Moon in Cancer
New Moon of Cancer occurs at 6:18p PT | 9:18p ET | 1:18a(Sa) UT

Challenge:  Before and even a little after a New Moon we are in a Dark or Old Moon, which seems to make people more lethargic, less likely to engage in intense physical activity or exercise.  That can be a natural and welcome rest, or if one insists on an exercise schedule one can force oneself to continue it.  Mars and Venus square Uranus (while opposite Saturn) is a more belligerent mood, 'a bull tossing a man with his horns.'  This could be defensive and aggressive tendencies which are selfish: 'Whatever I can get is mine.'  Mercury in its own sign while septile Mars could be an intellectual trend, 'a teacher of chemistry' who delights in dominating his or her students, though he or she may have 'illimitable powers for penetrating into the deeper mysteries of an everyday world.'  Instruction when good is a two-way street of communication and discovery.

Process:  Taking the easy way out, with the waning moon plus Venus conjoined to Mars, could seem like 'a cluster of faded exotics, sweet and sickly to the smell.'  This could be frailty and timorous avoidance of criticism, with a desire to live in fictitious luxuries.  Or, choosing instead the Mars path, one is like 'a ram standing on a barren rock, pawing the ground,' headstrong and hard to restrain yet warm-hearted and generous as a friend.

Blessing:  Luna and Sol together (the New Moon) could present us with 'a bright mirror in which the sun's rays are reflected.'  This could be 'a brilliant intellect' which learns and assimilates the ideas of others (mirror) yet also makes original inventions.  There can be sympathy and good deeds.  'A hen scratching for her chicks' is intent on providing what is needed by the immature or incapable. Whether one is the hen or one of the chicks, 'life at large' is providing 'maximum protection' for 'the simple business of self-being.'
