Cruel despotism may be evident in some places.  It seems to have decreased over the centuries, but there is still way too much of it.  What is happening to prisoners around the globe and in the U. S., for example, during this pandemic?  Are they being neglected?  That would be cruel despotism, especially because so many prisoners here and elsewhere are unjustly imprisoned for things they haven't done (look at the records of the Innocence Project if you need to be convinced of that).  What about the people of India? Probably Narendra Modi has the finest of motives, yet "sheltering in place" for 21 days seems draconian, especially to those in extreme poverty, of whom there are millions.  Is the Indian government being cruel, or is it merely being perceived that way by some?  The symbol is "A powerful man holding a scourge and driving two slaves in manacles."  Some employees of Amazon, for example, may feel the "slave-driver" is Jeff Bezos, for they are being asked to work extra hours to meet the huge demand for deliveries when people can't shop at regular outlets.  Yet many in governments and hospitals around the world are doing the best they know how, "A military officer mounted on a fine-looking charger, with sword in hand, on the top of a hill as if on look-out."  Charubel says this denotes "a strategist, one competent to organize a multitude or an army."  That is happening, even if by fits and starts. 

"An unexpected thunderstorm" would not be surprising during a |difficult third of the week|, either literal or metaphoric.  What seems accidental has roots in karma and in kindly teaching, that is, the cosmos shakes us up a little to teach us something we have failed to learn otherwise.  That will prevent worse things from happening.  Things come to a dramatic head so that we may shape them toward a desired end.  Then when the climax has passed we may relax into watching "bubbles floating in the air" or some kind of superficial entertainment. Or make an April Fool joke!

Still, our basic efforts could raise us to dignity, honor, and reward, "A man at the summit of a mountain illumined by the setting sun, holding a staff and crown."  The nebulous character of working arrangements at present invests them with a certain glamor (Mercury conjoined to Neptune in Pisces).  When done with a job we may be like "Gondoliers in a serenade," participating in the stream of events sentimentally.  In some Italian cities, dwellers in apartment buildings have opened their windows and serenaded one another, singing together from a safe distance!  A fine example.

I'll not claim that my forecast that March 30--April 6 would be 8 days beginning a better Epoch (that good one being from March 30 through June 1) is perfect, but I emphasize, as I did yesterday, that Monday is not a good sample of how it will be because the moon is void-of-course on Monday virtually all day.  Tuesday has other problems, so I hope you will wait until the weekend, and early next week (April 6 and later) to evaluate the forecast.  I think April and May will be much more bearable, however many cases of the virus there may be.  We are learning how to cope with it with less upset.

Here is something suggesting my forecast might be right:  I see that on March 29 there were 18,000 new cases of the virus, according to the NYTimes, whereas on March 28 there were 22,000 new cases.  That was the first large decrease in new cases ever! (U. S. figures.)  Well I hope that trend will continue but cannot guarantee anything at a time like this. The media are not reporting that particular figure because (1) it is premature to draw conclusions from it and (2) they don't want to encourage people to stop the social distancing or "sheltering in place."

Tuesday:  Our Victorian-era clairvoyants are telling us not to be silly.  "A man climbing a pole set on an elevation" is chasing vain things and "exerting himself to no purpose" His ambitions are "in the clouds."  Well one might ask what else one is to do if one cannot go out to one's regular workplace?  Further, someone is focalized on "a series of bubbles floating in the air."  Vanities and vagaries make him "a mere dabbler."  Again, in our defense, what are we to do when we are told to "shelter in place"?  Maybe watching comedies on Netflix or Youtube is totally reasonable at least for a while.  

Someone finding the way through "a labyrinth" is more serious, though his or her conduct is so eccentric that worldly success may be denied.  Such can be the lot of astrologers or other researchers into the arcane.  Still, at times he or she may find a true path through the maze and guide others, younger or less experienced, like "a man leading two children by the hands."  Then the twistings and turnings of the labyrinth have value with a good outcome for teacher and student.

"An old adobe mission" is still our homestead, offering the durability of a solid community backdrop and the depth of character it represents.  We are pulling together through this crisis.  'One large, ripe, nicely tinted apple suspended from a bough" represents the advance we make from obscurity to excellence, like a ripening fruit, and also the unexpected rewards we may find accruing to us.  And, I hope, moments of sheer pleasure and satisfaction.

"The wheels of the gods grind slowly" and when I said things would "get better" during March 30-April 6 I meant that it might take all eight days to see good effects.  As fate would have it, today the moon is void-of-course, so you may be doubting the validity of my prediction while the ordinary issues of v-of-c prevail, such as uncertainties and irresolutions.  

