seen Friday afternoon buying $110 worth of fuel near Jupiter (Florida). Officials said they departed around 1:30 p.m. Weather reports for Friday say storms reached the Jupiter-Tequesta area around 4 p.m., and thunderstorms with heavy rains were expected there until sunset.

8:34 p.m. was about fifteen minutes after the sunset at 8:09 in that area. I hope the boys somehow survived or found a refuge somehow but of course things do not look good at this point. I mention this because I have a feeling most readers kind of shrug their shoulders at the Via Combusta times and the |difficult third| times given here. They are real. You can cut them with a knife. They are solid. That is why I report them.

^Alchemy of Patience and Hope^

Four stars is a stretch. When you read the following you will see why. But Luna is in process of forming a grand trine in fire signs today and that should be a relief from the weekend's pallor. It might be a good day to attend to business. There can be optimism and probably material cooperation, maybe more than any day this week, hence the four stars as encouragement. 

I hope I am making some insights about this summer clear to some of you.

A. We are in the Bright Hermetic Epoch until August 28, so it is relatively easy to proceed with plan-making, plan-implementation, and clear insight into strategies and methods. In fact you may have excellent intuition and intelligent estimation of many things and should go ahead and implement them as much as you can. 

But B. Jupiter and Venus both squaring Saturn during the same time-frame make the emotional tone rather dull or boorish or lovelorn. It is not that there is no love but that love is somewhat shy, underground, or undemonstrative. So we have to learn to get along on our own without too much emotional support from anyone. Or if you are getting that support from someone, then he or she is a true friend. If not, you can realize that others are going through the same thing, feeling "not in the mood for love" or for overt friendliness, and adjust accordingly.

The result of A. and B. is that those who can think and act without too much emotional involvement with what they are doing are the ones who will "succeed" or get favorable results. "I love you but don't bother me" is not a nice thing to say but it might be what "successful" ones are feeling. Whereas some "unsuccessful" ones will be feeling "Oh I am lost because my friend or lover is gone or indifferent, what can I do, there is no use trying to do anything." That would not be smart. We need to be "on our own" as much as we can at least emotionally. As for business cooperation, it could be there but perhaps not as enthusiastic as one would hope. Patience is a key. Peacefulness and an ability to keep trying without fretting is another key. 

Another way to put it is that the more one can resist relying too much on superficial visible cooperation during this period, and rely instead on Invisible cooperation, the better one will be able to keep one's balance and get things in motion favorably.

We are going to have to learn to work with the aspects which are here and not the ones we wish were here. I believe that many people, myself included, are learning how to work with the long-lasting Venus square Saturn. The former turned retrograde Saturday, while still in its square position with Saturn and is in fact moving back to the exactness of the square the first week of August. But while it is not a pleasant or thrilling aspect, I think that people are subconsciously realizing they need to be more alone and more peaceful. "It's just me and God and the world, what else, I just have to do what I can and remain calm." That is not a bad attitude and many are adopting it now without thinking much about it (they certainly don't know about Venus and Saturn). I have noted that it is a very quiet summer. People don't expect a lot except comfort and peace. Even the very noisy children in my neighborhood are much quieter than usual, almost silent today.

^Self-Fulfilling Sacrifice^

To speak in big generalities, things look better today than Saturday. Optimism is increasing. 

Study and finance get harmonious support.

Relationships are murky. Maybe you don't understand each other, or maybe you don't even want to make the effort to try at this point--you just want to give each other "space." That is probably just fine.

I have noticed how karma from the past is affecting us, keeping us alert to whatever in our past lives is still a factor which limits us, so that we can rise beyond it or conquer wrong tendencies by becoming aware of them.

