Artistry and music are possible on a Friday, ruled by Venus, even though we are in the |difficult third of the week| today and tomorrow. Therefore they can be grouchy and it is well to be specially patient with them and oneself.
Another way this comes out, on a party day, is that people feel inwardly so miserable that they determine intensely to have a good time to counteract the bad mood, so they party big-time; then end up with a headache or fistfight or lovers' quarrel on their hands. I have seen this happen countless times. A neighbor once threw a party almost regularly during the |difficult third|. I never talked with him about this because I knew he would not heed my advice. His parties started out well but ended with arguments, yelling and bitter feelings. When the |difficult third| moved to earlier in the week, he moved his parties also to those days, all without knowing anything about astrology. It was a compulsion to seek relief from the |touchy third| but the |soul-searching third| trumped his well-intentioned parties. And people say astrology is based on blind belief! No, for me it is based on such careful daily observation for a period of decades.
However, for him in his situation, perhaps this was exactly the right thing to do. It had to be done, as it were. So, for today, I do not say "stay home and brood" but take with you wherever you go an awareness of what I said above. It will help you prevent things from getting out of hand. You and others are likely to be paranoid or hypersensitive without realizing it.
The male gene often wants to start a fight just to see what will happen, to challenge another male and objectify grudges and intense feelings. This can be expected today or tonight. But for those who can take a higher view, all this can be an interesting psychodrama (so long as no one gets seriously hurt).

Western movies, crime thrillers and adventure stories give us vicarious thrills we really would not rather have directly if the truth were told. But the oil spill is a very real sort of drama with good guys and bad guys. The murderous conspiracy, if such it were, continues while the good and bad guys fight it out. Of course not everyone agrees who is which. The moon in Scorpio, probably the sign of petroleum (as well as of crises, death, and the prevention of death), today and Wednesday hints that the showdown is at hand. Mercury trine Pluto, both in earth signs, hints at the furious research BP and the government are engaged in to find the best method of containment. As Mercury gains speed and moves toward a trine with Saturn, also in an earth sign (while concurrently sextile Jupiter and Pluto in Pisces sign of the sea), perhaps the best solution possible will be coming to light. These helpful aspects will be gaining strenth, exact by June 5th-11th.
This could be a newsy day, with gossip floating around. If your neighbors’ lives don’t interest you, the lives of those glamorous or famous may.
You may note in others or yourself the greed that wants to fight for wealth, compete for a prize or win at a gamble. This may not be unhealthy. It is the carrot that keeps the donkey trotting. The oil spill occurred April 20, within the Dark Hermetic Epoch, which began April 4 and ends May 28 (Friday). On Sunday I see in the New York Times:
This is in accord with the Hermetic pattern (the Mercury cycle), whether they are able to begin on Wednesday or later. In other words, things are delayed, procedures are in doubt, and decisions hard and often wrong during the Dark Epoch. So I hope you (and I) will be able to sort things out better in our lives during June and July (the Bright Epoch begins Friday and ends July 31).
Another reason why this new attempt to plug the leak might be delayed to Wednesday is that today (Monday) and Tuesday the moon is in the Via Combusta. This is a time when morale droops or question marks pop up about everything. But let us emphasize positive potentials:
There can be cooperation with anyone with whom you now or in the past have shared living space. There can be interesting mapping of proposed travel. You also want to get your household situation in shape and could make serious progress with that.
You may be in contact with, or think about, someone in a position of trust or authority. You do not see eye to eye exactly; yet are pondering what your differences mean and how to bridge a gap in understanding to make things more harmonious.
I do not plan to see the final episode of Lost tonight (Sunday as I write), which is a 2.5-hour blockbuster, but it's interesting that at 9:26p PT | 12:26a(M) ET | 4:26a(M) UT the moon enters the Via Combusta---the "lost" section of the zodiac (until Wednesday). I recently subscribed to the weekly edition of the Christian Science Monitor which is better-edited (and more of a pleasure to read) than it has been in years. Some insist on The Economist. The Guardian Weekly is good in some ways but hardly complete in any sense, and the same or more so for The Week, useful but superficial. Foreign Affairs probably ought to be read by everyone. You just cannot rely on CNN or MSNBC to give you all you need to perceive. I do not have a total answer. And not fragmentary blogs and bits and pieces of questionable information on the Internet. I ought to read more books on current events written in the past few years--avoiding, of course, the more extreme (and therefore twisted and unreliable) productions from right or left.
One problem is that anyone who could write a good summary of "what went on in the world last week" would have to have an enormous brain capacity and intellect and spend most of his time absorbing information from hundreds of sources to regurgitate in clearer summary patterns. I do not know anyone who can do, or does, that! So we have to do it ourselves.
You may observe, or be in contact with, or love, or admire, or despise or ignore someone who is superficially prosperous, inclined to play with life because enabled so to do by Fate or smiling destiny. Such people are often objects of envy.
Or you may find yourself in that position at certain moments when you feel secure and able to have some fun.