What I believe is not that the pandemic will suddenly cease, though if new cases decrease that would be wonderful and I hope that happens.  More basically, I expect that ways of dealing with the crisis will improve.  There has been no single perfect or even agreed-upon way of handling all the medical, isolation, and other techniques, or who can work and where, and that has been utterly confusing to many, and lives have been upended because of not knowing what in h is going on or what tomorrow's revised rules might be.  That is typical of any Dark Hermetic Epoch, but it was plain to see for all this time around.  So what I predict during these eight days is that at least there will be clarification of what businesses, hospitals, doctors, government officials, and others are expecting, what their rules of procedure will be, and so on, so that at least we can have a sense of continuity and reassurance that people know what they are doing.  But that may be more evident in the following seven days than today.

Monday:  Some may be boastful, thinking that they and they alone have answers, "a man looking through the wrong end of a telescope."  They see others and their opinions as less than they really are and they magnify their own views to gigantic proportions.  Albeit, others have fine sensibilities and perceptions.

It appears that some are planning how to save and invest so that they will ultimately gain.  "An alchemist at work in his laboratory; upon his table is much gold."  This is patience, thrift, and inventiveness, leading to success in "an eccentric vocation."  When the world is eccentric, we may as well be.  

Good and even prosperous indications in the symbols seem surprising, given the financial chaos the world is facing.  "A field of ripe corn ready for the sickle; a cloudless sky and brilliant sunshine."  Reminds me of my Uncle Bob's cornfield at harvest time.  Maybe people are getting ideas about how to prosper during this strange period.  "An old adobe mission" seems more realistic, suggesting that some things endure forever, such as those relatively selfless groups who set up spiritually inspired charitable works and institutions.  Of course they are needed now and I just saw a photo of a "bread line" in New York.  Dr. Jones says that the old adobe mission represents "man's heritage of enduring ties which he must neither neglect nor underrate."

Weekend of March 28-29, and Coming Week:  The Pandemic and the Dark Epoch

About the only thing people want from me now is an answer to the question,  When will the pandemic end?  When will I be able to go back to work and play and restaurants and normal life?  It would be folly to claim that I have an answer to that.  Neither do the medical people and the epidemiologists.  I read what they are saying and of course they contradict each other to a large degree, because there are so many variables to take account of and apparently only G*d sees all of them (that is the Supermind of Sri Aurobindo).  

However, since 1979, and then since 1999 when I improved the method and the calculations, I have been teaching all who read these reports to take very seriously what I call the Dark and Bright Hermetic Epochs.  I am not going to explain all of that again right now.  I have been explaining it for the past two months in these daily and weekly reports.  The Dark Epoch is hard, for material affairs, though good spiritually.  It includes usually the same kinds of confusions, bollixed opinions, uncertainties, cobwebs in the brain, spiderwebs in society, that we have been suffering collectively.  This one began on February 2 and goes through March 29.  Here is the timeline:

DHE began Feb 2 --> (Mercury retrograde began Feb 16, ended Mar 9) --> DHE continues until March 30

Why is this Mercury cycle so important for humanity?  Study Sanskrit.  Man is the "manomaya purusha," the mental being, the mental individual or soul.  Mercury is, in astrology, the mind, that is, the thinking mentality.  We are identified with that form of consciousness, though there are others forms higher than that.  When Mercury slows down in relation to the sun, which represents as in a mirror the earth because it is the center of our orbit, people go crazy.  Yes, crazy, or so it seems to me.  Or, to be charitable, we are trying to manifest something higher than Mercury, our usual minds, because that is failing us.  So we don't know where to turn.  The answer would be, to the sun, Sol, the higher self which is omniscient and omni-competent.  How to do that?  We keep trying.  Some do it through prayer and meditation, which I recommend.  Others stumble on doing it however they may, doing it wrong if they depend on drugs and alcohol, and so on.  We have the freedom to do it our own way.  Why would the coronavirus hit the whole world during this particular DHE?  Because, first of all, seemingly ALL major tragedies or cataclysms or newsworthy and memorable horrid events occur at such times.  I cite the assassination of JFK, the attack on the WTC on 9/11/01, and now this pandemic.  There is much more for anyone who does the research.  The beginning of World War I (July-August 1914).  On and on.

