^August 1-15^

It is helpful to consider larger time-frames, such as weeks and months. One often neglected time-frame is the fortnight, or two weeks. I have worked with the period of the gibbous or "fat" moon as one fortnight and the crescent or "thin" moon as the other fortnight, for years, and worked with charts for the midpoint of each such period, which midpoints are respectively the Full and the New moons.
That works. I recommend it to those astrologers who like to experiment with predictive methods.
But now I am using another method which I tested many years ago and found to work, then dropped, and have now resuscitated. It is also an approximately fortnightly period--the first and the second half of each Calendar month.
It has a unique value. I think there are a few reasons. 1. Time tends to be understood by human beings in terms of regularities and systems. You have to pay your rent or mortgage, perhaps, by the 1st of each month. Maybe you get a salary check or deposit once a month, or social security. You go to a monthly meeting of some kind. It is rare, however, in this culture, or anywhere in the world at this point, to regulate time in terms of the lunar months, as in the method I mentioned above.
2. There is such a thing as "final cause," rarely if ever understood by human beings drenched if not drowned in the boring stupid scientistic rationalistic thinking of the 18th century. "There's nothing but matter and coincidence, chaos, no final causes, that is, purposes, in a mechanical meaningless universe." But I know this is not true and I believe some "final cause" or a set of them has or have determined the way we measure time with the once-Roman calendar of January through December. It is the de facto way the world measures time. Rome wins this one.
3. Yet an astrological chart for a whole month is not quite right. Aspects change a great deal in the course of a month. So why not divide the year into 24 half-monthly sections, to correspond in some interesting way with the 24 hours of a day? As above, so below; as in a larger cycle, so in a smaller. People found that 12 two-hour sections in a day was a little too long; 48 half-hour sections made each too brief; but one hour is just right for a great many purposes and seems the right fit. Likewise, I am finding, 24 "annual hours" or fortnights work just right for the slowly changing heavenly panorama. I use the temporal midpoint of each of these periods for the positions and aspects of the planets.
4. There are practical reasons as well. If you tell someone that such-and-such trends are in effect from August 9 through August 24, will they remember those dates a week or two later? Unlikely. But if you say "The first half of August" they will find it easy to remember.
So, I am now working with these charts. Let's talk about the "annual hour" or fortnight of Saturday August 1 through Saturday August 15, 2015. (In 31-day months I give sixteen days to the second half of the month as a convenience, or you could consider the first half to last until noon on the 16th if you wish.)
Jupiter square Saturn, from Leo to Scorpio, continues. The assassination of Cecil the Lion! Obviously Leo is the sign of the lion, king of beasts, and Scorpio the sign of death. It is fascinating how the group consciousness of the human race experiences these astronomical phenomena as actual symbolic events. At a deeper level, you can save, resurrect, rescue from death or oblivion some very important personage. This is likely to be in your own consciousness, but all consciousnesses are connected. I can think of six or more individuals whose works I am studying who represent the Lion or the King to me, in a spiritual sense (three of them are women), and I am resurrecting them from death in my own consciousness and they are giving me deep rewards in return. We have already discussed the deep karmic meaning of this aspect in previous reports.
Venus square Saturn, also from Leo to Scorpio, continues (while Venus moves backward apparently). We have discussed this at length as the "lovelorn" aspect or the sense of a need for loyalty and for facing a "test of the loved one." You may be testing someone else or they are testing you. Much more could be said but I have already said it, and shall say more in future reports. The fact that Venus is retrograde suggests a "stuckness" in friendship and in relationships. It neither progresses nor recedes, or it appears to recede even if it remains solid. You may feel you are connecting with people you knew in past lives.
Now Mercury square Saturn is added to the mix. This is not a bad square. It is a sharpening of the intellect so it can discriminate brilliantly and clearly, developing a crystalline style of thinking. You may find yourself raptly concentrated on solving problems or getting mental tasks accomplished.
With it there is also, within ten degrees, an opposition of both Mercury and Jupiter to Neptune. This could be mystical thinking, an escape into fantasy, but since the square with Saturn is closer it could be a lovely sentiment-flavoring of your solid clear thinking rather than a detraction from it.
The sun, Venus, and Jupiter in Leo are trine Uranus in Aries. This helps us to feel free. It can be exhilaration. In fire signs, it strengthens our internal sense of who we are and makes us feel we have a right to be what we hope to be at the level of our highest aspiration. It can be intellectual and aesthetic liberty. "Go for it, try it, and no matter what happens you can't lose" is the feeling.
Mars trine Saturn can be one answer to the squares of Venus, Jupiter and Mercury to that planet. Those three can be very depressing, but the Mars trine says "Just keep on keeping on and you will win over all these temporary obstacles and you will please even your loved one as well as yourself, so if you feel unloved, keep doing what you do best and perfecting it and somehow that will set you up for better feelings toward and from your loved one also."