The oil spill remains major news. One writer in the New York Times, an expert on such things, suggested that maybe the best thing to be done would be: Nothing. Nothing at all. He pointed out the dangers of chemical dispersants and of other methods of containment, and concluded with the belief that letting Nature take care of it might be best. Of course, stopping or capping it seems imperative whenever and however that is possible.
I mention the “Nothing at all” solution as significant, because the “tangle” of the planets in a Grand Square, plus the remainder of the Dark Hermetic Epoch until May 28, suggest that in your personal affairs perhaps “nothing at all” is a good solution in some cases. That does not mean resting in a hammock, although it might, but staying with what has proved itself in the past rather than jumping to the tune of events which are indecipherable at base. Maybe you are trying to do too much in some cases. Solution A merely contradicts solution B, so if you try one for an hour and the other for an hour, you are back to where you started.
There are strata in the geosphere, and strata in your saving or investments, so you could investigate those and make sure you understand which stratum is available for spending and which is not.
Who is it who is greater than you, who supports and uplifts you, granting you shelter and sustenance? This individual, perhaps a spiritual guide, is important and not to be forgotten when most needed.
It is important to do what you can to prevent violence. One may not know which way to turn to do that, there is so much injustice in the world. Governments, which are supposed to curtail individual or criminal violence, are too often guilty of it themselves, in fact the worst perpetrators when war, persecution, torture and unjust imprisonment are added up. Charitable giving ought to include those fighting such injustice, as Human Rights Watch and the International Rescue Committee.
Many things offer themselves for entertainment. Some are merely silly, when viewed from your deeper soul perspective, and these you could profitably drop. Some individuals who are friendly in their own way may be pleasant as temporary companions, but if you spend too much time with them their false or jejune notions could infect you.

There is a graceful quality in some of your connections, girlish or decorative. They can be a welcome retreat from too much questionable “business.”
You may note people who seem lonely, lost, abandoned. They are indeed lovelorn. They feel betrayed by the ones who meant most to them. Yet relief can be found. Your silent or verbal kindness may help, even if seemingly rejected.

Have you noticed that no one seems to know what they are doing?
We are still in the Dark Hermetic Epoch until May 28, as pointed out her ad nauseam. But it needs pointing out.
I have been noting in group work of various kinds that people do not show up, don’t do what they said they’d do, and get off on tangents or discussions and arguments about things they never did or will never do, and on and on. It is a mess.
This is typical of the Dark Hermetic Epoch, which does not seem to decrease in intensity as we move toward its end. That may be partly because of other factors such as Venus square Jupiter, Uranus and Saturn; the sun square Neptune and Mars; Pluto square Uranus and Jupite; Saturn opposite both Uranus and Jupiter. It’s a tangle in the sky. Just keeping oneself current with current necessities may seem enough.
Thursday gives us a nice sextile of the moon with Venus, plus trines with Mercury and Pluto, which should help us recover poise: a bit of social finesse and good fellowship, harder to find yesterday. You may be understanding inwardly more of what your next Bright Epoch agenda will be (May 28 through July 31). This is the time, the next week, to get it in order as much as you can, though I would guess considerably further adjustments will make sense to you after the period begins.

I don't know what you're going through, but as I write on Tuesday things seem complex and confusing. Killings in Kabul. Sanctions against Iran. Germany putting a partial stop to short-trading as well as a tax on traders to pay for the Greece bailout. Salazar slapping oil drillers with new protective procedures, yet admitting weaknesses in his oversight. Wall-Mart sales falling. The Market falling.
And the symbol for Venus (by Charubel the Welsh clairvoyant) is "A man flogging a boy with a horsewhip." Sounds about right.
And today (Wednesday) his symbol for that planet is "An execution." Let us hope the man with the horsewhip is the one executed. Or not.
This can all be poignant because Venus is square Saturn, Uranus, and Jupiter. More favorably, this is a turning point. When things "hit hit the fan" there can be a change in procedures which is salutary.
Sometimes one does not know who is master and who slave; or the slave turns out to master the master; and on and on. So it is dangerous to drive someone too hard, because one is earning karma in one direction or another. On the other hand, both driving and being driven can be stages in a necessary evolutionary process.
Passionate love, for now, is shy. Shy passions may be the most irresistible.
Ultimate benefits come when one does not expect them. The messenger of boons may seem the messenger of doom. The tough assignment turns out the path to victory.
When you face things as they are, you recover to a degree from yesterday's and today's turmoil. This involves sensing a high mystery it serves.