So the DHE is a fact.  As to why it was a pandemic which hit this time, I cannot give an utterly confident answer, but there are clues.  Four planets were in Capricorn from February 16 through March 21.  That is a lot, a stellium.  Capricorn people are often wonderful, but planets in that sign in the transits can be very difficult.  It is the sign of Saturn, and Saturn has been there  in its own sign.  Now it is in Aquarius which is also its own sign (according to the ancients) and so still it "rules" all the other planets except Venus now in Taurus.  Saturn is the "big baddy" planet as everyone knows, but only because it brings out the challenges which we cannot rise toward, the tests we cannot always pass.  So we are being tested by Saturn during this Dark Hermetic Epoch.  Further, it is possible to say that Capricorn is the 8th house (death) of Gemini, the lungs, and Gemini is the 6th house (health) of Capricorn.  (Capricorn rules the skin and some have had skin problems or rashes during this period.)  A viral infection makes sense as one way this sign could manifest when it is challenging us.  

Well, it would be easy, and too facile, to say that the pandemic will end on March 30.  However, let us hope that we will see signs of its waning beginning then.  I posted this on my Facebook page today:  "Cobwebs, spiderwebs still in our faces.  Improvement during 3/30--4/6."  That is, the eight days beginning March 30 may be the transition period into the Bright Epoch (which technically begins on the 30th but based on lunar data could take a while to get going in a strong manner).  

Those 8 days happen to coincide, nearly, with the coming week, so that is my report.  I hope, but cannot guarantee, that we will see improvement on all fronts.

\Facing and Emerging From the Depths/

At a time like this, we need philosophy, theology, spiritual thinking, a solid and believable view of the meaning, tenure, and final end of life.  Astrologers do not all agree on such points, and neither do theologians, philosopher, or gurus.  And so I am not trying to provide a complete philosophic-spiritual view of the pandemic and what it means in general or in individual cases.  I am trying to look at the astrological trends. The question of "Why should the motions of the planets have anything to do with human destiny?" is not something I can consider in these daily and weekly reports.  They just do, as may be seen by careful observation.  

Some of the symbols for the day (according to a formula I worked out scrupulously over decades) raise these questions.  One, according to Charubel, is "the degree of death":  "The ascendant enveloped in gloom and blackness."  I reject this as really "the" degree of death, but it could be helpful as suggesting that we all need to face what death means for us.  I believe in reincarnation.  I believe also that life, longevity, can be prolonged through spiritual means, that is, through arriving at deeper, more effective ways of cooperating with the will of G*d or the Cosmos so that our lives are worth preserving.  Others, such as the philosophers Martin Heidegger or Jean-Paul Sartre, believe that we have to face death as an end and try to live in ways which we consider noble despite the fact that our personal consciousness will disappear at some point.  I accept the more positive view that we are immortal, and there is considerable evidence for that in the amazing book by Leslie Kean, Surviving Death.  I heartily recommend it.  It is a virtual textbook of what can be known at present about the after-death state.  Whatever your view of death, this degree suggests it is worth while to develop your attitudes and thoughts regarding it so that you can live more fully:  "I advise [those living under the influence of this degree, as we are for a day] to to devote their energies to the spiritual side of their nature.  Here they may find comfort . . ."  This might apply to those who are working medically to stem the pandemic, for example, and to all of us in other ways.  I dreamed last night of a long-deceased relative, and felt that this was important and helpful for me, and maybe for him.

"Swimming against the current" could mean a lot of things:  Some, as in Louisiana and the Mardi Gras a month ago, perhaps have accentuated the death-toll by their behavior.  That is "swimming against the stream of life."  But all of us can try to "swim against the stream" of the pandemic, the virus, and I think we will succeed.

These degrees are not easy.  I read yesterday about the situation in India, where stringent lockdown rules set forth by Narendra Modi could result in people actually starving unless some kind of aid can be delivered to them.  Many of the poorest there earn their food money from day to day, but now they cannot work.  What then?  Here is another degree for the day:  "A bed of a dried-up river wherein crows are feeding."  Sepharial says, "Though all his life long he may minister to the wants of others, yet in his advancing years he will be abandoned to the mercy of wayfaring and deceitful men."  A rickshaw driver who now has no way to feed himself and his family?  Let's pray for the impoverished in India.  There can be hope from those who take up the proper role of "true Brahmins" who help the distressed, symbolized by "a woman entering a convent."  Medical and perhaps spiritual workers, and government people if they are good ones, seem to be consecrated to aiding all as if religious workers.  I feel very humble before them.

I perhaps am more like "A woman reading tea leaves."  I look for signatures in the sky as interpreted by some great minds, trying to "fit the exigencies of practical living into some pattern of possible consummations."  I have to say that there are a lot of good aspects in the sky right now, the chief of them being Venus in Taurus trine to both Jupiter and Mars in Capricorn.  This is fortunate materially and financially.  That may seem odd, yet the financial stimulus bill (probably passed today by the House after the Senate passed it Wednesday) will give a great many some relief.  The stock market is up again today as I write.  I also believe that we are all finding ways of enjoying some luxuries in our own ways (Venus trine Jupiter is luxurious).  (Evening should be better than earlier in the day.)  Venus trine Mars can be romantic love, of course, and the final symbol is "A large hat with streamers flying, facing east" which indicates Excitation, naive creativity, "the ever-emerging novelties and variations of human relationships."  We can "co-operate with every immediate trend of events."  Taking care, of course, to observe the six-feet or two-yards rule . . .

