~Away from Violence: to Melancholy: to Mellow~
I am afraid that President Obama is playing with fire in Afghanistan. He has said he is a Christian. That means a disciple of Jesus if it means anything. But Jesus rebuked his disciples when they wanted to play with fire against supposed enemies, in Luke 9, verses 51-56:
'And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. And they did not receive him . . . And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, "Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did?" But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, "Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them." And they went to another village.'
The drone planes your tax dollars are paying for (while making huge profits for military contractors) are "fire from heaven" destroying the lives of civilians including women and children. They have destroyed at least two wedding parties in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and one in Iraq, already. They are anti-Christian, anti-God and, as evidenced from this passage, anti-Jesus.
I conclude that if Obama ever had any sincere Christian aspirations, they have been beaten out of him by bad advice from his military advisers and from the military contractors, the military-industrial complex warned against sincerely and courageously by the general who won World War II, Dwight David Eisenhower. It is fascinating that his middle name coincides with that of the Hebrew boy who killed Goliath, not with a sword or spear, but with a smooth stone. Eisenhower also advised Truman not to use the atomic bomb against Japanese civilians, thus living up again to his middle name.
According to Eisenhower's two living children, Susan and John, he was an anti-war general who so desired peace that he was extremely wary of the military and its advisers and of so-called "defense" contractors. If you want to see very convincing and moving evidence of this, watch the movie I have already recommended, "Why We Fight." (I gave the title incorrectly before as "Why Do We Fight," sorry.) It made me feel that Dwight, Susan and John are on the side of the angels, knowing the limits of military action and its disastrous consequences.
Same chapter, verse 60: 'Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.' Let Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and General Dynamics bury their dead missiles and the dead bodies they call down, and free the American taxpayers from a huge portion of their military burden, 57 per cent of Federal taxes.
One can "preach the kingdom of God" only if one knows the kingdom of God. Do you?

Thursday is not an easy day; challenging in multiple ways. Troubles and privations could push you toward more simple activities such as (snow shoveling? needed here on Wednesday) clean-up in the house, garage, workshop or office, getting down to dirt realities. (Needless to say, there are also Divine Realities, and neither cancels the other.) You may wonder who your friends are and be sensitive about hurting any of them.
When you are tired of grit, there can be sensuous self-indulgence, which could have a sting in it. Fairly soon you will turn away from anyone who offers only a mild thrill for a while.
There could be violence in the air, as evidenced by the mood of Washington, trying to heal (medical bill) and hurt (Afghanistan) at the same time, not really possible. According to Scripture, God is the One to whom we leave vengeance.
You think of someone beautiful at a distance and thereby bring her or him into your home (on the inner planes).
Steadfastness and patience will help you counter fearful and timid feelings. Even your relatives may seem suspicious. One can say what is needed without venturing beyond proper limits in either direction (fawning or fault-finding).
Those who think they have a divine right to interfere in your home or work may be annoying by their ridiculous self-esteem. Fortunately this sort of wrong-headedness has a way of getting corrected by circumstances. Therefore, you do not have to risk dangerous or explosive reactions to it.
Those who do foolish things, even up to shooting or bombing, do not realize they are being foolish but think they have divine protection or authorization. This can be a lesson for all of us now while Mars moves closer to opposition with Jupiter. Extravagant wrongs look as if they are right to those who perpetrate them. Let that not be you.
A sympathetic and kindly trend goes counter to the above, and can be your salvation. It is artistic. By making a drawing or photo, or composing a song or poem, you create what can counter follies of the human temperament, based mostly on fear and misunderstanding. "Bearing the burden of universal love" (Sri Aurobindo) may be melancholy, yet also mellow. Spiritual alliance discovers glints of divinity and love gleaming through self's-and-others' suffering.