At this turning point of a fresh lunar cycle plus the early beginnings of a fresh Mercury cycle, let's take a longer-term look at prevailing aspects:
The New Moon of last evening helps get things moving a little, but much remains indefinite. The opposition of Jupiter and Saturn, increasing daily, is somewhat morose. (It lasts for a long time, through September 27.) You and others are restless and discontented. To attain inner peace it may be necessary to give up certain things. Realizing that one does not need something one had set one's hopes on is hard. Sometimes it merely needs to be postponed. Other times is needs to be dropped completely in favor of something else which is more in accord with one's destiny, and therefore better even if it doesn't seem so at first.
Qualities of genius within you, what you are able to do which no one else seems able to do or understand, are pressured by the Saturn-Uranus opposition to find outlets "acceptable" to the world at large and this could make you feel partially defeated. "They" don't see your skills and plans the way you do. As I elucidated last week, this aspect lasts two whole years until October this year. It began in September 2008. It has a lot to do with the continuing economic turmoil. By now you are probably finding your place within all that, but that "place" requires a great deal of patience until your fortunes eventually stabilize.
You may have been tracking, recently, someone who is or has been dishonest, tricky or evasive. Under-the-table deals come to light, at some point, to the discomfort of the one fingered. So there is shame, or else blame toward one who feels no shame. Or this might just be the evasive behavior of someone you thought was a friend. You may wish he or she would state what is on his mind rather than hide it.
The square of Venus and Saturn (May 10-25) is somber and serious. It does not deny love or pleasure but makes them more self-conscious and concern-ridden. It is a "Whom do you trust?" aspect. You tend to rely on and believe in long-term trusted friends, unless you feel they have deserted you. Sometimes it is hard to know. It is well to be aware that other people will be feeling this and doubting everyone and everything, including you, so if they are abrupt or moody or touchy you can give them some slack. They probably think you are the touchy one.
Details of learning or study are accented as something you have been struggling to set in order. You can do it even if the process is tedious.

At this turning point of a fresh lunar cycle plus the early beginnings of a fresh Mercury cycle, let's take a longer-term look at prevailing aspects:
The New Moon of last evening helps get things moving a little, but much remains indefinite. The opposition of Jupiter and Saturn, increasing daily, is somewhat morose. (It lasts for a long time, through September 27.) You and others are restless and discontented. To attain inner peace it may be necessary to give up certain things. Realizing that one does not need something one had set one's hopes on is hard. Sometimes it merely needs to be postponed. Other times is needs to be dropped completely in favor of something else which is more in accord with one's destiny, and therefore better even if it doesn't seem so at first.
Qualities of genius within you, what you are able to do which no one else seems able to do or understand, are pressured by the Saturn-Uranus opposition to find outlets "acceptable" to the world at large and this could make you feel partially defeated. "They" don't see your skills and plans the way you do. As I elucidated last week, this aspect lasts two whole years until October this year. It began in September 2008. It has a lot to do with the continuing economic turmoil. By now you are probably finding your place within all that, but that "place" requires a great deal of patience until your fortunes eventually stabilize.
You may have been tracking, recently, someone who is or has been dishonest, tricky or evasive. Under-the-table deals come to light, at some point, to the discomfort of the one fingered. So there is shame, or else blame toward one who feels no shame. Or this might just be the evasive behavior of someone you thought was a friend. You may wish he or she would state what is on his mind rather than hide it.
The square of Venus and Saturn (May 10-25) is somber and serious. It does not deny love or pleasure but makes them more self-conscious and concern-ridden. It is a "Whom do you trust?" aspect. You tend to rely on and believe in long-term trusted friends, unless you feel they have deserted you. Sometimes it is hard to know. It is well to be aware that other people will be feeling this and doubting everyone and everything, including you, so if they are abrupt or moody or touchy you can give them some slack. They probably think you are the touchy one.
Details of learning or study are accented as something you have been struggling to set in order. You can do it even if the process is tedious.
Your feelings may have been directed toward someone at a distance who seems to clash with you, yet fascinate you. You wonder if this person is really an enemy, or friend in disguise, or neither. So you drop him or her, but then find that he or she keeps coming back into your consciousness. Something can be learned here which is contrary to your predilections.