For example, yesterday I spent a long time reading about and pondering the current intense emotions people in China and Korea are feeling toward Japan, which humiliated and hurt them terribly before and during World War II. This might seem like "old stuff" but it has a current heavy impact on the relations among these nations and also on US relations to each of them. Problems arise from the current attitude of the Japanese head of state, Abe, who refuses to make any further apologies for Japanese atrocities at that time and is seen as a nationalist trying to vamp up Japan's military. This is "heavy karma" stemming from wrong-doing of an obvious sort--for example, the thousands of women from South Korea inducted into being "sex slaves" for the Japanese during WWII. In my own life and your own life we may detect similar wrongs from our pasts which we need to reconsider and know how to face or rectify them. 

The TV series "Rectify", by  the way, is excellent, one of the best series I have ever seen. It is entertaining as well as very thoughtful, ethical, and profound. 

Saturday night, deciding not to go out and waste money at an astrologically unpropitious time, I stayed home and watched a couple of TV shows on Netflix. Both involved the nobility of sacrifice. I was surprised at how intense and actually profound they were. It seems that "sacrifice" of our own desires for the sake of someone else is a trend of the current time. (Even when we choose what to watch as entertainment, we choose according to the current astrological trends, whether we know that or not. I did not know at all, but so it was.) As I have said repeatedly, the sacrificial trend is Venus and Jupiter both square Saturn. It will be with us until August 22. As Sri Aurobindo has said (and Jesus also for those who know how to read the Gospels, not very many), the Supreme Lord himself is the Lord of the Sacrifice and our sacrifice must be to Him or Her primarily, not to a human being except secondarily. That may sound hard to understand but not so in practice if one is sincere. Yet in the TV series, of course it was not G*d but a human being who was the recipient of the sacrifice, in one case the young son  of a boxer who sacrificed his life for the sake of his son. (The Netflix-Marvel series "Daredevil.")

We are part of something larger than ourselves. It is not easy to transcend the limited ego which wants just what it wants regardless of anyone else. I don't think I really do it very often, although I try. Fortunately it does not always require a sacrifice which diminishes us or causes loss for us, but a sacrifice of our triviality for the sake of someone or some cause we believe in which fulfills us more than if we had held back.

Let's do the best we can with this one. Moon with Saturn in Scorpio both squared to Jupiter and Venus in Leo-Virgo is not my idea of a good time. People are absent or missing, or don't care to make the effort to get together even if they are thinking of each other. 

You may think about dead people. No one is really dead.

Those who care about philosophy or philosophical ideas have their work cut out for them. 

Young people may seem intriguing but impossible. They are creating their own strange worlds, which may appear to someone on the outside as hells rather than heavens. 

Differences of viewpoint, perspective, and opinion are pervasive. Higher philosophy, as in Hegel, is concerned with reconciling varied viewpoints or showing how they are necessary to each other in some overarching cosmic framework, an immediate dialectical outworking of absolute Spirit.

Good things could happen with publishing, reading, study, books or ebooks. 

Knowledge is on the rise and successful in your career area. Women of power or influence may be supportive. A drive toward financial fulfillment is also a drive toward expressing creativity. One wants to do something totally one's own and be secure in doing it.

Although Venus and Jupiter square Saturn make us wary, your personal feelings are not totally incompatible with others' feelings, thanks to a grand trine in water signs including the moon in Scorpio. There can be a subtle undercurrent of attraction to strong or charismatic individuals.

Even if money losses and gains are evenly balanced, you are likely to feel good about your prospects.A contest between home and gadding about may find home winning, or else a "home away from home."

P. S. If you review the quatrains at the end of the day, you may be surprised how they reflect events in your life or others' lives. For example, in Thursday's forecast I wrote, on Wednesday evening:

A man with a cardboard dagger looks pretty scary. He stabs at
All who seem like a threat. He is noticed but not respected.

And then on Thursday I saw this in USA today:

Two teenage boys were taken into custody early Thursday after running from the back door of a house in eastern Oklahoma where five of their relatives were found stabbed to death, according to police.

Was that not a direct hit? Except, unfortunately, for the cardboard. 

