}Through Confusion Toward Connection{

Moaning about the hard aspects doesn't help, maybe, except that "misery loves company;" so if you realize what some of the difficult aspects mean, you may feel better, not blaming yourself or your own stars so much for what is going on, seeing that it is partly a general condition, and then feeling more kindly toward others who are going through problems similar to yours.

Well, you could do that quite liberally now! It's not an impossible time; but the oil spill, the flooding in Nashville, the peculiar semi-terrorist attack which failed in Times Square, the banking debates in Congress, and on and on are symptoms of the prevailing aspects. I could mention also the financial problems of Greece racking all of Europe and, as I write, the U. S. financial markets also. So if your own life has its hassles, you are only part of the general condition working out. Only from the spiritual level can all this make sense. Only from what Sri Aurobindo called the Overmind, or better yet the Supermind, could one see how it all fits together.

Astrology is a mental approach to that.

It's interesting that when Congress interrogated the guys from Goldman Sachs, in order to design some kind of legislation, Mercury in Taurus (money) was square Mars in Leo (government, and Obama's sun-sign). Now this week Treasury Secretary Geithner is making a pitch for a special temporary tax on banks to recoup costs of the bail-out. And now it is the sun rather than Mercury which is exactly square Mars, again from Taurus to Leo. All this adds up to astrological sense. I do not know how his proposed tax will play in Congress or what the ultimate result will be. The Mercury-retrograde period (up to a week from today, Wednesday) is good for putting ideas on the table and examining them; not so good for getting them settled, because it is a learning or reviewing stage of things.

It is well to apply that information to what is going on in your own life-process. You can keep on pondering your decisions rather than jump on one prematurely. (Unless, of course, the logic of events and of your own mind shows you a good temporary agenda.) Waiting is hard; sometimes necessary. Internal or spiritual work is sometimes what needs to be done more than external endeavor.

Saturn quincunx Neptune could be impacting a relationship for you. You are dealing with the shady side of someone important to you. It is almost impossible to diagnose what is going on there. So you can (a) be patient and (b) reach out toward a spiritual solution, making G*d your partner first rather than a fallible finite human being. Insofar as that human being is manifesting Soul, he or she will act in accord with what G*d wants for you.

I've been giving various views on the Saturn-Uranus opposition, in effect from September 2008 to October 2010, but exact again now (the two planets play tag, moving backward and forward from our geocentric perspective). Today let's consider Robert Pelletier's take on it: "When you gain a position of authority, be careful not to subvert it by being officious. You tend to arouse the resentment of your subordinates, who will do their best to 'sandbag' you, and you will be defenseless against this. But you will also feel aggressive toward your superiors, who will prey on you."

Well, that is a worse-case scenario, useful as a warning. Further, says Pelletier: "Put your 'know-it-all' attitude on the shelf until you do know what's what; then you will use your knowledge with humility." This is specially applicable now while Mercury is retrograde.

Who has been causing trouble for you? More than one? Who is the worst? This is sun square Mars, exact within one degree. When people play out (or act out) their problems they can be a nuisance, annoyance, or worse. Usually they are not deliberately malicious but perhaps subconsciously so, or else they are asserting what they think is their right but it conflicts with what seems your right. Today, with the moon hitting both planets by hard aspect, this could be tough. Pelletier says of this, "observe and learn how others conduct themselves under pressure." He points out that there is a need for freedom but also a need to invest oneself in a project, so that one needs to evaluate priorities carefully and be willing to stick with the long-range program.

The trine of Mercury with Pluto is helpful, Mercury going backward so it is good for review, re-appraisal, re-thinking of all sorts. You could talk to someone in a power-position and convince her or him of something important and far-reaching. He or she would be willing and able to review past reports or results; see what you are driving at and readjust perspective, making things better for you when future decisions are made.

It may be hard to sense what Venus's sextile with Mars, now less than two degrees, means. It will be exact the rest of this week, and will last by a longer orb through May 20. Theoretically a happy state of affairs between the sexes, or in any romance or infatuation, it can be subjective at times rather than objective, as in daydreams, fantasies, and entertainment. If it is more objective for you it includes a chance for good connections with someone you like. This could be specially true in the afternoon and early evening (in the Western Hemisphere; in the evening further East).