(And that ain’t sappy.) The New Moon of Taurus arrives at 6:05p PT | 9:05p ET | 1:05a(F) UT. Before that we are in a coasting period, more or less. You can do things which are surprising and creative. But it is probably too early to push major projects in an outward way, that is, for the approval or cooperation of other people. They too are involved in their inner processes and personal creativity, more than yours. Tentative motion in a desired direction is good, not firm decisions yet.
Even after the New Moon, I would go slow with major projects, that is, slow with the outward social or business side of them. The period between Mercury’s direct (but very slow) motion (Wednesday the 12th) and the Bright Hermetic Epoch’s beginning (May 28) is a time for forward but careful development of things you want to get in motion. You will sense when it is time to forward something or project it for someone else’s consideration, and when it is better to hold back yet. You need to trust your intuition, and be willing to wait when you make an offer or proposition and get no response. You do not have to be totally timid, yet keep in mind that some things are still tentative. People may be slow or ambiguous in responding to your desires. Beginning the 28th, it is full steam ahead.
What happened in the U.K. is instructive in this regard. The new government got under weigh on the 11th, just before Mercury turned direct early on the 12th. This does not doom the peculiar alliance between the Tories and the Liberal Democrats, but shows what everyone knows: it is a strange and awkward alliance. It had to be done because people do not know astrology yet. If they did, governments would not hold elections while Mercury is retrograde!
Although you feel despondent and sad part of the time, you can recover. You may feel that some have “used” you or “used you up.” This is one of those hard places everyone encounters, when we feel underpaid or underappreciated or even spat upon or misused by those we have served or been kind to. Further, there are differences of viewpoint which can be galling. You can get through this. You can see the ungrateful side of people and yet maintain faith in them by remembering what has been good about them.
You are sensitive to so many things which are subconscious, even racial (human-race) factors beyond your control, affecting all of us on inner levels of consciousness. It seems that now the “mass consciousness” is becoming truly global, but nationalism’s death is slow and gasping.
There are so many possibilities and opportunities opening up, slowly, that you may not know which way to turn. I would say, let your inner consciousness gently point which to pursue or accept first. You do not need to hurry. You are getting a benediction for a coming month of progress.
This has to do with finances and career as well as other areas of life. As the Sibyl said to Aeneas, “Yield not to disasters, but press onward the more bravely.”

I am not happy with Elena Kagan, Obama's choice for the Supreme Court. My reasons may be partly correct, partly incorrect or subjective, but I just am not happy with her. (She was chosen by the President while Mercury is retrograde, in other words, hardly progressive.)
My first thought (sorry, this is not my better self) was "Why do female Supreme Court justices have to be so ugly?" Not nice, but I doubt any of those ladies will read this report. Okay, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I am sure her family and friends find Ms. Kagan beautiful in her own way. She has Venus square Saturn in her birth-chart. So does Sonia Sotomayor. I doubt that either would win a beauty contest. Women with harsh aspects between Venus and Saturn usually feel they have a beauty problem throughout their lives. Or a charm problem. Yet they can be highly successful, and some of them even end up as movie stars. Oprah Winfrey is one who succeeded enormously, though I would not call her a glamorpuss. It is a good aspect for discipline and concentrated work. Often that gives the life-fulfillment other women get through beauty and charm. One might say the gods saddle some with this aspect in order to force them to turn their energies beyond the superficial. Men with the aspect may be more fortunate, since they are not expected to be glamorous in the same way (though men with a well-aspected Venus are indeed glamorous). Males with Venus square, opposed, or conjoined to Saturn include George Bush Sr., Richard Nixon, and Robert McNamara. You will note that all three were war-mongers. Justices of the Supreme Court are not paid to be nice people, either. They are dealing with issues in which people will be sentenced to life in prison or death or some lesser yet harsh punishment. Venus, the love-goddess, forced to confront Saturn has to be "tough love" if that is still really love, and perhaps it can be in some cases. I would guess one would find a great many police officers of either sex with this aspect. Some day statisticians will find this out, when they outgrow their inane prejudice against astrology.
All this is appropriate now because Venus has begun her hard aspect with Saturn (which happens on average four times a year), this time a square. It is in effect (by ten-degree orb) from May 10 through May 25. Elena Kagan was nominated on the first day of this period. She is not going to be a popular choice. Neither the Left nor the Right are happy with her. She is as popular as stale bread.

Quite amazingly, without knowing it Brooks has delineated one meaning of Pluto-in-Virgo, which is the position of Kagan's Pluto. She will be, if confirmed, the youngest justice on the Court and the only one with Pluto in Virgo, wherein that planet domiciled from June 1958 to October 1971. (Kagan's birthdate: April 28, 1960.) Most of the remaining justices have Pluto in Leo, unless they are over the age of 70 (then it would be Pluto in Cancer). Pluto has an amazing way of marking off the generations. Pluto-in-Leo people (August 1938 to June 1958) have strong convictions. Leo is the fixed fiery sign. It can be intensely ideological. This was the generation of the Vietnam War protesters. By contrast, the Pluto-in-Virgo generation is bland, conformist, scheming and . . . well, let David Brooks explain:

