*Slowly Percolating Holiday Magic*

This is one of the rare times I feel I need almost to apologize for some things I said in the last report, especially regarding Friday. I suggested it could be a good social time. I think I was wrong. That is based on my "experiment" of being out with people Friday afternoon and evening. I did not notice people having a good time! As a matter of fact quite the reverse, people seemed reserved and unhappy. I did not notice happy couples together. I noticed rather people trying to contact someone on their cell phones and apparently failing, sinking into despondency. In the report I was trying hard to be nice, to say something happy and cheerful. But sometimes it is not good to do that, rather to prepare you readers for the worst. I think I should have done that for Friday (November 30). I was latching on to the moon's being in a trine with Venus; however, it was also in a trine with Saturn, not so good (while those planets lie together). Further, it was opposing Pluto and Mars while squaring Uranus. I noted these things, but should have given them greater weight. I admit that writing these reports is a learning experience for me and am glad that I learned something from this experience. So if, in the future, you wonder why I seem so morose, it is because I feel it is nicer to warn you against difficult times, so you will be prepared, than to deceive you into expecting something which does not pan out.

As a matter of fact, the conjunction of Venus with Saturn has been tough. Technically by a ten-degree orb it lasts from November 18 through December 4. And I have learned over the years not to expect a lessening of the pain of these Venus-Saturn hard aspects just because we are approaching the end of their duration. And I ought, in the future, to encourage you to mark the times of this particular contact on your calendars, so you will not blame yourself too much for the hard feelings which develop during such times. Classically, friendships or marriages hit the rocks. One feels unloved, or that one is unloving. And there seems no answer. They are good times for deeper spiritual seeking, in order to find Divine rather than merely human love.

They are also times when people worry a lot about finances. What about you, during this period since November 18? I have faced a lot of peculiar situations in connection with finances, even to the point of being billed for something which I know I do not owe and having to straighten this out painstakingly over many hours. Of course it is different in different cases, but the country as a whole is now facing the "fiscal cliff" and that is all the media have been talking about for the duration of this aspect. Debt, in a word. People learn during these hard Venus-Saturn times how to avoid debt or deal with it if they have incurred it.

This time I again admit a mistake I made in estimating this aspect and reporting on it. I thought that the concurrent sextile between Venus and Mars would help more than it has. It has been evident in small ways but the harsher Venus-Saturn configuration seems to have won. Perhaps, financially, the Venus-Mars sextile is part of what prevented a Market melt-down, which did not occur. In love, it has prevented the worst temperamental outbursts and schisms in relationships, for the most part. But not, probably, the sneaking suspicion that something is wrong in them.

So, I am learning that the best an astrologer can do for someone is sometimes to make clear the nature of a current challenge, rather than being too optimistic and saying "Everything is cheery." I have tried to avoid that from the beginning, but have still much to learn.

Prepare yourself for "really real" hard-nosed astrology!

Monday has its charms and benefits, but I have to warn against indolence. In order to experience the joy of the season, you have to put in some effort toward that.

There are possibilities of caring about those who are defenseless and helping them through a hard time. This could include animals. Cruelty, whether conscious or unconscious, is gradually being eliminated from the human race (more quickly in some regions than in others).

Mechanical solutions to problems are possible. That includes lifting and moving things. You can put things where they belong rather than where they confuse the situation.

Christmas lights are starting to make their appearance. Everybody senses something magical about this. The chart reflects it, with the moon in Leo trine the sun in Sagittarius, fire signs.

What is the opposite of the Christmas season? It too is present in human feelings. It needs to be dispelled! The Grinch, in a word, or the Scrooge of an earlier dispensation; we all have him in us to some degree. You want so much to get on with your own ambitions and cravings that you overlook boorishly the welfare of others around you. True, you have a responsibility to yourself, which no one denies. It goes even better when you try to care about "others" as well, in some way that is not just Sunday-Schoolish and boring but real to your consciousness.

If you feel sequestered or locked in your position, your home or job, you can reduce that feeling by doing some of the already-mentioned "moving of things" for others and for yourself. Stuff gets in the way. You can move it. It gets misplaced. You can put it where it belongs.

Those who feel they are being reduced to slaves, taken advantage of, are all around us, all over the world in the current economy. What any one of us can do about this (rather than merely feeling glad it's not us) is an individual discovery, and a happy one.

Inactivity, even laziness, has its charms, and often seems natural during a Dark Hermetic Epoch (until December 14). As I read the chart, it is better for us to get on with our activities as best we can during these two days, while not driving ourselves mercilessly. This becomes a form of holiday magic. Magic can be defined as Great results from small efforts. Well, you can probably sense what that means in some situations you face. Good luck with your charms and spells!
