~Firmness in Self-Rulership~
Moon in Cancer **
A hardships a matter of course? I hope not; yet reading the stories of spiritual strivers, such as Master Nan of China, one is impressed by their forcing of themselves to endure difficulties in their fierce training, whether in swordsmanship, study or meditation. It is good to prevent early death by wise health regimens and spiritual thinking. Laboring long as if on a treadmill is good if one's attitude is aspirational and deeply motivated.
A self-willed individual may be a "mad bull" with nothing but personal desire motivating him, or perhaps a true Master who has taken on enemies of higher truth for the advancement of humanity. A diligent person, female or male, is as if weaving a blanket, or as Gandhi with his daily spinning. Being proud, ambitious and firm is not wrong if one's ideal of leadership is as that of David, King of Israel.
Temptation comes when one wishes to take advantage of others, even if they offer themselves masochistically. When one discerns immortal realities one is above the desire to impress or hurt. Then also one is free from any tendency to be deceived by others who try to take advantage.
Treacherous schemes to capture one's money or goods need to be met with smooth rejection. Rather, one can facilitate things by handling ordinary matters close to one's daily work. If one's mind is elevated, one's self-assertion is beneficent.