It seems we are not to forget that during this crisis there are actually people dying, for we have the symbol "A widow at an open grave."  The keyword is Reorientation, suggesting that families of victims have to carry on through revised life situations.  Another dire symbol, of a king who falls from his throne because of hidden enemies, can be taken as a warning to be wisely cautious in all things. Has the human race been too cocky, too cavalier about the grace of G*d which keeps it alive?  Is the virus a potential cure for that?  I hope people are turning to humble and (if possible) selfless prayer.

Perhaps some are, for we have "A woman entering a convent."  Medical and governmental workers in the front lines may feel that they are consecrated to a selfless cause, as if "in a convent."  Good for them.  "A large aviary" has the keyword Community, and we are learning what that means in fresh ways, even though the community for now has to be less tangible in order to protect the vulnerable. The large variety of "birds" shows how each has a unique way of rising beyond the crisis.

"A spacious scope for wandering in a forest of big oaks" is said to show singleness of purpose within large freedom.  Says Charubel, "This person will prosper if allowed to go in his own groove."  The moon exactly conjunct Uranus today emphasizes such independent choice.  "A man  successfully expressing himself in two realms at once" makes creative divisions of labor while he "participates in the experience of many interpenetrating realms of reality."  Our bodies may be confined but our minds are free.

P. S.  It may be "going out on a limb" to predict anything during this situation, but I will say:  For most, things should get better or easier during the eight days of March 30 through April 6.

^Administration of Munificence?^

(For those new to these reports, the |difficult third| of a week is based on the moon's relation with Saturn, which varies in a near-weekly cycle. It just happens to be ending on Friday this week.)

Looking at the daily chart, it feels to me that people are thinking, mostly, more about work than the illness itself, that is, What happened to my job? When will it be back?  Or if they are working, How do I deal with the complexities of my work in this pandemic situation?  

Who is supervising whom? There are tensions in relation to who is bossing whom.  Also, government officials seem to be in command sometimes but are uneasy about the situation, not wanting to offend those they order about yet seeming to offend.  We need to look at this whole mess as "a mountain pilgrimage," a project shared together, rather than just "a mess."  The task at hand requires perseverance, and when we reach the top of the mountain -- the "peak" of the illness, after which it declines -- we can rejoice.  Let us keep that in mind and hope it can be sooner rather than later. (Meanwhile, of course, the distancing restrictions have to be observed or we postpone the peak and the release.)

There are hopeful signs.  People are thinking about how they can profit somehow through current or later business opportunities, how they can proceed gainfully once they are able to reconstitute their business, job, or profession.  Thrift is important, leading to utility.  Anyone who gets ahead of the game, anticipating quick results unrealistically, could slip off into passionate desires which Charubel calls "virulent."  You will sense that this means when you get promptings you sense as dangerous.

Will Congress finally come through with a program to help workers financially, and reimburse the general public for losses, and help reconstitute the economy?  Maybe, because we have "An open window and a net curtain blowing into a cornucopia" with the keyword Munificence.  I think we are ready for that.  It's "the mutual prodigality of man and his world" according to Dr. Jones, which can also be "unmerited good fortune."  I am up for that.  Or if it skips me and goes to others, I will try to be magnanimous.  There is a trend toward straightforward, sincere sharing of good fortune in happy conversation, facilitated by "a tankard set upon a table."  If this has to be a virtual or electronic table, so be it.

We have three "tiers" of possibilities. Let's take the hardest first.  It seems many will feel that their "cross is too heavy to bear," suffering in deep gloom with inability to procure help.  We can pray for and aid, as far as we can, those who feel helpless.  Perhaps they are anticipating troubles which will not occur if there is sufficient vigilance on both the material and spiritual planes. Medical personnel may know better than the rest of us how to deal with such situations. But we shouldn't cast the whole burden on them.  

The next tier is more cheery, with suggestions of restless seeking for adventure, something novel all the time.  "Enough of that, let's move on to something else."  There is "a water sprite" and "a flock of wild geese."  It is not always clear why the geese go here or there.  Their pattern seems insouciant and spontaneous.  Yet there may be instincts guiding them to their next habitation.  People are wondering, anticipating, scoping things out in their minds in view of the restrictions most are suffering, and a lot of this can be healthy, trying out possible freedom which is more than caprice. 