About a decade ago, one began to notice a profusion of Organization Kids at elite college campuses. These were bright students who had been formed by the meritocratic system placed in front of them. They had great grades, perfect teacher recommendations, broad extracurricular interests, admirable self-confidence and winning personalities.
If they had any flaw, it was that they often had a professional and strategic attitude toward life. They were not intellectual risk-takers. They regarded professors as bosses to be pleased rather than authorities to be challenged. As one admissions director told me at the time, they were prudential rather than poetic.
If you listen to people talk about Elena Kagan, it is striking how closely their descriptions hew to this personality type.
Yes, that is Pluto in Virgo! Prudential is one word for them. Strategic is another. If they regarded professors as bosses to be pleased, that is because Virgo is the sign of the servant. Toward professors or bosses they are prudential, subservient, and strategic. (There are other words for that, which kids used to hurl at each other in grade school.)
Brooks again (who, born August 11, 1961, is in the Pluto-in-Virgo generation--takes one to know one!--but has the sun, moon, Mercury and Uranus in Leo so is an honorary member of the Pluto-in-Leo generation, which may be why he was hired by the Times):
She does not seem to be one who leaps into a fray when the consequences might be unpredictable. “She was one of the most strategic people I’ve ever met, and that’s true across lots of aspects of her life,” John Palfrey, a Harvard law professor, told The Times. “She is very effective at playing her cards in every setting I’ve seen.”

This is self-explanatory if one understands at all the Virgo temperament. A whole generation has it! When they were walking the campus during the Reagan era I once, infuriated with their inability to take a stand against authority on anything, shouted at them "You are just robots for Reagan!" They looked at me with blank stares as if they had no comprehension of what I was saying. "What, we could be something other than robots?"
I am afraid that is what we are up against with Elena Kagan.
If anyone from that generation is reading this, I invite your comments and objections. Though you probably will not make them. Even though I am not your boss or professor and you have nothing to fear from me, you will maintain your cautionary silence.
Brooks: What we have is a person whose career has dovetailed with the incentives presented by the confirmation system, a system that punishes creativity and rewards caginess.
Those two words sum up the difference between the Pluto-in-Leo generation (Creative!) and the Pluto-in-Virgo generation (Cagey!).
Yes, this is a broad generalization. It can be modified by individual birth-charts. But note how true it is in the latest nominee for our highest Court.
I truly wonder what nominee will emerge a decade or two from now when the Pluto-in-Libra generation comes of age. The scales of justice prominently displayed on thousands of courthouses is their symbol.
As for Wednesday: Still we are in the waning moon, until late morning Thursday. Calm down, go slow, get rest. Stick with what is most comfortable or natural for you. Mercury turned direct last night (Tuesday evening) but is moving at a snail's pace; the Dark Hermetic Epoch continues. However, note what thoughts are coming to you on Tuesday and Wednesday. At Mercury's station (motionlessness), we are likely to get helpful intimations from super-mental intuition. You feel this is a turning point. Don't you? (I never hear from anybody! As if I were shouting at a wall.) Take your time, but note, or write down, the suggestions and ideas or tentative plans which come to you as if floating down from heaven.

The moon finishes its transit of Aries today. The Part of Fortune is in the 12th house, that is, the moon is declining in apparent size until the New Moon Thursday evening. This is a time for extra rest, especially since Mercury remains retrograde. It turns direct this evening (Tuesday) at 3:28p PT | 6:28p ET | 10:28p UT. But don't expect things to be suddenly brighter and easier. The Dark Hermetic Epoch continues until May 28.
So today is a winding-down period, not a building-up period. I suppose all the Puritans, moralists, and believers in the Work Ethic would condemn me for saying "take it easy" but I'll say it anyway. Obviously if you have a job you have to do it. But you can still "take it easy" in the sense of doing nothing unnecessary, which would more likely make things worse than better. Imagine yourself to be a yogi sitting in a cave. You are linking with something beyond the time-process, something everlasting. This does not deny or negate the time-process, but is a needed vacation from it.
A lot is gentle and easy. Love is here, somehow or other, lurking or hiding or peeking out. It is not overt and dramatic. Venus is beginning her difficult square with Saturn, though still in a sextile with Mars. Love is tested, but that does not mean it is absent. It can grow stronger through the buffeting it endures. This will be in your partnership, if you have a partner. If not, it is more subtle, perhaps entirely on the spiritual level. What Sri Aurobindo has written about love given to the Divine and received from the Divine is utterly extraordinary and life-redeeming (in his work The Synthesis of Yoga).

*Reflective Transition Within Friendship*
The friendships and associations you are developing seem recherche or peculiar, or both; perhaps with famous people, whether you actually see them or write to them or think about them. You are reaching out to them mentally because you are trying to figure out your own life and its thrust now and in the future. You get help from the actions and biographies of important or well-known individuals. You sense that your life is at a turning point. You have been there, done that, with a lot of things and now are ready for something different, although it may reflect what you have already done in a more mature manner.

