}Readiness Plus Resilience Build a New World{
Let us hope the people of Egypt will, in solidarity, invoke a new and better government for themselves and that a happy new democracy will be their lot.
In Saturday's report I wrote, "Perhaps the people of Egypt ought to look toward their country's ancient lineage more than to its later Muslim orientation." I am not sure exactly what I meant by that, but it came to me. Yesterday I saw a very moving photo of free Egyptian citizens voluntarily forming a cordon, holding hands, around a museum housing their Egyptian antiquities, to protect them from looters. It seemed the answer to the meaning of my prediction. Here is what an Egyptian writer, Mansoura Ez-Eldin, said in the New York Times: Hour by hour on Friday evening, the chaos increased. Police stations and offices of the ruling National Democratic Party were on fire across the country. I wept when news came that 3,000 volunteers had formed a human chain around the national museum to protect it from looting and vandalism. Those who do such things are certainly highly educated, cultivated people, neither vandals nor looters, as they are accused of being by those who have vandalized and looted Egypt for generations. Indeed it was a touching moment and I completely understand Mansoura's tears. There is something about ancient Egyptian architecture and art which feels ancestral to us whatever our nationality.
Tuesday looks an excellent day for the continued demonstrations in Egypt, as planned. In your own life it could be a signal day. I would only point out one period of lassitude or confusion, the void-of-course time before the moon in Capricorn enters Aquarius, during the hours 11:33a-3:22p PT | 2:33p-6:22p ET | 7:33p-11:22p UT. It would be good to accomplish your most-important tasks before or after that time, especially if they involve negotiations or agreements with someone, or purchases and the like.
The camaraderie between the Egyptian revolutionaries and the soldiers is wonderful. In your own life you may see how those who together defend themselves may cooperate amicably. At the same time you will be happy at home when you spend time there, thinking of how it may be made an even happier place. You are alert to indications pointing toward definite action when that seems right, even if some of it may be delayed for a day or more since we are in the last day of the Old Moon before the New Moon Wednesday evening.
There is pride emanating from the conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus. It is evident, for example, in the faces of the long-suffering Egyptians who have hope for a new life. Fresh possibilities are thrilling. Science or mathematics may intrigue some, who spend much time on them whether or not there is anything "practical" to be gained. Others may release their personalities through laughter or comedy. The moon and Mercury sextile Jupiter and Uranus give happy perspective and confidence.
The sexes join together in chivalry, awakening to possibilities of fresh action, as in Egypt where although the majority of demonstrators are male, the women are there and highly supportive. When some facilities have collapsed, as in Egypt because much business is at a standstill, it is possible to improvise and recover. When people are caught up in internal excitement they are likely to forget some practical things or be absent-minded. You can train your memory if you focus on essentials as pegs, rather than TMI or too much information. It is also courteous to let some social contacts go when it is likely the "other" is too weary or preoccupied for them.
Somehow you are rising to the top of your field, as if by inspired inertia, or long-term patience, willing to deal with delays and obstacles one at a time for months and years. There come times when some who are eagerly in pursuit of objectives will risk danger or death. This could be one of those times, yet I hope that all who are in such a pass will be wise in choosing, so that the likelihood of accident or violence is minimized. The tortoise knows when to pull into its shell.
Venus's sextile with Neptune, exact, resurrects the beauty in all things, which keeps us going subconsciously when many other factors seem daunting. That should carry us into the evening, and by midnight or before in the Eastern Hemisphere (later in Europe) we escape the |daunting or worrisome third of this week| which, however, as outlined above, is likely to be less disturbing today than Sunday and Monday. Possibility, hope, and faith are being restored.

Whether there is actual evil in people is a question debated for centuries. Whatever the answer, we all know that sometimes people appear evil to us, and whether this is explained as psychological misfortune, obsession by evil spirits, failure to understand the deeper truths of being, or other factors, you may be tested today as to your particular answer. That means you have to ramp up your spiritual philosophy so as to face what looks wrong in people. It might help to see them as learning and growing through many lifetimes. They think their rights and privileges are such and such, while "the world" sees such rights otherwise. We need patience with one another while trusting in a higher power.
Through all this, people paint one another in false colors derived from jaundiced or prejudicial viewpoints. This can lead to wrong legal actions. We ought to trust laws of karma more and human laws less. Being truly hospitable toward one another is a great secret known to the humble.