The third tier is final victory.  "A person climbing a rock in a storm amid flashes of lightning" has force of character and perseverance so that he traverses peril and arrives at the top--success!  Then he or she is ready for a reward, sharing sincere feelings with those around as if at a friendly table in a hostel or restaurant.  Oops, that is supposed to be shared moments on the phone, internet, Skype or Zoom at this point in our history . . .

~A Pause that Could Refresh~

Final day of the Old Moon; the New will occur early Tuesday at 2:29a PT  5:29a ET | 9:29a UT

A mostly void-of-course day during a Dark Epoch means:  Don't expect too much, be content with what is, and work at things internally first before externally, so that whatever you do outwardly is solid and mature.  Extra rest and meditation is good.  Yes, there can be dangers, and it is the final day of an Old Moon so, again, extra rest may be appropriate.  

"A plain covered by dense fog, but sunshine above" means that material matters are hard or obscured (no kidding) but that spiritual or transcendental matters go brilliantly.  Frustration and confusion are going to be temporary.  Again we have the "man struggling in a lake until a lifebuoy is thrown to him" and this is a "godsend" or perhaps a "Congress-send" if that body in fact arrives at an agreement about financial aid today. (I would suspect tomorrow instead, or at least its thrust will be clearer then.)  People are waiting for the lifebuoy. 

"Two men striving to hold a mad bull with ropes about his head" is government trying to get people to stay in lockdown.  I can't blame those who are "stir crazy" and want to be out and about.  (Maybe in this case "steer crazy.") Well, a walk or run while staying your distance from other walkers is just fine, we are told.  "A crow or raven standing on a water-pot" is said to be someone envious and mischievous.  Not sure who that would be in my world.  But confinement might be making some fume beneath the surface.  

Finally it appears that some will feel they can profit or gain through all this mayhem, "A man covered with decorations and ornaments enjoying himself amazingly with self-admiration."  That is good luck.  We need it.  Fortune showers a few gifts at least.  We respond with spontaneity, like "a water sprite" (moon in Pisces much of the day) whose restlessness avoids the drab or commonplace.  (But remember to stay your distance from people.)

Foreshadowings of the coming Epoch, March 30 through June 1, 2020

First, in terms of long-term forecasting, for four decades I have been emphasizing the Hermetic Epochs, or Mercury cycles, as my basic astrological way of dividing time for human beings on this planet.  These are either Bright (fast Mercury) or Dark (slow Mercury) and they show basic trends toward either confusion or clarification, at one level.  At other levels they show positive spiritual things, but when there is a pandemic, not many are going to be thrilled were I to say"There are spiritual gains from being sick."  But the fact remains that the current Dark Epoch began February 2 and ends March 29, so the fact is that VERY EVIDENTLY AND CLEARLY THE PANDEMIC IS HITTING MOST COUNTRIES, INCLUDING THE U. S.,  EXACTLY DURING THE DARK HERMETIC EPOCH.  (Yes, it began earlier in China.) Will someone at last give me credit for discovering this phenomenon (in 1979)?  No one had heard about it until then. I have explained that and re-explained it in these posts for more than twenty years.  Today is not the time to re-re-re-explain it. 

Yes, things are "worse" in appearance during those times.  Hurricanes, fires, other disasters, the "hanging chad" presidential election of 2000, 9/11/2001, the assassination of JFK, are only the beginning, and I have been pointing out this phenomenon for two decades.  Will people listen finally?  I doubt it.

So, I have to say that, no matter what happens, things should "get somewhat better" at least during the next Bright Hermetic Epoch which begins March 30.  But of course that does not mean that there will be a miracle cure for the illness that day, or the following week.  It may be merely that people are learning how to deal with the crisis in a better way and some of the restrictions will be eased selectively, and the government will come through with financial help for many or all, and so on.  There are always some difficult aspects. My high school math teacher used to ask us, "What, you want egg in your beer?"  

Yes I am looking for that "egg" in the chart for March 30 through June 1, the next Epoch.  It does in fact look better than the current one not only because it is Bright (fast Mercury) but because the proportion of "good" or easy aspects is greater than it was in the previous epoch.  Adding them up according to my personal formula I get this:

DHE, February 2 - March 29:  minus 21

BHE, March 30 - June 1:  plus 36

Of course this is a rule of thumb.  We are in this together and astrology cannot provide a certain answer any more than medicine and government have been able to provide certain answers.  Let's think positively, hope and pray.

