Message for Week of Saturday 7 March through Friday 13 March

Week of Saturday 7 March through Friday 13 March

~Emanation~

I will not pretend that I can predict when the stock market shall start surging upward.  (I hope it's this week, but would feel more sure about the following week, March 14-20.)  I won't pretend I know when the coronavirus epidemic will be ended; it seems to keep on through this week anyway, from what I can deduce from the weekly chart.  We are fortunate that it is hitting so few, relatively speaking (100 thousand ill and only 14 percent of them dying is almost nothing in the world population; probably many more die from car accidents in a month).  Anyway we look to the medical profession for answers about this, or to Christian Scientists if that is our chosen therapy, rather than to astrologers.  However, it makes perfect sense that an epidemic like this, upsetting everyone's plans in a big or little way, would happen while Mercury is retrograde.  The worst things happen then.  Mercury has a big connection with health, since it rules Virgo the major health-and-therapy sign (even the actor in Hart of Dixie, a doctor, was Virgo by sun-sign, Rachel Bilson), and Mercury also rules Gemini the sign of the lungs.  Enough said.  When Hermes is retrograde he is a trickster, not always malevolent but seemingly so in this case.  Cure?  On hold.  Treatment?  Confusing.  Stay home or go out?  A gamble.  And so on. The uncertainty of any Mercury-retrograde period seems heightened in an annoying manner by this virus.

Add to that the square between Venus and Saturn (February 22 through March 12), because this has been for decades another "big bugaboo" aspect for me.  Whenever it comes I find myself depressed or withdrawn.  As I get older, it tends to be withdrawal rather than depression because I don't expect as much from people.  Younger (and older) ones tend to have their break-ups then, and moon about lost love.  And what do we have during the "pandemic":  Recommended "social distancing" as I just read in a commentary!  Social (Venus) distancing (Saturn) is a perfect description of one side of the Venus-Saturn syndrome.  In this case, it comes from fear of contact in a physical sense rather than an emotional one.  But the results are similar.  Thank heaven for the huge benefits of the internet, wherein no germs are transmitted.

But even there, I felt today like "distancing" myself from you readers.  No offense, it just felt wearisome to carry on.  Now that I have started writing . . .

Let me repeat from last week's forecast:  "And so when does it get easier?  I would say, "on our next Friday the 13th," because beginning March 13 a lot of things look better. Mercury will have turned direct (though the Dark or Slow Epoch remains), the square of Venus with Saturn will have passed, and Venus will be beginning a long-term trine with Mars (continuing through April and into the first week of May).  You might want to make that a day of celebration, or if the Friday-13 thing worries you, have the party on the 14th."

Excuse me for quoting last week's report, because REtrograde times make for more REpeating in a natural way; we are mulling over things and trying to make sense of them, more than we do in the fast-forward times.  Here is more, but before you read it think about the fact that during this past week Joe Biden became the consensus candidate for the Democrats.  He is from the past, he was VP for 8 years, he is in people's memory banks, and he is seemingly being accepted while his competitors with more recent credentials are being rejected.  That is Mercury Retrograde.  It does not mean the voters are wrong, just that "going back to the past" is natural, and often good, at these times.  It is also Venus square Saturn, for as I said in last week's report:  "It's like this:  You feel intensely the failures, lacks, crudenesses or peculiarities of the loved one.  'Not that again.'  [e.g. Biden's stammering]  But the more you ponder the situation, the more you realize that this person you have taken on as a friend, lover or partner is 'just the best there is at this point.' And that 'point' may go on for years!"  This fits exactly the Democrats' current "love affair" (sigh) with Mr. Biden.  They are not exactly enthusiastic but he is there.

In sum, though I see both health and money matters still stagnant, stymied, slow or disappointing this week, they are on the mend and by Friday the 13th perhaps we will sense that we are "over the hump."  I hope so.  Yet it is certainly not a time to throw caution to the winds.  As mentioned last week, "throwing in the towel" is a danger, giving up, dropping a project, job, or relationship.  No, don't trust your lazy impulse to do that.  You can slow down a little, take more breaks than usual, find a way to make it easier, but not give up or you may regret that before very long.

Let's look at some of the Sabian symbols for the coming week.  First, one from last week:  "An automobile wrecked by a train."  This seems to get at the coronavirus situation:  People's autonomy (I can go wherever I want) "wrecked" by the train of the virus so that one has to stay home or secluded instead.

The correlative symbol for this week is:  "A retired sea captain."  This sounds more refreshing  Still there is the hint of being subdued, of resting and living in the past to a degree.  "A general accepting defeat gracefully" is similar.  This could apply to some investors, and many others in other ways.  One defeat is not final defeat.  Expediency now can be accomplishment in the future.  Reorientation is needed, but it is not an end of anything promising, just of what had already fulfilled its purpose.  "A girl surreptitiously bathing in the nude" is us as we immerse ourselves in relaxing and restoring moments, which preserve our sanity and composure.  "A man bringing down the new law from Sinai" is ourselves as we comprehend better the over-all principles by which we choose to live.

"Butterfly emerging from chrysalis" is ourselves eager for self-renewal, not sluggish, but resting often in the matrix which supports us while we gather strength.  This week our lives should be not frenzy but emanation.