Stresses seem to be easing, as compared with the previous five days. However, the political protests in Egypt, as in Tunisia, and the upheavals in Lebanon, seem linked to the conjunction of the sun with Mars, still increasing and with us over the next couple of weeks, and to the septiles of these two planets with first Uranus and now Jupiter. But the Jupiter septile is more beneficent so could signify reason rather than hysteria taking over in these places struggling toward democracy. (We must wonder, however, if true democracy could ever exist in a place ruled by a religious class which wants to impose its Sharia laws on others. A tyranny of the majority is not a democracy with guaranteed individual rights.)
Romantic leanings could be intense. The world is a wonderful place with intriguing and possibly thrilling people in it. Interplay between the sexes can heal discord and rebuild tottered structures. This could be true even in politics, probably behind the scenes in countries where women are not prominent in the political sphere.
Coordinating thought and action is necessary for healing discord, with attention to the daily circulation of your activities; or if you are one of those who take this day as a Sabbatical then you will want your spiritual interests to remain in a stream of effective aspiration. The circulation of the blood is important while the sun and Mars are together in Aquarius. A balance between rest and activity can be attained.
People with whom you have been communicating about issues of value may lose interest in you, or you in them, when the issues are no longer as critical. I suggested that this might be the best day of the week, for most; and not because of traditional TGIF but changing astrological aspects including lunar ones. I hope that proves true for you.
There is somewhat less of a feeling of fateful uncertainties, as if balanced on a precipice, and more of a feeling of "can do" although one knows one must work with the highest agencies available to one's consciousness, preferably spiritual agencies while Mars and Jupiter are in a septile. The man of action and the man of principle need to be at one.
You are determined to take charge of your life and are bringing your subconscious needs and desires into your conscious orbit of understanding and action. You are idealistic and inclined toward beauty of a stark sort, even that of urban architecture. Friends, especially female, are coming into their own in your realization of what they mean to you.
People long for that ideal kingdom where "the lion lies down with the lamb" because they are tired of conflict and ready for easy camaraderie.

As promised, things are looking better since Tuesday. If today does not strike you as perfect for deals or decisions, tomorrow may be "it," with the moon then in Sagittarius sextile the sun and Mars. However, the mood today should be quite upbeat most of the time. Although the moon is in Scorpio, not one of its better placements, it has exited the Via Combusta.
Self-absorption could be intense. You feel you have a right to demand attention and approval. If you mix that demand with noble or spiritual aspirations it will be more convincing.

The trend this week has been from worse to better, with Monday-Tuesday being the hardest, Friday probably the best, but today and Thursday are improvements. No, that is not because people anticipate the weekend. I am speaking in terms of astrological aspects, and not only the lunar ones.
The square between Mercury and Saturn has been sharpening the mind so it can focus on difficult matters, some of them legal or semi-legal, or business decisions which require careful strategy and action. Yet today Mercury's good (so-called minor) aspects with Jupiter and Neptune suggest optimism and prosperous potentials, even in connection with real estate or rentals. Choices in connection with your home are straightening out, even more tomorrow.
Intensity of passion: this could be compelling, probably of a sexual nature, or it could come out in sports or games as a passion to win. You may be lucky in either domain, finding your powers more effective than you had realized. You are resourceful and penetrate to essentials speedily.
Strength develops in interpersonal relations, as if two or more were developing energies together to meet a common foe or rise above obstacles. There is something fateful or destiny-laden in this. Who, or which partnership, is going to be first to accomplish something? Such rivalry has a healthy side. Resources are available to help you succeed. You might stumble over yourself when emotions defeat reason, but blending the two puts you back on your feet.
Energetic and alert, you get things done quickly, especially when pleasure lies at the end of the effort. Ordinary, simple things you do are bringing plenty into your life. The trend this week has been from worse to better, with Monday-Tuesday being the hardest, Friday probably the best, but today and Thursday are improvements. No, that is not because people anticipate the weekend. I am speaking in terms of astrological aspects, and not only the lunar ones.
The square between Mercury and Saturn has been sharpening the mind so it can focus on difficult matters, some of them legal or semi-legal, or business decisions which require careful strategy and action. Yet today Mercury's good (so-called minor) aspects with Jupiter and Neptune suggest optimism and prosperous potentials, even in connection with real estate or rentals. Choices in connection with your home are straightening out, even more tomorrow.
Intensity of passion: this could be compelling, probably of a sexual nature, or it could come out in sports or games as a passion to win. You may be lucky in either domain, finding your powers more effective than you had realized. You are resourceful and penetrate to essentials speedily.
Strength develops in interpersonal relations, as if two or more were developing energies together to meet a common foe or rise above obstacles. There is something fateful or destiny-laden in this. Today would be slightly better, or probably with less pitfalls, although people will be more touchy and worried than usual on both days.
As in gardening, old things have to be changed for new ones to develop. You might reach certain judgments which seem decisive today, or they become decisive by the very nature of things or the logic of events.
The changes in the subconscious mind affecting friendship and romance are hardly discernible by us until they bloom mysteriously. Some of that is going on today, with romance in the air, perhaps flirtatious, unfaithful, idiosyncratic, or unreliable. Still it brings out the glory of interpersonal contact and appreciation.

