\Adventure of the Soul/

Moon in Capricorn
|Specially challenging third| of this week ends early, at 6:33a PT | 9:33a ET | 1:33p UT

"Accepting what we have to accept," as in the famous prayer adopted by AA, is a key. That does not mean that a lot of terrible stuff is being forced on us but that the ordinary or seemingly boring needs to be accepted as "just the way it is." We can make it thrilling rather than boring by our attitudes.

Someone who caters to the public, as a restaurant manager or maybe waiter or waitress, struggles to be patient but has obstacles to contend with. There could be simmering frustration which the code of the job requires him or her to suppress.

You may note some going off at a tangent, or having the urge while suppressing it. "A radical magazine." The desire for the ideal in human institutions conflicts with what has already been established and so there is pressure toward change, whether or not the direction insisted upon is wise or possible.

Insecure affections result from longing for some relationship impossible, or from trying to cling to one which has run its course. Yes, there is a chance some aspects of it could be revived, but perhaps not in the way exactly hoped. One can get clues to this through reading novels or stories, or watching movies or serial dramas: "A meeting of a literary society." By critiquing others' struggles with love won or lost one salvages one's self-respect, and perhaps one's ability to keep loving somehow.

By trusting the core of yourself you are gaining and shaping your individual philosopher's stone or nascent germ of magical transformation. (It comes along with "accepting what we have to accept" usually.)

"Two men fighting over a casket of jewels" suggests strong desires to gain what one thinks one ought to have, even if through competition. There could be a gambling streak, a man with a woman on each arm as he strides through the casino.

Then there is a flash of lightning revealing more urgent and lasting values which overturn beliefs as well as doubts in order to clear the way for a pioneering adventure illumined by the soul rather than by overweening craving.

163. The power to observe law rigidly is the basis of freedom; therefore in most disciplines the soul has to endure and fulfil the law in its lower members before it can rise to the perfect freedom of its divine being. Those disciplines which begin with freedom are only for the mighty ones who are naturally free or in former lives have founded their freedom.

165. To observe the law we have imposed on ourselves rather than the law of others is what is meant by liberty in our unregenerate condition. Only in God and by the supremacy of the spirit can we enjoy a perfect freedom.

166. The double law of sin and virtue is imposed on us because we have not that ideal life and knowledge within which guides the soul spontaneously and infallibly to its self-fulfilment. The law of sin and virtue ceases for us when the sun of God shines upon the soul in truth and love with its unveiled splendour. Moses is replaced by Christ, the Shastra by the Veda.

167. God within is leading us always aright even when we are in the bonds of the ignorance; but then, though the goal is sure, it is attained by circlings and deviations.