What Secretary of Defense Gates is doing is incredibly brave, stalwart, and commendable. He has announced eloquently, quoting General Eisenhower, that he is going to cut back on excessive and pointless military spending. This is truly wonderful. As you know I have been pointing out the excessive military budget now for years and railing against it. Do we have a man in power who is finally going to do something about it? Gates sounds serious. Good. Let's support him however we can. The defense contractors are literally stealing from the taxpayers, billions upon billions. It is time that the public realized this and starting demanding a change. Ironically, the change seems to be coming from the top down. The public is much too indifferent to their duty of "civilian control of the military."
Rather than striving to be popular, you could focus on deep-rooted issues you are trying to control, some connected with home, some with money, others with maintaining healthy habits. Then when you've done your best, friendship will flow surprisingly as if without effort. You do not have to seek it when you have made yourself ready for it.
There could even be communion of souls at a high spiritual level.
Much may be revealed through your personal attractions, whether overtly erotic or more refined. You feel them, are aware of them, and think about them; thereby sensing mysteries beyond the reach of merely psychological or so-called scientific analysis. Love does not fit in a test tube and is not merely a product of the genetic code. It remains one of the great mysteries, befuddling geeks; understood only within the heart's intuition.

Ironically, the change seems to be coming from the top down. The public is much too indifferent to their duty of "civilian control of the military."
Rather than striving to be popular, you could focus on deep-rooted issues you are trying to control, some connected with home, some with money, others with maintaining healthy habits. Then when you've done your best, friendship will flow surprisingly as if without effort. You do not have to seek it when you have made yourself ready for it.
There could even be communion of souls at a high spiritual level.

The election in the U. K. which puts three parties jockeying for position in Parliament, satisfying no one and leaving things in limbo, is highly reminiscent of the 2000 U. S. Presidential election which was in limbo for more than a month until the Supreme Court’s disastrous decision to take the election away from the will of the people (the popular vote). Guess what? At the time of both elections Mercury was retrograde. Were I emperor, I would forbid any election anywhere in the world to take place while Mercury is retrograde. I might even extend the ban to the entire Dark Hermetic Epoch. Have no doubt, things would be much better. It seems that almost no one can make an intelligent decision while Mercury is retrograde. I would recommend to the Tories, Labour, and the Liberal Democrats: Dicker and dither and network and negotiate for another week at least, or maybe three weeks, rather than jump on any decisions.

It is hard to see why some individuals are consigned to lives of hard work with little reward. I myself worked for the minimum wage for seven years. I did not enjoy that but it taught me something about the value of unskilled demeaning work. It is extremely valuable and worth more than the miserable paychecks doled out to such unfortunates. It is exploitation, pure and simple. So I support increases in the minimum wage. (And if there were sensible rent control, it would definitely help, shifting some of the burden from employers and taxpayers to wealthy landlords.) Today you may come into contact with someone who is suffering such a problem, a miserable job with insufficient compensation.
You may also hear some rhetoric (not a derogatory word; recommended by Aristotle) about those who suffer exploitation. Injustice is real and the Right does not have a serious answer for it, except voluntary charity, which has definite limits, so some of the Left's agenda is very necessary. The question is the mix, which can only be determined by experience and constant evaluation. The cost of providing shelter for the homeless would be far less than the current cost of policing them and shunting them from here to there endlessly. To put it not-nicely, they would be out of people's hair at least. To put it nicely, they are human beings and most are constitutionally unable to work full-time.
Arguing or fighting continues to be a trend, which itself has to be fought if you are to maintain peace within yourself. Or, even better, rise above it through spiritual perception. People are worried about money and security, therefore quick to defend themselves even when the defense is pointless or would not help them or is aimed at totally unrelated issues.
You have your own peculiar way of understanding things, solitary. You could spend a lot of time investigating important matters while at home alone, whether through reading or Internet or informative movies. It might be well to write down your observations or tentative conclusions about things which concern you. These will not be definitive or final, but steps along the way to understanding. While doing this you feel alienated from people, though related to them subjectively.
Not everything requires commitment. You can commit yourself spiritually to the Highest as you envision It, Him or Her. To lower things you do not have to commit yourself in any but a tentative way, while determining their place in your life and program. Such discrimination is gentle and subtle in its beginnings.
Determining what is petty, not worth your worry, will help you recover poise. Then you will feel happier about people and enjoy them in entertaining or playful settings.
Somebody may want you to do more than you have an inclination to contribute. This summons toward regimented activity could reflect your soul's call to participate more thoroughly in something valuable.

Your high aspirations and motives don’t seem to be bringing you what you thought you could have gained in less time. Persistence is a key. You have the energy, which will go in a chosen channel if you persist in that channel.
When people look at you askance, you may think they are judging you falsely, and perhaps so. Yet in humility it would be well to consider if some of what they think against you might be true. You could benefit from such clues. Humble pie could be a good meal. It’s also called learning from experience. People will admire you more for your improvement than for your stubbornness.
A solitary trend is all right. It makes you suspicious of everyone. You observe them from a distance. A detective mentality. You are the only smart guy. Okay.