All of these trends could mingle. Let's look at a specific time, when the moon squares Venus: 5:47p PT | 8:47p ET | 1:47a(Su) UT. Give this an "orb" of at least two hours in both directions and see what is happening with you at that time of the day. It could be aesthetic, hedonistic, erotic, or just interesting; something "gets you going." There could be elements of repulsion as well as of attraction: a peculiar mixture of both. To get into the spirit of this it would be better not to take yourself or your opinions too seriously. Your ethics, yes, but perhaps your basic ethics needs to make room for situational ethics when considering the actions or attitudes of others, who are dong the best they know how. Things may seem indefinite, confused, or falling-apart until the moon enters Virgo at 3:11p PT | 6:11p ET | 11:11p UT. The moon is void-of-course during part of that time or, before that, opposed to Neptune. It is not "good for nothing" but good for contemplating Nothing perhaps, or rather the Supreme One. Other than that, probably routine matters are best, those of which you have no doubt.
Laws of nature are essential to the understanding of human obligations, that is, laws of Nature or spiritual laws. Then accidental happenings or upsets will not be so disturbing. You could tap into ancestry in your mind and feelings.
Self-centered egotism and vanity are evident in some. They know what is best, they are sure. Others may not think so. A fine-chiseled discernment is necessary to determine what is true and what is false, what is upbuilding and what is detrimental.You can come home to yourself in your mind and spirit. Then you are not flustered by uncertainties.
The large number of septiles in the sky, six as of today, suggest that Fate is working itself out in our lives, that is, necessary things happen which are part of our inborn destiny or which direct us toward it. We are still free, to work with those corrective and determinative forces or to resist them, and also to work with them positively or work with them in a way which distorts their intent---which would mean we would have to face the same situations again and again. Self-will can be wrong. It can also be good if it is allied with the Supreme Will. You know which by the results, though those might be delayed.
People are in love with themselves, and that is not always bad. Self-appreciation may be a gift of G*d. When it includes other-appreciation it is even better. You may appreciate also your ancestors, or incorporeal ancestors who affiliate with you through a group or spiritual association. What homes have you lived in which are still a part of your consciousness? You can visit those dwellings in reverie and find that the ghosts which welcome you are beneficent. Much that was glorious in your youth can be revived and made a part of your living, stimulating personality.
The part of the day before the time in paragraph 1 is more romantic and dreamy and you may realize you are idealizing people or letting yourself go gaga over them. After that time you will be more realistic and intellectual, even though it is Friday evening. You want companions but expect them to agree with you and if they don't you are hurt.
If a lot of things seem vacuous or lose their interest, perhaps you are like the cat which likes to hide in the closet for a while. You can do that. You are waiting for something. Maybe a mouse will stroll by. Or maybe when you come out you will find that something you had wanted is now available. Or even if it isn't, you can turn to your deep soul or to G*d and pray. Both your hopes and your plans should be getting clearer: and what a relief that can be.
However (I as well as you are tired of "howevers;" however, we must endure them so long as we live in what the medievals called the sublunar world, the world which "feeds the moon" according to Gurdgieff and Ouspensky) we are in the |stressful or worrisome third of this week| Tuesday and Wednesday. While mentally (Mercury) you are seeing things clearly, and what a relief, emotionally (Moon) you are facing the obstacles you need to overcome to carry out your plans. Worry is one of your enemies. Or, let's say, just enough worry to show you what you need to do is good, but no more.