You will find many more of these correspondences if you look carefully day after day. I will not mention some of the personal ones which made sense to me in my life in the other quatrains for Thursday, but they are there most days, and maybe every day if I were to look more carefully and reflect more fully. The 19th and 20th century clairvoyants from whom I get these symbols knew what they were doing, and their visions seem timeless. Fortunately, the violent ones are usually symbolic, for most of us, but not for the victims of that particular real stabbing.

The above tells a story of possible confusion which feels like Mercury Retrograde, although we are in the center of the Bright Mercurial or Hermetic Epoch. So we need to remember our deeper, more essential goals and purposes and hold to them rather than get lost in the confusion.

Mercury is exactly united with the sun, in appearance, in the morning, both newly in the sign Leo, sign of the sun! We may be getting insight into our purposes, plans, and specific workable and fortunate agendas, so it is well to be alert to that and write down the insights we get (anytime in the day or evening but maybe specially before the void-of-course period begins). 

These are times when those with religious faith might feel they are losing it (Venus and Jupiter square Saturn, Mars square Uranus), unless they remember the many previous occasions when they have realized the love of the Highest manifesting in their lives. We must not forget that "His love endureth forever." 

Amid the hard aspects, Luna forms sextiles with both Jupiter and Venus, so we may have some relief from our worries through spiritual friends, our career plans and studies, and possible financial gains or the promise of them. Yet there is an undercurrent of worry we need to mitigate through hope based on something stronger than hope itself, based on spiritual realization, or on the child's simplistic trust which can move mountains.

I don't want to be morose, but there are challenges today. Using our spiritual strength and our submission to the will of the Highest will get us through. Depending too much on our own limited thinking or presuppositions might seem to go nowhere.

In other words, perceiving the obstacles to our hopes is important in overcoming those obstacles, and doing that is facilitated by a reverent attitude to the One greater than ourselves and greater than the obstacles. 

Mercury conjoining the sun, gradually, exact on Thursday, marks the center of this Bright Hermetic Epoch (June 27 through August 27). I repeat: It is good to think about your long-range plans and what you have learned about them in the past few weeks. You may be at a plateau of certainty or clear realization of how to proceed with your practical affairs. (This could apply to more internal or spiritual matters also.) 

The day's lunar aspects may make you doubt the above paragraph. Yet something deeper in you can sense how to persist past temporary clouds of doubt or confusion.

(It comes to 52,560.) Now I write a daily forecast for all twelve signs, which is much better from my viewpoint. We are living on the same planet and our interests and needs coincide in amazing ways. We are just not aware of it as much as we could be.

Here is an example:  This morning I contemplated the daily chart for Monday 20 July 2015, which was the morning on which I was contemplating it, conveniently enough. It showed the moon in Virgo sextile Saturn in Scorpio, which is semisquare by less than one degree Pluto in Capricorn in the 8th field by one system and the third by another and the 12th by another. That might suggest peculiar plumbing problems. The Cancer planets trine Saturn in Scorpio, the sign of plumbing, suggested some interest in that technology. Venus in Virgo, sign of work, workers and problems, square Saturn in Scorpio, sign of plumbing, suggested something messed up with plumbing. Five of the ten planets I use are in water signs, a preponderance in water, suggested something involving water at least indirectly. 

What happened was: Our building superintendent informed us that because the pipes sending our outgoing water were defective, in order to prevent that output going into Puget Sound we hopefully would curtail our showers, flushing of toilets, and other use of water down the drain for a whole day while the problem was being fixed. 

I wondered to myself how many other people in the world were suffering similar problems. Then late in the afternoon I got an unexpected confirmation from Charms, one of our readers who commented as follows:  "Been a bizarre and expensive Monday....  repairs expected, and then the hot water heater LITERALLY blew up, and now no power to heat the NEW hot water heater." And then she added:  "But....my chart life ,it seems,  continually challenged by Cancer people and things (water and water related)!"

