Mars turned retrograde last week and Mercury follows tomorrow. We are not exactly stuck in the past, but we may be biding our time, wondering where and when the next impulse will lead us. Luna's trine with the sun and Jupiter today is helpful in small ways at least, with some rebirth of optimism. The following quatrains are based on the symbols for the day but are not intended to dampen enthusiasm, rather to show that it needs to be solidly based in spiritual if not physical realities. I have made the former the basis of my life and find that the latter follow, as in the Lord's saying, "Seek ye first the Kingdom of Heaven and all the rest will follow." That approach is questioned somewhat in the poem, which does not mean that I am not the "zealot":
The candle burning at both ends suggests
This zealot's problems. His neighbor rather
Spends her time with pigeons and children, evoking
Faith in all she meets. The zealot gets no applause.
A world mission is his plan, from Turkey to Argentina,
In climates diverse, as if his lightning-flash
Could transform minds and hearts. Forceful and proud
By day, in sleep he tosses, spent and doubting.
The people he lectures are simple, men of the soil,
Agnostic. They work hard in service of those they seldom
Question. The zealot's impulsions, visions touch them as foolish--
Only entertaining wonderment: Enough!