Moaning about the hard aspects doesn't help, maybe, except that "misery loves company;" so if you realize what some of the difficult aspects mean, you may feel better, not blaming yourself or your own stars so much for what is going on, seeing that it is partly a general condition, and then feeling more kindly toward others who are going through problems similar to yours.
Well, you could do that quite liberally now! It's not an impossible time; but the oil spill, the flooding in Nashville, the peculiar semi-terrorist attack which failed in Times Square, the banking debates in Congress, and on and on are symptoms of the prevailing aspects. I could mention also the financial problems of Greece racking all of Europe and, as I write, the U. S. financial markets also. So if your own life has its hassles, you are only part of the general condition working out. Only from the spiritual level can all this make sense. Only from what Sri Aurobindo called the Overmind, or better yet the Supermind, could one see how it all fits together.
Astrology is a mental approach to that.
It's interesting that when Congress interrogated the guys from Goldman Sachs, in order to design some kind of legislation, Mercury in Taurus (money) was square Mars in Leo (government, and Obama's sun-sign). Now this week Treasury Secretary Geithner is making a pitch for a special temporary tax on banks to recoup costs of the bail-out. And now it is the sun rather than Mercury which is exactly square Mars, again from Taurus to Leo. All this adds up to astrological sense. I do not know how his proposed tax will play in Congress or what the ultimate result will be. The Mercury-retrograde period (up to a week from today, Wednesday) is good for putting ideas on the table and examining them; not so good for getting them settled, because it is a learning or reviewing stage of things.
It is well to apply that information to what is going on in your own life-process. You can keep on pondering your decisions rather than jump on one prematurely. (Unless, of course, the logic of events and of your own mind shows you a good temporary agenda.) Waiting is hard; sometimes necessary. }True Kindness is Effective{
In the morning, with the moon sextile Uranus, you could expedite ordinary things. This could involve correspondence or information.
There are two void-of-course hours, in the afternoon in North America, just before the moon enters Aquarius at 1:53p PT | 4:53p ET | 8:53p UT.
So with a lunar aspect to Uranus plus that satellite entering the sign ruled by Uranus or Ouranos, sky-god, there is a desire for freedom.
Yet with Neptune rising, also in Aquarius, your very freedom will call out for some responsibility, something you can do which makes you feel you are doing something valuable for the human race or someone.
You may be looking at yourself and others from a very critical and suspicious viewpoint. That is good! Why? Because the human race is evolving and we need to take a good hard long look at ourselves in order to rise beyond our failures. There is a side of me, and probably of you, which does not want to look at my failures, which wants to ignore them and point out to me what a great guy I am in comparison with others. We have to be aware of that weak part of ourselves whenever we are congratulating ourselves and be harder in our self-judgment so we can do something better than what we have been doing.
Saturn's opposition with Uranus is stimulating that self-critical side in everyone. With whom have you been treacherous, not even realizing that you failed to keep promises or disappointed someone radically? Not an easy thing to see in oneself. There are some things which your parent, your best friend, or even G*d may not tell you about yourself, which you have to see for yourself, and take yourself in hand.
(Or, let us say, G*d would tell you if you were fully open to Him/Her; but who is?)
Inflammations or boils or something similar may be happening in those who have been overbearing and destructive. The attempted bombing in Times Square, which fortunately was prevented, is a symbol of Mars square the sun. The constructive use of it is putting your energy where your best intentions are, and pushing on through barriers. This you can do when you have strong purpose, for these two planets are in fixed signs. You are not bombing people or buildings but eliminating obstacles.
Your career area is being enlightened by stalwart research faculties within you, which you turn upon the past to see where you went wrong before and where you went right, as preparation for future rightness. Call it trial and error, but in a very deep and thorough manner. You could convince important people of something they need to understand.
It is good to be clean and avoid infections, or hidden virus or insect problems. It is good also to avoid poisons of any kind, which could include some so-called medicines, and alcohol if misused. You want to help people sacrificially, and that is commendable so long as you are sure what you are doing is really helpful and not a form of make-work which misses its mark. I am not discouraging you from these important acts of kindness, merely suggesting that you analyze them to be sure you do them effectively rather than wastefully.

