Values from the past. Then he feels he is creating
A statue--himself--veiled still but alive and breathing.
The young man plays among the pigeons, seeing messages in them
And dropping contact with adults who make life much too complicated.
He is simple, and amused by everything. People like him
For he seems to convey some strange enlightenment.
Afraid of losing everything, he holds on tight to
What he has, his clothes old and worn. Yet somehow
When one he cares for is in trouble he forgets
Himself, faces anger and adversity--revives forlorn hope.