The much-ballyhooed (by me) and long-awaited Bright Hermetic Epoch begins tomorrow, Tuesday. (I could calculate the exact time but that might not be terribly helpful; perhaps I will for tomorrow's forecast.) An astrological friend mentioned how things seem to drag on during the Dark Epoch, as if it were an eternity. Yes, which is another reason more suicides and homicides (I am convinced) occur during that time. People feel that things are never going to get better, never going to change, so they end their lives or someone else's. We all know about the events of the past week and there was, among the famous or infamous, the suicide of Mark Madoff earlier within this epoch. It can be a deeply introspective time, when we view things perhaps in the light of eternity. That is why it is important to remain optimistic.
Technically, today (Monday) is the last day of the Dark Epoch until the next one begins on March 18 (this Bright Epoch happens to be exactly two calendar months). As I have indicated, we are already more or less in the new Epoch because of helpful astrological aspects, so some of your plans have doubtless been straightened out wonderfully, even if not finalized. And today should continue that process.
There is a hard edge to the day which might be called a little sad, or else just realistic; you are harboring plans within yourself and a little worried about them. This includes connections to people, friends and those at a distance, both younger and older. Your anticipations are sanguine but much needs to be worked out. It would be good to make sure you aren't being oversensitive to people or what they may be thinking.

Much seems to be coming together profitably and promisingly. And I do not think that is a vague promise---I think you will see just what it means for you.

Let's take a look at the week ahead. I am quite impressed with the possibilities in it. I have been assiduously studying weekly charts for a long time, decades in fact, and tried various methods. I think I am closing in on the best ones. And, finally, I am quite convinced that the astrological week begins on Saturday, not Sunday or Monday. This may seem peculiar, but the ancient Hebrews were right to recognize Saturday as a special day. They may have considered it the end of a week, but the important point was that it was the intercalary day between weeks. I see it as the beginning of a new week because, observably, over and over, I feel, see, and experience it as the change point; something new begins on Saturdays, even if it is often subjective rather than objective.
This week lasting through Friday January 14 looks very good to me. I am pleased. It is true we are not yet fully in the Bright Hermetic Epoch, beginning on the 18th, but the problems of that slow Mercury are getting less with each day, at least theoretically. I think that problems you have been working out in your mind for the past several weeks are becoming clear to you and, finally, you know what to do. Is it not so?
The fact that Mercury is still relatively slow means you do not have to rush to implement your new plans because maybe there are still details which are uncertain. But neither is there any need to hold back this week when you feel confident. A multitude of helpful aspects fill the skies. What was hard, last week, was the exact square of the sun with Saturn. That remains with us this week but is receding. On Friday I went grocery shopping and was amazed at how glum and, in fact, sad or even hostile people seemed. It was the beginning of a weekend yet the mass mood was way down. I then looked at the daily chart and realized that when the sun is square Saturn by less than two or three degrees, things can be quite harsh. I saw this many years ago when I went on a planned vacation at a time I thought was near-perfect, but had many troubles. I realized that the square of the sun and Saturn is a very major aspect which can override many others going on at the same time. I think we will be recovering from it during the coming week. It tends to toughen character and make us more skeptical of our plans, therefore more careful, and that can be all to the good.
The sextiles of the sun and Mars in Capricorn with Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces show that business is humming. I realize many are still out of work, so the fact that business conditions are getting better seems to help the well-off more than those lacking appropriate jobs. Still, all should feel a boost this week in one way or another.
The squares of Mercury with Jupiter and Uranus are a difficult note but one which can be handled well if you are sure not to jump to big conclusions too quickly, whether about your finances or other people or political and religious matters. People can be unreasonable under these two aspects. They think they know more than they do, or depend on bad judgment of themselves or someone else. They can just be flat-out wrong. So, since this is going on in the last week of the Dark Epoch, it is well to be cautious about precipitate judgments.
Finally, the social news: Venus and Mars are interacting in a big way which could be quite dramatic. The important relationships in your life are going to come out in ways which show you amazing things. Also, this could be new connections with people, or casual friendships which blossom or reveal facets you hadn't suspected; it does not have to be a heavy relationship, although I would say married couples or other serious couples will find out remarkable things about each other. This would be exhilarating more likely than disturbing. What is going on is a septile aspect between these male and female planets. That is fateful. You may not have to do anything to make it happen; it will happen regardless. So I am not sure about the appropriate advice. Just be on the alert. I might suggest that it could be a good time to "court" someone or pursue someone, but that might be the wrong advice because it is more likely that what happens just happens, so being alert to the potentials would probably be better than trying to force something to happen. You will have to figure all that out for yourself. When you feel without doubt that it is time to nurture a friendship or relationship, it is.