There are two void-of-course hours, in the afternoon in North America, just before the moon enters Aquarius at 1:53p PT | 4:53p ET | 8:53p UT.
So with a lunar aspect to Uranus plus that satellite entering the sign ruled by Uranus or Ouranos, sky-god, there is a desire for freedom.
Yet with Neptune rising, also in Aquarius, your very freedom will call out for some responsibility, something you can do which makes you feel you are doing something valuable for the human race or someone.
You may be looking at yourself and others from a very critical and suspicious viewpoint. That is good! Why? Because the human race is evolving and we need to take a good hard long look at ourselves in order to rise beyond our failures. There is a side of me, and probably of you, which does not want to look at my failures, which wants to ignore them and point out to me what a great guy I am in comparison with others. We have to be aware of that weak part of ourselves whenever we are congratulating ourselves and be harder in our self-judgment so we can do something better than what we have been doing.
Saturn's opposition with Uranus is stimulating that self-critical side in everyone. With whom have you been treacherous, not even realizing that you failed to keep promises or disappointed someone radically? Not an easy thing to see in oneself. There are some things which your parent, your best friend, or even G*d may not tell you about yourself, which you have to see for yourself, and take yourself in hand.
(Or, let us say, G*d would tell you if you were fully open to Him/Her; but who is?)
Inflammations or boils or something similar may be happening in those who have been overbearing and destructive. The attempted bombing in Times Square, which fortunately was prevented, is a symbol of Mars square the sun. The constructive use of it is putting your energy where your best intentions are, and pushing on through barriers. This you can do when you have strong purpose, for these two planets are in fixed signs. You are not bombing people or buildings but eliminating obstacles.
Your career area is being enlightened by stalwart research faculties within you, which you turn upon the past to see where you went wrong before and where you went right, as preparation for future rightness. Call it trial and error, but in a very deep and thorough manner. You could convince important people of something they need to understand.
It is good to be clean and avoid infections, or hidden virus or insect problems. It is good also to avoid poisons of any kind, which could include some so-called medicines, and alcohol if misused. You want to help people sacrificially, and that is commendable so long as you are sure what you are doing is really helpful and not a form of make-work which misses its mark. I am not discouraging you from these important acts of kindness, merely suggesting that you analyze them to be sure you do them effectively rather than wastefully.

A fascinating article in Sunday's New York Times suggests that complexity is doing us in. The complexity of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. (Does anybody really know who is fighting whom, who is supporting whom, who is paying off whom, who is honest and who dishonest?) The complexity of the "financial instruments" used by Goldman Sachs and other investment bankers to bilk the public, other corporations and one another. The complexity of accounting, of medicine, and on and on.
Some are saying that complexity---too many peoples to rule, too many rulers and soldiers and too many rules---is what did in the Roman Empire.
So there is a great desire for simplicity amid all the complexity. Yet the Bible and other Scriptures are not simple books! Quite the contrary. But if you were to read your chosen sacred book consistently, every day, the complexity of it would resolve within your mind and comprehension into a sort of simplicity which could, at best, be the veritable Philosopher's Stone with super-magical power.
Thus we resolve the complex into the triumphant and lead into gold.
Astrology is another path to simplicity through complexity. I do not like the complexity of these daily forecasts. I am always trying to eliminate factors and make things more straightforward. Yet I think the real simplicity is what you will discover for yourself, each day, after pondering the complexities I am forced to set out in order to be honest with you.
Saturday and Sunday were the specially |worrisome or difficult| days this week, so today (Monday) could be less stressful or confusing; yet confusing it remains. Mercury remains retrograde until May 12th; the Dark Epoch until May 28th. However, with the moon in Capricorn, you will find yourself level-headed and realistic. Fuzzy solutions will appear to be no solutions. So you will clarify and make more precise your intentions and goals. Your agenda will slim until it becomes an agenda you could swallow. Bon appetit!

Money? I do not predict the daily stock prices. Today is a day you could pare down financially, cut costs, evaluate what you are spending on communications, technology, or travel, and decide that less is more.
Ideas are fascinating and research could be thrilling. You feel somewhat like a detective with a promising lead. Then you may end up being led in paths you hadn't suspected.

One of the biggest slides in the Market ever, the beginning of a recession. Millions lost a third to a half of their amassed wealth. We are still recovering from that, and the aspect is not over. It was exact again on Friday, when the Market slid by two per cent, after drops earlier in the week. As said, I shall not predict the Market but whatever is happening within the worldwide economy (the European problems are getting much attention) would seem to be bearing out Robert DeLuce's interpretation of this aspect. (He was a mining engineer in the great Southwest as well as an astrologer who pondered the stars at night.) Of course, not all will want to be "freed from" property, position and social standing! Well, it is not quite that dire. Things are being shaken up. This aspect will not be finished with us until October of this year.
It is very good for study, research, learning, and revolution within the mind. What you thought you knew you may question, but further answers can be revealed. So it can be a thrilling process of rediscovering old things while seeing how they play into new things. (I am doing that, for example, with the ancient Greek gods and goddesses, whom I refuse to call myths. It is not well to offend them.)
Calm realism is a gift of the moon in Capricorn. May it pacify and strengthen your living.