The moon was void-of-course today (Friday) during the presidential press conference when he and several of his medical experts gave their testimony as to possible drugs to be tried and other advances.  None of this was utterly certain, as they admitted. The moon remains void-of-course as I write and so I am saying things which are tentative, as best I know how.  I said in the forecast for today that "not exposition but creativity as in poetry or music" might be better during this particular void-of-course period.  And so I am going to be personally creative tonight rather than write more here.  Be well.

One final thing:  Venus and Mars are now in a trine which lasts throughout April and into May, as I have reported previously.  This is of course good for romance, love, love-relations between or within the sexes.  That can go on apart from crowds.  Also it can be more subtle, in personal enjoyment of the arts, music, drama, comedy, and so on.  It is happening.  It is one reason younger people are having such a hard time obeying these "stay home" mandates.  We all cope in our own ways.

"Swimming against the current" seems to be the name of the game during this historically peculiar time.  Or, one could just decide against normal conventional life, choose a more deep-stirring path, and emulate "a woman entering a convent."  This is "social distancing" combined with consecration to some enduring allegiance.

"Two awards for bravery in war" could go to any of thousands of medical personnel, or others such as delivery people who are braving the "contrary current" for the sake of the rest of us.  Many are giving more than they receive in return, in one way or another.  This redounds to their ethical, karmic credit.

It's the first day of Spring! I have been predicting that this would be a milestone in the crisis, toward something better, before the further important milestone of March 30 when a new Bright Epoch begins.  Maybe we ought not to expect too much at once but better alignments should be in place for health and for the economy.  (More in tomorrow's report for the coming week.)  The Sabian symbol for the first degree of Aries is one I have never understood well, "A woman rises out of water, a seal rises and embraces her."  If this is taken into quiet meditation it might reveal something.  Dr. Jones says it indicates a realization of "completely unconditioned potentiality."  This fits nicely with "A man holding the end of a rope in his hand, the other end out of sight in the heavens."  Charubel says this denotes a psychological power to "procure esoteric truth at will consciously."  "Esoteric truth" on a void-of-course day might fit less well into exposition than into poetry or music.  Let's be creative.

It's impossible to love all the symbols for the degrees of the zodiac bequeathed to us, but one cannot deny their accuracy.  For today, "a lion raging against the bars of its cage" seems exactly what many (especially young) people feel.  It's a matter of rights and privileges, and adjudicating or adjusting them.  Sepharial says that the lion needs to "adapt himself to his environment" which requires temporary restraint.  "Two man striving to hold a mad bull with ropes" likewise suggests self-will and a powerful desire to have one's own way, frustrated by the social situation. 

Even those who feel they can enjoy themselves for a while may sense the lurking constraints which threaten loss of job, money or liberty.  They could get philosophic about it and retreat into meditation.  "The Great Stone Face" is that of one who discerns quietly the endless cycles through which we pass, with a sense of assured immortality.  Therefore his or her character is settled, and encouraging to others.

"Two awards for bravery in war" suggests social and political stewardship and self-dedication, preserving values for all through individual character inspired by idealism.  This brings recognition, which then recycles into an expanded wish to be heroic.  In times like these, this could be in small ways which nevertheless have an impact.

"A man upon a raft floating in open sea" has the keyword Isolation.  Oh, it could be what many of us are feeling.  Sepharial says "Let him take in hand the rudder of intelligence and spread his sails in hope."  He and we may resemble the "general accepting defeat gracefully."  But we have loyalty to long-range goals, which translates into expediency when things are difficult. 

Should we attribute some of our problems to our own mistakes?  Maybe have followed inherent impulses too willingly with not enough power of direction and adaptation?  Then our arrow could miss the mark as it declines, unless we could marvelously change its course in mid-trajectory.  Maybe we could, by psychokinesis, if we don't tipple into excess of desire and passion which makes us "overturn a wineglass" rather than be soberly vigilant.  Or, we could overturn the wineglass into the sink.

There are deeper levels.  Maybe with all the time alone some will be developing mental resources, studying, climbing a ladder which reaches toward inspiration and profound speculation.  Mystery has its attractions.  Those who penetrate into it have charisma.  One could be like "one who is sought after while himself seeking none."

P. S.  As to the endurance of the pandemic, I have been saying that things get better on the ^20th and on the ^30th, that is, beginning on those two dates and extending into April.  Of course that doesn't mean the pandemic will end by then although that would be glorious.  At least some things should be better, or we will know how to cope with the situation better and feel more relaxed.  Maybe those government checks will be in our mailboxes . . .

Obviously there is a worldwide health crisis, but in astrological terms there is an even greater "work crisis" or "career challenge."  That is probably because the virus itself does not hit nearly as many people as the strategies to fight it do, that is, their disruption of ordinary scheduling and business and cash flow.  Businesses are hurting and having to reorganize, as are individuals who are professionals or temps or even those retired.  "What is my purposive function in society?" is a question everyone is trying to answer, probably without words but as trying to sense what one's mission is, what is worth doing.  This of course will be easier after the vernal equinox on the ^20th and even easier after the new Bright Hermetic Epoch begins on the ^30th, as I have been saying.  Those could be milestone points for you.