Thank you, Charms, for this confirmation of what I had suspected, that I was not the only one experiencing strange "water problems" on Monday.

Then I went to my regular Monday evening prayer group (wonderful people) and one of the members who had been to visit his family (families are ruled, generically, by the sign Cancer) on the weekend showed me a video he had taken of a waterfall. After that, at one point heavy dripping was going on on the balcony, and the condo's owner said it was just water dripping down from someone's plants on the balcony above. Not a major water problem but an interesting confirmation of the daily chart. (That had never before happened at any of our weekly meetings.) 

Something I have not yet mentioned, though I have thought of it often: The horrid beheadings performed by IS or ISIS or ISIL happened while Uranus in Aries, sign of the head, was square Pluto in Capricorn by less than three degrees. Since that aspect has loosened (it is now still there but by a looser seven degree orb) there have been no more of those beheadings. Thank Heaven literally and figuratively. I suggested here, at the time they were happening, that that aspect was the "formal cause" behind them--although of course they DID NOT have to happen, the universe and its Lord are not that cruel--but human beings, when they confront a "formal cause" like this one sometimes go berserk and manifest it in a criminal manner. That is not the responsibility of the planets but of those who do not know how to respond to their positions and "influences" if we may use such a word. To me, they are not physical but metaphysical "influences" or they are Cosmic Synchronicity, beyond the understanding of the narrow rationalistic intelligence we have devised for dealing with superficial (though useful) technologies. Astrology is a higher Overmental technology, if you will. If you won't, I don't have time right now to argue with you.

On Tuesday we might feel we are trying to keep going something which was desirable on Monday but seems to be slipping away. I would say, Keep your faith and your hope alive. The "dark side" of what you are trying to accomplish may seem, temporarily, more real than the bright side. But that is an illusion. 

Someone at a distance who is strong and good for you may have a positive influence on your finances, directly or indirectly. There is suspicion, yet potentials work out through accepting the challenge he or she presents. So the suspicion is the dark side, the challenge on the bright side, and your acceptance of the challenge, rising up to meet it, the desirable outcome. 

Venus and Jupiter both squaring Saturn remain a major matter. We have considered that at length, so I do not repeat it every day. But it could help to remember that there is a tendency to feel lovelorn, or friendless, or cut off from someone you love, or maybe just to feel indifferent--"who needs him, who needs her". But maybe you do! Yet feeling the need and trying to fill it could be the opposite of what would really work. You may need to hope and pray for the welfare and happiness of that one who seems to be absent from you or to be following a path you don't entirely approve. "Hands off" could be your motto--you cannot grasp or hold him or her, you can only hope and pray for something better in his or her life. Love conquers all, but while Venus squares Saturn, the victories are invisible.

I keep wanting to say something exciting!

It does not look like an exciting time; rather, a reassuring one if you focus on what is essential to you.

Yesterday's forecast (Sunday) remains valid. Business is important and you may be at a peak of understanding and performance in your skill-area. 

We are near the very center of the Bright Hermetic Epoch, while Mercury moves closer and closer to the sun each day. I leave to classical astrologers the lore that when a planet is close to the sun it loses power. I have not noticed that in the daily happenings I have been studying for decades. 

Rather, I believe that Mercury gains power as it nears the sun at this center of its Epoch. You can figure out what you are doing and how to do it. Usually I have said, at these times, "Write down your plans, insights, clear thinking, and discoveries. They will probably be close to accurate and maybe the best you are going to get for a few months." But that does not mean, of course, that you cannot make further discoveries, or improve the ones you have made, during the rest of the Bright Epoch (until August 29).

This Monday looks like a day to soar, when it comes to security, solidity of planning and arranging things, or being a professional in your special area. You are "getting it." There is no murkiness but crystal-clear realistic insight into how to proceed. You can "get it done."
