I am writing this past the usual time, just after the quarter moon, that is, just after the beginning of the waning crescent moon. That is important because in my quest for the best long-term way of dividing time--in addition to the two-months-each Hermetic Epochs (we are now in a Bright one until December 19)--I have at last arrived at an old yet new method which works. It is to divide time into the Crescent and Gibbous Moon periods, that is, fortnights, each of them, covering the time from the moon's square with the sun on each side, through the time of the "lunation" (the new or full moon) until the next square, when the complementary period begins. The chart then used is the chart for the New or Full moon as the case may be; it is not the chart for the beginning of each two-week period but the chart for the midpoint of the period. What I just said will be clear to an astrologer, perhaps murky to others but I just defined it precisely.
Anyway, I was going to write something in today's report about the next "era" or whatever we decide to call these fortnights--because it begins today, precisely at 4:25a PT | 7:25a ET | 12:25p UT on Tuesday 3 November 2015. We are in it now until late in the evening of Wednesday 18 November.
I have concluded that these are the "real" fortnightly divisions, rather than the 1st-to-15th of the calendar month and 16-through 31st periods, which are convenient for sure, but not as accurate.
Monday evening I decided to go to the prayer group I have missed for over a month and I am glad I went, but when I returned I fell asleep. Then when I awakened I saw that it was 4:45 a.m., or ten minutes into this new "era" or fortnight. So this seems a signature or sign, that I am on the right track with writing about it today. I cannot cover the whole period right now but will say a little, especially in terms of today, Tuesday.
We are challenged by one another to keep on playing the game. And it is easier! This looks like a smoother fortnight than the previous one. There is more solvency, in terms of financial matters, with easier budgeting. Sometimes we might feel as vain as peacocks, with Venus in Libra, sign of beauty and fashion, and then become more sober when we realize that we have to keep plugging at the work we do, whether or not we get the appreciation or payback we would like for it. But that looks better now than it has recently.
What is the lack of opportunity we struggle with? In each person's case, it is important to go on despite the apparent absence of easy opportunity. The farmer has to plow his field and plant and cultivate no matter what the weather and hope for things to improve. If his tools are broken he has to use others or improvise. It's the same now for those using technological rather than farming tools. Yet there is a lot of skill in one's background, as well as in the foreground, and using the sharpened tools one has with dexterity leads on to better possibilities at last.
Besides all that in the practical sphere, there is amiability in the social sphere, so that when done with the day's tasks there is fun creating a social scene where people can be themselves in a happy carefree manner, though there had to be care in creating the situation. "A group around a campfire" is the Sabian symbol for this. No planet is there today but Venus is there at the time of the coming New Moon, the center of this fortnight, and we should not deny ourselves the smooth social satisfactions of that position while Venus is "enthroned" in her own sign. It is good to get out and participate in whatever community, charity, church, sports, social, or other events are happening around you. Once you do you will find things happier and more beneficial than you had expected.
Indeed, surprising or unexpected benefits are a keynote of this fortnight. Still, we should not just coast on them. There is a fight going on, and you are one of the fighters; a duel or contest. This should be civilized and not barbaric, of course. Uranus in Aries remains at a yod focus (a "traditional" yod this time, with quincunxes on both sides) and this challenges each of us to bring out, test and prove his own unique powers, potentials and talents. There is sportsmanship in this, that is, a feeling of amiable contest, lose or win. What is loss? An opportunity to try again, maybe even to enjoy someone else's pleasure in winning.
Beyond that "contest" phase of things there is something deeper and more secure, a happy restlessness of seeking for what is actually assured because it is of the soul. Spiritual quest is wonderfully rewarded. It has an element of daring in it, of "the impossible dream," and that is all to the good. Such hope and attempt is like sailing on air toward a glorious sunrise.
I'm pleased with what I see in this period beginning today. I hope that being ready for it will help you expand its benefits. Today is a good introduction to it, for the major lunar aspect is a trine with Uranus, growing stronger into the evening until the void-of-course point indicated above. We may be finding out who we are, and not alone, but by aiding others to find that also for themselves, not through condescension but camaraderie.