Meanwhile, in today's symbols, you may be that "general accepting defeat gracefully."  That means realistic practicality.  Rather than immediately starting another battle (maybe involving business, job or money) doomed to failure, you take a pause to determine what is expedient, and stay with that for the time being.  There is also "a girl bathing surreptitiously in the nude," and because of the pandemic she does not want you to see her, but nevertheless there could be love peeking around various corners because Venus and Mars have begun a long-term trine, effective by ten degrees from March 10 through May 14.  This may be felt more strongly in the (this time) affectionate month of April.  

Lofty inspirations lead to mental speculation.  Scholarship of the right sort elevates humanity.  Many college students are now being forced to study online from their homes.  This is cumbersome (Dark Hermetic Epoch until March 30) but could still result in wonderful insights.  At another level, there is the search for a cure for the virus.  This could go well although the results remain on hold.  At a still higher level there is the search for the spiritual healing of illness, which many face most deeply when actually ill.  I cannot say I am grateful for illnesses I have had, but some of them have helped me learn how to pray.  Man's extremity can be God's opportunity.  "A serpent standing erect within a circle of fire" learns from the ordeal to rise beyond the suffering.  "He will take life at a crisis and turn it back from the Gates of Death."  May such divine healing be the lot of all who have been infected. 

Those not infected who want some lighter moments in their lives may be genial and convivial. In having a good time they might go too far, losing control of desires which are like "a wine glass overturned."  This is a familiar story.  Escape of a legitimate sort does not have to turn into a fiasco.  Rather there can be justice, peace, liberality; fraternity or sorority.  "Good works" for others do not have to be virtue-conscious burdens but can be light and free, easily shared, a grace of friendly interaction.  If that has to be at a distance for awhile, okay.

I can't say I like the picture this chart is showing, but we'll get through it. 

Work seems emphasized.  One has a position in the community determined partly by one's work and that is important.  

We all know the stock market, plus business in general, is in trouble and this symbol seems to focus on that:  "Two dogs running, one carrying a bone, the other in pursuit of it." This could be the bears versus the bulls in investment, one invested short, the other long, so that when one wins the other loses. It's happening.  I would rather ignore the symbol "an earthquake" for it is said to signify "sudden and unexpected calamities."  Patient and humble endeavors are recommended rather than daring ones.  One has "a greater need of care and stronger faith in God, oneself and humanity."  

Paperwork, accounts, and such are emphasized, either one's own or those which are public.  The crisis is obviously forcing many in government and out of it to do extra accounting.  Opposed to all that is a trend toward incontinence or extravagance, "a wineglass overturned."  Drinking to cure one's troubles obviously has its limits.  And many are warning against visiting bars and restaurants at this time.

"A party entering a large canoe" is ironic because we are being told to avoid such crowding.  What it means is the ordering of community efforts in a protective manner, which is going on with a lot of fortitude and good faith.  Thanks! to all those who are working overtime to confine the virus or mitigate it or end it.  The "canoe" means "we're in this together, like it or not."  "A relay race" means we do not want to "pass on" a virus, but "pass on" the torch of our valiant endeavors so that each one can do his or her part.  That way the race against infection can be won.  Likewise the race toward restored stability in the business sector.  As for personal meanings, you can find those yourself, some effort you make in a project which you transmit to someone else involved in it.

Bill Maher has put his show on "hiatus" for the next week. Cosmic Piper predicted that things would get somewhat better beginning March 20, day of the Vernal Equinox, which is the week Maher will return. Maybe Maher subconsciously "knew" something. I believe successful people have a covert, subconscious "astrologer" within them, sensitive to things like the Mercury cycles.

Donald Trump said weeks ago that he thought the pandemic would subside "by April." People mocked him for that. However, Cosmic Piper has predicted that things will get better beginning March 30 because a new Bright Hermetic Epoch begins then, lasting into mid-May. Trump's "gut" is actually right very often.

The New York Public Library announced it will be closed until at earliest April 1. Mercury of course rules books, libraries, study, and all things mental or intellectual, and its new Bright Epoch will begin March 30 exactly when the Library is expected to re-open.

Unconscious or subconscious cosmic timing is a thing.

Yea, Accurate Predictions!