I took a day off on Epiphany, January 6, the day the Wise Men, identified as "astrologers" by the New English Bible, are said to have arrived at the birthplace of Jesus. So I did not write a forecast for January 7, Friday, which is the Orthodox Christmas. In accord with the forecast for Thursday, I found myself preoccupied with important business that day and by the time I was ready to write Friday's forecast, it was too late.
Saturday looks like a quite smooth day, the moon advancing toward a sextile with the sun, from Pisces to Capricorn. There is something deeply religious, or else humanitarian, or both, in this combination; a willingness to go all out to help people at a spiritual level without losing sight of the practicalities in which they are involved.
Something is going on concerning the relation of temporal to spiritual powers, that is, of the government to the clergy, mullahs or rabbis. This is an age-old process, actually less virulent now than in past centuries.
Power and mastery sometimes have to be developed from a position of aloneness or solitude.
Repeating things you have done many times is necessary in the spiritual life. This might be ritual, or ritualistic study or exercise, but the regularity is essential. Some sorts of ritual, or regularly repeated study, can lead to adeptship.
The sun's square with Saturn brings out an undaunted and impassive quality, usually after suffering which evokes just that. Perhaps one sees into some of one's abnormalities, or what one thought was normal starts to seem abnormal when one views it with greater objectivity. Many are focused on wealth, career, gain: practical approaches to success.

Yesterday I gave the time of the end of the |stressful or worrisome third of the week|, a little before noon Pacific Time, a little before 3 p.m. Eastern Time, later in Europe. That is the technical delineation. You may not exactly be jumping for joy, because other lunar aspects are inconclusive, though good for normal activity.

This week starts with the |difficult or stressful third| lasting until Wednesday afternoon in the Eastern Hemisphere (Wednesday evening in Europe). I will try to make clear what that means for today.
There is a toughness, either in yourself, someone else, or both, so there can be clashes of will. Who is going to dominate? You are using rigid self-control to pursue ambitions. There is nothing wrong in that in and of itself. Sometimes you will keep your own counsel, in other words, not let on what you are thinking, in order to gain power slowly without tipping your hand.
Have you been noticing lately how your mind is developing very solid ideas and procedures? How you are finally getting clarified structure in some things you are organizing, or others you are studying? That is the help of Mercury sextile Saturn which has been with us since December 21, lasting through January 9, stronger now because Mercury is direct. That does not mean you have the complete story, because the Bright Hermetic Epoch does not start until January 18. But you are satisfied that some things are coming together.
You have a desire for popularity, partly through writing, speaking or teaching, which might have elements of controversy yet you feel that in your seclusion you are linked with high souls whose truth will override the errors of those who oppose you. It is interesting how controversy seems to surround great souls, such as Socrates and Jesus, Gandhi and now Aung San Suu Kyi and other heroes or heroines of human rights. If this is not your lot you are either lucky, protected by divine grace, or so unprincipled that you stand for nothing important. As it is, even in a minor role you may serve some more than yourself. You carry the torch you then pass on to someone equally fit. Ancient sources of knowledge and skill become contemporary when you implement them.
The trines of Venus with both Jupiter and Uranus are beneficent and intense. This will be luck for many. Material prosperity enables you to spread your influence for good further and further. Much philanthropy is going on; it is even de rigeur among the wealthy. They feel it is boring to languish in their prosperity, but dramatically thrilling to be intrepid for a cause. (That some of this might be self-serving goes without saying, but then, who would be faultless?) They rally their ranks and persuade others to enlist, and some good at least is accomplished, as well as a noble example for all to emulate.