As destiny would have it, the President's very long press conference plus announcements came on just as I was ready to write this report, and I dutifully listened to all of it.  You like all of us are inundated with information about the virus and steps for ending it, so I shall say only this:  For weeks I have been predicting that things would get better beginning March 13, Friday, and that was the very day the President announced a national emergency plus new plans for combating the virus such as drive-through testing, waiving student loans temporarily, etc..  I consider that a "score" for Cosmic Piper.  Also, Friday was the first day that I read in the news that there is an "abatement" of the virus in China and Korea.  Yea!  Things in fact are getting better.  Also, on Friday the stock market recovered from some of its previous losses, with a whopping gain of 9 per cent.  A triple play for Cosmic Piper!  

The next date for improvements which I announced comes in a week, March 20, and I believe it will be another step forward in combating the virus and also for improvements in the stock market.  (It's the day the sun enters Aries, the Vernal Equinox, first day of Spring.)  And finally there should be another boost upward when a fresh Bright Hermetic Epoch begins on March 30.  April will be a better, easier month.

I have been working on weekly charts for years and believe that my research is near complete.  These weeks run from Saturday through Friday, for good reasons I won't discuss.  I am using a combination of the astrological aspects during the week, the planetary positions in signs and field systems, and the reigning symbols for the degrees of the zodiac, discovered by clairvoyants (two from the 19th century and one from the 20th).

~Victims Rescued by Good-Humored Heroes~

There are no planets in fire or air signs!  All ten are in earth and water signs.  This is rare.  Our feet are on the ground and we are dealing with the complexities of the physical world (earth) and our emotional reactions to it (water).  What about my health? and what about my money? are the big questions.  

Of course not everything is easy, but the chart does look smoother than the one for the previous week (of a huge Market crash plus pandemic panic).  We feel more in control.  Mars in Capricorn is the leading planet, cutting edge, high-focus planet and that means control, control, control.  We are control freaks!  We have to be according to our various governments who are trying to shepherd us past the virus, for example, and we are watching our bottom line as the Market and business conditions have to adjust to the severe restrictions on ordinary motion and trading.  Because Mars is in a trine with Venus in Taurus (her own sign where she is strong, and she is the planet of money), I am optimistic.  Yet because it is still a Dark Hermetic Epoch, there are going to be all of those backward, re- tracking, revising necessities, and things which apparently waste one's time or cause disruptions and annoyances.  We can deal with it.  Signor Borelli's symbol for Mars's position is "a plow" which he says indicates "arduous and protracted labors."  But force of character, definition of purpose, and incisiveness give us headway against obstructions.  We cut out a line for ourselves.  We may need to use "old and waste materials" or in other words whatever is at hand during a time when so many things are restricted or on hold.  

Here is what many of us will feel like during some moments:  "A man struggling in a lake; only the head out;  sometimes it appears to sink under, but rises again and again until at last a lifebuoy is thrown to him by a person witnessing; finally he is saved."  This could be the cruise industry, the airline industry, any business impacted by the virus-caused restrictions, an individual investor, or someone who actually gets the virus.  Says Charubel:  "He will be in trouble through debt; always involved and on the verge of bankruptcy; finally by some un-looked-for godsend he or she is delivered."  

"A squirrel hiding from hunters" could be people remaining home, isolated or quarantined.  Caution is appropriate.

Why do we have the symbol denoting "a leader and a commander of a society or a nation, in the capacity of president" who is "a ruler indeed," as if "a shepherd looking out for the locality of his sheep"?  Well, both Trump and Pence (as in the press conference) feel that they are in such a position, while many critics will say they are doing it all wrong.  The "shepherd" is also any government official, servant, doctor or nurse who is trying to help those affected by the pandemic, shepherding them to safety.  Cynics who question government programs and regimentation will mock all this; others will welcome it.  "Two awards for bravery in war" will be given willingly by those who are benefited by all this "shepherding."  It is good to give recognition where it is deserved.

"A man lying in a bed, a grey dark cloud hanging over him.  His chamber is also dark and gloomy.  Yet the horizon looks bright."  After heavy affliction, health and other comforts.  Yea!  

At another level there are prospects for intellectual-spiritual seeking of a venerable sort, using books and scientific instruments for finding the inner meaning of nature's workings.  One doing this is solitary, yet always surrounded by those who seek him, though he seeks none.  Mystery is charismatic.  One of the scientific tools is symbolically "a prism," which provides many-hued validation of hypotheses or hopeful premises.  Learning when alive is colorful.  

Finally, there can be moments of sheer fun and pleasure, let us hope.  "A boat on a large lake or river.  Two men are rowing in it."  This shows fondness for company and changes.  These two have a speculative bent of mind and love adventure.  Well, if these virus-evaders are seeking "social separation" I guess a boat on a lake is a good place to be . . .
